Friday Night In San Francisco (Awaiting Repress)1981 album by Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia recorded at The Warfield Theatre on December 5, 1980, in San Francisco. All tracks are live except for the last track, Guardian Angel, which is the opening theme from a song that appears on McLaughlin's 1978 Electric Dreams album.
Ah the Mediterranean... Filled with fine foods, wines, beautiful people, and the inspirational style of music that descended upon the able fingers of these guitar giants. This is by far one of the hottest guitar albums ever to bless sweet vinyl. Al Dimeola, John McLaughlin, & Paco Delucia play classical guitars (the kind with the nylon strings) in a flamenco / jazz style that will blow your socks off!
Recorded live in concert in San Francisco this album has spectacular sonics and musicianship to boot!

Friday NightIncludes Seven Tracks Not Previously Available
Friday Night is a live album of performances from Will Butler's tour
supporting his first album Policy. It was recorded mostly at Lincoln Hall in
Chicago on June 4, 2015. Five of the songs are from Policy, two are songs
written for the Guardian newspaper last year, and five are new.
This record exists partly because I had a really good band, and I wanted to
document it. Miles Arntzen (EMEFE, Antibalas) played drums (standing
up at a full kit-he didn't use a hi-hat pedal, so he could stand on that leg
while working the kick drum with the other). Julie Shore played synth bass.
Sara Dobbs played synth leads and Mellotron pads. Everybody sang backing
We started almost every show with "You Must Be Kidding." I thought the
album should start in medias res to welcome the listener into a sweaty room
with a tired, happy band and a loose crowd. So the album starts with the
encore "Tell Me We're All Right" which was only ever played once, and this is
the recording of it. We never soundchecked it. It wasn't even written yet (you
might be able to tell). But Miles plays some magical fills, Sara and Julie jump
in with good harmonies, and the crowd even begins a spontaneous call-and response
at the end ("You're all right!").
This record also exists because I wrote a lot of new songs and the band
got good at playing them, and I wanted to put them out to the wider world.
Sometimes an artist will take a new song into the studio and polish it until
there's nothing left. I wanted these songs to avoid that fate.
Think of this as a comedy record. In some ways literally-Brooklyn comedian
Jo Firestone does the introduction and the "solo" in "Friday Night"-but
also, it's an album based on working out ideas in a room full of people, playing
off their energy and expectations. It's about taking complicated emotions
and wringing communal joy from them, and then translating that joy onto
record. So here you go!

First Time Gatefold Cover With Super Rare 1966 Images From The Sony Music Archives
Paul Revere & The Raiders featuring Mark Lindsay were truly one of the greatest exponents of the sixties pop and rock music scene. When they debuted with their very first Columbia Records hit single Louie, Louie in 1963 (FRM-10414), there would be no turning back for this amazing band. For the next decade and a half, The Raiders released a plethora of albums and well over three dozen 45's making their catalog as prolific and rocking as you could get.
Often considered one of the best albums of the garage band rock era, Just Like Us features some of The Raiders' biggest hit singles, with their equally important Lp tracks. The hard rockin' classic includes top smash hits Just Like Me, Steppin' Out, plus stellar champions like their terrific interpretations of The Animals' I'm Crying, The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction, and Mark Lindsay's wailing sax work on the James Brown hit Night Train.
Friday Music is no stranger to the music of the legendary Paul Revere & The Raiders featuring Mark Lindsay. That is why we are so very proud to announce another fine installment in their Friday Music Series with the first time audiophile stereophonic vinyl release of Just Like Us.

In Person At The Blackhawk: Friday and SaturdayMiles Davis' two night stand at The Blackhawk in San Francisco marked a watershed in jazz history, a seminal event transforming the American musical landscape.
Davis had never been recorded live in a club with his combo and the performances over the course of two sets a night on April 21 and 22, 1961 more than justify the legend.
The New York Times, in its review of the Columbia Records release of the complete Blackhawk shows, called the music the gold standard for straight-ahead, postwar jazz rhythm.

They Only Come Out At NightMastered from the Original Epic Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray
Edgar Winter, the multi-talented superstar brother of blues rock legend Johnny Winter, has been a fixture on the rock music scene now for several decades. While launching his own successful career with his solo albums and Edgar Winters White Trash, the natural progression for this man was to develop his own supergroup which would become the platinum and gold selling The Edgar Winter Group.
Releasing their first album in 1973, They Only Come Out At Night was an overnight success, thanks to the mind altering studio jam Frankenstein which has since become one of classic rocks finest moments. This instrumental smash featured the stunning keyboard of Edgar Winter, the incredible guitar of resident shredder Ronnie Montrose, the thumping bass of the late great Dan Hartman and of course the solid percussive hits of Chuck Ruff.
The album went onto receive more attention from radio programmers across the globe as even further hit songs would rapidly develop including the blues rocker Undercover Man, the country rock feel of Round & Round and of course another top charter with the summer Top 40 Rock driving sounds of Dan Hartmans Free Ride. The Rick Derringer produced album would go on to stay on the charts for a long time and receive multiple platinum status in a very short time. Truly, one of classic rocks finest albums ever recorded!
Now for the first time ever on audiophile vinyl, Friday Music announces the first installment of their Edgar Winter 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his platinum plus album They Only Come Out At Night. This first time audiophile vinyl release is mastered from the original Epic Records tapes by Joe Reagoso (Johnny Winter/Alice Cooper/Boston) at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI.
For this special release, the limited edition album comes in the original gatefold album cover, which features the photography of Francesco Scavullo and Norman Seeff and artwork design of John Berg. All Of A Sudden I Miss EveryoneKnown for bringing an emotional heft and sense of hope to a usually placid genre, Explosions In The Sky have experienced the kind of meteoric rise in popularity that flies in the face of music industry convention. Their songs are too long for radio play or commercial music videos; they avoid performing in LiveNation/Clear Channel venues; they didn't jump to a major label; and they don't sing. After scoring the film Friday Night Lights, they took two years to work on this record, which is a massive leap forward, showcasing a broader instrumental range and their most focused, efficient songwriting. Prince AvalancheThe post-rock grandeur of Explosions in the Sky lends itself well to movies and television, so much so that the Texas foursome are pretty much synonymous with Friday Night Lights. The instrumental unit will further capitalize on their cinematic flair by releasing their original score to Prince Avalanche, the latest film from director David Gordon Green.
Explosions in the Sky teamed with composer/longtime Green collaborator David Wingo (also of Ola Podrida) to write the 15-track score, which will be issued through Temporary Residence Ltd.

Clear Heart Full EyesClear Heart Full Eyes is the Vagrant Records solo debut album from, Craig Finn, frontman for the critically acclaimed group The Hold Steady. In early 2011, Finn challenged himself to write a new song every day in his Brooklyn, NY apartment. I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative, says Finn. I wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people.
Finn traveled to Austin, Texas in July, removing himself from all familiar surroundings, to record the album with producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead). Of the album's title, Finn says, It's a juxtaposed reference to 'Friday Night Lights,' a TV show that excited and moved me and also happened in Texas. Further, Clear Heart signifies honesty and transparency, and Full Eyes suggests experience.1. Apollo Bay

Live At Old South ChurchOn Friday night, October 22nd, 2010, Caspian played a benefit concert in Boston, MA at The Old South Church. The performance was a benefit for Amirah, a non-profit organization located in Boston dedicated to providing whole-person care for victims of human sexual trafficking. On this evening in particular, the band was in that special place that special bands go when things come together perfectly during a performance. Keep in mind they were in a massive, Gothic Revival style church built in 1875 with natural reverb and an unparalleled organic wall of sound. The audio of this experience was captured, and while it's true that there's nothing like actually being there, this recreation is about as close as it gets. These first official live recordings of Caspian in this specific venue are truly indicative of the sheer power of their epic performances. Take Care, Take Care, Take CareIn the four years since the release of Explosions In The Sky's previous album, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, they've amassed a steady stream of unlikely achievements for a band most known for stirring instrumentals that often push the 10 minute mark. They toured with The Flaming Lips, headlined a sold-out Central Park concert, performed on the legendary Austin City Limits television program, and curated the world-renowned ATP Festival, all with the humble resolve of a band who still hauls all of their own gear on and off the stage every night. And let's not forget their indelible impact on the cultural landscape of film and television since their breakthrough score for Friday Night Lights marked an aesthetic shift towards evocative, real-life grittiness in mainstream cinema.
On their fifth album, Take Care, Take Care, Take Care, the band take some of their greatest creative leaps yet, experimenting with layers of haunting, unplaceable sounds, euphoric vocals, classical guitar, body percussion, Japanese singing bowls and more. With solitary focus and collaborative vision, each instrument clearly exudes the spirit and inspiration of its player, squeezing more expression and lyricism out of guitars and drums than most singers could ever conjure with their voices.1. ChromeTo truly understand the color and shape of Nice Nice, you must really see them live. Only then will you realize that every sound heard on this record, every intricate ployrhythmic layer is LIVE. There are no overdubs, and there are only two people in the band. But if you haven't been lucky enough to see them yet, then bear in mind those facts when throwing this one into your headphones. Born in Olympia, WA and now calling Portland, OR their home, guitarist Jason Buehler and percussionist Mark Shirazi meticulously warp hard funk, psych, soul, dub, angular rock and no-wave noise into a mechanical beast that can take you from dream to dance in 30 seconds flat. The instrumentation is relatively simple: guitar and drums. But it's the endless tap-dancing of effects pedals and rock solid dub beats that make every moment more magical than the last. Having played with everyone from Black Dice to Cex to Gold Chains - and thoroughly blowing their minds all the same - Nice Nice are that rare band that seems to equally appeal to the bedroom stoners and Friday night hipsters. "The results are in and it's unanimous -- Lambchop stole the show at XX Merge." -- WASHINGTON POST
"..the Nashville weirdos have never gotten the popular attention they've long deserved. Friday night, they won the capacity crowd at the Cradle forever. It was a revelatory
moment, suggesting that we've got five years from right now to reconsider Lambchop." -- PITCHFORK
"It truly was a performance for the ages." -- AQUARIUM DRUNKARD
As Merge fans know, Lambchop has been on the label since 1993, releasing a string of widely varied but consistently brilliant records. But the live Lambchop experience has been somewhat elusive in the U.S. While the band has toured the gilded theaters of Europe and elsewhere for nearly two decades, the Nashville group has seldom toured their home country. To help celebrate Merge's 20th Anniversary the band showed up in one of their largest lineups in recent memory -- 11-strong, including multiple
guitars, keyboards, piano, and a horn section. By the end of their set, everyone in the packed Cats Cradle - band and audience both - was levitating a few inches off the ground.

He came from the 'Land Of The Midnight Sun', sparkled on the jazz-rock stage as an 'Elegant Gypsy', came up trumps in the 'Casino' with all the right chords and melodies, and his 'Splendido Hotel' was the number one address for fusion fans around the globe. He finally achieved immortality together with John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia on 'Friday Night In San Francisco'. From his early days as a rising star i right up to the present day, he has continually managed to refine his qualities: breathtakingly fast picking, skillful percussion effects the like of which had never been heard before, the effortlessness with which he can instantly switch from muscular axe-man rock to spinning gentle, romantic webs of melody. In the nineties, inspired by his love of the acoustic sounds of Latin America and the works of nuevo tango pioneer Astor Piazzolla, he made some delightful chamber music recordings.
On more recent albums all these penchants, influences and musical movements have fused into an unmistakable sound. 'Elysium' is the climax of this process so far. The artist has arrived where he always wanted to be. He himself thinks of Elysium as a 'place of perfect happiness'. A paradise where acoustic and electric components, triumphant rock and finely entwined jazz, delicate and pumping rhythms, guitars and keyboards, wide panoramas of rock and diaphanous carpets of sound come together in harmony. The gates to paradise for guitar aficionados are open to everyone - with 'Elysium.'

CircuitalAcclaimed Band Goes Back to Kentucky Rock Roots on Scintillating 2011 Set
Adventurous, Organic, Focused, and Fun: Jim James and Co. Get Their Jam On
LPs Cut at 45PRM and Pressed on 180g Audiophile Vinyl: Excellent Sonics
My Morning Jacket's sixth studio album, the stunning Circuital, finds the band going back to its Kentucky rock roots while still mixing in tempered amounts of the experimentalist streaks on its two previous efforts. The album was recorded in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN and co-produced by frontman Jim James and Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists). The result is yet another reinvention of the group's sound that both forges new ground and maintains the distinct spirit of MMJ's previous genre bending work.
Critics were already praising the effort on the week before its release, and James has rarely expressed such open-minded admiration for his own work. Plus, the sound is riveting. And vinyl is the way to hear this excellent record, as the two 180g LPs are cut at 45rpm and housed in gatefold packaging. Includes poster insert with lyrics and inner sleeves with full color artwork.
Recorded in a Louisville church gymnasium, Circuital is just as adventurous, yet more organic and focused; when James sings, Play it smart, soul intact/How you react is what you'll get back, against lovely circular guitar shimmer on You Wanna Freak Out, he's like the beard-rock version of Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights, showing the boys how to relax and channel their inner jam.
--Jon Dolan, Rolling Stone, May 26, 2011
The [title track] is the centerpiece of what in the vinyl era wouldve been Side 1 of the album, with the tracks sequenced to melt one into the next. The ascending, trance-like Victory Dance, the undulating finger-picked guitar and yearning vocal of Wonderful (The Way I Feel), the surreal combination of Beach Boys-like vocals and pedal-steel guitar on Outta My Systemit makes for a brilliant start and raises expectations that My Morning Jacket has finally made its classic.

Here's Little RichardLittle Richard had been making records for four years before he rolled into Cosimo Matassa's J&M Studio in New Orleans and cut the epochal Tutti Frutti in the fall of 1955, but everything else he'd done -- and much of what others had recorded -- faded into insignificance when Richard wailed A wop bop a loo mop a lomp bomp bomp and kicked off one of the first great wailers in rock history. In retrospect, Little Richard's style doesn't seem so strikingly innovative as captured in 1956's Here's Little Richard -- his boogie-woogie piano stylings weren't all that different from what Fats Domino had been laying down since 1949, and his band pumped out the New Orleans backbeat that would define the Crescent City's R&B for the next two decades, albeit with precision and plenty of groove. But what set Richard apart was his willingness to ramp up the tempos and turn the outrage meter up to ten; Tutti Frutti, Rip It Up, and Jenny Jenny still sound outrageous a half-century after they were waxed, and it's difficult but intriguing to imagine how people must have reacted to Little Richard at a time when African-American performers were expected to be polite, and the notion of a gay man venturing out of the closet simply didn't exist (Richard's songs were thoroughly heterosexual on the surface, but the nudge and wink of Tutti Frutti and Baby is faint but visible, and his bop threads, mile-high process, and eye makeup clearly categorized him as someone different). These 12 tunes may not represent the alpha and omega of Little Richard's best music, but every song is a classic and unlike many of his peers, time has refused to render this first album quaint -- Richard's grainy scream remains one of the great sounds in rock & roll history, and the thunder of his piano and the frantic wail of the band is still the glorious call of a Friday night with pay in the pocket and trouble in mind. Brilliant stuff.

Look UpIt can be far too easy to get caught in negativity in today's world. We're surrounded by it in the news, the media and even entertainment. And that's what makes Mod Sun's music and message all the more refreshing.
"It's about empowerment. It's about saying it's okay to sit by yourself on a Friday night and make music. You'll never be lonely if you love the person you're alone with," says the rapper, whose name stands for "Movement On Dreams Stand Under None."
A Minnesota native, Mod grew up in a household that played everything from Bob Dylan to Prince, and that eclectic foundation has informed his musical journey. He started playing drums at age 13, and by 16, he began touring with a few bands, including the successful rock group Four Letter Lie.
But his heart told him to go after something else.
"I was in a state of comfort, touring and in a band, and I decided I wanted to totally change it up and do something I believed in," the 27-year-old remembers.
So he gave up that steady gig to pick up the mic. Mod wrote his first song at age 19, and hasn't looked back since. Over the last eight years, he has released six mixtapes and three EPs. He has collaborated with artists including Schoolboy Q, Nipsey Hussle and G-Eazy, and earned a spot as one of sixteen independent artists from around the world competing for the cover of Rolling Stone in 2011.
After his most recent release, 2012's Happy As Fuck, he again proved his artistic versatility, by momentarily shifting his writing focus in a new direction: His book, Did I Ever Wake Up?
"It's all about the fact of making your life a dream," he says of the inspirational work. "I was a stubborn kid. You can never learn if you're always right. It took all these things for me to become what I want to be."
Now, the focus is again squarely on the music. He's built plenty of momentum over the last year, thanks to videos for tracks like "My Hippy, "Free Love" and "Mushrooms." And now, Mod is getting ready to deliver his Friend Base - because he has no fans, only friends - his debut album, which is due at the top of 2015, through Rostrum Records.
The music has grown, but the underlying message remains.

I Know What Love Isn'tTracey Thorn wrote a song that reached Jens Lekman in the early stages of his new album, I Know What Love Isn't. In her song she sang Oh Jens, oh Jens/your songs seem to look through a different lens/you're still so young, love ends just as easy as it's begun. A touching moment for the Swedish songwriter, having been a fan since his teens. But it came to him in a time when he found himself very confused and in doubt. He was changing and, subsequently, so were his songs. They weren't looking through that lens anymore.
I Know What Love Isn't came out of a break up, something Jens didn't see as worth writing about at first. The songs began more fleeting than the last go around, on his 2007 album Night Falls Over Kortedala. The songs began building from images and memories and soon began to take their own route, one that Lekman wasn't privy to their destination.
In The World Moves On he paints a picture of a sweltering summer in the city of Melbourne where he lived while writing and recording the album. The hot days that led up to the Black Saturday bushfires, but also more mundane images of feeding possums in a park or getting in trouble with some guy on a scooter. It seems to lead nowhere at first but the aimlessness in itself reaches heartbreaking conclusions later on, summed up by the soaring chorus and you don't get over a broken heart, you just learn to carry it gracefully. Like Joan Didion once said that she writes entirely to find out what she's thinking, Jens wrote until he caught up with his thoughts. And of course they led him right back to the break up.
Musically, I Know What Love Isn't chooses an economic route. From the vast palette he created for Kortedala, he's only chosen a few somber colors this time around. There are strings but not a string section, an upright piano and not a grand, a single saxophone and gracenotes from a flute. The songs are lighter, almost aerodynamic, Jens explains, I wanted the songs to take off almost unnoticeably, where the chorus is separated from the verse only through a small detail like a tambourine or a harmony. Like when you're in an airplane taking off and you look out the window and realize you're already in the air.
A dry country piano makes Become Someone Else's lift high. Vocals from Melbourne singer Sophie Brous makes the chorus in Erica America soar. Strings pick up the title track and send it up to the sky without much effort or force. In the latter, Lekman once again points the way to distill essential truths from every day life vignettes while singing about a sham marriage. I thought of the Friday nights when I'd be cruising up and down the street with my best friend in her old crappy Holden, talking about getting married to get me into the country.
The idea was so appealing, that we would build this constructed relationship around a purpose rather than some vague feeling that could change at anytime. But in the end, the sham marriage is much too great a story to be kept secret. At least when you make a living from telling stories. And that's what I Know What Love Isn't is. A collection of songs that grew to a story that had to be told. A story that is not new, but essentially human. The story of the grey areas of love that you have to excavate and explore, using the method of exclusion, to find out what love is.1. Every Little Hair Knows Your Name
