    Zero To Infinity

    Import

Originally released in 2000, this is part five in the thirty year old Radio Gnome saga which first surfaced way back in 1971 on the classic Camembert Elecrtique album. Over three decades may have passed, but pop visionary Daevid Allen still looms large on the horizon with music that masterfully inhabits its own creative plane coasting blissfully just below the radar in its own densely populated universe. One of Allen's best, now on double picture disc with 7 bonus tracks taken from Live 2 Infinitea, recorded live during their 2000 European Tour following the release of Zero To Infinity.

    The High Frontier

Lumerians release The High Frontier on through Partisan Records. The name for the album comes from a term coined by Gerard K. O'Neil in his illustrated 1976 book depicting human colonisation of space. The High Frontier contains Krautrock inspired exploration, Afrobeat's ritualistic rhythms, post-punk guitar noise and cracked-glacÉ synth lines culled from perverse 1970s sci-fi soundtracks.

It's a cacophony of sound in which Lumerians acknowledge the role noise and rhythm has always played in transcendent and ecstatic rituals the world over, from the repetitious drums of tribal animists to the penetrating electronic pulses of neon dance clubs.

The six tracks and 33 minutes that make up The High Frontier were recorded and produced in Lumerians' self-built studio/brewery: a room housed in a converted store-front church in a neighbourhood affectionately referred to as the "Murder Dubbs".

The High Frontier brings back the sound of prog rock that was so familiar in the 70s. Uncut described the album as: "a fruitful collision between Boredoms, Neu! and the Grateful Dead" and they are spot on.

Track one Dogon Genesis could easily fit itself into the 70s with no questions asked. Dogon Genesis is a fantastic first track that prepares the listener for the rest of the album. Dogon Genesis could refer to the Dogon tribe of Mali which gives a good indication of how bonkers the record is.

Title track The High Frontier has a completely different sound to that of Dogon Genesis. It's a slower tempo with more deep, bass tones coming through. The drum beat produces a mesmerising rhythm alongside the swooping synth sounds.

Previously disclosed track, The Bloom follows the same theme as The High Frontier. It's strange and eery. It is probably the most experimental song on the record which introduces lots of sounds and plays with the concepts of prog rock to create a brilliantly atmospheric track. The synth sounds heard at the beginning almost sound like sirens, building a sense of tension and fear into the listener.

Koman Tong breaks the album away from eerie and unnerving and plunges it into summer happiness. Koman Tong is still very experimental but it starts to introduce the idea of world influences into Lumerians' music, the guitar is distorted leading it to sound faintly like a sitar in parts while gongs and bells can be heard in the background. It's the best track on the record by far. There is just so much to catch and involve yourself in that you will instantly become lost in the music - cliched as it may sound.

Smokies Tangle turns the album back to its 70s prog rock style while the last track, Life Without Skin again oozes world influences, foreign vocals and jazz inspired drum beats to create a superb end track. It has a fantastic rhythm and melody and can easily be placed as one of the best songs on The High Frontier. It's also one of the only tracks on the album that uses influences from Lounge - think Bonobo vs prog rock and you're almost there.

The High Frontier is a mesmerizing account of weirdness and oddity that will leave you wanting to hear more. Each track has so many layers to it that you really will become immersed in this record. It's 33 minutes of experiments, fusion of genres and rule-breaking in the music world. A triumph.

    Terrestrials (Awaiting Repress)

Thick Stock Cardboard Stoughton Style Tip On Jacket

    180 Gram Vinyl

    Limited To 3,000

Four figures stand atop a summit, staring east out over a vast, frostbitten wasteland, the black sun dwindling in the west, casting their shadows across the plain. They await another clan, legendary for their slow approach. Eyes on the horizon, searching, patiently, for some signal of the arrival, some plume of smoke that would announce that the time had come. At last, at the edge of the plane, they note a black banner, and soon two hooded figures appear in the dusk. A horn sounds, and drumbeats echo through the valley.

It's only the threshold of the distant horizon that limits the scope of Terrestrials, but like much of Earth, its landscape is arid, only disclosing its secrets upon active contemplation of its component dust. From the opening strains, hidden at the foot of a vertiginous crescendo from zero decibels, the album recalls a technique of Andrei Tarkovsky's, later developed in the films of BÉla Tarr. The eight-and-a-half-minute opening shot in Tarr's epic Sátántangó laterally tracks cattle carefully plodding through a dilapidated commune in search of food from muddy pasture. As the audience investigates the frame for clues to Tarr's purpose, he slowly reveals to them a symbolic vision of the film as a whole, inviting contemplation of the rich surfaces of the decayed buildings and the labyrinthine entrapment of the commune's inhabitant kine, some playing at leadership and some dragging their feet, cow and human alike awaiting deliverance by a dark messiah. Terrestrials proceeds in a remarkably similar fashion. As each track unfurls, its glacial pace arrests the listener's search for novelty, forcing attention to the profundities of the mix and the texture that the interlaced sounds create; and yet it also deepens the desire for what each step forward promises, the crisis that the procession patiently unveils.

Terrestrials features more complex instrumentation than most of the works of either party. Sunn O)))'s deep bass and endlessly sustained guitar feature heavily on each track of Terrestrials, but so do Ulver's electronics and a myriad of additions, including trumpets, didgeridoo, and strings. Although the tracks apparently began as a set of improvisations recorded at Ulver's Oslo studio, the vast scope of the release clearly evolved out of the various mixing and arrangement sessions helmed by Ulver's Kristoffer Rygg and Sunn O)))'s Stephen O'Malley between 2008 and 2012. Here they achieved a synthesis that stylistically transcends the mere combination of the two groups and their traditional pathways, with Ulver sealing up the cracks of Sunn O)))'s immense backdrop and heightening the atmosphere with tense strings, sculpted textures, and insistent rhythm. It's this attention to the subtleties that renders Terrestrials monolithic; they ensure that each tick of the clock yields an array of sonic qualities, each progressing slowly in themselves but together moving the whole mass of sound forth at a constant click.

From the trumpets on "Let There Be Light" to the drum-like pound of the bass and didgeridoo in "Western Horn," Terrestrials relentlessly heralds its own arrival, an endless parade slouching towards Bethlehem. By the time Rygg's vocals enter at the middle of "Eternal Return," the crawling pace of the album has ensured their sublimity. Taken on its own, this short section would scarcely justify a song unto itself; it emerges out of the sudden but carefully orchestrated resolution of the murky depths of the track's recesses, manifesting as a piercing clarity and a distillation of the album's theme of annunciation. Its lyrics, rich in spite of their brevity, conceal a messianic yearning in the fallow desert, a hope for deliverance from the stasis of the Egyptian yoke and the confusion of exile, and a dark prophecy of a "liminal animal" with "golden nature" of the sinful calf. Rygg urges us to "listen silent."

Gongs or guitars ring out. This final stage of Terrestrials heralds a return of an immense mystery. What approaches, its lumbering gait constantly pressing onward, can't divulge its nature until it finally arrives. The quintessential figure of doom is an immense behemoth, a force of nature whose sublime shadow conceals it from view even as its thundering steps reveal its impending advent. But here we lie in wait. Terrestrials delivers on its persistent promise by offering another transcendental promise of a future culmination. But the restraint they exert in their advance to the beautiful oasis at the center of "Eternal Return" suggests that, here, Sunn O))) and Ulver are more interested in the process as it happens through time, tracking the march of the sun across the heavens, marking each moment as it slips back into eternity.

    Sliding Gliding Worlds

    Import

By the time Sliding Gliding Worlds was released in 1988, the British based Ozric Tentacles had already garnered a huge cult following, climbing to fame with a series of self-produced cassette tapes. Borrowing the idea from the bands of the '60s that music is somehow related to the cosmic realm, the Ozrics became a kind of leader of a new British psychedelic movement. Strictly instrumental, but with a sense of humour, the band creates a kind of eastern twinged space rock, using keyboards and synthesizers, on the one hand, and flutes, xylophones and recorders on the other, for a kind of east meets west synthesis where bands like Gong immediately jump to mind. This Double 180g Vinyl Import Edition contains 9 bonus tracks from 1986's cassette There Is Nothing.

    Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor

In April, horror rock mogul ROB ZOMBIE returns with his fifth solo album, and in his words, "It merges the old days of WHITE ZOMBIE with the future of what I am doing now this is the perfect combo of both worlds." Much more than self-serving hyperbole, this is the Devil's truth! 'The Girl Who Loved The Monsters' harkens back to La Sexorcisto, whereas 'Behold, The Pretty Filthy Creatures' would be right at home on The Sinister Urge. Throughout the 12 songs, pretty much every aspect of Zombie's musical career is touched upon; Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor is almost like a Greatest Hits comprised of entirely new material. First single 'Dead City Radio And The New Gods Of Super Town' is a fiery, barn-burner of a track highlighting "wasted youth - an angel of odd in her birthday suit." That being said, the award for worst song title of the year goes to 'Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga'. Musically, it's actually quite a good piece, but that title and chorus - what were you thinking Rob? Then there's 'Rock And Roll (In A Black Hole)', centered around a tedious, electronic syncopated drum beat. All signs lead to dull and dreary, but when this kicks in, it'll knock you on your ass! 'Theme For The Rat Vendor' is an unexpected 62-second instrumental immersed in middle-eastern sounds. Pulling a decapitated rabbit out of the hat, Zombie and cohorts John 5 on guitar, Piggy D on bass, and Ginger Fish on drums rock the shit out of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD's 'We're An American Band'; talk about a job well done! And if there really is a fallen angel in hell, Zombie will play 'Lucifer Rising' every night on tour. Bound to be a fan-favourite, this makes you move and groove uncontrollably; it's damn near irresistible. 'Trade In Your Guns For A Coffin' ends this illicit affair with the perfect amount of sex, sleaze and violence. Forget the Pied Piper, it's time to embrace, cherish and worship those Venomous Rats!-- Aaron Small

RCA Living Stereo Classical LPs - The Gold Standard For Top Quality Orchestral Performance And Sound!

Remastered And Cut At 33 1/3 RPM By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound

Lacquers Plated By Gary Salstrom And Pressed On 200-Gram Vinyl At Quality Record Pressings!

Grade A. The exceedingly rare 1s/1s pressing of this disc has been celebrated and sought after ever since Carol B. Kessler wrote her famous article in TAS on the best RCAs (she ranked the 1s/1s Pines the #3 RCA of all-time). If you don't have a 1s/1s pressing, you will doubtlessly find this remastering sensational. Since I do have a 1s/1s, I'd have to say that there are aspects of the 1s/1s that are marginally superior to the Analogue Productions reissue - and vice versa. Though beautiful, string tone doesn't seem quite as silken on the Kassem reissue as it does on the RCA original; on the other hand, the staggeringly powerful bass on The Pines of the Appian Way (replete with gong and organ) retains all of its thunder and then some on the Analogue Productions re-pressing with, once again, a fair measure of tape-like ease and authority. (As with The Reiner Sound, the base is a little murky in spots, probably the results of mic preamp overload. In any event that occasional murkiness is also present on the 1s/1s and the Classic reissue.) - Jonathan Valin, The Absolute Sound.com, June 11, 2013

A highly sought-after RCA shaded dog Living Stereo title, the performance and sonics found within rate a 10/10. A must have - the dynamics are monstrous! Whichever other Respighi tone poem recordings you ultimately purchase, you MUST own this one. Since the early '60s it has been the standard by which all others have been judged, and in terms of both sound and performance, it has never really been surpassed. The final march of Pines is simply incredible: Thundering bass drum, crashing cymbals and gongs, bellowing brass - nobody since has brought the whole thing off with the same combination of excitement and discipline.

    Count Me In (Awaiting Repress)

For the SoCal-based band's fourth full-length independent release, Rebelution has aimed to instill a sense of community, choosing the phrase "Count Me In" as the album's title, representing each member's strong belief in a sense of community and collaboration. "Over the past ten years as an independent band," vocalist/guitarist Eric Rachmany explained, " we have felt a strong connection to the many people who have been incredibly supportive, and could not be more thankful to be a part of such a like-minded, positive and inspiring community."

Released through Rebelution's own label, 87 Music, in partnership with Easy Star Records. Count Me In was recorded between September and December of 2013 in Miami at Inner Cirlce's Circle House Studios and in Burbank, CA at Steakhouse Studios. To mix and master the new album, Rebelution was fortunate enough to work with Grammy Award winning Bernie Grundman Mastering and Legendary Reggae producer/sound engineer Errol Brown, Rebelution's touring engineer and a man who helped shape the Treasure Isle sound before working with Bob Marley & The Wailers at Tuff Gong Studios.

"From writing these songs to mixing and mastering the album, we were involved in every step We're becoming comfortable expressing ourselves, both in the studio and on stage. This album was truly fun to make, it's an honest expression of who we are" revealed Rachmany, and while much of the production was done by the band independently, Rebelution utilized the Reggae-Rock community whole-heartedly to create Count Me In.

The album features special guest appearances, one by dancehall singer Collie Buddz on the track "Hate To Be The One" and legendary Roots-Reggae vocalist Don Carlos on "Roots Reggae Music". Both collaborations are special pairings for the band as Buddz has toured with Rebelution in the recent past, and Carlos has been an enormous vocal influence on Rachmany.

The music and lyrical content varies through the album, providing positive inspiration, encouraging fans to create a pro-active and optimistic impact on society and life. Rachmany continues, "A lot of what we hear every day is that money measures success This new album is a reminder to spread love and positivity to the people around us, these are the true measures of success."

Originally formed in Santa Barbara, CA in 2004, Rebelution's strong do-it-yourself mentality, relentless touring and deep connection to their fan base via social media, has led them to being one of the best-selling reggae artists on the planet.

Since the 2007 release of Courage to Grow, the band's first full-length album, Rebelution's music has been praised for its crafty melodies, socially-conscious lyrics and savvy musicianship. In 2009, Rebelution continued to blaze their path delivering a second record, 2009's Bright Side of Life and then a triple disc release with Peace Of Mind in January of 2012; A record that debuted at #1 on Billboard's Reggae and Independent charts, and at #13 on the Top 200 Albums chart.

Wolf Eyes history stretches from 97-to present with over 500 releases into the either of the musical world: with units only normal instrument being a lone GUITAR thru the years: give and take some gongs and blues harmonica,: strings here put thru a John Cipollina- in year 2098 live thru a drag strip filter fuzz -damage direct from Jim Baljo. Nathan Young provides vox & electronics from a woods possessed by a spirit thats both too ancient and too futuristic to gain comfort in its own proto- rural/urban musical environment. Visions of Dune

A rare synth classic lovingly reissued, Visions of Dune is French electronic pioneer Bernard Szajner's 1979 concept album based around Frank Herbert's cult Dune Trilogy. Remastered from the original tapes and complimented with a new sleeve reimagined by acclaimed Barcelona-based designer Arnau Pi (Young Turks, DJ Kicks), the reissue also Includes two lost pieces from the original sessions left off because EMI considered them to be "too futuristic"! Fittingly, the release of this alternative soundtrack to Dune coincides with the cinema release of award-winning documentary Jodorowsky's Dune about the failed attempt to adapt the book in the mid-70s by the Chilean director. Often described as the "French Brian Eno", and like his British counterpart he has a parallel career as a successful visual artist. Before he started recording music Z established himself as the mastermind behind innovative lighting production for Gong, Magma, Oliver Messiasen, Stomu Yamashta and The Who. Later he became a pioneer in laser technology and robotics. Bernard has recently returned to making music after a long absence, inspired by the praise of musicians he has inspired such as Detroit techno icon Carl Craig, who cites Szajner's music as being in his "all time top ten".

Jack Johnson & Friends: Best Of The Kukua Festival

Just in time for Earth Day, Brushfire Records will release Jack Johnson and Friends: Best of Kokua Festival. The album features a 13-track compilation of live performances from Jack Johnson's benefit concerts for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation. Proceeds from Jack Johnson and Friends: Best of Kokua Festival will benefit the Kokua Hawaii Foundation.

Culled from six years of his eco-minded music festival, Jack Johnson and Friends: Best of Kokua Festival, highlights onstage collaborations with legendary musicians like Willie Nelson, Jackson Browne, Eddie Vedder, Ben Harper, Dave Mathews, Ziggy and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley and more.

Johnson and his band team up with more than a dozen guest artists to perform both original works and spirited covers of classic songs. The album features several of Johnson's breezy folk-rock gems, including "Constellations" (with Eddie Vedder), "Mudfootball" (with Ozomatli & G. Love), "Breakdown" (with ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro), and "Better Together" (with Hawaiian singer Paula Fuga).

Elsewhere on Jack Johnson and Friends: Best of Kokua Festival, Johnson joins his guests for stripped-down renditions of their own songs: Taj Mahal offers his bluesy "Further On Down The Road," Jackson Browne revisits "Take It Easy" with the help of singer/guitarist John Cruz (who also shares his Hawaiian anthem "Island Style"), and the Marley brothers bring the reggae with Ziggy's "Cry, Cry, Cry" and Damian's dancehall banger "Welcome to Jamrock."

Rounding out the record are an eclectic collection of covers, including Bob Marley's "High Tide or Low Tide" (featuring Ben Harper), Bob Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" (featuring Eddie Vedder) and Jimmy Buffet's "A Pirate Looks at Forty" (featuring Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds). Willie Nelson, meanwhile, delivers a Harper-assisted take on "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," the Fred Rose-penned classic he popularized.

Held on Earth Day weekend at Honolulu's Waikiki Shell since its inception in 2004, the Kokua Festival serves as both a community-centered celebration of music and environmental awareness and as the major fundraiser for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation (a nonprofit organization founded by Johnson and his wife Kim in 2003 to support environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawaii). Like the festival itself, Jack Johnson and Friends: Best of Kokua Festival spotlights artists who share the Kokua Hawaii Foundation's mission of protecting the planet and cultivating environmental consciousness.

    Asiatisch

Fatima Al Qadiri is a multidisciplinary artist and musician from Kuwait. In just a few years, she has quickly built a reputation as a conceptual artist, exploring themes informed both by her own background and global pop culture, through a number of highly acclaimed EPs, multimedia projects and writings. She is also a founding member of the production team Future Brown. Fatima's debut album is called 'Asiatisch', and as the track titles suggest, the record provides a simulated road trip through an imagined China. Musically, the album is an homage to that quietly influential sub-strain of grime, often loosely termed 'sinogrime' due to its preoccupation with Asian motifs and melodies, pioneered by the likes of Wiley and Jammer at the beginning of the 2000s in East London. 'Asiatisch' is a provocation which asks more questions than it answers. The title is the German word for Asian. Unlike its title, however, the music on 'Asiatisch' revolves around the fantasies of East Asia as refracted through pulpy Western pop culture, in particular Hollywood, literary fiction, music, cartoons and advertising. Fatima asks what is meant by the term 'Asian' in a digital age of viral interchange and the hi-speed trading of cultural bytes; the concept of 'shanzhai' proves pivotal, a term whose meaning stems from a wild, out of control zone of banditry, but which has come to be used to refer to the Chinese counterfeiting of Western brands and goods. While this 'sinogrime' has had many copyists over the last few years, 'Asiatisch' is really the first record that attempts to articulate this weird complex of sonic interchanges between the West and China. With the exception of the opening track, 'Shanzhai', a haunting cover of 'Nothing Compares To You' with nonsensical Mandarin lyrics, and the shimmering 'Loading Beijing', 'Wudang' and 'Jade Stairs' which sample and distort classical Chinese poetry staging an epic confrontation between China's ancient soul and the onslaught of the industrial factory machine, most of the tracks blend mallets, bells, gongs, flutes, steel drums and choral atmospherics with the searing synth-brass and the skittering drums of grime, playing melodies that are inflected as much by classic R&B as to synthetic versions of traditional Chinese music. On 'Dragon Tattoo' for example, stereotypical iconography of imagined China is slotted into a threatening, robotic R&B format. The carefree pirating of Western brands blurs into a soft-synth pirating of Chinese musical signs. 'Asiatisch' is wrapped in pristine artwork by Babak Radboy from Shanzhai Biennial, and the music was given a 3D sheen by in demand mixer Lexxx. Proclaiming both its love of both ancient and imagined China, 'Asiatisch' is a rare album that is both icily beautiful and conceptually layered.

Sliding Gliding Worlds (Out of Stock)

With Sliding Gliding Worlds, the fourth studio album, Ozric Tentacles were developing their sound away from the Gong and Steve Hillage influenced space rock towards a complex, melodic blend of experimental space jazz and 'world music'. Standout tracks are the storming 'Kick Muck' (later re-recorded for inclusion on Pungent Effulgent) and the African flavoured 'White Rhino Tea', which appeared in a new version on the Strangeitude album in '91; 'Guzzard' recalls the band's earlier work with its dense mix of stabbing guitar solos and synth swirls, but it is Ed Wynne's increased interest in Far Eastern, Arabian and African music that is reflected in the melodic ethnic sounds starting to permeate the Ozrics' music as tracks like 'Mae Hong Song' reveal. The earlier scuzzy dub reggae influences begin to disappear although 'Dusty Pouch' retains some of that feel with a more polished production perhaps indicating the band's growing confidence in a recording environment.

    Camembert Electrique (Out of Stock)

"This is a classic Camembert Electrique remains undated after almost 30 years and hovers
"strong and steamin'" over most of the Gong catalog." - David Ross Smith, All Music Guide

Formed in 1969 by Daevid Allen, one of the founder members of Soft Machine, Gong established itself as
one of the most unique, innovative and experimental rock groups of the Seventies.

Absurd, anarchic and powerfully psychedelic, 'Camembert Electrique' is the first proper Gong album. Originally
released in France on BYG Actuel (a Charly label) in 1971, then licensed to a young Richard Branson
for his fledgling Virgin label in 1974, this iconic and influential album is still devastatingly fresh-sounding
in the 21st century. Weirdness, wisdom, outrÉ rock of the 'highest' order - as you'd expect from the founding-father of acid-rock Daevid Allen.

'Camembert Electrique' is released as a strictly limited edition LP. For the first time ever, the
album has been remastered from the original BYG master tape recently discovered and pressed on
180-gram heavyweight audiophile quality vinyl. The gatefold sleeve is a replica of the original LP
and comes complete with all inserts. For all formats, the original track listing, correct song titles and timings, incorrect on every reissue since 1974, have been restored.
