And lo, Lee Dorrian, mouthpiece of Cathedral for 23 years, doth solemnly intone the death rites of this mighty British metal Titan. Born in the dying days of Thatcher's Britain, bonding over then-unfashionable, obscure names like Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Trouble and Dream Death, Cathedral's sole ambition was to record a demo tape. In fact they revolutionised doom metal, first pushing their influences into new avenues of grinding extremity, then pioneering groovier forms of '70s-indebted stoner doom.

They've remained a reassuring and singular presence in our lives, building a rabid following worldwide with their wholly distinctive blend of rollicking British heavy metal, true doom, 70s hard rock, psych-folk, mad prog and spiky crust-punk. There was a worrying hiatus between 2005 and 2010 when some dared to wonder if Cathedral were coming back at all - but they re-emerged with 'The Guessing Game', an overflowing treasure chest of weird and wonderful goodies exploring new, bold variations on their craft. So when news came that Cathedral really were approaching the Endtyme, it was a shock.

Personally speaking, this is the album I've been waiting to do since the first one (their landmark 1991 debut, Forest of Equilibrium), it almost feels like we made our second album last in some respects. We actually recorded a lot more material but decided to sacrifice many of the tracks to make the overall album feel more complete in its nihilism. I don't like happy endings, I never have. So many good films are ruined by happy endings and I didn't want that to be the case with Cathedral, it was my dream to bring everything full circle. Says Lee Dorrian.

Clearly there was new impetus for reconnecting with that early spirit of doleful abjection, of sinister obsessions and lamented desires; on 'The Last Spire' Cathedral are literally doomed. We are commiserating the celebration, and in what thrilling style.

    To The Happy Few

Eighteen years after they called it quits as a working band, 2013 finds the original members of Medicine reunited and proudly offering a newly recorded LP on Captured Tracks. "To The Happy Few" is the sound of a highly inspired group reclaiming its creative legacy, thoroughly immersed in the practice of mixing harsh noise with obsessive melodic detail and heavily groovy rocking.

Returning is the core trio of lead singer/ chanteuse Beth Thompson, guitarist / vocalist Brad Laner, and drummer Jim Goodall, the same team which created the still vital, influential and controversial LPs "Shot Forth Self Living" (1992) , "The Buried Life" (1993) and "Her Highness" (1995) as well as a stand-out appearance in the 1994 film "The Crow".

As it happens, it's really all the fault of Captured Tracks. In 2012 C/T pulled off the seemingly
impossible and secured the rights to reissue the aforementioned two original Medicine LPs in loving and expanded fashion. This was a rather emotional moment for the original band members. So much so that upon meeting up at Brad's home studio in May 2012 for the first time since 1995 in order to divide up the vinyl goodies and ultra-limited box sets, the trio laid down the basic track for what became the final song on the new LP. Emboldened by the natural ease with which they slipped back into Medicine mode, the trio spent the remainder of the year leisurely recording the new LP and enjoying each other's company far removed from the stress and turmoil of their original early 90's run. The resulting LP is not your parent's Shoegaze record. The sonic palette and the hands, feet and mouths that utilize it may be the same, but the end result more subtly reflects the amassed life experiences and refined aesthetics of three mature artists only just now approaching the peak of their powers.

The members of Medicine stayed quite busy with music in the interim between 1995 and 2012: Jim Goodall recorded and toured with his legendary evil country western band Jon Wayne which had its first LP reissued by Jack White's Third Man label. He also toured as a member of UK noise gods Whitehouse and recorded with Current 93. Beth Thompson made a collaborative album as The Shway and performed with The Furry Things. Brad Laner has released a bunch of solo and collaborative LPs under various names and recorded with the likes of Brian Eno, M83, Caribou and Blinker The Star.

"Long As The Sun," the first single from Medicine, simultaneously references the origins of the band and explodes into brand new territory. An exuberant, belligerently pounding carnival of sound and harmony. A joyful acceptance of something that just simply works. Noise for beauty's sake. You know, Medicine

The latest southern rap duo Playaz Circle made their debut in 2007 with Supply & Demand. Signed to the groundbreaking Disturbing tha Peace label, founded by multi-platinum and Grammy winning artist and actor Ludacris and Disturbing Tha Peace CEO Chaka Zulu, these Georgia boys continue to make noise with their current hit Stupid featuring OJ Da Juiceman from their sophomore album Flight 360: The Takeoff. We come from the era when hip-hop really had substance, Tity Boy says. We were students of artists like NWA, Too Short and Big Daddy Kane. We knew all of that music. Growing-up in the College Park section of Atlanta at a time when hometown groups like Goodie Mob and Outkast were pioneering a southern hip-hop sensibility, the Playaz Circle rap duo Tity Boy and Dolla were boyhood friends before either had ever busted a rhyme. Playaz Circle proves that there is little competition when it comes to being the hottest crew from the south. On our songs, we just strive to make timeless songs that make you feel good, says Tity Boy. There is no argument; Playaz Circle has achieved that goal.

MOONLIGHT is the breathtaking soundtrack to the film Rolling Stone has called A Masterpiece. The album features the critically-acclaimed score by composer Nicholas Britell, as well as choice songs including Every N**r Is A Star by Boris Gardner, Cell Therapy by Goodie Mob and Hello Stranger by Barbra Lewis.

Nicholas Britell is an award-winning composer, pianist, and producer. In 2015, Britell scored Adam McKay's Oscar-nominated film THE BIG SHORT, and his music also featured prominently in Steve McQueen's Oscar-winning film 12 YEARS A SLAVE, for which he composed and arranged the on-camera music including the violin performances, spiritual songs, work songs, and dances. As a producer, Britell produced Damien Chazelle's short film WHIPLASH, and subsequently co-produced the Oscar-nominated feature film WHIPLASH.

Britell's emotional and evocative score to MOONLIGHT has resonated with audiences from early festival screenings, earning accolades from critics in their reviews of the film which underline how the music is wrapped into the very fabric of the film itself.

    Southern Gothic

Constellations stomping ground is Atlanta, GA, and in the wee small hours of the morning, A-Town can get awfully bizarre.

The record is all about what happens in Atlanta from 2 AM until noon. Your tour guide on this madcap adventure is the magnetic frontman and vocalist Elijah Jones, the ringleader of the twisted circus that is The Constellations, who spent two years writing and recording the album with producer Ben H. Allen (Animal Collective, Gnarls Barkley), along with some storied cronies from the local scene. Not that they set out with specific intentions. Far from it. All of us wanted to do a record about Atlanta, but we never said it in words, recalls Jones. But the deeper we got into it, the more we realized we were writing a concept album.

Atlanta is strange, he adds, because were all basically pushed together. The hip-hop heads, punk rockers, and indie kids all rub shoulders and mix it up. Southern Gothic reflects that inclusive diversity in its far-reaching sound. The record was designed to sound lyrically and melodically very thought out, and sonically very disorganized, comments Allen. One expects nothing less from a singer who cites Tom Waits and Cee-Lo of Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley as his musical heroes, working with a producer who name-checks Fela Kuti and Gorillaz among their records key influences.

The bands name refers to the myriad musicians from the regional scene who either contributed to making Southern Gothic, or have since played in The Constellations live band. One luminary who drops in is Cee-Lo, whose verse on the electro-rocker Love Is A Murder prompted a completely overhaul the track underneath. Another guest is suburban rapper Asher Roth, lending his playful rhymes to Were Here To Save The Day, among the album's most insidious moments. On the one hand, this dittys sound is pure sing-along bliss, with a gleeful chorus delivered by Elijahs niece and nephew. Yet at the same time, Jones and Roth drop rhymes that lampoon commercial top 40 hip-hop and chest-thumping poseurs.

    Love Power Peace

First Release Of 3 LP Set As Envisioned By James Brown

Includes Deluxe Jacket With Rare Photos And Liner Notes By Alan Leeds

Mastered From Brown's 1971 Mixdown Reels, Unused Until Now

James Brown's magnum opus! Love Power Peace is the sound of the Godfather and his youngblood J.B.'s (including Bootsy and Catfish Collins) electrifying a crazed Parisian audience on March 8, 1971. Sequenced and mixed by Brown himself for a planned triple album, the set was shelved when key band members departed before it could be issued. Here, for the first time, are the sides as intended, exactly as delivered by James Brown Productions to his label in 1971-a 3-LP set with each disc mastered from the original mixdown reels, and each with a unique name, Love, Power and Peace! Brown and band rip through recent singles like "Sex Machine," "Super Bad," "Give It Up or Turnit a Loose" and "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved" with a metronomic precision laid down by bassist Bootsy Collins and drummer Jabo Starks. "Ain't It Funky Now" - formerly a slow, simmering groove - is transformed into a fast, funky tour de force in which newbie Catfish Collins unleashes one of the most badass guitar solos ever, while a medley of three other Brown standards ("Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"/"I Got You (I Feel Good)"/"I Got the Feelin' ") blazes by faster than the Godfather of Soul's personal Learjet. Interspersed with just the right amount of slow numbers like "Georgia on My Mind," and including tracks from the show's supporting acts that were not included on the 1992 CD (which was a remixed, incomplete show), this document of the funk revolution features rare photos and liner notes by tour director Alan Leeds. The way to jump on board for a trip through James' world at the height of his career!
