    Freedom! '90

Freedom '90 (also known simply as Freedom) is a song written, produced, and performed by George Michael, and released on Columbia Records in 1990. It was the third single taken from Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, though released as the second single from the album in Australia. Freedom '90 was one of a few uptempo songs on this album, it was also a major hit and went to #8 in the US. The song is referring to George's past success with Wham! but also shows a new side of himself as a new man, who is more cynical about the music business than he had been before. Michael refused to appear in the video and let a group of supermodels appear instead.

Available for the first time on 180 Gram 45rpm Double Vinyl!

Experience Diana Krall's The Look Of Love as you've never heard it before... on 45rpm Heavyweight 180 Gram Audiophile Double Vinyl! Diana Krall's voice sounds fuller, richer and sweeter!

Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the Original Analogue Master Tapes & Pressed at RTI! Numbered Deluxe Laminated Gatefold Jackets!

In order to achieve the BEST possible sound ORG has cut The Look Of Love on 4 sides and at 45rpm to allow the maximum cutting level. This gives the record the best signal to noise ratio, better dynamics, less inner groove distortion and better overall sound!

From the luxurious opening chords of the first track, even before Diana Krall has sung a single beautiful note, The Look of Love, will have you hooked. After winning a Best Jazz Vocal Performance Grammy for 1999's platinum-selling When I Look in Your Eyes, Diana Krall delivers her best album yet - a lush, cinematic collection of ballads and bossa nova tunes. Featuring the London Symphony Orchestra arranged and conducted by the legendary Claus Ogerman, The Look of Love brings to mind such classic Frank Sinatra albums as In the Wee Small Hours and Only The Lonely. These elegant piano solos, the sensual vocals, and the wickedly modern sense of humor are, inimitably, all Diana Krall.

The Look of Love is the fifth album by Diana Krall in a row that Tommy LiPuma, Verve Music Group Chairman, produced. LiPuma is also known for his work with Barbra Streisand, Miles Davis, Joao Gilberto, Natalie Cole and Shirley Horn. Regarding Claus Ogerman, Diana Krall said that, together with Johnny Mandel, he has been her favorite arranger/composer since she was seventeen. Ogerman had an important role on albums recorded by Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Ogerman also had been working for years together with LiPuma, for the first time on George Benson's outstanding album Breezin'. Since Claus Ogerman featuring Michael Brecker in 1990, the two had gone separate ways. But when Diana Krall was on tour in Munich, LiPuma arranged for her to have lunch with Ogerman. That is how the pianist/singer, the arranger/composer and the producer began to work on a common project: The Look of Love.

Diana's songs were arranged by Claus Ogerman who also conducts the London Symphony Orchestra. The Look of Love gives an impression of unity despite the fact that it contains material from a lot of different sources: e.g. Cry Me A River by Julie London, Love Letters by Nat King Cole and jazz-standards such as Dancing in the Dark by Arthur Schwartz (music)/Howard Dietz (text), I Remember You by Victor Scherzinger/John Mercer and 'S Wonderful by George and Ira Gershwin.

Young Croatian cellists Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, together known as 2CELLOS, have achieved sensational success by taking the cello to a new level. Their playing style has broken down the boundaries between different genres of music, from classical and film music to Pop and Rock. 2CELLOS have no limits when it comes to performing live and are equally as impressive when playing Bach and Vivaldi as they are when rocking out AC/DC. Their debut album is a thrilling collection of chart-topping Rock and Pop songs performed in their signature style.

2CELLOS rose to fame in 2011 when their version of Michael Jackson's ''Smooth Criminal'' took the world by storm. The YouTube video became a massive viral sensation leading to a record deal with Sony Masterworks and an invitation to join Sir Elton John on his worldwide tour. The song charted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Digital Songs Chart and landed the 2CELLOS' debut album in the Top 100.

In addition to many sold out solo tours (US, Japan, Europe) and collaborations with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age and George Michael, the duo have also appeared on major TV shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Bachelor and many others. Together with the Chinese classical superstar pianist Lang Lang, they appeared at the CCTV New Year's Gala for more than 1 billion viewers.

    Reservoir Dogs Soundtrack

    25th Anniversary Edition

Could you think of any other film producer that picks better soundtracks than the widely revered Quentin Tarantino? Inventing a genre on his own, his string of best-selling nouvelle violence movies started out in 1992 with the low budget cult classic Reservoir Dogs.

The film follows a band of criminals preparing for a diamond heist and follows the characters in the crime's aftermath. Its cast consists of sublime actors such as Harvey Keitel (whose comeback was a direct result of this film), Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn (Sean's brother) and Steve Buscemi as the legendary character of Mr. Pink. The film's sparkling dialog catapulted Reservoir Dogs to eternal cult status and remains a favorite among movie fans all over the world, a fame to which its soundtrack contributed a great deal.

Music On Vinyl is proud to release these so-called 'Super Sounds Of The Seventies', a selection of unusual and sometimes wacky hits by artists such as Stealers Wheel, Harry Nilsson (Coconut is included on Nilsson Schmilsson [MOVLP279]) and Joe Tex. The movie also raised public interest in the Dutch band George Baker Selection, due to the use of his Little Green Bag in the film's opening titles. Keep On Truckin'!

Exactly 25 years ago this cult film was released in theatre.

21st Century Vinyl: Michael Fremer's Practical Guide to Turntable Set-Up

Stereophile magazine senior contributing editor and analog expert Michael Fremer presents his almost three hour long Practical Guide to Turntable Set-Up. Fremer sets up three popular turntables from Pro-Ject, Rega and VPI. Using the hands-on phono cartridge installation techniques, tips and basic principles demonstrated with close-ups and flash animation, any turntable from the popular Technics SL-1200 to the most esoteric can be set up to perfection. Also included: an interview with famed Sterling Sound mastering engineer George Marino, and a 20 page PDF file embedded in the disc's DVD-ROM section that includes even more detailed technical descriptions and an article on record cleaning no vinyl fan should be without. Despite the seemingly dry subject matter, the disc is entertaining. There are even some laughs as Fremer once did stand up comedy (he played legendary Max's Kansas City and even opened for bands like Television and The Jam).

    Voodoo

First Vinyl Release Since its Original Release in 2000!

With Original Artwork and New Liner Notes Featuring Interviews with ?uestlove, Pino Palladino, and More!

Ranked 488/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Voodoo hit store shelves on January 25th 2000. But the first great album of the new millennium was born in the 1990s, and its muggy grooves capture the sound of premillennial anxiety. The album is the product of perfectionism, obsession and paranoia. 1995's debut Brown Sugar had already strategically positioned D'Angelo-born Michael Eugene Archer and Virginia-raised to a Pentecostal preacher father-as the next Hendrix-like deity in black music, after Prince and maybe Lenny Kravitz.

Though inspired by the birth of his children and trips back to Virginia, Voodoo's roots are in 1960s, '70s and '80s funk and soul; a nostalgic nod to the ideas and inventions of black music trailblazers powered by avant-garde hip-hop and jazzinfluenced rhythms. D'Angleo's aim, he said, was to reclaim R&B. He wanted to be like Sly Stone, George Clinton and Al Green. And most of all, he wanted to be like Jimi Hendrix.

The concept behind Voodoo was simple. Put together a brilliant ensemble of R&B musicians bent on grooving together. Record them live, in real-time, jamming face-to-face in an effort to capture their conviviality and chemistry. For Voodoo's core rhythm trio, D'Angelo recruited his friend and colleague, The Roots' visionary drummer Ahmir ?uestlove Thompson, plus Welsh journeyman Pino Palladino to hold down the bass. It was a combination that gelled immediately.

Ahh... The Name Is Bootsy, Baby!

    Produced by George Clinton

Following up on their debut Stretchin' Out In Bootsy's Rubber Band [MOVLP1375], Ahh The Name Is Bootsy, Baby! is the second album by American Funk act Bootsy's Rubber Band, originally released in 1977. The album was produced by Parliament Funkadelic's funk meister George Clinton and bass player & front man William Bootsy Collins. With the help of Clinton, the band has released four LPs in the '70s. This particular album reached number One on Billboard magazine's Top R&B/Soul albums chart.

The band features Bootsy's brother Phelps Catfish Collins, Jr on guitar, Frankie Kash on drums, Frederick Flintstone Allen on drums and James Brown regulars Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley on horns. Guest appearances include saxophonist Randy and trumpeter Michael Brecker, and keyboardist Bernie Worrell, amongst others.

Everything on the album is excellent, that is true of up-tempo smokers like The Pinocchio Theory and the title song as well as slow, moody, eerie offerings such as What's a Telephone Bill? and Munchies For Your Love. The lyrics are consistently humorous and clever, the grooves are consistently infectious. Ahh... The Name Is Bootsy, Baby! bears that distinctive P-funk sound, and is essential listening for lovers of hard 1970s Funk.

    Pipes Of Peace

Perhaps it isn't surprising that McCartney's grip on the pop charts started to slip with Pipes of Peace, since it was released after his 40th birthday -- and most rockers do not mature particularly gracefully. Although it's rather fascinating that the album didn't reach the Top Ten, despite a blockbuster duet with Michael Jackson in Say Say Say, Pipes of Peace bewilders in other ways, particularly in its allusions to Tug of War. It often seems as if this album was constructed as a deliberate mirror image of its predecessor; it is also produced by George Martin, also contains two duets with an African-American superstar (Jackson here, Stevie Wonder there), also acknowledges an old bandmate (a Lennon tribute there, a Ringo cameo here), and even contains Tug of Peace, a deliberate answer song to its predecessor. If only it were nearly as adventurous as Tug of War! Instead of dabbling in all his myriad musical personas, McCartney settles back into a soft rock groove, tempered somewhat by a desire to be contemporary (which means a heavy reliance on drum machines and synthesizers). Instead of sounding modern, McCartney winds up sounding like an aging rocker desperately trying to keep up with the time, but that in turn means that Pipes of Peace can often reveal what the early '80s were like for aging rockers -- he does embrace technology, but he winds up with immaculate productions that are decidedly of their time. Still, at its best, Pipes of Peace is ingratiating soft rock. In particular, the first side is close to irresistible, with the title track being a mid-tempo mini-epic, Say Say Say being fine pop-funk, So Bad being so sickly sweet that it's alluring, The Man being an effervescent Jackson duet, and The Other Me scoring with its square dance beats and winning McCartney vocal. Not enough to add up to a latter-day triumph from McCartney, but it still contains better songs than its blockbuster mid-'70s counterparts, and even if it's a little lightweight, it has more flair in its craft and more style in its sound than other McCartney albums, which is enough to make it a minor musical success, despite its disappointing chart performance.

Songs In The Key Of Life

No. 56 On Rolling Stone's List Of 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time

    2x 180 Gram Vinyl + Bonus 7-Inch EP

Two years in the making, Songs In The Key Of Life is a groundbreaking sonic masterpiece that brilliantly brings together Stevie Wonder's genius for pop music, his bold experimentation, and his lyrical humanitarian concerns. Released on the Tamla label by Motown in late September 1976, the 21-song album remains an immeasurable influential recording.

A critically acclaimed double-LP that includes a four-song bonus EP and a 24-page booklet, Songs In The Key Of Life is the first album by an American artist, and the first double-album, to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Pop Album Chart. The album won the Grammy® for Album of the Year; Wonder also won for Producer of the Year; Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male; and Best R&B Vocal Performance, Male. The latter was awarded for "I Wish," the first single from the album, which hit No. 1 Pop and R&B. "Sir Duke," the follow-up single, was No. 1 on both charts as well, while "Another Star" and "As" were each Top 40 hits on the Pop and R&B charts; "Another Star" was also a top 3 club chart hit. Among the album's many other notable tracks, "Isn't She Lovely" was a hit without being released as a single; "Pastime Paradise" became the basis of Coolio's 1995 rap hit "Gangsta's Paradise," a No. 1 hit in many countries worldwide. A cover of "As," by George Michael and Mary J. Blige, was a top 5 hit in the U.K. in 1999. That same year, "I Wish" was prominently sampled in the No. 1 hit by Will Smith, "Wild Wild West."

Songs In The Key Of Life, with Wonder and his band Wonderlove accompanied by all-star musicians and singers, is No. 56 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." It is one of the few albums to be awarded Diamond status by the RIAA, for sales of more than ten million copies in the U.S.

    Axe To Fall

After nearly 20 years, such a glorious run of releases and a live show that's gone from flailing kids flailing against kids to legendary exorcism for both band and audience - watch the pit during "The Saddest Day" and tell me it's not the closest thing to a near-religious experience atheists will ever have - Converge could be forgiven for releasing an endeavour that was simply good, okay, just maintaining their status quo. After all, it's much easier to win the title than retain it, and even the greats slip from time to time. Axe To Fall (Converge's third release for indie institution Epitaph Records), however, is no such relapse.
True to themselves and their art, as always, no matter the cost, Axe To Fall continues to push relentlessly forward, much like a shark that needs to always keep swimming to survive. Where No Heroes was a refinement and broadening of hostilities declared on previous assaults such as Jane Doe, Axe To Fall returns to the more AmRep-inspired noisecore abrasions of You Fail Me while also updating and making vital the thrash influences that defined earlier Converge efforts (Caring and Killing, Petitioning the Empty Sky) and retaining the hardcore hostilities and frantic pace so vital to their foundation. Of course, the experimental anguish and pleading for salvation are no mere sharpening of past knives but yet another leap forward in an existence full of them.

From frenetic, frantic opening track "Dark Horse," which is a downhill avalanche of ferocity culminating in one of the heaviest riffs Converge have ever laid listeners to waste with, to "Worms Will Feed," an ominous exploration that ebbs and flows, building upon crashing then retreating waves of music and lyrical condemnations ("the worms will find a way, the rats will find a way"), to the barely restrained chaos of "Losing Battle" and Axe To Fall's sanguine, beautiful, climatic seven-minute-plus dÉnouement, "Wretched Word," Axe To Fall isn't just another mere "release" or record from spoiled kids discovering metal and crying about how difficult life is in the suburbs. Axe To Fall is a nearly two-decade culmination of hard roads travelled and unwanted, but necessary, lessons learned, of prayers for salvation lost to the wind and too-fleeting nights where everything was still, if only for a moment, consumed by morning's inevitable advance, of crushing defeats and the realization that the war only ends when we do, and it's not one we can win, merely endure. Once again recorded by Converge's resident engineering genius Kurt Ballou, whose God City Recording Studios has become the Mecca for aggressive music's elite to congregate at for assistance realizing their sonic sermons (from Trap Them and Genghis Tron to Torche and Buried Inside), Axe To Fall is as sonically dense a tapestry and punishing a release as Converge have ever conceived, once again perfectly echoing musically Bannon's heart-ripped-out-of-chest-but-still-beating lyrics. It's the summation of experiences learned working on records such as No Heroes and You Fail Me, also recorded by Ballou at God City, and it surpasses them.

But even while Converge and Axe To Fall stand alone - as Bannon is so fond of saying live: "we're born into this world alone, and we die alone, so make your mark while you're here" - they've never forgotten the core values of the hardcore scene they were raised in, and raised others on: community. Axe To Fall is Converge's most collaborative effort to date, even while paradoxically sounding as focused as ever. Axe To Fall features the likes of John Pettibone (Undertow, Himsa), Ulf Cederlund (Entombed, Disfear), Cave In's Steve Brodsky, Adam McGrath and J.R. Connors, F. Sean Martin (Hatebreed), George Hirsch (Blacklisted) and Genghis Tron's Mookie Singerman, Hamilton Jordan and Michael Sochynsky, amongst others, contributing to its dense sonic soundscapes. Even Steve Von Till (of legendary star destroyers Neurosis) graces the record on "Cruel Bloom," an ignoring of musical confines that sounds akin to something Tom Waits and Mr. Bungle might concoct if trapped in a watering hole on the fringes of Purgatory right before the end-time hit.

Logan's Run (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Jerry Goldsmith's brilliant, witty, often very touching score for this 1976 big-budget science-fiction thriller was easily the best part of the movie. It's the first time this music -- a mix of hauntingly lyrical orchestral passages and electronic tonalities -- has been properly treated.

    - Bruce Eder (All Music Guide)

Logan's Run is a 1976 American science fiction film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett, and Peter Ustinov. The screenplay by David Zelag Goodman was based on the novel of the same name by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. It depicts a dystopian future society in which population and the consumption of resources are managed and maintained in equilibrium by the simple expedient of killing everyone who reaches the age of thirty, preventing overpopulation. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a Sandman, as he runs from society's lethal demand.

Ranked 99/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Sly And The Family Stone There's A Riot Goin' On 180 gram 45RPM 2LP from ORG Music

Inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999 & Ranked #99 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time!

More than four decades after they first stormed the Pop and R&B charts in the winter of 1968 with "Dance To the Music" - a groundbreaking jam that has the distinction of being chosen for the Grammy Hall Of Fame, the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's 500 Songs That Shaped Rock, and Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time - the music of Sly and the Family Stone is more vital than ever.

The band's catalog (every single composition penned by Sylvester Stewart aka Sly Stone) includes their three career-defining RIAA gold Billboard #1 Pop/ #1 R&B smashes, "Everyday People," "Thank You (Falletinme Be Mice Elf Again)" and "Family Affair," and their signature Top 40 hits that began with "Dance To the Music" and went on to include "Stand!," "Hot Fun In the Summertime," "Runnin' Away," "If You Want Me To Stay," "Time For Livin', and more.

Those songs not only inspired an era of youthful rebellion and independence, but also had a potent effect on the course of modern music in general. A dazzling fusion of psychedelic rock, soul, gospel, jazz, and Latin flavors, Sly's music brought the next step - funk - to a disparate populace of hip artists. From Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock, to the halls of Motown and George Clinton's P-Funk, from Michael Jackson and Curtis Mayfield, down the line to Bob Marley, the Isley Brothers, Prince, Public Enemy, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Arrested Development, the Black Eyed Peas, the Roots, OutKast and on and on, Sly's DNA is traceable to every cell of the musical stratosphere.

Since it took almost two years to make, the fifth album by bonafide superstars Sly and the Family Stone had everyone salivating in anticipation. Needless to say, Sly did not disappoint! 1971's There's A Riot Goin' On finds the Bay Area-based genius getting funkier than ever before, even as his artistic vision becomes progressively darker. Some may have been disappointed that Sly didn't simply re-create the chart successes of earlier singles, but who can argue with the flat-out brilliance of turning recent big hit Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) on its head to create the mind-boggling Thank You For Talkin' To Me Africa.

Two of this hypnotic album's best tunes Family Affair and Runnin' Away were gigantic chart hits, and There's A Riot Goin' On hit #1 Pop/ #1 R&B within a few weeks of its release in November, proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that Sly Stone could totally deliver the goods! A transformative masterpiece, There's A Riot Goin' On was inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame in 1999, and is ranked #99 on Rolling Stone magazine's '500 Greatest Albums Of All Time.'

Beyond The Blue Horizon: George Benson (Speakers Corner)

George Benson was the pupil, Wes Montgomery his teacher! And the sound of the great maestro, who played without the use of a plectrum, is quite unmistakable in this recording produced by CTI Records with George Benson in 1971. Producer Creed Taylor showed good judgement when he teamed Benson up with a small yet supremely talented group of musicians: Jack De Johnette on the drums takes Ron Carter's bass and Clarence Palmer's organ on a superb ride. Carter and Benson had met one another briefly during a Miles Davis recording session, but there the drummer was Tony Williams. Here, with Jack DeJohnette participating, the numbers on this LP gain real soul. But the lyrical side doesn't come too short either: Ode To A Kudu demonstrates this particular attribute of Benson's to perfection. And Somewhere To The East proves that he isn't afraid to experiment. All in all, this is a top album from George Benson's long and commercially successful career.

    Musicians:

    • George Benson (guitar)

    • Clarence Palmer (organ)

    • Ron Carter (bass)

    • Jack DeJohnette (drums)

    • Michael Cameron, Albert Nicholson (percussion)

Recording: February 1971 at Van Gelder Studios, Englewood Cliffs, NJ (USA), by Rudy Van Gelder

    Production: Creed Taylor

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

From the streets of Inglewood CA come letlive. Their self-produced and released debut Fake History was picked up by Epitaph in 2011,and quickly established the band as a force to be reckoned with, inheritors of that uncategorizable blend that made bands like the Deftones, Mars Volta and Rage Against the Machine so crucial.

Such was the rapt reception for the album that by end of year frontman Jason Aalon Butler was being named the #1 rock star in the world by Kerrang (yes, #1,that's not a typo). Mixing hardcore punk, metalcore, and even jazz and R&B influences in their sound (Jason's dad was a well-known LA bandleader who pioneered rock/soul crossover with Eric Burdon), letlive.'s melting pot of influences reflects the melting-pot Los Angeles neighborhood in which the band came together.

Now with their proper debut on the label, The Blackest Beautiful, the band comes fully prepared with a mammoth sonic attack, produced by longtime co-conspirator Kit Walters and mixed by pop guru
Stephen George (Britney Spears, Michael Jackson).

Opening salvo "Banshee (Ghost Frame)" announces a band that has remained loyal to their hardcore origins, while tracks like "Younger" and "Pheromone

    Composer of Desafinado, Plays

Antonio Carlos Jobim, Brazilian composer of such popular songs at Desafinado and The Girl From Ipanema, derived his unmistakable songwriting style from a very personal sense of melody and harmony, the magnificent songwriting traditions of Brazil, the rhythm of the samba, and American jazz. The Composer of Desafinado, Plays was the LP Jobim created when the bossa nova wave hit the US. It showcases his own piano with string accompaniment (with results far different from the bossa nova efforts of Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, et al). Remastered, Jobim's greatest songs are now in their best sound.

This record offers instrumental interpretations of some of Jobim's most famous compositions from the salad days of the early '60s Bossa Nova craze. It's also one of the earliest examples of Jobim's long-standing and fruitful collaboration with arranger Claus Ogerman. Trademarks like Jobim's single-note piano style, the accompanying flute melodies and Ogerman's arranging techniques (unison string parts, the bass clarinet underpinnings in How Insensitive) would decorate Jobim's music for the next two decades. Similarly representative are the authentic Bossa Nova guitar and drums, subtle variations of which occur on each tune. Throughout the recording, Jobim's songs are powerful enough for the melodies to stand up even sans lyrics.

Personnel includes: Antonio Carlos Jobim (piano, guitar); Claus Ogerman (arranger); Jimmy Cleveland (trombone); Leo Wright (flute); George Duvivier (bass).

    Producer: Creed Taylor.

Mastered By The Legendary Engineer Bernie Grundman

Resonance Records, in partnership with the National Audiovisual Institute (INA) of France, is pleased to announce the release of Larry Young In Paris/The ORTF Recordings. Presenting groundbreaking performances by jazz organist and pianist, Larry Young, these studio and live recordings from 1964 and 1965 made for French Radio and never before issued on record will be released in a limited edition 2-LP set.

Producer Zev Feldman notes, It's particularly exciting because none of this music has ever been heard before except on its initial broadcast in France five decades ago. I think that's something to celebrate and a call for us all - as we often do with the archival recordings we at Resonance Records uncover - to revisit and discuss this legendary artist's legacy.

Musicians featured on these recordings include trumpet legend Woody Shaw, tenor saxophonist and bandleader Nathan Davis and drummer Billy Brooks. An international cast of supporting players: French pianist Jack DiÉval tenor saxophonist Jean-Claude Fohrenbach and bassist Jacques B. Hess; Italian drummer Franco Manzecchi, Jamaican trumpet player Sonny Grey and Guadaloupean percussionist Jacky Bamboo round out the personnel. This album marks the first new release of Larry Young music in thirty-eight years.

This project came about in 2012 when Resonance Records producer Zev Feldman traveled to France to explore the ORTF (Office of French Radio and Television) archives (the media vaults overseen by the French National Audiovisual Institute (INA) in the hope of finding undiscovered treasures, which he suspected he might find there. Feldman asked INA executives about specific artists and was stunned to learn that the vaults contained recordings documenting some of the greatest American jazz musicians who lived in - or visited - Paris in the 1960's, including Larry Young. Resonance Records presents in this album tapes that had been sitting idly in the vaults for nearly 50 years, scrupulously maintained by INA. Resonance will also be releasing other future projects from the INA vaults. More details to come soon. Producer Feldman states, It's been a thrill of the lifetime working with Christiane Lemire, Laure Audinot and Pascal Rozat at INA France to find this great music and shepherd this release. No question about it, this project represents jazz through diplomacy and the greater good of a mission. These recordings showcase American artists who found their home and voice in Europe at a time when the American landscape wasn't always as supportive. Feldman continues, When we started to explore the vaults of ORTF and search for recordings to release, we had a wish list of various artists we were on the hunt for, but Larry was the one artist whom I personally felt we needed to look extra hard for. I couldn't be more thrilled with what we found and which we are now releasing. I hope we'll all revisit this genius's legacy and appreciate why he mattered so much.

While in France, Larry Young recorded at the ORTF Studios in Paris (now Maison de Radio France) as a sideman with the Nathan Davis Quartet, the Jazz aux Champs-ÉlysÉes All-Stars and with his own piano trio which included bassist Jacques B. Hess drummer and Franco Manzecchi. Larry Young In Paris/The ORTF Recordings includes selections from the original tapes, which were recorded specifically to be broadcast on French Radio. As noted, the only time these recordings have been shared with the public were on their original broadcasts on two iconic monthly French radio programs: Musique aux Champs-ÉlysÉes, hosted by French musician and producer Jack DiÉval; and Jazz sur scène, hosted by producer and jazz scholar AndrÉ Francis. Shortly after these recordings were made, Larry Young returned to New York to record the classic album Unity, his second album for Blue Note.

Larry Young died at the tragically young age of 38 in 1978. Larry Young In Paris: The ORTF Recordings is a tribute to his memory and endorsed by the estate of Larry Young. Produced by Zev Feldman with Executive Producers George Klabin and Michael Cuscuna. Sound Restoration by Fran Gala and George Klabin. Mastering by Fran Gala at Resonance Records Studios.

    Confess

Twin Shadow, the creative moniker of George Lewis Jr., presents his second album, Confess. Self-produced and with mixing duties handled by Michael H. Brauer (Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney), the 10-song set finds Lewis Jr. doing what he does best; remembering and reinventing, and fashioning a soundtrack which sounds refreshingly and distinctly modern. The first track to be taken from Confess is the anthemic Five Seconds.

Confess is the follow up to Twin Shadow's 2010 debut breakout album Forget of which Pitchfork, giving the album an 8.4 'Best New Music' review stated, "The songs may be catchy, but their intricacy and thoughtful storytelling makes them stick. And for its impressive sonic sheen, the album's skillful restraint makes it sound better with every spin."

Over the course of the past two years George Lewis Jr, has toured the US and the world virtually non-stop, amassing fans everywhere. His live shows are one big dance party; Spin described them best calling them a freewheeling full-band boogie fest. The tracks grew exponentially at every turn. Canned kits became crushing drums, bass burbles became serious bumps, sound effects became walls of synth, and Lewis transformed into a dance-driven taskmaster." Twin Shadow will once again take the show on the road with much touring planned in 2012 and beyond.

and Nick Oliveri and Mark Lanegan on vocals. In
addition, some big names came in to perform:

in lead single "My God Is The Sun") there are a
number of gorgeous ballads - meditations on time
passing, the struggle to create art, and the nearness

The music lives up to the album's lyrical and
conceptual ambitions, with some of Homme's finest

Louis and George Johnson formed The Brothers Johnson under the auspices of Quincy Jones in 1975, releasing this second album in 1977. With Quincy at the helm as producer, the duo quickly broke wide open with its debut album.

The Brothers Johnson's second album Right on Time consists of some of the best proto-typical funk-soul grooves from the late 70s. The album is again produced by Quincy Jones and his contributions ensure the high quality of the instrumental arrangements and general glossiness of the audio production as in their debut album.

Several of the tracks are as good as anything Michael Jackson or Earth Wind and Fire would've produced around this time, particularly Runnin' For Your Lovin', Strawberry Letter 23 and Never Leave You Lonely. There are also two fantastic instrumentals, Q and Brother Man that are both irrepressibly funky, with Louis Johnson's tight bass providing the solid rhythmic foundation he is famous for. Fusion fans will be familiar with several of the backing musicians: Harvey Mason, Dave Grusin, and Lee Ritenour to name a few.

The single Strawberry Letter 23 gained a #5 spot in the US billboard charts and #1 on the US R&B billboard. The album received platinum.
