    In Evening Air

In Evening Air is the debut full length from Future Islands on Thrill Jockey. This follows up the limited 12 EP In The Fall (released on April 6th). In Evening Air marks the first full-length release from Future Islands since moving to Baltimore, and also their first full-length release as a focused three piece. However, there's no lack of spirit in this paring down. More so, there's a greater intensity and eye to detail than we have yet witnessed from the group. These changes are felt and heard. In Evening Air takes us and swirls us around those feelings of growing outside of one's city and one's self. It moves through gripping loss and the search for peace from a heavy head, with an ease and understanding where there was none.

    The Far Field

"This is the kind of band that makes you wish other bands tried
    harder." - Pitchfork

"An absolute and unqualified triumph" - Stereogum

    "Mournful, triumphant, heroic" - Complex

The Far Field refines and builds on the breakthroughs of the
Baltimore-based trio's 2014 album Singles, bursting with undeniable
hooks and disarmingly honest lyrics written by Samuel
    T. Herring (vocals, lyrics), William Cashion (bass, guitars) and
    Gerrit Whelmers (keyboards, programming).

After the success of Singles and the hundreds of Future Islands
shows played in that period, the band began writing new material
on the coast of North Carolina, and continued throughout
the year in Baltimore before road-testing these songs at a series
of secret shows under fake names. Later that year, they traveled
to Los Angeles to record with Grammy Award-winning producer
John Congleton at the legendary Sunset Sound, where everyone
from The Beach Boys to Prince have laid down masterpieces.
With string and horn arrangements by Patrick McMinn,
The Far Field is the first Future Islands record to feature live
drums by Michael Lowry, who joined the band prior to their sensational
performance of "Seasons (Waiting On You)" on
David Letterman's late night TV show. Blondie's Debbie Harry
also makes a guest appearance, in a duet with Herring on penultimate
    track "Shadows."

Across The Far Field's twelve chest-pounding love songs and
odes to the road, Future Islands brilliantly expresses the band's
central themes they've been exploring for the last decade: that
there is power in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way
to laugh and cry in the same breath - and be stronger for it.

    On The Water (Awaiting Repress)

Future Islands' romantic synth sound scales new heights with On the Water, the Baltimore trio's most ambitious and fully realized statement yet. Built around a song cycle exploring love, loss, and memory, their latest album finds the band continuing to deliver pounding rhythms, swelling melodies, and undeniable hooks - but finding new ways to probe inner space and tug at hearts. Convening in March 2011 in Elizabeth City, NC's historic, waterfront Andrew S. Sanders House, vocalist Samuel T. Herring, bassist William Cashion, and keyboardist Gerrit Welmers lived together in a space that served as both studio and sleeping quarters. The band used this tranquil retreat to refine their most reflective and mature batch of songs to date, adding new material in the process. What emerged is a lush yet visceral album about two parallel journeys--one physical and one psychological. On the Water's narrator offers enough detail that their story feels personal, yet open enough that any listener can inhabit each twist and emotional pang as their own. LP version includes full color artworked inner sleeve.

    IV

BADBADBADNOTGOOD is the talented young quartet of Matthew Tavares on keys, Chester Hansen on bass, Alex Sowinski on drums & Leland Whitty on saxophone. They formed and became inseparable friends at Humber College's Music Performance program in 2011 and have been on a critically acclaimed, rule bending musical journey ever since.

BBNG took the music world by storm with their 2014 LP, III, a brash yet refined record of angular jazz improvisations, lush ballads, kraut rock, & futuristic hip-hop tinged rhythms which led to a couple years of touring the world & collaborating with some of the best and brightest artists around the globe.

The boys are back with the new album IV, their most impressive and highly anticipated project yet. IV continues their forward thinking progression, sounding something like a jam session in space between Can, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, Weather Report, Arthur Russell & MF DOOM. With tracks like Time Moves Slow featuring haunting vocals from Sam Herring of Future Islands, the syncopated groove of Lavender, a collaboration with Montreal based producer Kaytranada, the rumbling fusion build of Confessions Pt. II featuring Colin Stetson on the bass sax, Love which is highlighted with smokey left field raps from Mick Jenkins & the epic chords of Speaking Gently, IV is an exploration in post-genre virtuosity.

    Quiet Day

Fort Lean released two early EPs, earning glowing reviews in The New York Times and shows with HAIM and
Future Islands. Now comes Quiet Day, the debut LP on Ooh La La Records. The album is a collision of moods and
tones, approachable and ambitious but delivered with a sideways subtlety. "Immensely charming" says Stereogum. And "a Brooklyn outfit on a roll" according to SPIN. This is versatile stuff, appropriate for a crowd at a party or for the introspective headphoner.

Thank You could only come from one city, at one moment in time. Like Pere Ubu's Cleveland and Joy Division's Manchester, post-industrial Baltimore serves as simultaneous playground, obstacle course, and muse to this show-stealing art-rock trio. The band's urgent collision of rhythm, melody, and noise has placed them at the creative center of today's Baltimore renaissance, sharing stages and tours with such acts as Beach House (Sub Pop), Lungfish (Dischord), Celebration (4AD), Dan Deacon (Carpark), Zomes (Holy Mountain), Jason Urick, and Future Islands (both Thrill Jockey).

Thank You's first full-length follows closely on the heels of 2009's sold-out 12 EP Pathetic Magic. A band that once limited its vocals to hums, grunts, and chants has entered the next phase, delivering a stellar collection of challenging rock-and-roll songs. But Golden Worry eschews easy, anthemic sing-alongs, instead dipping into the vocabularies of Krautrock, post-punk, no-wave, and noise to produce what is at once Thank You's most melodic and most aggressive record.

    Natural Motion

Other Colors is an exploratory pop group from Baltimore comprised of longtime collaborators William Ryerson and Daniel Whatley, with a rotating cast of characters.

A historic blizzard in Baltimore back in 2010 played prominently in the early history of the band. With the city shut down for almost two weeks, Ryerson took the opportunity to write a droney, catchy set of songs on a broken electric guitar, layering sounds overtop on an old four-track. The results, captured on a self-titled EP released a year later, set a course for the group's future pop ambitions: a skewed, lo-fi miniature of greater things to come.

Their proper debut album, Free Thoughts, was recorded in 2012 by Dan Frome (Big Ups, Expert Alterations). A more polished and recognizably rock affair, it features contributions from notable musicians including Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak) and Dave Jacober (Dope Body). Released on their own Genpop imprint in early 2013, the album incorporates introspective folk-rock moods and atmospheric production into a set of memorable songs. To follow up, they recorded a two-song seven-inch with Chester Endersby Gwazda (Future Islands, Dan Deacon) that more accurately captured the band's dreamy live sound.

The band is now preparing to release their second album Natural Motion, recorded and mixed throughout 2015 at Beat Babies by Chris Freeland (Lower Dens, Wye Oak). This new album draws stylistic inspiration from forgotten AM radio hits and the smoother side of krautrock, conjuring tender soft-rock vibes through the fractured lens of contemporary underground pop. Filled with imaginative arrangements and first-rate songcraft, Natural Motion is a major step forward for the group: a lush, fully realized sound experience with abundant melodic treasures waiting to be uncovered.

    O Shudder

Six years into Dutch Uncles' flourishing career, the idiosyncratic art-popologists return with new album O Shudder which sees them further distilling and refining their signature sound, marrying rock bombast with classical arrangements, acoustic instrumentation with smart synthetic pop.O Shudder is Dutch Uncles' most direct record to date, the sound of a wildly witty band well and truly finding their stride, whilst lyrically tackling the growing pains of being twentysomething in a generic Northern suburbia; according to hip swivelling front man Duncan Wallis, the album covers themes including "pregnancy, social media, terrorism, divorce, sexual dysfunction, job seeking, health scares, doubt, love".With O Shudder, Dutch Uncles continue their fascinating, wonky ascent which has seen them play enormodomes with emo punk rock behemoths and self confessed Dutch Uncles acolytes Paramore, supporting and being supported by like minded left-field pop adventurers Wild Beasts, Outfit, Field Music, and Everything Everything, have a burger named after them by one of Manchester's premiere eateries and prefigure Future Islands' dance moves meme in their video for 2013 single Flexxin. The album was recorded with long term collaborator Brendan Williams in three locations; at a studio in the heart of the Welsh valleys, above a Salford pub, 'The Kings Arms', (incidentally where C4 comedy Fresh Meat is filmed) and, for the acoustic instruments, in the natural reverb of Salford's Peel Hall. The band were meticulous in tweaking their synth sounds so they'd fit seamlessly with the harp, xylophone, marimba, string and woodwind sounds that populate the record. Sources of inspiration for the record included The Blue Nile, Kate Bush's third album, Never For Ever, Igor Stravinsky, Japan and lyrically John Cooper Clarke, Sparks, Ian Dury and Prefab Sprouts' album From Langley Park to Memphis. All set to o shudder and stun, and induce plenty of hip swivelling, Dutch Uncles have delivered on their youthful potential and, with O Shudder, solved their own particular Rubix's cube, bringing their unclassifiable pop music into clear and precise focus.

    Welcome Back To Milk

It's time for a revolution. Beth Jeans Houghton is dead. Du Blonde is born.
Welcome Back To Milk is the Newcastle-born singer-songwriter's second
album, but her debut as Du Blonde, and it's a complete reinvention: new name,
new look, new band, new attitude - and attitude is a key word.

Du Blonde is not a persona or a character, it's Beth Jeans Houghton ripping
it up and starting again. Gone is the baroque chamber pop of 2012's Yours
Truly, Cellophane Nose. Gone is the band she recorded that album with,
The Hooves Of Destiny. In place of all that are heavy riffs, loud drums, vocal
aggression and the sound of somebody finding their voice, whether screaming
the chorus of Chips To Go, singing soul-bearing ballad Four In The Morning
or cooing through wistful torch song After The Show.

Aside from a track made with Youth, Welcome Back To Milk is produced by
Jim Sclavunos, who knows plenty about capturing dark sounds as a member
of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds. An unmistakable presence on the album is that of
Future Islands frontman Samuel T Herring, whose soaring vocals appear on
    Mind Is On My Mind.

Where Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose threw everything at a song, Du Blonde
strips everything down to the bare essentials. Black Flag, which opens the
album, is bass, guitar, drums and a dose of rage. "I got really into hard rock
and American hardcore while I was living in LA after we finished touring," she
says. "I couldn't work out why I was having such trouble expressing myself with
the music I was writing, but after a while I realised the instrumentation didn't
lend itself to the anger I was feeling. I needed to release all of this pent up
aggression and I was trying to do it over layers of vocal harmonies and nicely
played instruments. It was never going to work."

"I was hiding behind my guitar for so long, it was easy to feel safe there. I
wanted to put myself in a position I wasn't comfortable with in order to grow
as a performer. I want no choice but to look people dead in the eyes and give
    them all I have."

    Who Me?

"In contrast to his shambolic band's [the Beets] crude punkish impressions, the man's solo material hews more acoustic and bare, showcasing his warm voice and knack for, yes, poetry, that feels beamed in from a halcyon era." - Spin

Over ten years ago, a teenage Juan Wauters came to New York from Uruguay. Quickly after his arrival to the Big Apple, he turned to music to take control of the loneliness that came with his new surroundings. However, his isolation didn't last long though and, in the Queen's neighborhood Jackson Heights, he formed The Beets with new friends, garnering a reputation that allowed him to record three albums and tour the United States extensively. As the band began to slow down in 2012, Juan had more to say and he kept
going on his own with his debut solo album, N.A.P. North American Poetry, released on Captured Tracks in 2014.

Who Me? is the next chapter in the ongoing story of Juan Wauters. Whereas his debut solo record was recorded casually over the course of one year, his new album was crafted in under two weeks at Future Apple Tree in Rock Island, Illinois. Inspired by both the arrangements of Uruguayan songwriter Jaime Roos and the production of American master Dr. Dre, this collection of songs presents his continued approach to existential questioning through pop music. Tracks like "She Might Get Shot" and "I Was Well," which may seem like wisdom addressed to the listener, are in fact part of Juan's reciprocal process of self-actualization through songwriting and performing. Bringing new sounds to his repertoire, "This Is I" and "Through That Red" add a spiritual tone with ethereal string arrangements. Juan's voice - which has risen to the forefront of his music since his first recordings with The Beets - intensifies with added nuance. This year Juan Wauters will continue to tour the world in support of his second solo record.

    Battle Born

From out of the wreckage of the American Civil War, the great state of Nevada came into being on October 31st, 1864. Its creation immediately helped to secure the re-election of Abraham Lincoln, the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment and, ultimately, the future of the union. Today, that proud but painful history is enshrined in the two words emblazoned on the upper left-hand corner of the state flag: Battle Born.

That phrase has always resonated with Brandon Flowers. It's what The Killers named their studio in Las Vegas, and when the band reconvened last May to start work on the follow-up to 2008's Day & Age, it became first a song title, then a thematic touchstone, and eventually the name of the album itself. But not all battles are blood and thunder: after a yearlong hiatus that saw three of the four Killers launch solo careers, they quickly discovered that timing and circumstance can be daunting adversaries in their own right.

Safe to say, Battle Born's title was well-earned. "It's the hardest thing I've ever done, no question," says Brandon. "It's the longest we've ever taken to make a record, and the longest I've ever spent on the lyrics. We thought we had enough songs, but then we realized that we didn't, and so we had to pound away and grind it out until we were certain that we were ready."

A small-town drama of epic-scale proportions, "Runaways" is everything you could wish for from a Killers comeback single; an unmistakably American expression of romance and optimism that heralds their return with cyclonic, Who-esque guitars and a chorus big enough to be bellowed from one end of the Mojave to the other.

One of the album's oldest songs, the bare bones were written in 2009 on the Day & Age tour, but, says Brandon, "We never knew what to do with it. Day & Age was us trying to be more of a pop group, but Runaways was rootsy and American, and it threw me for a curve. I knew it was a powerful song. But when it came time to make the album, there was an understanding the four of us had that we were gonna do what we're good at. The Killers write a specific kind of song, and we're not gonna shy away from it. So 'Runaways' became a kind of launching pad."

More songs followed: the title track, a musical 'brother' to its lead single; "Here With Me," the album's heartstring-tugging emotional gravity-centre; the stadia-quaking electro-rock of "Flesh & Bone." By the time the band had satisfactorily refined that body of songs, however, none of the producers on their shortlist could commit to making a whole album, necessitating a process whereby they recorded in fits and starts with a stellar roll-call of names that included Daniel Lanois, Steve Lillywhite, Damian Taylor, Stuart Price and Brendan O'Brien.

And therein lies Battle Born's real triumph. Recorded almost entirely at the studio that shares its name, it incorporates elements from each of the records that came before it; Hot Fuss' storytelling eye for detail; the yearning, mythic Americana of Sam's Town; the gratuitous hooks and pop nous of Day & Age; without sounding overtly like any one in particular. It's the sound of a band recognizing, and celebrating, their own identity. To borrow Brandon's maxim, Battle Born is The Killers "Doing what we do best."

    The Circle

It's an interesting question to ask: Is that a fair dose of motivation or is that a chip on your shoulder? Jon Bon Jovi posed that question to himself, and it's worth pondering. You might think that a man whose band has sold more than 120 million records and played before tens of millions of fans in the course of an illustrious 26-year career would be content to rest on his considerable laurels, at least for a while.

You might think that, but you'd be wrong, and the new Bon Jovi album, The Circle, provides irrefutable proof. As its title suggests, The Circle marks a powerful reassertion of Bon Jovi's commitment to the hard-hitting, uplifting rock & roll that has been the band's indelible signature since it began. The band share an abiding bond that informs and defines their music. It is a circle that remains unbroken.

The album title, Bon Jovi explains, has several meanings. Some may say that with this album we have come full circle. Others may see The Circle as never ending. I see it as very hard to get in to and even harder to get out of, the singer says with a laugh. Having had 5 studio records in this decade, there are songs on each record that represent the world around us. And while they don't always like what they see, they try hard not to see the cup as half empty. From the new single We Weren't Born To Follow to the powerful When We Were Beautiful, the songs are as uplifting and anthemic as anything Bon Jovi and Sambora have ever written.

Another reason for the anthemic sound of THE CIRCLE is the re-emergence of Richie Sambora. This is meant to be a stadium, turn-the-guitars-back-up record, and that's a testament to having Richie at my side, Jon says. I can't tell you how much that's meant. With me and Richie, one and one makes three.

That flame burns at the heart of The Circle. When We Were Beautiful shares its title with the superb Bon Jovi documentary by filmmaker Phil Griffin. Like the film, the song is atmospheric and haunting. It opens with a sense of crisis: The world is cracked/The sky is torn. Jon Bon Jovi hears the song as a true departure for the band. That's a unique song, he says, We've written hits, but this is something more, this is something different. I didn't want to sugarcoat things. Those lyrics are factual. As a country and as people, we hit a wall. But the idea is to try to get back to `when we were beautiful.'

The new studio album, The Circle, was produced by John Shanks, who also worked with the band on the two preceding Bon Jovi albums, Lost Highway (2007) and Have a Nice Day (2005). The album has an underlying positive theme that is apparent throughout the songs. Whether it's questioning your vitality in Fast Cars, or asking what the future holds in Work for the Working Man, the songs are about the prospect of people having to find new directions in their lives. In these trying times every word relays the truth.

So The Circle, then, like all of Bon Jovi's best music, stares down the troubles that afflict our lives, and offers a bracing vision for overcoming those obstacles. It's stirring, and it's an emotion that, strong as the album is, will find its most convincing expression on the concert stage. And this is why Bon Jovi have managed to play over 2600 concerts to over 34 million fans in over 50 countries. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I can't wait to go on the road again, Jon Bon Jovi exclaims.

    Soul Punk

Soul Punk is the debut solo album from Patrick Stump, lead singer/composer/guitarist for Chicago-based multi-platinum Island Records group Fall Out Boy. The 11-tracks on Soul Punk hit a variety of themes, including Stump's love for his hometown of Chicago in This City, a scathing treatise of Madoff-era materialism on Greed and a reminiscent musing on naive sexuality on Allie.

In deference to one of his primal influences, Prince, Stump left nothing to chance on his debut, playing all the instruments himself, including drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, piano, analog synths, drum kit, marching drums, percussion, trumpet, valve trombone, alto and tenor saxophones, mandolin, guitelele and manipulating various found sounds and ambient noises.

As the title Soul Punk suggests, the album straddles Stump's roots in R&B and punk. I wanted to do my thing and I wanted to do it my way. I wanted to set the tone for the future. Soul Punk is kind of like a calling card.

We rejoin the band as Murdoc the bass player is gathering musicians and collaborators to create the new album. The new Gorillaz empire is set on a strange floating island deep in the South Pacific at the furthest point from any land mass on the planet. Introducing Plastic Beach, an island made entirely of plastic, debris and the washed up remnants of humanity. Amongst the collection of historical remains and discarded rubble, Murdoc finds a book detailing the history of Man right up to the present day, except the last chapter The End of Days has been torn out, the future is missing. Time to get the band together, finish this album and have fun while the sun still shines. To complete the task, Murdoc has assembled some other musicians to join the band at Plastic Beach, these select people would join him on his floating Hellfire Club, as musicians, players and contributors in this wonky, damaged Plastic opera. Mos Def, Bobby Womack, The Horrors, Lou Reed, Little Dragon, rappers Kano and Bashy, Mark. E. Smith, Syrian orchestras, global musicians and more were subpoena-ed to collaborate on this visionary Gorillaz record.

    Deep Trip

Destruction Unit are an American band formed in the Sonoran desert of Arizona. Dug up from the sonic landfills of the cosmos, these radical desert dwellers have built a reputation for both mesmerizing and terrorizing crowds with their sheer
    power and intensity.

Formed by Ryan Rousseau, D. Unit was initially a synthheavy three piece whose other members were Jay Reatard and Alicja Trout (Lost Sounds); likewise Rousseau was also in the Reatards before Jay went solo. Born out of the nucleus of the Memphis Goner Records scene and transplanted into Tempe, AZ, Rousseau has grown the band in the last few years into a full sonic assault, which now includes three guitar players (himself, Nick Nappa & Jesco Aurelius), his brother Rusty Rousseau on bass, and a 19 year-old classically trained drummer, Andrew Flores. This line-up has released several cassettes on their own label Ascetic House, a small run lP, Void on Jolly Dream and most recently a limited edition 7 on Suicide Squeeze.

Deep Trip is their first proper studio album, produced by Ben Greenberg of The Men, Hubble, and Pygmy Shrews at Vacation Island in NY. It's the first long player which truly captures their burning spirits. Morphine boogie for the 21st century noise addict. A spiritual odyssey of sadomasochistic self-loathing with songs about love and freedom. Selling drugs to make music to sell drugs to; aggressive psychedelic sprawl at its finest. The future of Rock and Roll burning through three twin reverbs and a pound of grass.

    Shackles Gift

Zun Zun Egui formed in Bristol in late 2008 - Mauritian guitarist and singer Kushal Gaya met and started making music with Japanese keyboard player Yoshino Shigihara after they had both moved to the UK and a core group of musicians soon formed around them. A love for experimentation, free jazz, fusion, DIY culture, throwing parties and playing wild shows was the glue that bonded the outfit together. After an early clutch of raw and experimental EPs, they focused their song-writing talents and mastery of many styles to create a recognisable Zun Zun Egui sound which included tropicalia, punk funk, Afrobeat, Ethio jazz and no wave. All of these varied disciplines were marshalled to produce their first album "Katang" which was widely hailed as one of the most exciting debuts of 2011. Even for a band as exploratory and talented as ZZE though, the step up in terms of songwriting and inspiration since "Katang" is astounding and it is clear that Shackles' Gift looks like being one of the most unique and thrilling records that will be released in 2015.

Produced by Andrew Hung of Fuck Buttons, "Shackles' Gift" is the album that Zun Zun Egui have always threatened to deliver and we always believed they would. Opening with 'Rigid Man', it hits the listener with bone-shaking tropical funk. Future single 'African Tree' strolls past on a marching band rhythm, complete with an arena-sized chorus and Kyuss-heavy stoner rock guitars. 'Ruby' is like imperial period Depeche Mode discovering the delights of industrial dancehall reggae, while 'I Want You To Know' is an absolute funk/noise rock monster, sounding like Steve Albini recording Queens Of The Stone Age jamming on 'Kashmir'. 'Soul Scratch' is a very British take on a very Mauritian form of music called seggae, which combines the African island folk music known as sega with reggae, but imbuing it with an adrenalised urban uptightness. The album concludes with 'City Thunder' an elemental, dubbed out and dread take on post rock and disco.

Frontman Kushal says that first and foremost "Shackles' Gift" is a British rock record made by a British group but admits that the first sparks of its creation started flying when ZZE visited Mauritius in March 2013. The African island nation, which lies 700 miles east of Madagascar, deep in the Indian Ocean, invited the band to give a concert as part of their Independence Day celebrations. The island's dynamic history has led to a multi-lingual, multi-cultural modern nation which has influenced Zun Zun Egui in more ways than one. Not only has Mauritian music been one of the (many) primary ingredients of their sound and inspired Kushal's multi-lingual approach to singing (the island has 12 main languages) but the diversity of the country acts as a metaphor for the diversity of the group itself.

S/T II: The Cosmic Birth And Journey Of Shinju TNT (On Sale)

Finally, after over a month of unanswered emails and text messages, blown deadlines, and pleas to finish and turn in their new album, last week, a large brown cardboard box showed up at the Dead Oceans doorstep. It had SHINJU TNT scrawled across the bottom of the box in black magic marker, and the return address read only AK, Detroit.

Opening it revealed a sincere but poorly made diorama of futurist swirling spaces filled with toy astronauts and dinosaurs, four blown out song fragments on a TDK CDR in a zip-lock bag, three pictures, and a typewritten note from Akron/Family. A post-it on the bag declared the band refused to send the full album to anyone but the vinyl pressing plant, for fear of leaking and possible lost revenues.

From the note and a short video that arrived days later, Dead Oceans pieced together that the album was written in a cabin built into the side of Mount Meakan, an active volcano in Akan National Park, on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. It was recorded in an abandoned train station in Detroit with the blackest white dude we all know, Chris Koltay (Liars, Women, Deerhunter, Holy Fuck, No Age). Chris, on tour after finishing the record, commented: this album will transcend the internet.

Akron/Family spent the end of 2009 and half of 2010 exploring the future of sound through Bent Acid Punk Diamond fuzz and Underground Japanese noise cassettes, lower case micro tone poems and emotional Cagean field recordings, rebuilding electronic drums from the 70's and playing them with sticks they carved themselves. Upon miraculous resuscitation of the original AKAK hard drive, the album layers thousands of minute imperceptible samples of their first recordings with fuzzed-out representations of their present beings to induce pleasant emotional feeling states and many momentary transcendent inspirations.

    Grow Slow

There was once a young African princess who embarked on a huge journey in pursuit of her dreams. She arrived at a mystical island covered in clouds where she met a cunning wizard...Sounds like the beginning of some Disney fantasy but the truth is not so different. The Princess is Sena who came from Accra, Ghana to a festival in the centre of Budapest, Hungary and met a musical wizard by the name of DJ Vadim... that was in 2005. What happened that night was the meeting not only of like minded souls, but the beginning of a future journey into sound and space. First came recordings for Vadim for the Soundcatcher album Talk To Me (2007 BBE) which was much lauded by Gilles Peterson at the time... Which led to a long process of creating an album. Much happened in between. Each had many of their own adventures.Grammy Award shows, sell out arena shows for Sena's band in Hungary - Irie Mafia - plus the birth of her beautiful daughter Kekeli and the release of her second solo album Lots Of Trees on French Soulbeats Records; world wide shenanagins for DJ Vadim with his groups, One Self, The Electric and many solo projects...Perhaps a good analogy would be the perfect pasta. One needs both to cook it exactly, not too hard or too soft and also a complimentary sauce. It takes time, love, effort and good ingredients. What's the result, simple but delicious and what a perfect combination Sena & Vadim make also.Perhaps add some chile pepper to bring out the African funk mixed with London tricknology from the grimey east London hoods and that's what it sounds like. It's not just soul but has a peppery kick, a proud African roar with somewhat a Caribbean touch. Then again, that's the Dubcatcher Vadim bringing his bass and skank to the mix. This isn't rose tinted squeaky clean US R&B, this is a diamond in the ruff worldly spoken words, raps and emotions...Think Erykah Badu meets Damian Marley over the new upsetter hot steppa DJ Vadim...
