Recorded At Copenhagen's Legendary Jazzhus Montmartre In 1967

Pressed On 180 Gram Audiophile-Grade Vinyl At Pallas In Germany

Previously Out Of Press For Almost Three Decades

Tenor-saxophonist Dexter Gordon was in peak form
when recording at Copenhagen's Legendary Jazzhus
Montmartre in 1967. A portion of that recording would
later become Body & Soul, an album originally released
by Black Lion Records, which has been out of press
on vinyl for almost three decades. Now, just shy of fifty
years after the performance was recorded, the album
finally receives the audiophile treatment it deserves with
this 180gram vinyl reissue, pressed at Pallas in Germany

    Flash Gordon

Queen are proud to announce the re-release of their entire studio album catalog on remastered long playing heavyweight vinyl. The album packaging will include every detail of the original releases in their original 12 format. Bonus posters, extra pictures and all the unique content of the original albums will be faithfully reproduced. The next 5 albums include the very first album, Queen, along with News Of The World, Flash Gordon, A Kind of Magic and Innuendo, with successive releases coming approximately every six months.

Flash Gordon is the motion picture soundtrack for the 1980 Dino DeLaurentis film, released just a few months after one of Queen's most commercially successful albums, The Game. The synthesizer-heavy release is comprised mostly of short instrumentals with dialogue from the movie inserted throughout. Flash Gordon contains plenty of first-rate compositions including the soundtrack's anthemic opener Flash's Theme and the underrated rocker The Hero, which closes out the album.

    Flash Gordon

While writing and recording The Game, Queen were asked by renowned movie director Dino DeLaurentis to provide the soundtrack for his upcoming sci-fi epic Flash Gordon. The band accepted and promptly began working on both albums simultaneously. Although at first many fans criticized Flash Gordon since it was issued as an official Queen release rather than a motion picture soundtrack, it has proven to be one of rock's better motion picture soundtracks over the years. The majority of the music is instrumental, with dialogue from the movie in place of Freddie Mercury's singing (only two tracks contain lyrics), but the songwriting is still unmistakably Queen. Highlights abound, such as Football Fight, Vultan's Theme (Attack of the Hawkmen), The Wedding March, and the heavy metal roar of Battle Theme. But it was the two more conventional songs that were the album's two best tracks -- the anthemic U.K. Top Ten hit Flash's Theme and the woefully underrated rocker The Hero. With Queen involved, Flash Gordon is certainly not your average, predictable soundtrack.

    Daddy Plays The Horn

The lengthy, swinging tenor and rhythm formula that Dexter Gordon perfected coined him a major force in the emergence of modern tenor saxophone styles. The logical improvisations Gordon uses on Daddy Plays The Horn are no exception to this formula.

During a period of Dexter Gordon's (tenor sax) life -- when he was deep in the throws of chronic drug addiction -- the artist was miraculously able to reignite his career during the latter part of 1955. After several years of being out of the spotlight, Gordon resurfaced on the Big Apple-based indie Bethlehem imprint with the half-dozen sides that comprise Daddy Plays The Horn (1956).

While the support team provides Gordon top-notch contributions throughout, it is unquestionably Drew who offers the most in terms of active interaction and his prominence can not be overstated. Nowhere is that as noticeable as the good-natured interaction heard on the disc's opener, the Gordon-penned title composition Daddy Plays The Horn. In fact it could be argued that Drew enhances the tenor to the point of practically being a co-leader. The update of Charlie 'Bird' Parker's bop standard Confirmation is taken at a steady mid-tempo pace, allowing plenty of room for the participants to have their say and not get in the way of the melody. Gordon seems considerably more relaxed and comfortable as he spreads line upon line of inspired improvisation. Drew is once again a real treat to hear briefly taking charge of the rhythm section. The pair of ballads on Daddy Plays The Horn are nothing short of stellar and stand as simple, emotive expressions unto themselves. Darn That Dream embraces the warmth of Gordon's tenor as his sensual phrasing leaves just enough space for Drew to sonically bridge the gap with his own unhurried and stylish chords. The generically monikered Number Four is anything but ordinary. The Gordon original jumps right from the opening and the ensemble lets loose with equally solid licks beneath his cool tone. Drew gets in the driver's seat missing nary a measure to reveal what could easily be his most tasteful contributions to date. The same can be said of bassist Vinnegar, who is briefly spotlighted on an efficient (if not somewhat sparse) solo. Autumn in New York -- the album's other essential ballad -- is proof that despite Gordon's addiction, he had retained his singular and precious sense of lyricism. Indeed, the Great American Songbook entry has rarely been permeated in such a meaningful way. The seamless transitions between Gordon and Drew are further evidence of their undeniable bond. Saving what may be the best example of the gathered instrumentalists flexing their respective be-bop muscle, You Can Depend On Me rounds out the platter with a bang.

    Under The Sun

Gordon Gano, co-founder of and songwriter for alt-rock monoliths The Violent Femmes returns to the scene he helped spawn with Under the Sun. Film-scoring brothers and Bogmen members Brendan and Billy Ryan join Gano for Gordon Gano & The Ryans' first collaboration and Gordon's first non-Femmes release as a front man. Gano's influence on alternative music is immeasurable and his latest work is sure to remind the music world of the force and presence with which he originally stormed onto the scene in 1983, paving the way for the commercial explosion of alternative music a decade later. Gano's signature emotionalism is present in full force on razor-edged ballads like title track Under the Sun and the gorgeously unfurling Still Suddenly Here. Tense propulsion underpin Wave and Water and Man in the Sand. His most cohesive collaboration yet, Under the Sun marks the beginning of a promising partnership with The Ryans' and the return of a musical heavyweight.

    Overstep (On Sale)

Ask, and Mike Gordon will tell you all about the songs he has written and recorded for his fourth solo album Overstep, and how the finished product
compares to his previous releases (2003's Inside In, 2008's The Green Sparrow, and 2010's Moss). But as a devotee and student of the creative process,
he'd much rather talk about how the songs came to be, and about the long road traveled between idea and finished work.

Most artists have a ritual or routine that they rely on to inspire and guide their efforts from concept to fruition. Gordon has developed hundreds of them
over the years, and perhaps thousands. He speaks often about the importance of listening, and of his commitment to following ethereal voices and
visions. One such persistent vision he describes was of a spare cabin in the woods with a single window and a desk, and Gordon making music with
guitarist and longtime collaborator Scott Murawski. So he called Murawski and proposed a songwriting retreat at idyllic Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire.
Murawski accepted, and the old friends escaped together to summon the muse, unburdened as yet by the expectation that they would eventually record
    an album.

After multiple writing retreats and an album's worth of core tracks in hand, Gordon took a leap of faith, and hired Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, Hole,
Pixies, Dinosaur Jr.) as producer to bring the project home. Gordon had self-produced all of his previous albums, but felt he was ready to surrender
control to someone who understood his vision and loved the material. "Hiring Paul was definitely the right thing," says Murawski. "The payoffs are all over
    the place."

Gordon cites three goals that he kept in mind throughout the process from start to finish: Find ways to be raw and sophisticated at the same time; Be
groove oriented; Write songs that will be fun to play live. Whether an explicit goal or not, the songs on Overstep evidence Gordon's evolving ability to
develop three-dimensional characters within his songs, and to speak more directly to the truth of their condition.

Previously Unreleased From The Original Radio Broadcast Tapes

Recorded on 3rd November 1972 for VPRO at Heemskerk Societeit Progress, The Netherlands.

The great tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon moved to Europe in 1962. Ten years later he was living in Copenhagen when he went on the road with a Dutch rhythm section consisting of pianist Rein de Graaf, double bassist Henk Haverhoek and drummer Eric Ineke. This was quite unusual, as Dexter mostly toured as a solo artist working with local musicians in each town.

By the time their performance at the Societiet Progress in Heemskerk was recorded for broadcast by VPRO, the quartet had been playing together regularly for two months. Dexter and his "Dutch band" had developed a deep rapport and understanding that's clearly evident on the three extended tracks on this record. These are two of his signature compositions, "The Panther" and "Fried Bananas", plus the iconic Coleman Hawkins classic "Body and Soul".

With sleeve notes by Dexter's wife Maxine Gordon that include reminiscences and insights from drummer Eric Ineke and pianist Rein de Graaf, Fried Bananas is an important new addition to the recorded legacy of Dexter Gordon's fourteen years in Europe.

The hard-bop saxophonist blows nothing less than a 28-chorus solo without referencing one standard tune on an epic 12-bar rendition of "Sonnymoon for Two" and, for good measure, sails through an extended, calypso-themed version of Ben Tucker's "Devilette." Want sentimentality? No problem. Get lost on "Misty," on which pianist Kenny Drew and drummer Al Heath add their own signature strokes. What a set!

Originally released by the UK label Black Lion, an imprint that specialized in resurrecting rare gems from US jazz and blues legends, Both Sides of Midnight marks Gordon's peak live recorded document and a can't-miss opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to get closer to the man and his music. Helmed by ORG, this historical reissue is afforded the ultimate in audiophile production standards, resulting in sonics and presentation befitting the museum-like worth of this record's existence.

Mastered from the original master tapes at Bernie Grundman Studios by Chris Bellman and pressed at Pallas, the 180g LP was curated by legendary engineer Steve Hoffman and eq'd by Grundman himself. A better team you cannot find; every step involved serious quality-control measures to guarantee gorgeous sound. The superb vinyl jacket features exclusive artwork. Indeed, this is what being a collector is all about. The title may not be as widely known as some of Gordon's other works, but this reissue preserves vital music that will be enjoyed by generations to come. Consider it a buried treasure that, miraculously, has resurfaced in better condition than that when it was originally made.

Jazz fans, Gordon devotees, audiophiles, and music fanatics, don't sleep on this collectable gem!

Daddy Plays The Horn (Pure Pleasure)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Forget I Brought It Up

After years performing shows and a string of EP's, Still At Home Here (2013), Sleepless (2012) and Outgrowing Hope (2011), Gordon is finally ready to unveil his first album, Forget I Brought It Up. While mostly known for his acoustic performances, the singer-songwriter picked up the electric for his latest
effort and drew upon a wealth of talent he'd acquired over the years; ultimately creating a record that transcends genres and time with brilliantly crafted songs and thoughtful lyrics that would fit well alongside his heroes (Superchunk, The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr. and My Bloody Valentine).

If You Could Read My Mind

    Limited Edition 180 Gram Vinyl

Canadian singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot emerged from the 1960s folk world, and had as much in common with Ian & Sylvia, Eric Andersen, and Bob Dylan as he did with any '70s AM wonder. Though the title track of IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND was indeed his first massive pop hit, the album proves that Lightfoot was a serious, substantive song craftsman. Minstrel of the Dawn is a Mr. Tambourine Man-like affair that closes on a surprisingly sarcastic note. Sit Down Young Stranger and Cobwebs & Dust are the folkiest cuts, and each bears an incisive, poetic lyricism. The bluesy Baby It's Alright and a cover of Kris Kristofferson's Me and Bobby McGee showcase Lightfoot's rootsier tendencies, while Saturday Clothes stands out by virtue of it's Bacharach-like melody and dinner-jacket chord progression. While he wasn't as edgy as fellow Canuck Leonard Cohen, Lightfoot was clearly a formidable song-poet.
