From The Ground Up'
From The Ground Up (Awaiting Repress)From The Ground Up is the debut studio recording from singer/songwriter John Fullbright. Working off the success of his debut live album, Live at the Blue Door, Fullbright has been gathering a strong fan base, one fan at a time through consistent touring throughout Texas and Oklahoma and a live show that continues to develop and strengthen each time he steps on stage.
Although still in his early '20s, Okemah, OK native Fullbright writes and sings like he's been around for years. Firmly rooted in a variety of American musical styles, John has crystallized his influences into a sturdy foundation of solid songwriting and astute musicianship. His early inspirations were the folk/country songs of Mickey Newbury and Townes Van Zandt, along with the philosophical bent of Woody Guthrie, who always admonished songwriters to write what you see.
His virtuosic abilities on both the piano and guitar, combined with timeless lyrics throughout From The Ground Up certainly sets Fullbright apart from his many contemporaries, both young and old. From the spiritually influenced Gawd Above (Lord God Almighty and Satan and St. Paul to the poignantly satirical Fat Man, John Fullbright is making his initial mark as a truly gifted writer, singer, player and performer, all before the age of 25. Live From Austin, TX (Dwight Yoakam)Twenty-something Dwight Yoakam was literally the new kid in country music when he stepped onto the Austin City Limits stage in October 1988. But even then, as he has ever since, he was doing things his own way. Dwight was born in a small Kentucky town and grew up listening to mountain and bluegrass music, and unlike most of the mainstream country-pop crooners of the eighties, he almost single-handedly revived the rockabilly / honky tonk / hillbilly sound that was one of the cornerstones of country music's formative years. Early on he discovered the fabled Bakersfield sound of the 60s and adopted it as his own, in the tradition of country legends Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. Buck, in fact, became his hero and friend. When Dwight was playing a fair in Bakersfield, he stopped by Buck's office and coaxed him into playing a few songs with him on stage that night. The result was a lasting friendship and their historic duet, Streets Of Bakersfield. Much like his heroes, Dwight has been true to his roots and breaking new ground for almost 20 years.

One From The Heart (On Sale)Numbered, Limited Edition
Tom Waits and Crystal Gale Create Magic Together on Waits' Most Accessible Outing
Small Combo Band Provides Jazzy and Bluesy Support
Stupendous Sonics: Music Largely Recorded Live on Studio Floor
One From the Heart ranks among the best soundtracks in history. Essential for any Tom Waits or Crystal Gayle devotee, it sets an example of what's not only possible, but should be expected and demanded, when two likeminded artists collaborate. Heartstrings are tugged, passions kindled and lost, sentiments exchanged, skeletons dragged out of closets, seasons changed, romantic truisms cited. And its wide-open sound is supreme, the result of most tracks being recorded live in the studio, free of after-effects and interference.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP presents the Academy Award-nominated One From the Heart in stunning sonic relief. You'll be able to gauge the signature tones of the guitars and hear inside the cavity of Waits' piano. Perhaps most importantly, Gayle and Waits' voices now sound just feet away, with your room converted into the world's coolest late-night lounge. Spatial cues, background accents, and studio dimensions emerge with striking realism.
Inspired by a track Waits cut with Bette Midler on his Foreign Affairs effort, One From the Heart overflows with simpatico chemistry, poignant contrast, elegant atmospherics, and awestruck intimacy. On their four vocal duets, Gayle and Waits inhabit the personas of a man and woman breaking apart yet sharing common bonds. Their singing plumbs emotional depths that traverse melancholy, sensuality, and understanding. Made before Waits' baritone turned into a deep, gravel-laden instrument, the songs are more smoke than whiskey, more piano-man empathy than hipster growler.
Written by Waits, the music occupies a common ground between laidback small-combo jazz, lounge pop, and downbeat blues. Classy string orchestrations abet a crack ensemble comprised of saxophonist Terry Edwards, drummer Shelly Manne, pianist Pete Jolly, bassist Greg Cohen, and others. The arrangements seamlessly melt into both vocalists' leads, allowing every note-every piano clink, acoustic bass ripple, brushed snare drum-to register with utmost magnitude.
Experienced on stunning soliloquy pieces such as Gayle's mournful ballad "Is There Any Way Out of This Dream?" and back-and-forth collaborative efforts like the breakup take "Picking Up After You," beautiful instrumentation, spacious production, and flawless vocal phrasing take hold. You can picture the broken dreams exiting out the side doors of the dim bars and abandoned houses that pepper the narratives. Renowned for his sad songs, Waits has never been in better form, the goodbye fare clicking with unflinching honesty and personality.

LighthouseLighthouse is an intimate, stripped-down set that highlights David Crosbys instantly recognizable voice, incisive songwriting, and incomparable guitar work. The palpable joy in the 9-song collection captures the iconic artist in an unexpected burst of inspiration.
For Lighthouse, Crosby received an able assist from Michael League, the bandleader/bassist for Snarky Puppy who executive produced and co-wrote much of the album with Crosby.
Lighthouse features a rare economy of sound, filled primarily by David Crosbys voice and guitars, and Michael Leagues bass. Theres a sparse, unvarnished quality to the tracks that allows the songs breathing room and for the full emotional weight of the lyrics to emerge, unencumbered by extraneous instrumentation.
On album opener, Things We Do For Love, written for his wife Jan, Davids vocals reflect a poetic tenderness. On Paint You A Picture, a cinematic tale of romantic regret co-written with Marc Cohn (Walking In Memphis), they are filled with remorseful resignation.
The longtime social activist lands his political punches as he bitingly condemns the craven politicians who send other peoples children to war on Somebody Other Than You, and compassionately reminds us that we are all the same on Look In Their Eyes, a poignant tale about the Syrian refugee crisis.
Particularly striking on Lighthouse is Davids piquant guitar playing, which is as inventive as always, but never flashy. By turns gentle and caustic, his work here surprised even him as he discovered new tones.1. Things We Do For Love

Wire (On Sale)Their 13th studio album - simply titled Wire, - comprises material that was written with the album in mind, but toured extensively first, as well as songs that Newman introduced to the group in the studio just prior to recording. The idea was to get the most spontaneous reaction possible from the musicians, and far from the rough and ready results one might expect from such a tack, Wire is full of swooning pop melo-dies with a 60s tinge and an irresistible, near motorik rhythmic momentum. One can recognise certain me-lodic inflections, guitar and bass motifs, and drum rhythms from Wire's idiosyncratic vocabulary but it has a remarkable freshness. The basic tracks were recorded at Rockfield Studios with overdubs added at Brighton Electric. The 11 tracks selected for release were the ones that came together most naturally. From the outset Wire was an alliance between four very different characters and continues today with the addition, in 2012, of It Hugs Back guitarist Matthew Simms, who is around thirty years younger than the other group members. "With Matt there was a really new dynamic that had appeared in the group's sound and that was something we wanted to capture, utilise and be creative with," says Lewis. Wire is the first album where Simms has been involved in formulating the material from the ground up, but when the group's particular chemistry starts working he is now very much part of the process.1. Prominence"Prominence" is the 2nd full length in as many years from Texas transplant John Pena. It was recorded/mixed in the same apartment(after a failed attempt to mix in a "real" studio) as last years talent over the first few months of 2013 after shelving a full length's worth of songs for not being sonically or emotionally interesting enough.
Using Primitive Radio God's "Standing Outside A Broken Telephone Booth With Money In My Hand" as a sonic touch point John built a new album from the ground up utilizing chopped/sampled drum breaks and, for the first time, some non laptop based keyed instruments(piano, mellotron) along with h.B. Main stays classical guitar and steel drums.
Live member Christian Barsi and Daniel Schlett of Strange Weather Studio both contributed keys to a few songs but the outcome is still a very solo sounding project.
Arrangements is where Prominence shines. Managing to sound inventive and not quite like anything else with such a limited palette is a rare and commendable feat. From the
Slide guitar and pulsing nylon string samples of "Honest" to the flamingo call and deep kick combo of the 2nd half of "Complete" Heavenly Beat keeps the whole affair sounding fresh, interesting and natural.
Lyrically, Prominence is not an escapist affair. It's a very direct look into someone dealing with poor body image(Thin), infidelity(Honest) and emotional/physical/sexual recklessness(Prominence). It's not asking or answering any questions. Just existing within itself, fully a where of it's shortcomings.1. Lengths

Case/Lang/Veirscase/lang/veirs, a true collaboration between three phenomenal, self-driven artists: avant-rock icon Neko Case, legendary musical nomad k.d. lang, and indie folk star Laura Veirs. The women wrote all 14 songs and shared lead vocals equally, sometimes even within the same track. Full of stunning harmonies and spellbinding rhythms, case/lang/veirs travels through aches and eras, torch songs and tributes to the undersung.
They worked over two and a half years in Portland, Oregon, where lang and Veirs both live, sometimes in lang's loft with a view of Mount St. Helens, others in Veirs' dining room or backyard studio. The album was written from the ground up without any real plan beyond a desire to make music together and a faith that it would reveal itself. They produced the album with Tucker Martine, at his Portland studio in November 2015.
"The combination of spirits, the combination of artistry, is very unique, because we have definite similarities, but we are very, very different, and it creates a really interesting thing," says lang. Elvis Costello's follow-up to his debut release is now on 180 gram vinyl re-mastered from the original master tapes. This was Elvis's first album with The Attractions and includes the songs "Pump It Up," "I Don't Want To Go To (Chelsea)" and "Radio, Radio."
Stylistically versatile, deeply varied, and melodically catchy, this where Costello came into his ownand where the chemistry between virtuosic keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas, and drummer Pete Thomas produced one of rocks best groups. A dynamic maelstrom of emotional spite, bitter frustration, sexual angst, and caustic political commentary, the 1978 set boosted Costellos star and yielded innumerable standards: the undying MOR protest Radio Radio, fervent Pump It Up, smart (I Dont Want to Go to) Chelsea, and spunky No Action are all here. While often cited as Costellos angry record,
This Years Model has more to do with disappointments and denials. The album bursts forth with a savage energy not possible without the Attractions, which are responsible for the songs being built from the ground up. Where Costellos voice and twangy guitar dominate My Aim Is True, here, sizzling rhythms and Nieves colorful organ runs anchor the foundations. This is a group effort, with Costellos biting lyrics taking chances and forcing the listener to mull double meanings all the while the music zooms by at a fast clip.1. No Action

Light DivideJon Porras creates drone music with a refined sense of atmosphere and remarkable forward motion. Regardless of the tools he uses, be it guitars and stacks of amplifiers or modular synthesizers, Porras creates cavernous sound-worlds that are as inviting as they are alien. Light Divide, his second solo release for Thrill Jockey, shows Porras shifting his focus entirely to electronic synthesis, using a wide array of analog and digital systems to exponentially expand his sonic palate. The resulting sounds are silhouettes of distant rhythms, abstracted traces of techno wastelands that come in and out of focus like an urban, post-industrial sprawl being overtaken by fog. Porras constructed and arranged the tracks on Light Divide as an architect would design a building, thinking of the sub-bass as a foundation, percussion as walls and support beams, and white noise and oblique melodies as the light filling the open spaces. Rather than writing passages or song structures, he focused on designing sounds from the ground up, building gestural movements with these sculpted slabs. Through this technique, patterns and musical phrases emerge in subtle and surprising ways. This theme of architecture and design is reflected in the album cover, which was taken at Maison La Roche, a villa designed and built by Le Corbusier. Light Divide reveals Porras as a restless explorer, constantly finding new means by which to create expansive, impressionistic music. It demands close listening, and stands apart in Porras' solo and Barn Owl discography for its intense attention to detail.1. Apeiron

AbandonedBoston's most devoted and steadfast hardcore band, Defeater knows what it takes to remain credible in a scene where fans demand both unapologetic, in-your-face power and intense emotional honesty. For Defeater and their die-hard fans, this honesty is key, and with their Epitaph debut Abandoned, Derek Archambault (vocals) and fellow band members have created their masterpiece. Carrying on the narrative thread they have built across four previous albums, Abandoned is the band's most powerful and uncompromising album to date, powered by a renewed sense of artistic ambition and a plot twist no one could have expected. Defeater has never sounded more bleak and intense. The seething black-hole hardcore songs that served as finales "Cowardice" and "Bled Out" on Travels and Letters Home just barely touch the full-throated primal desperation on display in the first track here, and the momentary respite halfway through on "Borrowed And Blue" only makes the utter collapse that follows more punishing. This is the first album where the entire band was involved from the ground up, says Archambault, and that let Defeater push itself to a new level of discipline and depth.1. Contrition

In The Magic HourAoife (pronounced EEE-fah) O'Donovan's debut solo album, Fossils, was released to critical acclaim and ended up on many "Best of 2013" lists from outlets like NPR Music, American Songwriter, New York Magazine and No Depression, among others. Aoife appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, NPR's Weekend Edition, SiriusXM The Coffee House and The Village. President Obama even exposed himself as a fan by including the track "Red and White and Blue and Gold" on his first official Spotify playlist in the summer of 2015. Since it's release, Fossils has sold more than 22,000 copies worldwide, and Aoife is poised to break through with her new album, In The Magic Hour. The songwriting process for In The Magic Hour coincided with the death of Aoife's grandfather, at age 93. She remembers him as a "gentle soul" in the small Irish village of Clonakilty where he lived. The lyrics on In the Magic Hour are infused with a sense of loss and mortality's dark certainty.
But the album is just as much an ode to Aoife's joyful childhood visits to Ireland. Aunts, uncles, grandparents and flocks of cousins would gather at the Clonakilty seaside to swim in the chilly ocean and sing together in the lingering Irish summer twilight. Aoife had not yet performed many of the songs live before arranging and recording them over the course of three sessions in Tucker Martine's (The Decemberists, Neko Case), studio in Portland, OR. "The whole recording process was really Tucker [Martine] and me taking these songs and building them from the ground up," Aoife says. The result is deliberate but not over-done, the freshness of the material intact. While In The Magic Hour rekindles the creative partnership with Grammy-nominated producer Martine, the album also highlights the fruits of Aoife's various career collaborations. Composer Gabriel Kahane, New York's string quartet Brooklyn Rider and musician Chris Thile all lend musical and vocal support, as well as I'm With Her band members Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz, plus many more.1. Wild Beasts' Present Tense is a dramatically new album. Gleaming and sparkling with 1980s and
1990s electronic sound rethought and retooled with exquisite detail for the 21st century. It doesn't
sound like any boys-with-guitars band you've ever heard. And despite the coherence of its sweeping
song structures, it wasn't written so much as constructed from the ground up from tiny phrases and
fragments, then it was layered together in the studio by Wild Beasts with co-producers Lexxx
and Brian Eno protege Leo Abrahams. "We spent ages programming and piecing individual parts
together," says the band's drummer Chris Talbot, "it was built on computers rather than played first, and
we had the feeling that anyone in the band could do anything without feeling they had one role to stick
to." Even using this cut and paste recording style the band somehow retains all of the coherence that
can only come from years playing together in basements and on stages. Wild Beasts have created their
own world which the listener has no choice but to enter and immerse themselves in.
Wild Beasts are more of a band than most bands. They've spent their career thus far deconstructing
exactly what it is to be a band, trying to escape the constraints of what is expected from four lads
playing together - and more so than ever on the deliberately synthetic, instrument-swapping Present
Tense. But here they are, four albums down and more than eight years since they first played together
in this lineup, still feeling like a gang, still feeling like a band as it is supposed to be, with a single clear
vision and sound. Just a few minutes in a room together with them, seeing how their four distinct
personalities play off one another, and it's obvious.

SongsI just wanted to write really good songs, and with that outlook, everything else is a perk. -John Fullbright
That plainspoken approach is part of what's fueled the young Oklahoman's
remarkable rise. It was just two years ago that Fullbright released his debut studio
album, From The Ground Up, to a swarm of critical acclaim from such notable
sources as LA Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR-to say nothing of his GRAMMY
Nomination for Best Americana Album.
But for Fullbright, it hasn't been all the acclaim that means the most to him, but
rather his entrance into a community of songwriters whose work he admires.
When I started out, I was all by myself in a little town in Oklahoma where whatever
you wanted, you just made it yourself, he explains. One of the most fulfilling
things about the last two years is that now I'm surrounded by like-minded people
in a community of peers.
The arrangements on Songs are stripped down to their cores and free of ornamentation. Fullbright's guitar and piano anchor the
record, while a minimalist rhythm section weaves in and out throughout the album. The performances are stark and direct,
though, a deliberate approach meant to deliver the songs in their purest and most honest form. Fullbright inhabits his songs' narrators completely, his old-soul voice fleshing out complex characters and subtle narratives with a gifted sense of understatement.
To be sure, Songs has its moments of darkness, tracks born from pain and heartbreak, but for a craftsman like Fullbright, there
are few greater joys than carving emotion into music, taking a stab at that lofty goal of immortality through song.1. Happy

The Bright MississippiThrough his work as producer, composer, arranger and consummate session man, New Orleans native Allen Toussaint has truly earned living-legend status. He has collaborated on landmark recordings for such artists as Ernie K. Doe, Lee Dorsey, Dr. John, the Meters, the Pointer Sisters and Labelle and released acclaimed albums of his own. The 70 year-old pianist, already a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, was the recipient, on the recent Grammy Awards telecast, of the Recording Academy's prestigious Trustee Award, honoring a lifetime in the studio, both behind the scenes and in front of the mic.
On The Bright Mississippi, his Nonesuch debut, Toussaint continues to break new ground with his first jazz-oriented set, displaying the same effortless swing and relaxed charm he brought to his classic rock and roll sides. He salutes Big Easy stars of a previous generation, the jazz greats who, in the early 20th century, built the genre from the ground up and turned the ears of the world to New Orleans. Backed by an all-star combo that sounds like a group of old friends, Toussaint reinterprets classic jazz and blues tunes popularized or written by such New Orleans greats as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton and Joe King Oliver, as well as pieces composed by fellow travelers Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk. He accedes the producers chair to trusted friend Joe Henry, who sat behind the board for Toussaint's contributions to Our New Orleans, Nonesuch Records best-selling 2005 benefit release aiding hurricane victims on the Gulf Coast. Henry also produced The River In Reverse, Toussaint's 2006 post-Katrina collaboration with Elvis Costello.
Henry assembled a decidedly non-traditional band of backing players for The Bright Mississippi, assuring a fresh take on such venerable tunes as West End Blues, St. James Infirmary, and Dear Old Southland. Joining Toussaint for four days of sessions at Manhattans Avatar Studio were guitarist Marc Ribot (Costello, Tom Waits), bassist David Piltch (k.d. lang), clarinetist Don Byron, trumpeter Nicholas Payton and drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant /Alison Krauss, Sam Phillips). Nonesuch label-mates Brad Mehldau (piano) and Joshua Redman (saxophone) stopped by for one tune each.It was wonderful, says Toussaint of these convivial sessions.
Everything is live, of course. This isn't the kind of assembly line music where somebody put the wheels on here and somebody put the top on there. Everything got done at the same time, so everybody fed on each other, their personality and tonality.LP 1

This Year's Model (On Sale)Ranked 98/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The first record he made with his legendary backing band the Attractions, This Years Model is Elvis Costellos most explosive and urgent album. Picking up where his fine My Aim Is True left off, the British singer/guitarist blasts through 13 excellent tracks with the fervent purpose and headlong pace of someone who has a cab waiting for him outside.
While often cited as Costellos angry record, This Years Model has more to do with disappointments and denials. The album bursts forth with a savage energy not possible without the Attractions, which are responsible for the songs being built from the ground up. Where Costellos voice and twangy guitar dominate My Aim Is True, here, sizzling rhythms and Nieves colorful organ runs anchor the foundations. This is a group effort, with Costellos biting lyrics taking chances and forcing the listener to mull double meanings all the while the music zooms by at a fast clip.
More than 30 years after its original release, This Years Model will still leave you breathless. Railing against unachievable desires, Costello and company delight in the anguish, and spit such torment back out in the form of hook-ridden music that functions as a brilliant form of situational confirmation and emotional catharsis.
Half-speed mastered from the original tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180-gram LP brings This Years Models vicious songs to the forefront like never before. Punchier, gutsier, and livelier than any of the myriad CD remasters, this analog edition offers a transparent window onto the Attractions' loose interplay, Nieve's carnivalesque organ work, and rabid pounce of the Thomas-Thomas rhythm section. Here, for the first time, are previously buried tones, textures, and details. It took years to happen, but this is how This Years Model was always supposed to sound.

It was never William E. Low's intention to create a "signature series" of cables, so it can be said that the WEL Signature series is something which evolved. As anyone who has ever birthed something from the ground up knows, things have the tendency to take on lives of their own. Inspiration becomes the compass that sets the direction we follow. WEL Signature speaker cable is a 30+ year culmination of AudioQuest's best materials and techniques, combined with the sensitivity and refinement that only comes when those who love music and appreciate the objectivity of uncolored, undistorted sound.
SOLID 100% PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER (PSS) CONDUCTORS: WEL Signature uses extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver conductors. All conductors are solid, which prevents strand interaction, a major source of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. The astonishingly smooth and pure Perfect-Surface eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers. The superior purity of PSS further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metal conductor.
CARBON-BASED MULTI-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION and CROSS-TALK-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (INSULATION): The negative conductors in WEL Signature are insulated with partially conductive Carbon-Loaded Polyethylene. This remarkable material damps radio-frequency garbage from being fed back into the amplifier. The sonic benefit is exactly the same reduction in "hash" and better dimensionality that comes whenever RF garbage is reduced in an audio circuit. WEL Signature uses Nitrogen-Injected Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on its positive conductors because air absorbs next to no energy, and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.
DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.
DOUBLE COUNTER-SPIRAL GEOMETRY: WEL Signature and the other AQ "Tree Feature" cables have an inner circular array of positive conductors spiraling in one direction. Around this inner group are the negative conductors spiraling in the opposite direction. Even while the positive and negative conductors are crossing each other instead of being parallel, the relationship between the positive and negative groups is fixed and non-changing, adhering to one of AudioQuest's most basic design tenets: consistency. The result is an astonishing clarity, like focusing a camera lens you had no idea was so far out of focus.
SPREAD-SPECTRUM TECHNOLOGY (SST): Any single size or shape of conductor has a specific distortion profile. Even though radially symmetrical conductors (solid round or tubular) have the fewest discontinuities, any conductor of a particular size does have a sonic signature. SST uses a precise combination of different size conductors in order to significantly reduce the audibility of these character flaws. The different SST-determined conductor sizes used in WEL Signature allow an exceptionally clear, clean and dynamic sound.
