    Love Sign

Crafting some of the finest guitar-filled power pop this side of Weezer or Cheap Trick-Free Energy signed to NYC powerhouse DFA records (based on their homemade demos) and recorded their debut with James Murphy. They toured for nearly two years behind the release of 2010's Stuck on Nothing and the accolades
came in, including a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone's assessment that the band "totally fucking rules."

While it might have seemed an odd fit for a power-riffing pop rock act to put out a record on a West Village disco label, the euphoric vibe of Free Energy perfectly complimented a roster of artistically different but equally accomplished bands, such as Black Dice, Yacht, The Rapture, and LCD Soundsystem. This sophomore release demonstrates the band doing what they love-condensing handclaps, harmonies, massive choruses, and lazer guided guitar leads into tracks like "Electric Fever", "Hey Tonight" and "Girls Want Rock" - while working
a time-tested formula that can still sound fresh in the right hands. Much like their DFA debut, Love Sign flirts with hysteria-inducing pop songwriting and classic rock production, this time around working with John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.
and The Hold Steady). Released on the band's new imprint "Free Energy Records".

    Free To Eat

Plague Vendor are from Whittier, CA. They make garage-style punk reminiscent of
Gun Club or Grinderman and manifests most recently in bands like The Black Lips,
FIDLAR, Iceage, and Ty Segall. Guitar, bass and drums, and a kinetic frontman, channeling his inner Nick Cave and willing to spill a little blood for your entertainment.
Signed to Epitaph after some impressive live shows and a near perfect demo, Plague
Vendor release their debut full length, Free to Eat, this April. Plague Vendor's snarling
guitars and high energy sets will make young music fans who have never heard of the
bands mentioned above fully engaged in Plague Vendor's infectious second wave of

Do Whatever You Want All The Time

Two years after their beloved LP Ice Scream Spiritual, Ponytail return with Do Whatever You Want All The Time, the album named after some free-association-banter during last summer's Baltimore Music Festival Whartscape. Like Ice Cream Spiritual, the energy of Ponytail is still alive and full throttle, but on Do Whatever You Want All The Time there is a more sophisticated and experimental song approach. This is complex-intellectual pop and it's their most phenomenal album thus far.

    Held In Splendor

As warm and relaxing as falling asleep in the sun." - Stereogum

Judging from the early glimpse, Held In Splendor benets greatly from a more focused creative process. - SPIN

Like a dusted-off artifact from a trippier time...borrowing from junkyard blues and '60s psychedelia while still sounding like its own thing. - The Fader

Quilt's free-falling, unltered sound is the kind you'll have a hard time getting out of your head. - Interview Magazine

When the three members of Quilt arrived in New York City in April to begin
the intensive recording process for their second album, the new and aptly
named Held In Splendor, they stepped directly into spring. Anna Fox
Rochinski, Shane Butler and John Andrews had spent much of the previous
several months clutched away at The Puritan Garage in Boston's
Charlestown, shielding themselves from a winter of blizzards with the haven
of their practice space and a set of fresh songs.

Since the release of their 2011 self-titled debut on Mexican Summer, they'd
become more than kids just out of college. They'd become a bona de
hard-touring band, with stories to share from the road and experiences to
distill into the narrative of new music. Though they continued to write and
arrange tunes together, always an essential part of Quilt's creative process,
they brought songs to one another, too, making and modifying demo tapes
for the rst time. No longer rookies, Quilt began to approach their music like
a lifeline. Coming to New York, then, just as the magnolia trees bloomed
and the season of new life began to blossom, Quilt got to work.

Indeed, when Butler talks about recording the kaleidoscopic Held In
Splendor, he seems to speak of an ornate children's playground. Whereas
their rst album was made mostly for free and mostly by friends over the
course of a year of starts and stops, in sessions that captured the early and
elemental and exciting efforts of a band nding its footing, Quilt entered the
proper in-house studio located beneath the Mexican Summer ofces in
Brooklyn for this one. They'd allocated a solid month for recording, and they
clocked full days, every day, with Woods member and producer Jarvis
    Taveniere.

The approach was wide-open: They tuned drums and recorded the same
song with multiple microphone set-ups. They added bass and invited friends
who added saxophone and violin, cello and steel guitar. They built this
    album together.

Held In Splendor is an audacious pop-rock record with cascading harmonies
and billowing textures, punchy rhythms and snarled guitars, wonderful depth
and resplendent peaks. "Mary Mountain" takes hazy Summer of Love
memories on a mid-summer road trip in a gleaming muscle car. "Tired &
Buttered" invites Booker T over for an energy-addled jam in the garage.
"The Hollow" twinkles like Fleetwood Mac and Galaxie 500, with sweet
singing backed by the lap steel sighs of young acoustic guitar star and
longtime Quilt pal Daniel Bachman. Held In Splendor is an album of
personal poetry and public questions, confessions and aspirations-really,
these 13 tracks are their own playground, brimming with the sort of
unapologetic energy and wonder that turns simple songs into absolute
    anthems.

    Offramp

This 1982 recording by the Pat Metheny Group represented a crossroads for the guitarist, a creative expansion from his original concept in terms of acoustic and electric instrumentation, folksy roots material and modern jazz influences, American and third world sources. Having thus marked out the territory for a decade's worth of experimentation and growth, the Metheny Group cemented its standing on the cutting edge of contemporary jazz with Offramp. Lyle Mays' harmonica-like synth theme, Metheny's soaring, vocalized synth-guitar lead, some rich orchestral touches, and an easygoing blend of backbeat and chord changes made Are You Going with Me? one of Metheny's most enduring arrangements. Still, for every gentle, alluring set piece, such as the tangolike Au Lait or the rural vistas of James, there was a visceral, emotive free-for-all like the title track, where Metheny unleashed wild, wailing synth guitar elisions over a loose, abstract pulse--anticipating the energy of the guitarist's collaboration with free jazz guru Ornette Coleman some four years hence on Song X. --Chip Stern

Juke Joint At The Edge Of The World

Juke Joint At The Edge Of The World is a record that reflects the freedom my bandmates and I have found playing together in the last few years. Some of the places we play are like the old juke joints where people dance and shout - from these people and places we've found the energy we need to be free to shake the music up. Now, when we improvise we know it's going to take us to a new and better musical place. Time listening and working together has given us that. The result is that this record has more of a "live in the studio" feel to it. It's also rooted more in the soul and R&B dance music I grew up listening to and playing. Less thinking and more playing. Less analyzing and more fun.

When I wrote these new songs, I inhabited various characters and let them speak from their worlds about delusions and fantasy ("Plan B"), poverty, humor and strength ("Pot Holes on Main Street"), memories of my youth and class/race segregation ("Garbage Man"). I dreamed the song "Mali Katra" (what language is that?) after seeing a large group of vultures roosting on a cell tower on one of my walks. This got me thinking about the spirits and powers that roam the world and run in the background of our lives. The artwork for the cover reminds me of the absurdity and wildness of all that. I thought about calling the record Rex Comes Home. Anyway, I wouldn't take that call from that particular cell tower.

I could go on and on but suffice it to say the music is freer this time and the songs will take you places that make you dream and dance. Enjoy!

Eric Dolphy has sometimes been described as an iconoclast, but in Outward Bound, he was not overturning his idol, Charlie Parker; he was building on Bird's legacy. So deep was Dolphy's musicianship, so free his imagination, that he enchanted trailblazers like John Coltrane and Charles Mingus. Partnering in this collection with the brilliant trumpeter Freddie Hubbard and a stunning rhythm section, Dolphy is at a peak of energy and creativity on alto saxophone, bass clarinet, and flute. He and Hubbard work with empathy reminiscent of the young Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. Pianist Jaki Byard, bassist George Tucker, and drummer Roy Haynes were ideal accompanists and co-conspirators in this widely influential work.

    African Carnival

The '70s was a vibrant musical period universally and the scene in Nigeria was no exception. Bands sprang up all over the country, free to fuse their traditional music with genres such as soul, funk and pop. In the midst of this creative turmoil, an effervescent style innovator called Fred Fisher, famed trombonist, vocalist, composer, songwriter, hit the world with his high energy dance grooves and catchy melodies.

This fabulous compilation, African Carnival, collects the best songs from Fred Fisher's albums: Say The Truth (1979), No Way (1981), Wahala Dey For Town (1988) and Ogiza (1990), complete with liner notes by Nigerian specialist Samuel Kayode.

    Night Falls Again

The duo from Brazil lives by the philosophy that electronic music should have no boundaries, creativity and feelings are the only things that matter. Their free spirited natures and Latin American passion is funnelled into twelve distinct tracks on 'Night Falls Again', an album of pure electronic gold. There's no denying this is music made for the dancefloor. However it incorporates an aura of mysticism, a romance in its vocals and a melancholy in its soaring synths. Tracks such as 'Favourite Addiction' featuring Clarian and the solid grooves of '1000 Friends' share an unbridled energy and are cleverly framed by seductive vocals flaunting lyrics that spark with the shimmer of pop but are grounded by the power of raw electro. This is music that tell a story, one that demands to be heard.

Replacing the multi award winning and five times What Hi-Fi? Product of the Year (RP3) was never going to be an easy task. It took a team of designers headed up by Rega's Roy Gandy, two years to develop the all new 'Planar 3' following the biggest re-design of the iconic 'three' model ever seen.

The Rega team has worked tirelessly to improve every aspect of this turntable offering improved ergonomics, usability and first and foremost, sonic performance. The new 'Planar 3' is truly a new turntable for 2016 carrying over just two components from the previous model.

New features of the Planar Three:

RB330 tonearm - Designed using the latest 3D CAD & CAM technology, the new RB330 is the culmination of more than 35 years of tonearm design experience. Featuring a brand new bearing housing, and our latest tonearm tube designed using intelligent redistribution of mass ensure this arm will exhibit fewer points of possible resonance. Extreme stability with almost friction free movement from the new high precision bearing assemblies guarantees to gather more information from your vinyl than ever before.

    • Featuring a new bias assembly, re-designed stiffer vertical bearing housing, integrated
arm clip and an improved spring housing with easier to read numbers.
    • Rega made, new low capacitance phono cable with Neutrik plugs,
    • Improved lower friction, precision horizontal and vertical bearings
    • New design 100g mild steel balance weight.

Plinth - High gloss acrylic, laminated plinth, stiffer and vastly improved appearance, ergonomically positioned power switch. Two plinth finishes at launch: gloss black & gloss white

Double braces - Improved thicker 3mm phenolic bottom brace and new metalised skin phenolic top brace.

Bearing housing - Re-designed brass main hub central bearing, improved fit and construction reducing stress on the bearing itself.

Sub platter - Re-designed sub platter, improved accuracy and improved stiffness.

Platter - New float glass 'Optiwhite' polished rim 12mm - Improved accuracy in manufacture and stunning looks.

Re-designed foot - New improved foot to increase stability and reduce vibration transfer.

24V motor - Improved new motor control PCB with integration for the addition of TT-PSU for electronic speed change and improved advanced anti-vibration circuit (sold separately).

Motor cover tray with integrated cooling.

    DB Technology (Double Brace Technology)

Mass absorbs energy - lost energy equals lost music!

Rega has pioneered the use of lightweight rigid plinths. Clever use of lightweight particulate core with a highly rigid phenolic resin skin became the foundations of the high level of performance achieved by the now iconic original Planar range.

The new Planar 3 takes this design philosophy to the next level. A lightweight acrylic laminated plinth strengthened using a new improved double brace system mounted specifically where the increased rigidity is required (between the tonearm mounting and the main hub bearing) which forms a structurally sound stressed beam assembly. This rigid plinth design prevents energy absorption and unwanted resonance, which will add unnatural distortions to the music.

Equally, heavier mass can transfer more unwanted energy, such as motor or bearing noise directly into the rotating record. The use of braces instead of the complete skin allows double thickness phenolic resin in these key areas while providing further weight reduction to the plinth which directly addresses the issue of mass absorption and unwanted energy transmission.

    Hand assembled RB330 tonearm.

24v low noise motor / 12mm float glass platter.

    Lightweight double braced plinth.

    Precision main bearing.

Factory fitted Elys2 MM cartridge or mounted with Ortofon 2m Blue cartridge (optional).

Compatible with the TT-PSU electronic speed change and power supply box (optional).

For more than a decade, DeVotchKa has melded its influences, from Eastern European wedding bands to Norteno ballads, into an authentic and totally original blend of popular music. The bands haunting, romantic sound evokes timeless images, attracting thousands of fans to their sold-out live shows. DeVotchKas sound has proved particularly attractive to filmmakers, who have used the group's songs to score countless films and commercials, most famously Little Miss Sunshine, for which they received a Grammy nod.

With the release of the band's fifth album, 100 Lovers, the band returns to the epic settings of the Arizona desert with producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case) to create a new collection of haunting stories, with songs like The Man From San Sebastian delivering on their intriguing titles with enigmatic lyrics and cinematic soundscapes.

For 100 Lovers, DeVotchKa spent over a year refining their sound, taking multiple trips to the studio to craft twelve new recordings. The final product is the bands strongest album to date, combining the energy and pop verve of How It Ends with the lush arrangements of A Mad and Faithful Telling, filled with songs fans will love, memorable melodies to draw in new listeners, and driving beats that will slip seamlessly into their rousing live sets.

    Other Death

This fall sees the release of Sean Nicholas Savage's latest record, Other Death. Savage, a master of tenderness, reflection and projection, has released and toured relentlessly in pursuit of the rarer beauties found only in the nuance of pop song and performance. Other Death was recorded in Santa Monica, Los Angeles as a collaboration with Agor, of Savage's Arbutus labelmates Blue Hawaii, while Errhead of Doldrums plays on much of the record. Ramona Gonzalez Nite Jewel also makes an appearance, as do TOPS' Jane Penny and David Carriere. This is Savage's highest fidelity recording to date, with daring, captivating, and as always minimal and soft production style. In contrast to his usual introspection, Other Death is immediately more upbeat, uptempo, confident, inspired and delivers more consistent pop singles than any of his previous records. Savage is not playing to the middle. Here he gives his listeners, those who crave a harder SNS smack, the energy they crave. This is the release fans will turn to when they want to feel the sophisticated, delicate, and enchanted music of Sean Nicholas Savage at its most brave, free and loud. It's as if upon being tossed a copy of Other Life, Savage reads the message; Other Life? and throws it back at us in blood red, Other Death.

The image of London's dramatic Tower Bridge is so famous that it is often mistakenly thought of as London Bridge. Tower Bridge, completed in 1894, is an unusual combination of suspension bridges on the land side of the towers, and dual bascule spans in the center. As with the many bascule bridges in St. Petersburg, Russia and over the Chicago River, moving this weight-balanced roadway requires comparatively little energy, making it very efficient for allowing river traffic to pass. Tower Bridge's original hydraulic accumulators were a significant advance in storing the energy required to be able to open the two 1,000 ton bascules in only five minutes.

SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Evergreen's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.

FOAMED-POLYETHYLENE INSULATION: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Tower uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on both conductors because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

ASYMMETRICAL DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Asymmetrical Double-Balanced Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

COLD-WELDED, GOLD-PLATED TERMINATIONS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.

For Wild Blue Yonder to exceed the performance of Sky we increased the diameter of the FEP Air-Tube Insulation by 32%, thus creating greater space around the solid Perfect-Surface Silver Conductors. The Noise-Dissipation System increases from a 5-layer system found in Sky to a 7-Layer System. But to go even further, new techniques and materials needed to be used for the construction of the connectors. Custom-machined Direct-Silver Plated Pure-Copper connectors are Cold-Welded to insure a low-distortion contact between the cable and component.

SOLID 100% PERFECT-SURFACE SILVER CONDUCTORS (PSS): Perfect-Surface Technology applied to extreme-purity silver provides unprecedented clarity and dynamic contrast. Solid conductors prevent strand interaction, a major source of cable distortion. Extremely high-purity Perfect-Surface Silver minimizes distortion caused by the grain boundaries that exist within any metal conductor, nearly eliminating harshness and greatly increasing clarity compared to OFHC, OCC, 8N and other coppers.

FEP AIR-TUBE INSULATION (FEP is a Fluoro-Polymer): Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then later released as distortion. All of Wild Blue Yonder's conductors use Air-Tube insulation because air absorbs next to no energy, and FEP is the best extrudable solid insulation and absorbs less energy than other materials. The FEP Air-Tubes used in Wild Blue Yonder have almost nothing but air around the solid PSS conductors.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #s 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): All insulation slows down the signal on the conductor inside. When insulation is unbiased, it slows down parts of the signal differently, a big problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. AudioQuest's DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This minimizes both energy storage in the insulation and the multiple nonlinear time-delays that occur. Sound appears from a surprisingly black background with unexpected detail and dynamic contrast. The DBS battery packs will last for years. A test button and LED allow for the occasional battery check.

CARBON-BASED 7-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Metal and Carbon-Loaded synthetics prevent most RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: The three conductors in "Triple-Balanced" Wild Blue Yonder cables ensure that whether prepared with RCA or XLR plugs, the positive and negative signals have equally low-distortion conducting paths. The 100% coverage shield is never used as an inferior conductor.

COLD-WELDED HANGING SILVER DIRECTLY OVER PURE RED COPPER SYSTEM: This plug design enables a perfect heat-free connection between cable and plug. The connection between the plug and conductors is made using AQ's Cold-Welded System, which provides a superior connection that ensures that the structural integrity of the conductor is kept completely intact. The Cold-Welded System refers to a combination of high pressure at the point of contact and the use of copper- or silver-impregnated paste. (Wild Blue Yonder's silver conductors get silver paste.) XLR plugs are also available.

Liszt Two Piano Concertos (Speakers Corner)

Any pianist who tackles Franz Liszts great works must possess outstanding skills in many areas. Technical prowess is absolutely necessary to play the extremely difficult score, as is immense physical energy in order to compete with the hefty onslaughts from the orchestra. But a great awareness of the unusual conceptual forms, refined energy and passion are also required to make the keyboard sing. At the beginning of the Sixties Sviatoslav Richter seemed to possess all these attributes in an ideal equilibrium. With youthful energy he catapulted powerful chords against the First Concertos defiant theme in the orchestra, offering resistance only to join in later with the lyrical maelstrom of the orchestra. In the Second Concerto Richter exchanges heroic brilliance for an elegiac air, then becomes capricious with graceful arpeggios and a lyrical, firm melodiousness that fires the course of the work. In the Finale these twists and turns come together to form an emphatic single strand of spirited theme, brilliant cadenza and blustering orchestra.

The impressive sound was captured by the highly dedicated Mercury recording team.

Recording: July 1961 at Walthamstow Assembly Hall, London, by C.R. Fine

    Production: Harold Lawrence

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Live At Third Man Records

Performance Recorded Direct-To-Acetate On March 26, 2016, At Third Man Nashville's Blue Room Venue

It's no stretch to say that Carla Azar is one of America's greatest living drummers. Intuitive, skilled, and perched quite comfortably on the extremely thin line between high energy and total entropy. All too often the title is heaped upon some goofball doing blast beats, rambling about breakdowns and power violence, all can easily be mistaken for the sounds of a scratched CD. Lucky for us and lucky for every pair of ears the whole world over, Third Man doesn't buy into that nonsense. And CDs? Scratched or brand spankin' new, they're not our preferred medium.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Autolux is comprised of singer/bassist Eugene Goreshter, drummer Azar, and guitarist/keyboardist Greg Edwards. The band formed in 2000 and has released two EPs and three LPs, including Pussy's Dead in 2016, shortly before this epic live show was recorded in the Third Man Blue Room. Their sound is peculiar and unmistakable, a collision of post-punk, noise, pop and electronica (Organica? Maybe!). Think cyborg whistling glitch-hop mash-ups. You get it? Haha! Nice!

Live records speak for themselves. This record speaks for itself. If you need us to say anything further, we're gonna need you to set this sheet down, free up both hands, use one to call your mom, keep her on the line, and use the other to hold her hand while she walks you toward the record bin housing something ''on your level,'' because apparently live music ain't your thing. But if you're still reading, it's because you clearly get it. Now go grip this record and see what the fuss is all about.

    The Unexamined Life

Supreme Dicks put out one single in their career. It was a double B-side. Maybe they had a sense of humor, but in hindsight it's hard to tell.

Falling somewhere between Captain Beefheart, Throbbing Gristle and SALEM in the lineage of musicians who've found a muse in the nasty, brutish brevity of life, Supreme Dicks chose to cloak disarmingly real paranoia and grief in the contemporary trappings of late '80s and early '90s lo-fi college rock. They may have inhabited the same sonic and physical space as colleagues like Dinosaur jr. (Lou Barlow was an occasional Dick, and at least one early Dinosaur jr show was actually played by Dicks in disguise), but they stripped away all youthful yearning and anticipation in favor of a bleak and unblinking certainty. Honest, frank, and free of ironic distance. Obtuse and yet so essential that it can't help but feel familiar to anyone who's ever spent a sleepless night wondering whether there's any point to all of this. And, on occasion, warm, intimate and lovely.

The Supreme Dicks formed while students at Massachusetts' Hampshire College in the twilight of the Reagan era. The campus was a fractured post-hippie free-for-all that many students theorized was a right-wing think tank experiment in pitting progressives against each other. The constantly revolving lineup centered around Daniel Oxenberg, Jon Shere, Steve Shavel, Mark Hanson, Jim Spring, and whoever else was around and willing to torture an instrument. They advocated the teachings of Wilhelm Reich and were vocal about focusing their creative energy via celibacy. This may do much to explain the constant, unrelenting tension that provides the driving force behind the most powerful moments in their music. Regardless of tempo or arrangement, Supreme Dicks songs play like soundtracks to autoerotic asphyxiation, haunting tones that ring in the ears at the moment consciousness is lost and not guaranteed to return.

Jagjaguwar is proud to reintroduce the complete recordings of Supreme Dicks in the form of Breathing and Not Breathing, a four CD set that includes both of the band's studio albums, The Unexamined Life from 1993 and The Emotional Plague from 1996, along with 1994's Workingman's Dick, a collection of early archival recordings, and the 1996 EP This Is Not A Dick, which has been fleshed out with rare and unreleased tracks. Also available are 2xLP editions of The Unexamined Life and The Emotional Plague, neither of which has been previously released on vinyl.

    The Need Of Love

Fusing a daring range of styles including funk, soul, and John Coltrane-inspired free jazz, Earth, Wind & Fire's sophomore effort is fearlessly experimental. On the nearly 10-minute opener, "Energy," a groove-oriented funk arrangement opens up into a freeform, kaleidoscopic jam. The mind-bending riffs and positive-minded lyrics of tracks like Beauty and Everything Is Everything have the uplift of early Sly Stone. With its spaced-out vibe and infectious hooks, this may be our favorite EWF record for late nights and hazy mornings.

Superior cantilever designs have always employed tapered cantilevers - Hard to do with aluminum, and all but impossible with the super hard and durable materials, such as boron, ruby or diamond. Cantilevers must also have dualistic qualities that are mutually exclusive; both stiffness and damping are required.
