The Standards Bob Sang (Pre-Order) (On Sale)

Ltd Coloured Vinyl: Solid Purple Mixed With Gold

Bob Dylan recently released Triplicate, his third collection of pop standards. Like Dylan's earlier albums, Shadows in the Night (2015) and Fallen Angels (2016), most of the songs have an association with the great Frank Sinatra.

This double LP presents Frank Sinatra's versions of many of the songs Dylan sang in these three forays into the Great American Songbook. Orchestras accompanying the iconic singer are led by Nelson Riddle, Gordon Jenkins, Billy May,Alex Stordahl, and Tommy Dorsey, among others.

Dylan once related this about an encounter he had with Ol' Blue Eyes: "He was funny, we were standing out on his patio at night and he said to me, 'You and me, pal, we got blue eyes, we're from up there,' and he pointed to the stars. 'These other bums are from down here.' I remember thinking that he might be right."

    Sinatra's Swingin' Session

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes

Legend has it that when Frank Sinatra initially stepped into the recording studio for the first of four sessions, he asked Nelson Riddle to speed up the tempos to the songs that landed on Sinatra's Swingin' Session!!! It's safe to say that the arranger followed orders and that the results-buoyant, cheery, fun, exuberant, zesty, and wonderfully jazzy-speak for themselves. This 1961 effort remains the Chairman's fastest, hardest-swinging set. And oh, how it swaggers.

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited edition 180 gram LP of this gem possesses a punchiness, immediacy, forcefulness, and dynamic heft that rivals even what's heard on a pristine original Capitol pressing-provided you can even find one. The reissue will help convert your room into a studio stuffed with horn players and percussionists, with Sinatra, decked out in a trademark fedora and suit, holding court at the center of it all. Sinatra's Swingin' Session!!! isn't a live album, but it hits with the gusto and tang of one.

Forget about incorrect rumors that state that this album was only completed due to contractual obligations and that Sinatra hurried through the material. No matter the circumstances, nothing here is tossed-off or rushed. As always, Sinatra takes it all seriously, pouring his all into each of the dozen tracks here. He wouldn't have it any other way. Name another singer from his era (or any) that could possibly keep time with these uptempo beats and sound as if he isn't even breaking a sweat. Needless to say, Sinatra has a blast making it all happen.

Riddle's arrangements help push forward the tunes, whether they be happy standards such as "When You're Smiling (The Whole World Smiles With You)," optimistic finger-snappers like "S'posin'," or the evergreen "Blue Moon," punctuated with a memorable tenor sax solo. Melodies unfurl like red ribbons on packages; grooves alternate between galloping and gallivanting; even ballads can't resist moving to joyous rhythmic patterns. Throughout, Sinatra's casual, uninhibited singing rises above the band, producing emotions that are at once frisky, lighthearted, pleasurable, and contagious. Dust off your dancing shoes.

    In The Wee Small Hours

Expanding on the concept of Songs for Young Lovers!, In the Wee Small Hours was a collection of ballads arranged by Nelson Riddle. The first 12 album recorded by Sinatra, Wee Small Hours was more focused and concentrated than his two earlier concept records. It's a blue, melancholy album, built around a spare rhythm section featuring a rhythm guitar, celesta, and Bill Miller's piano, with gently aching strings added every once and a while. Within that melancholy mood is one of Sinatra's most jazz-oriented performances -- he restructures the melody and Miller's playing is bold throughout the record. Where Songs for Young Lovers! emphasized the romantic aspects of the songs, Sinatra sounds like a lonely, broken man on In the Wee Small Hours. Beginning with the newly written title song, the singer goes through a series of standards that are lonely and desolate. In many ways, the album is a personal reflection of the heartbreak of his doomed love affair with actress Ava Gardner, and the standards that he sings form their own story when collected together. Sinatra's voice had deepened and worn to the point where his delivery seems ravished and heartfelt, as if he were living the songs.

    Point Of No Return

Point of No Return on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram Stereo LP from Mobile Fidelity

Memories of You: Sinatra Waves Farewell to Capitol on Elegantly Dressed Standards Set from 1961

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Mobile Fidelity 180 Gram LP Captures Gracefulness of Ornate Orchestrations

Sinatra Reunited With Arranger Axel Stordahl, Collaborator That Spearheaded the Voice's Rise in the 1940s

Thematic Songs Address Goodbyes With Profound Sense of Sadness, Longing

Nobody says goodbye like Frank Sinatra. For his final album with Capitol, Ol' Blue Eyes elected to croon an unforgettable selection of farewell songs marked with longing, sadness, and poignancy. To make the occasion even more special, he teamed with arranger Axel Stordahl, the virtuoso that helped launch Sinatra's star at Columbia during the 1940s. The results amount to one of the finest send-off statements in history.

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited edition 180 gram stereo LP presents the songs as they should be experienced: In rich, lush, front-to-back sound in which the strings soar and literally inhale and exhale. Sinatra's singing, as good as it's ever been during his career, comes across with unfettered transparency and tonal purity. Such is the fidelity, the music turns into aural poetry, rendering completely fluid and tube-amp warm the rushes of strings, words, and structures.

Sinatra fans continually debate which of the artist's albums rank as his best, but there's no doubting the status attached to Point of No Return. Unquestionably the most overlooked effort in the Chairman's Capitol catalog, it defies common expectation that it was made haphazardly to simply fulfill a contractual obligation. Sinatra's presence alone guarantees that isn't the case, yet Stordahl's involvement ensures this 1961 set is something very special indeed.

The chemistry between the old collaborators is immediately evident. Sinatra inhabits every phrase, feeling, and expression conveyed on the dozen standards, achieving an intimate connection with Stordahl's instrumental accents. Akin to the downbeat moods he casts on the immortal In the Wee Small Hours and Only the Lonely, the vocalist keeps calm and cool, yearning and reflecting as if he's strolling a barren downtown after midnight, a man left alone with his thoughts and memories. Somber, wistful, meditative, teary-eyed sentimental-Sinatra paints each song with the emotions they need, nothing more and nothing less.

From regal ("These Foolish Things (Remind Me of You)") to nostalgic ("I'll Be Seeing You"), relaxed ("September Song") to dramatic ("When the World Was Young"), Stordahl's treatments blush with natural ease and instinct, setting up Sinatra for countless moments of sublime beauty. Vocal pop aficionados, you don't want to miss this classic.

    Pure Comedy

Standard 2x Black Vinyl Housed In A Gatefold Jacket

Comes With 1 Of 4 Different Cover Color Schemes With Custom Dust Sleeves - Shipped At Random

Pure Comedy, Father John Misty's third album, is a complex, often-sardonic, and, equally often, touching meditation on the confounding folly of modern humanity. Father John Misty is the brainchild of singer-songwriter Josh Tillman. Tillman has released two widely acclaimed albums - Fear Fun (2012) and I Love You, Honeybear (2015) - and the recent "Real Love Baby" single as Father John Misty, and recently contributed to songs by BeyoncÉ, Lady Gaga, and Kid Cudi.

While we could say a lot about Pure Comedy - including that it is a bold, important album in the tradition of American songwriting greats like Harry Nilsson, Randy Newman, and Leonard Cohen - we think it's best to let its creator describe it himself. Take it away, Mr. Tillman: Pure Comedy is the story of a species born with a half-formed brain. The species' only hope for survival, nding itself on a cruel, unpredictable rock surrounded by other species who seem far more adept at this whole thing (and to whom they are delicious), is the reliance on other, slightly older, half-formed brains. This reliance takes on a few different names as their story unfolds, like "love," "culture," "family," etc. Over time, and as their brains prove to be remarkably good at inventing meaning where there is none, the species becomes the purveyor of increasingly bizarre and sophisticated ironies. These ironies are designed to help cope with the species' loathsome vulnerability and to try and reconcile how disproportionate their imagination is to the monotony of their existence. Something like that.

Pure Comedy was recorded in 2016 at the legendary United Studios (Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Beck) in Hollywood, CA. It was produced by Father John Misty and Jonathan Wilson, with engineering by Misty's longtime sound-person Trevor Spencer and orchestral arrangements by renowned composer/double-bassist Gavin Bryars (known for extensive solo work, and work with Brian Eno, Tom Waits, Derek Bailey).

Where Are You? is perfect in every sense. Recorded when Frank Sinatra was 42, the torch album finds him in impeccable voice and spirit. The dozen tracks fit together as a unified whole; it's difficult to imagine one song missing, or another added. Arranger Gordon Jenkins reads Sinatra's mind, affording him with lush arrangements that break hearts and underscore deliberation. Topping it off, Sinatra's interpretive skills utterly astonish. Genres aside, this 1957 Capitol classic is inarguably one of the ten-best vocal pop efforts made in the 1950s.

The record's splendid beauty and unparalleled emotionalism surface like never before on Mobile Fidelity's numbered, limited edition 180g mono LP. Mastered from the original master tapes, this mono version focuses the instrumentalists, images, vocals, and ambience in a transparent manner that exceeds the detail on the more-common stereo version. In addition, this reissue marks the first time this gem has been made available in mono in several decades. Akin to Mobile Fidelity's previous Sinatra titles, the sound and clarity on this LP takes the Voice into your room, puts him on an imaginary studio stage, and gives you your own private concert.

While not as known as Only the Lonely, Where Are You? is its creative equivalent, a poignant masterwork on which Sinatra reflects on what could have been, ponders life's deep questions, elicits sympathy via romantic distress, and does whatever it takes to get through the night. It is one of Sinatra's alone-at-the-bar statements, his fedora pulled slightly over his eyes, his face fixated on his drink, his only friend the understanding bartender that will keep pouring until last call. Throughout, Sinatra delves into sorrow and desolation. Yet unlike the stark gloom and bleak bitterness on In the Wee Small Hours, this solitary statement echoes with an accepting wistfulness and maturity that parallels a change of seasons-or situations.

Jenkins' warm, classically informed arrangements grant Sinatra the sentiments and support he needs. The sumptuous melodies and burnished strings complement the singer's completely natural delivery; seldom has Sinatra sounded so relaxed, dramatic, warm, cello-like, and in a zone. His lyrical phrasing and rhythmic time-keeping are spot-on; his soulfulness and sensitivity of another world. Sinatra's renditions of "Laura," "Autumn Leaves," and "Lonely Town" are the reference-bearing performances of these famous standards. If you are a fan of vocal music, consider this album mandatory.

    She Shot Me Down

She Shot Me Down is Frank Sinatra's last great album, a dark, brooding record of saloon songs delivered with an understated authority by Sinatra. Arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins and produced by Don Costa, the record largely consists of contemporary material, including five that were basically tailored for Sinatra. It's a dense, moody record that works spectacularly -- Sinatra's vocals are more alive and rich in detail than on Trilogy, and the concept is more concise and well-executed. She Shot Me Down might not consist of the classic saloon songs, but it has that feeling more than any of his other albums.

    This Time I'm Swingin'

Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP from Mobile Fidelity

Legendary Crooner Backed by Orchestra Conducted by Nelson Riddle

1960 Capitol Album of Then-Recent and Classic Standards Arguably Martin's Most Timeless Set: MoFi Edition Includes Bonus Track Ain't That a Kick in the Head

Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: No Martin Album Sounds Like This

Dean Martin was always at his best when he sounded effortless, when the singing required no exertion-just the same amount of investment required to order a martini. Confident, refined, breezy, and easygoing, this 1960 Capitol album epitomizes the crooner's charm. In pairing with arranger and Frank Sinatra right-hand-man Nelson Riddle, Martin strikes all the right notes on this collection of then-recent and retro standards.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP gets inside the core being of Martin's impeccably smooth, relaxed singing by presenting every phrase, dip, and inflection with lifelike realism. The LP does similar wonders for Riddle's backing orchestra. Horns teem with punch and midrange; rhythms possess incredible pacing; strings saunter and float. No Martin album has ever sounded like this. Mobile Fidelity also secured the rights to a bonus track, Ain't That a Kick in the Head, left off the album and released as a single in order to promote the movie Ocean's Eleven.

While Martin enjoyed his biggest commercial success at Reprise, the aptly titled This Time I'm Swingin' is considered by many critics and vocal-pop fans to be his finest studio hour. He approaches each song with supreme confidence and debonair control, never overreaching his limits or breaking a sweat. Here, he more than lives up to his nickname: The King of Cool. Charismatic, assured, and note-perfect, the album belongs alongside any of the period sets cut by his pal and once-and-future labelmate Sinatra. No wonder that his most recognized hit, the aforementioned and included "Ain't That a Kick in the Head," was actually cut at these sessions.

Riddle's expert ordering of the charts and direction of horns, strings, and piano equates to jazz and swing genius. Brass blows hard and strong during breaks, calm down for verses during which slinky 88s and swaying strings join the dance, and then rise up, the mix elegantly performed and irresistibly catchy. If you're not snapping your fingers and instantly transported to a swank nightclub within the first few passages of the opening "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me," check your system's setup.

Yet Martin is the real star. Hearing him handle such classics as the devotional "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," upbeat "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You," hopeful "Someday (You'll Want Me to Want You)," bluesy "You're Mean to Me," and clever "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" with such aplomb-and now, in such ravishing detail-will remind you why you love music, and why nothing of this ilk will likely ever be made again.

Martin convincingly conveys the mood each song demands, but a sense of optimism, playfulness, and feel-good romance pervade this stylish effort. If you are a fan of real singing and emotional crooning, you cannot live without this analog edition. A veritable gem.

    Holiday For Swing

Academy Award-nominated and Grammy-nominated writer, singer, actor, producer and director, Seth MacFarlane has recently completed his first-ever
Christmas album. Following his critically acclaimed 2011 debut, Music Is Better Than Words, and a 2013 Oscar Nomination for co-writing Everybody
Needs a Best Friend from Ted, the record will be available just in time for the holiday season via Republic
    Records.

Once again, MacFarlane teamed up with composer, arranger, and producer Joel McNeely. The album features a 52-piece orchestra recorded at the
iconic Abbey Road Studios and a bevy of London's premier players. Among the musicians in the orchestra were jazz legend Peter Erskine on the drums
and former Frank Sinatra bassist Chuck Berghoffer.

For the album, MacFarlane and McNeely cherry-picked both timeless holiday songs and lesser-known gems. MacFarlane slides from a warm,
introspective introduction with a vocal quintet into a bright, up-tempo swing in Let It Snow, and brings a new interpretation to the Lee Gordon rarity
Christmas Dreaming. Continuing a longtime friendship and creative partnership, Norah Jones joins him for Seger Ellis and Al Stillman's Little Jack Frost
Get Lost, while Sara Bareilles lends her powerful pipes to Frank Loesser's Baby It's Cold Outside.
