    Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip

    Red Colored Vinyl

After years of anticipation, super producer/emcee Hi-Tek presents his sophomore release Hi- Teknology Vol. 2. Hi-Tek first jumped on the radar with the huge success and critical acclaim of his collaboration with Talib Kweli and Mos Def on 1998's Black Star album. The accolades continued with the release of the equally classic Train of Thought, in which Hi-Tek and long time partner Talib Kweli reunited as Reflection Eternal. Building off his rapidly growing notoriety, Tek cemented his status as an accomplished (and commercially viable) producer/emcee with the release of his solo debut, Hi- Teknology, in 2001. Between 2001's Hi-Teknology & the forthcoming Hi-Teknology Vol. 2, Hi-Tek has produced a catalog of hits for a ''who's who'' of hip-hop's finest. His track record speaks for itself, having amassed pro- duction credits for the likes of 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Busta Rhymes, Lloyd Banks, Common and many more. Hi-Teknology 2 features guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, The Game, Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg, Slim Thug, Raekwon, Tha Doggpound, Bun B., Q-Tip, Mos Def & more and is produced entirely by Hi-Tek himself. Hi-Teknology Vol. 2 is the next step in a fruitful career and another in a long line of classic releases from Hi-Tek.

    The Infamous

The Infamous is the second studio album by the American Hip Hop duo Mobb Deep, released in 1995. The album features guest apperances from Nas, Wu-Tang Clan members, Reakwon and Ghostface Killah. It marked Mobb Deep's transition from a relatively unknown Rap duo to an influential and commercially successful one.

One of the cornerstones of the New York hardcore movement, The Infamous is Mobb Deep's masterpiece, a relentlessly bleak song cycle that's been hailed by hardcore Rap fans as one of the most realistic gangsta albums ever recorded.

This is hard, underground Hip Hop that demands to be met on its own terms, with few melodic hooks to draw the listener in. Similarly, there's little pleasure or relief offered in the picture of the streets Mobb Deep paint here. They inhabit a war zone where crime and paranoia hang constantly in the air.

The product of an uncommon artistic vision, The Infamous stands as an all-time gangsta/hardcore classic.

Ghostface Killah is an American rapper and critically acclaimed for his loud, fast-paced flow and his colorful storytelling rap. His stage name was taken from one of the characters in the 1979 kung fu film Mystery of Chessboxing and he is the founder of his own label Starks Enterprises.

He was a prominent member of the Wu-Tang Clan and after the group achieved breakthrough success in the aftermath of Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), the members went on to pursue solo careers on which Ghostface Killah was the most successful one of the group.

The rapper started off his solo-career with Ironman in 1996, which was well received by music critics. He has continued his success over the following years with critically acclaimed albums such as Supreme Clientele (2000), Bulletproof Wallets (2001) and Fishscale (2006).

Bulletproof Wallets is the third studio album by Ghostface Killah. Its feature single, Never Be the Same Again, featured Carl Thomas and Raekwon. Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics: Instrumentals

Linear Labs Now Brings You Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics In A Never Before Issued Instrumental Edition

The Delfonics is the quintessential sweet-soul group. Hailing from Philadelphia, the crew formed in the mid-'60s, with the definitive original lineup as lead
vocalist and songwriter William Hart, his brother Wilbert Hart, and mutual high-school friend Randy Cain (later replaced by Major Harris). With the help of
producer/arranger Thom Bell-and with William's signature falsetto-the Delfonics set the tone for all other sweet-soul groups that would follow.

Between 1968 and 1974, the Delfonics had twenty charting singles and won a Grammy for their massive hit Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time). Out of
their twenty hits, William Hart wrote or co-wrote eighteen of them, thirteen with collaborator Thom Bell, like La-La Means I Love You, He Don't Really
Love You, and Ready or Not Here I Come (Can't Hide From Love). After five albums, the Delfonics would break up for good in 1975. Brothers William and
Wilbert parted ways and over the years often toured separately with different forms of the group. But over forty years after writing his first hit, lead singer
and songwriter William Hart has put his unmistakable falsetto back on analog tape and reinvented the Delfonics brand for a new generation.

Los Angeles producer/composer Adrian Younge envisioned a modern-day Delfonics album and pitched the idea to William Hart, who hopped a plane from
Philly to L.A. and began work on a new album. Younge helped to reshape the Delfonics by bringing on board two excellent young vocalists, Loren Oden
and Saudia Mills-as well as Om'Mas Keith on the single Stop and Look (And You Have Found Love)-to work alongside William. Adrian Younge is a
self-taught multi-instrumentalist who traded in his MPC sampler for a carefully curated studio of authentic gear. Younge rocketed to international
recognition after composing the original score for the film Black Dynamite and has since release ground-breaking projects including The Souls of
Mischief's "There Is Only Now" and Ghostface Killah's "Twelve Reasons to Die" concept albums.

Younge brings a unique perspective on modern rhythm and blues. I was studying Delfonics stuff for years, Younge reveals. I studied Delfonics to do the
Black Dynamite stuff. I've been a fan, and I've just studied their music for so long that when I got the opportunity to do this, it just really blew my mind.
From the very beginning, it was Younge's intention to create an old-school Delfonics vibe but offer a very hip-hop-informed perspective. There are
distinguishing musical elements that Delfonics fans will recognize, like the electric sitar guitar, the French horn, string arrangements, and the tympani. I
want people to expect something classic but not expect to hear the same thing rehashed, Younge says. I want to push it forward. William and I strived to
    push this forward.

Younge now makes this breath-taking musical outing available once again on his own Linear Labs imprint.

    Czarface

    In music, timing is everything.

When soon-to-be-renowned Boston hip-hop duo 7L & Esoteric collaborated with the Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck on the title track to 7LES's debut EP Speaking Real Words in 1999, the timing was perfect. The upstart duo was building a serious buzz on the East Coast and beyond, while Deck was still winning praise for his gold-selling solo disc Uncontrolled Substance. As flashy pop-oriented rap was pumped
on commercial radio stations, their natural chemistry and simpatico skills shone as a beacon to real hip-hop fans, a base of listeners who were soon
asking about their next musical summit.

14 years later, the hunger for sharp lyrics and head-snapping beats hasn't dissipated. In the face of the ever-worsening status quo of watered-down
and vapid radio rap songs, the call for something real has only gotten stronger, and once again the time is right for a call to action - for someone or something to come in and send wack rappers running for the hills in fear. Enter CZARFACE, the upcoming, uncompromising full-length album from Inspectah Deck and 7L & Esoteric.

Not surprising, respect for real hip-hop runs deep, and CZARFACE brings an army with it - consider the star-studded guest list which
includes Roc Marciano, Action Bronson, Vinnie Paz (Jedi Mind Tricks,) Oh No (Gangrene,) Mr. MFN eXquire and Deck's fellow Wu-Tang Clansmen Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna.

Aside from one track blessed by the almighty DJ Premier, production on CZARFACE belongs exclusively to DJ 7L, who provides the musical backbone which holds the album together. His ability to craft a hip-hop sound that's current and exciting with a classic feel left Deck impressed: "This is one of the first albums I've heard in a while that gives you so many different feels. You hear the '80s hip-hop style, '80s R&B and rock combined with what's going on now. That's creating something new, in
    my opinion."

A collaboration this big is bound to catch some attention, as it has from MISHKA NYC artist Lamour Supreme, who penned the eye-popping Jack "King" Kirby inspired cover art for CZARFACE.

    36 Seasons

Tony Starks returns to Staten Island after 9 years, like a man returning home from a war. He wants the company of old friends, to reunite with his girl, to live a quiet life. But New York has other plans for him Pitchfork Media has said "Ghostface has unparalleled storytelling instincts. He might be the best, most colorful storyteller rap has ever seen". Q Magazine called him "rap's finest storyteller". On his new release 36 Seasons those powers have never been more in-focus, as he takes his listeners on a gut-wrenching journey of double-cross and revenge through the rough and rugged housing projects of New York's Staten Island.

On 36 Seasons Ghostface once again delivers exactly what the hardcore Wu-fans crave: desperate tales from the dark side over soulful boom-bap tracks. The soundscape is provided The Revelations
[Brooklyn's acclaimed soul band/production team]. Their hard-hitting tracks match the intensity of Ghost's violent narrative. His co-stars on 36 Seasons are legendary lyricists and storytellers in their own right, 3 of the greatest of all-time: AZ, Kool G Rap and Pharoahe Monch. The album also features vocal contributions from Blue Note Records' rising star Kandace Springs and gritty soul singers Rell and Tre Williams.

    Mr. Wonderful

He may sound like Wu-Tang Clan's Ghostface Killah, but when rapper Action Bronson calls upon his past life as a chef and spits heavy culinary knowledge in his songs, you certainly won't confuse the two. After studying at the Art Institute of New York City's culinary program, Action went on to join the restaurant business as a chef. He slipped in the kitchen breaking his leg, was out of work, and decided to become a rapper. His mixtapes gained him popularity on the web and his performances intrigued the masses landing him a major label deal.

    Cosmogramma

In the past couple of years since his debut album, Los Angeles, Flying Lotus has grown into the position of being far more than a producer, he has helped materialize a far-reaching strain of musical ideology that has encompassed not only a global family of like-minded artists, but also a nearly infinite palate of planetary sonics. No longer simply an outgrowth of Ellison's machines, the music here is also the product of live instrumentalists from the worlds that Cosmogramma engages. There's the constant bass presence of Thundercat, a cornerstone of Sa-Ra Creative; there's Rebekah Raff's harp connecting the dots between the music of Harry Partch and Ghostface Killah (both of which she's performed); there's an appearance by the tenor sax of Steven's cousin and jazz royalty, Ravi Coltrane, and by the voice of one Thom Yorke, an Oxford bloke taking respite from singing in the most influential rock band of the 21st century.

After a 5 year hiatus, Canadian electronic music producers MSTRKRFT (Jessi F. Keeler & Al-P) are back. Driven by distorted drum beats, hauntingly hypnotic synths, and booming cinematic soul, OPERATOR immediately captivates. "It's probably the most acurate reflection of how we work on stage," says Jesse. "We had to be very creative with very few elements. It took time to figure that out".

2011 was the last time we heard from MSTRKRFT with the release of the single "BACK IN THE USSA", following their Juno Award-winning debut album THE LOOKS in 2006. MSTRKRFT have released official remixes for everybody from KATY PERRY and KYLIE MINOGUE to WOLFMOTHER, Justice and Bloc Party. 2009's FIST OF GOD boasted collaborations with the likes of John Legend, Ghostface Killah, E-40, N.O.R.E., Lil' Mo and more as it predicted an eventual crossover between hip-hop and electronic music on the horizon.

    100 Days, 100 Nights

On October 2nd, renowned Soul and Funk band Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings released 100 Days, 100 Nights on their self-owned independent label, Daptone Records. Since the 2005 release of their Naturally LP, the band has continued to build a worldwide following for their raw soulful recordings and blistering live performances. Like the highly acclaimed Naturally LP before it, 100 Days, 100 Nights was recorded in their self-built, self-operated, all analog recording studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn and bares the unmistakable Daptone Soul Sound - highly in demand among music fans and tastemakers alike. In the last year, producers such as Kanye West, Mark Ronson, Hank Shocklee, and Kenny Dope have been among those who came knocking at Daptones door seeking the inimitable Dap-Kings sound. The Dap-Kings lend a tougher edge to their own productions for such artists as Rhymefest, Lily Allen, Ghostface Killah and Amy Winehouse. Meanwhile, Sharon Jones herself has past the time between touring lending the her soulful voice to projects for Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, They Might Be Giants and others.

    Policy

Will Butler has been a member of the band Arcade Fire for over 10 years.
This is his first release under his own name.

Policy is American music-in the tradition of the Violent Femmes, The
Breeders, The Modern Lovers, Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, The Magnetic
Fields, Ghostface Killah. And John Lennon (I know, but it counts).
Music where the holy fool runs afoul of the casual world.

Policy was recorded in one week in Jimi Hendrix's old living room
(upstairs at Electric Lady Studios). Jeremy Gara played drums; other
musicians contributed woodwinds and backing vocals. Most everything else
    was played by Will.

The song structures are traditional; the arrangements are clean. The music is
experimental only in that it attacks consistency as a requirement for sincerity.
The songs are angry, loving, joking, tired, honest, idiotic. They clash against
each other but also fit and work together-as if a blind watchmaker made a
Frankenstein watch that came alive and told extremely accurate time while
having conflicting feelings about its creator. No, about creation itself. But
then the watch makes friends with a talking rat, and they go on hilarious
adventures until it turns out that the rat was dead the whole time. With a
really good credits song-I mean, the whole soundtrack is excellent. You
    should check it out.

    Yours truly,

    Memphis Slim

    Atrocity Exhibition (Awaiting Repress)

He is unmatchable in flow, delivery, and voice. Danny Brown has all the tools to be the greatest working rapper. -PITCHFORK

Atrocity Exhibition is one of the freshest and boldest-sounding rap albums in recent memory, a sonic swirl inspired by the work of Talking Heads and Joy Division that nonetheless sounds like nothing else from the past or present. Featuring contributions from producers like Evian Christ, Petite Noir (who also lends vocals to the world-weary clang of "Rolling Stone"), Black Milk, the Alchemist and frequent collaborator Paul White, the album is full of laser-beam guitars, gym-teacher whistles, creaking vocal samples, and air-raid drones. It is the most intriguing take on hallucinatory rap since the heady heights of Cold Vein or Madvillainy.

Known for his wide range of collaborations, including everyone from Purity Ring, the Avalanches and Rustie to Schoolboy Q, E-40, and Ghostface Killah, Atrocity Exhibition sees a continuation of this carefully curated mix. Kelela lends her snaking vocals to the intriguingly murky "From the Ground," Cypress Hill's B-Real delivers "Get Hi"'s languid hook, and Earl Sweatshirt, Kendrick Lamar, and Ab-Soul all convene for the twinkling ominousness of album standout "Really Doe." "When XXX came out, all of us were peers, and those were the three rappers who were the best," Brown explains on having the star-packed trio appear on the track. "I felt like we were competitors, they made me want to step my game up. I wanted to put the hottest rappers in the game on there."

This album is a highly personal take on Brown's ruminations on life and the changes that have occurred -and those that didn't - following the ups and downs of career success. Atrocity Exhibition makes for a thrilling third installment in the Danny Brown biopic, one not to be missed.

    Late Night Tales: BADBADNOTGOOD (Unmixed)

Canadian quartet BadBadNotGood take on creating the ultimate "late night" selection of tracks from their record collections.

The original trio of Matthew Tavares, Alex Sowinski and Chester Hansen formed while studying music at Toronto's Humber College (they've recently added Leland Whitty to the line-up). A shared appreciation of hip hop and instrumental covers of Gucci Mane and Earl Sweatshirt suggested a worldly outlook and reciprocated love from Tyler The Creator and Ghostface Killah, with whom they made 2015's Sour Soul. Their last album, the critically-acclaimed IV, turned heads and their collaborators continue to multiply: Snoop Dogg, Kaytranada and Kendrick Lamar among them.

"We were really excited to have the chance to put together a LateNightTales compilation, it's a great organisation. We decided to use it as a vehicle to show everyone all the amazing music we have gotten to experience by touring and meeting new people.

Every track on this comp was either shown to us by an incredible person or made by one of our friends. We also included a little cover of a song by one of our favourite current musicians, Andy Shauf. These artists, as well as many, many others, have influenced us to create, and kept our deep love of music alive. This mix will keep you company on a quiet night by yourself or with friends. You can check it out on the plane, the bus, a long walk, or any situation where you want a soundtrack for reflection and meditation."

    - BADBADNOTGOOD May 2017

You can even hear little bits of BadBadNotGood through this mix, as though they are transmitting parts of themselves through the music they select. Perhaps the keys on Admas' hilariously expensive 'Anchi Bale Game', maybe, or the arrangements on Delegation's mighty Britsoul tune 'Oh Honey' or the groove from 'Vida Antiga', Erasmo Carlos' Brazilian classic. As Janis almost sang, take another little piece of my art.

This is an international effort: Velly Joonas' Estonian version of 'Feel Like Makin' Love', Kiki Gyan, Admas and Francis Bebey representing Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia and Cameroon respectively), Les Prospection from France, Scots' Boards Of Canada and fellow Canucks River Tiber and Charlotte Day Wilson.

Finally, there's the no-small-matter of the Late Night Tales cover version, in which BadBadNotGood take on Andy Shauf's 'To You' is turned into a mournful delight. while the Queen Of Siam herself, Lydia Lunch, delivers a sexual sermon involving only you, her and Jim Beam.

    Every Hero Needs A Villain

Comic Book Inspired Cover From L'amour Supreme (Mishka NYC)

Includes A Comic Book Written By Esoteric With Artwork By Gilberto Aguirre Mata (El Ultimo Codice) & L'amour Supreme

CZARFACE - Wu-Tang founding MC Inspectah Deck and veteran Boston duo 7L & Esoteric - isn't concerned
with the glitz and the B.S. that modern consumer culture is pushing. And neither are the group's fans.

In 2013, the trio appeared relatively unassumingly with their self-titled debut, which was chiefly produced by DJ 7L and included guests ranging from Ghostface Killah and Cappadonna to Vinnie Paz, Action Bronson and Roc Marciano. The soon-to-be acclaimed group found out quickly that there was a groundswell of hip-hop fanatics thirsting for the lunchpail, lyrics-above-all-else rap they fell in love with in the '90s. Several pressings of the album on CD, 2-LP and even cassette later, they are back and ready to up the ante.

This time around the group is the same, but it's fair to say that all three men have stepped up their game. "We knew how we felt about the last album, but weren't sure how it would be received by listeners," explains MC Esoteric. "But people really responded to it, even more than we had hoped. That gave us the confidence to really spread our wings and let loose on this one. The chemistry is even tighter this time around. We know exactly what lanes we are cruising in and what weight class we are fighting in for Round 2."

Inspectah Deck adds, "Czarface is like the Danger Room for the X-Men, I can use all my weapons on there. When I'm in Wu-Tang, I have to come a certain way because we have a certain style of fan, when I'm here doing the Czarface projects, it allows me to actually be an MC, it allows me to actually just spit...I love that. I love when i can just spit freely and just be an MC."

The fighting analogy - whether drawn from pugilism or '80s wrestling, both which figure into Every Hero Needs A Villain - is an apt one, considering the unrelenting lyrical attacks that Deck and Esoteric unleash on track after track, each trying to one-up the previous verse.

Best of all, it is friendly camaraderie, based around a loose theme of renegade mutant MC talents running wild. DJ 7L explains, "All three of us are influenced by comics, sci-fi movies, TV, wrestling. Czarface encompasses all of that, and it helps with the visuals as well."

On the production side, 7L shows yet again - as he did with the group's debut - that he remains a formidable yet underappreciated musical force, constantly providing hard, funky and alternatingly ominous backdrops for the assembled MCs to use as lyrical luge paths.

If that wasn't enough, the double LP comes packaged with "Death & Abduction," a comic written by Esoteric, and has an explosive, comic-book-inspired cover by L'amour Supreme (Mishka NYC).

    Adrian Younge Presents: The Delfonics
