    Constricting Rage Of The Merciless

From the combatant onset of Poisonous Existence In Reawakening, and the tense, hammering momentum of Unraveling Paradise, to the punkish urgency of FBS and the fiendish cascades of Schadenfreude (literally meaning the pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others), Goatwhore spew their unadulterated, subterranean metal as channeled through the historic likes of Motörhead and Bathory, with the insatiable hunger of a pack of wild boars. These are true requiems of revolt, at once predatory, epic, hate-fueled and sadistic. Due at least in part to the sheer synergy that comes from living in a van together for weeks on end, Constricting Rage Of The Merciless is razor sharp in musicianship literally writhing beneath the weight of its own sonic enormity. Duet's thick, gnarled guitar tones and bestial vocal accents coil seamlessly around Simmons' and Harvey's, brash, chest-heaving rhythms. It's all punctuated by the imposing voice and cynical prose of Falgoust who literally ran laps around the studio before taking to the mic to summon a more frantic, rasping edge to his signature tirades, now more enunciated than ever before. When Falgoust howls, WE ARE COMING TO SMASH YOUR IDOLS! (in traditional metal rager Baring Teeth For Revolt), souls weaken, forests die, planets implode. In a saturated metal landscape where sub-genres spawn sub-sub-genres and the very definition of metal seems repeatedly distorted by cross-pollinating madness, sacred are the bands who to stay true to their proverbial roots without repeating them.

    A Haunting Curse

It's 75 degrees and sunny in St. Petersburg, FL but within the pleasant confines of producer Erik Rutan's increasingly popular Mana Studios come the sounds of the apocalypse; tones of the rhythmically sinister and fist-clenchingly metal variety. It is the audible battery of Goatwhore's Metal Blade debut A Haunting Curse. More molten than its gloomier predecessor, the album stays true to the band's original irreverent Bathory-meets-Baal (the god of thunder) in a bullpen sensibility with punkish resolve and those inimitable Louisiana grooves for which the band has become known. Songs like ber oldschool Bloodletting Upon The Cloven Hoof, the opening Wear These Scars Of Testimony and Silence Marked By The Breaking Of Bone are fast, dark and antagonistic, Falgoust's commanding voice and challenging lyrics adding knee-buckling severity to their collective instrumental agility. Rhythms collide with stop-on-a-dime accuracy and Duet's vexing riffs give things a torrential horns-to-the-sky exigency. A Haunting Curse is here to devour. You have been warned.

    Slaves To The Grave

Slaves to the Grave is the last will and testament of the Dallas/Ft Worth band who influenced artists from Nine Inch Nails to Slipknot, and features members of GWAR, Ministry, Warbeast, Revolting Cocks and Lard. Fated for release, the recording sessions wrapped just days before the tragic loss of guitarist Mike Scaccia, who suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed while performing on stage. Rigor Mortis hit the national scene in 1987 as the first underground Heavy Metal band to sign to a major label. Their 1988 debut record, RIGOR MORTIS (Capitol), has since become legendary in the thrash/speed metal community, influencing bands like Toxic Holocaust and Goatwhore, and motivating Ministry to leave the disco for the Metal arena. Ministry would, in turn, influence everything from Nine Inch Nails to Marilyn Manson and Slipknot. The members would remain friends through thick and thin throughout the years, and in 2012 the pieces finally came together. Rigor Mortis entered the studio to record what was to be their comeback record. Older, wiser and good with their personal lives Rigor Mortis had finally come full circle. Then, on December 22nd, 2012, it all came to a halt. While playing their home town club in Ft. Worth in celebration of singer Bruce Corbitt's 50th birthday, midway through the set Mike Scaccia suffered a massive heart attack and collapsed on stage. He could not be revived and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight. Rigor Mortis was over. Though never discussed, all knew there was no Rigor Mortis without Mike, but the album was recorded and almost finished. As fate would have it, just days before he died Mike went into the studio and put the finishing touches on all of his parts, effectively enabling the guys to finish the record, knowing that Scaccia was happy with it. They endeavored every step of the way to do justice to the Rigor Mortis legacy, and bring honor to Mike Scaccia's last recorded testament. We think he would be proud.

Carving Out The Eyes Of God

After the release of A Haunting Curse, Goatwhore stayed busy playing multiple tours across all over the world including a coveted spot on 2007's Sounds of the Underground and 2008's Ozzfest in Texas where metal juggernauts Metallica closed out the day of metal. Other tours and dates included Sunn O))), Hatebreed, All Shall Perish, Celtic Frost, Venom, Fear Factory, Suffocation, Cattle Decapitation, God Forbid, and Amon Amarth just to name a few. Obviously Goatwhore kept themselves busy throughout the course of the album cycle playing with a wide variety of bands proving just how multi faceted the group's reach is.

Enter 2009: New Orleans, LA's sons of American no-frills black metal, GOATWHORE, have just announced that the title of their fourth full-length album, and second for Metal Blade, will be Carving Out the Eyes of God. For the follow up to 2006's A Haunting Curse, GOATWHORE headed back to St. Petersburg, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan at Manna Studios with mastering being handled by Alan Douches of West West Side.

Vocalist Ben Falgoust comments on the direction of the new album; I don't really know how to explain this. I don't want to come off with the typical speech about how this record is our best yet and all of that. I will say that I am quite pleased how it has turned out and all parts relating to it. I feel every member put a great deal of effort into their part of the project. I even feel Erik Rutan busted his ass even more this time to make us feel that we didn't take any steps backwards in the recording and production of this release. I don't even really care what the critics say. I think the end result is basically coming up with something you have put a lot of work into and the satisfaction achieved in completing it. I will say that the new material is ripping metal and we still have that 'Goatwhore' sound, whatever that may mean for each individual that enjoys or hates what we do. Just look at it as another step in the evolution of this band. Each person that hears it will have his or her own perception of it. Like it or not, we don't have a say in it. The only thing we can do is just keep writing the way we do and accept the criticism. Doesn't mean we are gonna listen to the criticism and change. Just give it an honest listen and if you dig it, awesome! If you don't, then pass it on to a friend or use it as a new drink coaster.

Guitarist Sammy Duet had this to add; Dark, heavy, evil. Erik Rutan did one hell of a job on it. If you don't like it... kiss my ass.

    Savage Gold

TOMBS' third album Savage Gold is the most anticipated underground metal album of 2014. The band's sophomore LP Path Of Totality unanimously topped 2011 end of the year metal lists (everyone from Decibel to Pitchfork to NPR, and more, dubbed it their top album of that year). Savage Gold focuses the awesome strength of Tombs' previous works into one brilliantly dark post-punk and extreme black-metal masterpiece. Recorded and produced by Hate Eternal's Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore), Savage Gold both expands upon the moody post-punk foundations that Tombs' prior albums explored while also bringing out the band's most traditionally metal moments yet. Once every few years a record comes along that sets a new benchmark for what can be done in heavy music. This is that moment and this is that record.
