    Exile On Main Street

Ranked 7/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Upon its original 1972 release more than three decades ago, Exile on Main Street innovatively wove varying musical genres, instruments and even artists into a compelling rhythmic masterpiece. The 18-track double-album was recorded in various stages at multiple locations, including Olympic Studios in London, Keith Richards' mansion Nellcote in France, and in Los Angeles where the literal 'Main Street' influenced the album title. These atypical circumstances surrounding the recording process greatly affected the album's outcome which was highly reflective and influenced by the socio-political turbulence that marked the late `60s and early `70s.

The Stones nixed the influences of a flower-child era and directed their creative process with the edgier, excessive, more is more approach of the `70s. Exile reveals a sprawling mix of genres with undertones of blues, country, R&B and gospel mixed with lyrics that fervently demand for release and liberation.

The album pulled together an electric array of talent including Dr. John, the late Billy Preston, and pianist Nicky Hopkins. Guitarist Mick Taylor, who replaced Brian Jones in the band shortly before Jones died in 1969, is a magnificent blues player who brought an intensity and elegance to these epic tracks. At times, these musicians and others lived on the recording studio premises with the band creating an extremely open and creative collaboration for the album.

    Livin' In Exile

The band is called Blood for Blood, the album is called Livin' In Exile, they represent the East Coast and the release is on Victory. Without even listening to a note on this record, you already know what it's going to sound like. But for all those with their head in the clouds: hardcore in that metallic chugga-chugga sort of way with some hits of OI! and a blatant Slapshot influence -they're both from Boston after all. But what makes this stand out is a lack of cheesiness, testosterone -well, maybe a little bit- and bone headed lyrics. Even a Motorhead cover of Ace of Spades, but like they needed it to impress all the Victory Record followers.

    Music In Exile

Debut Album Produced by Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Marc-Antoine Moreau (Amadou & Mariam, K'naan)

Their deep attachment to the home grown songs and dances of the Songhoy, both traditional styles and the modern guitar based sounds popularised by the likes of Baba Salah and above all Ali Farka Toure, was helping shape their nascent music which sought to blend the trad and the modern, the homegrown and the foreign, the youthful and the ancient.

    Exile On Coldharbour Lane

We live in a sick, sick world where every problem seems to be answered with a bomb and a band like ALL SAINTS get widespread respect. It's corrupted and mangled on every level; enough to make people turn to the church. Yet when that turns out to be nothing but a hotbed of hypocritical farce and unholy allegations, it's time for a new religion. Time for THE VERY REVEREND DOCTOR D WAYNE LOVE and his band, ALABAMA 3.

They spread their word via acid beats, bluesy harmonica and country sensibilities - and the word is Love. On 'Hypo Full Of Love (The 12-Step Plan)', a satire on a Minnesota rehabilitation programme, the Glaswegian D Wayne evangelises like he never set foot outside Texas: Make a searching inventory of all your good shit/Inventory taken you hand all that good shit over to me.

The whiskey-smooth vocals of LARRY LOVE - part cowboy and part pimp - are at their best on a cover of JOHN PRINE's 'Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness'. It's 'Mao Tse Tung Said', though, that's their finest moment, vicious in its attack of the 'change must come through the barrel of a gun' slogan and intrusively, intelligently insidious. Forget Jesus. All you need is Love. - -NME

4 Trk Mind (Discontinued) (On Sale)

In this man are the traces of becoming. the display of veins strung into a multi-colored silhouette of a man born out of the electric dawn of the late seventies. Birthed from a songwriter father who struggled to unveil to his son the distortion world of drugs, song, and love, he discovered early that we are all in exile from one another. The boy grew up fascinated with the world of horror films, new wave pop, rap music, and graffiti. His spray paint fingers grazed dusty record sleeves, transformed a cheep home stereo into a mixer, and connected a young man with the current that changed his head. After years of journeying through sweat drenched undergrounds, and strobe light shadows, a man emerged. One who finds consolation in the fractal universe, one who has discovered love in a Technicolor death valley, and one who realized that those of the Diaspora of love can find community through song, he radiates wax for us. A man who is wired to the electric field of his past where he has loves and lost, and discovered the intervals of an off beat, kinetic world, he offers his songs as flesh, this music is an artifact of a man who shares his quantum of experience, who wants you to plug into his design, bridge the gap of our individual exiles, and discover the art of becoming electric through analog tape hiss.

    Rain Machine

Rain Machine is a startling new musical venture from Kyp Malone, known to many as guitarist/singer for soulful art rockers TV On The Radio. For Rain Machine, Malone takes the influences that have always bubbled beneath the surface in TVOR; blues, gospel, 60s jazz, even African music, and brings them to the fore. Performing all the parts himself, Malone has fashioned a deeply personal journey through modern life, looking back on the weight of the history behind us. The result is a communiquÉ from the soul, if the Rolling Stones stripped away the glitz to find their emotional core on Exile on Main Street, then Malone has performed the same rite here, in all its murky, mercurial glory. Rain Machine will surprise some TVOR fans, stun others, but all will be transported by this dense, spiritual music. Produced by Ian Brennan (Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Lucinda Williams, Jonathan Richman).

Rat A Tat Tat (On Sale)

Mixed by Robbie Lackritz (Feist, Jamie Lidell), Rat A Tat Tat was recorded and produced in Toronto by the duo of Carlin Nicholson and Michael OBrien. The pair comprise one half of Collett's label mates, Zeus, whose members have performed as Colletts backing band since the 2005 release of his acclaimed Idols of Exile album. Rat A Tat Tat is the follow up to his widely praised 2008 release, Heres To Being Here and is an achievement on many levels. The album attributes to, and trumpets the energy of an exciting and burgeoning Toronto creative arts scene of which Collett, highly regarded as a prolific songwriter and performer, finds himself at the very center. Rat A Tat Tat shows Collett using the Canadian backdrop to further explore his roots as a national storyteller (Lake Superior, Winnipeg Winds, High Summer) and his knack for articulating the subtleties of human interactions and experiences (Cold Blue Halo, The Slowest Dance). As well, he dives headfirst into the passions and struggles of relationships (Rave On Sad Songs, Love Is A Chain). Rat A Tat Tat is a remarkable and honest example of a storyteller documenting and soundtracking his experiences and surroundings with distinct and precise ability.

    Old Rottenhat

    Limited Edition

    Only 2000 Copies Made

Its far too easy to abuse the phrase living legend, but when used to describe Robert Wyatt, youre in no danger of hyperbole: gifted songwriter; political activist; drummer in the Canterbury jazz/prog pioneers Soft Machine and contemporaries of the original lineup of Pink Floyd; collaborator with the likes of Brian Eno, David Gilmour, Phil Manzanera, Fred Frith, Paul Weller, Scritti Politti, Elvis Costello and his beloved wife Alfreda Benge, to name but a few.

Perhaps his greatest gift though is his voice, a reedy instrument of great warmth and emotion; one need only hear his interpretation of the classic Shipbuilding (a song that was written for him by Costello and producer Clive Langer) and you shall be smitten for life. Domino is incredibly honored to be releasing a near-complete re-issue series of Roberts solo recorded works in the form of these limited edition LP+CD versions. Each title is limited to 2000 copies. There will be only one pressing so, once these are gone, they are gone for good.

Despite the desolate and somber nature of the subject matter of its songs Old Rottenhat has a steely sparkle at its heart. Played almost entirely by Wyatt himself, the record captures the sound of an artist in self-imposed exile brimming with melodic purpose. Often setting his voice with echo against languorous synth drones, the record confirms Wyatt has a DNA that can't help but achieve a sense of depth, grace and beauty.

    Hard Times And Nursery Rhymes

Legendary Punk Rock Band's 1st Studio Record Since 2004

Group Embraces Gritty, Soulful Currents on Can't-Miss Set

Social Distortion's first new studio record in nearly six years, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes builds on singer Mike Ness twin footings, one in the haunted American landscapes of Hank Williams and the other in the raw swagger of Exile On Main Streetâ€era Rolling Stones. While these twin pillars have always been behind Social Distortions anthemic songs, on Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes they come roaring to the fore, in one of the hardest rocking, most soulful albums of Ness career.

From opener California (Hustle and Flow), a song with enough attitude to redline a 40 Merc, to the dark rockin cover of Hank Williams' Alone and Forsaken, longtime fans will find the trademark punk roar they love. New fans, too, will be drawn to Ness maturing songwriting and vocals with an eye to his rock and roll legacy. Ness also produced Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (his first time at the production helm).

Cigar-puffing hoodlums, sleazy pimps, staggering winos, down-and-out blue-collar stiffs, on-the-run hustlers, wounded romantics, and spurned lovers are among the crowds that congregate on the street corners of Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, one of the most consistent, complete, soulful, and tunefully gritty records of Social Distortions career. The set reflects the groups progressive embrace of organ into arrangements. As such, subtle spiritual undercurrents coarse through several tunes.

    Hollywood Forever

Formed in 1986 at the height of the Sunset Strip metal explosion, L.A. Guns has become one of the Golden State's great musical dynasties, stretching into its fourth decade and showing no signs of fading. The band's first 3 albums are celebrated as definitive expressions of the no holds barred, melodic metal that consumed Hollywood and the nation in the late '80s and continues to find new audiences, generation after generation. Through numerous line-up changes and a wildly shifting musical landscape, the group has survived and thrived by staying true to the ethos and sound that earned the group its legion of dedicated fans.

It's been 7 whole years since the last L.A. Guns studio album, 2005's Tales From The Strip, but that long wait is about to end with the release of Hollywood Forever, the band's newest effort and perhaps their best yet! With vocalist Phil Lewis at the helm, this album draws on the group's greatest strengths including the propulsive drumming of longtime Gunner Steve Riley, the gigantic riffs of virtuoso guitarist Stacey Blades and the solid grooves of bassist Scotty Griffin. Add into the mix one of rock music's most celebrated producers, Andy Johns (The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St., Led Zeppelin's IV), and this band is ready to once again conquer the Sunset Strip!

    Texas

In a year when overproduced rock-fluff flooded radio
waves, Texas-Sudden's 1986 solo debut for Creation-
blasted through the saccharin for a damaged and masterful
invocation at the imperfect alters of Chilton and Bolan,
sonic influences the Brit bore proudly on his velvet sleeve
throughout the course of his polarizing prolificacy. As the
increasingly splintered Rolling Stones cultivated "Harlem
Shuffle" cover cheese, the former Jacobite leader looked
to the ragged Exile On Main St. and Sticky Fingers roots
of his icons for a raw, 12-song predication melding tender
jangle and staggering swagger. Widely considered Sudden's
solo magnum opus, Texas is an exquisite mÉlange of the
    off-kilter sub-terrestrial songwriter.

In founding Swell Maps, the post-punk prefacing
Birmingham art-snots, Nikki Sudden and his drumming
brother Epic Soundtracks charted new territory for racket
and corrosive guitar. But after folding Swell Maps at the
dawn of the '80s, Nikki Sudden plowed through another
decade's worth of terrifically fertile ground. Drawing on
his devotion to the Rolling Stones and T. Rex-alongside
guitarist Dave Kusworth as Jacobites, plus a cheekily named
cohort of British sidemen-Nikki Sudden cut a string of
raw, inspired rock 'n' roll records, etched with double-edged travel melancholia and hard-bitten punk dejection.

In conjunction with the 10 year anniversary of "Witness", Deathwish announces a complete revamping of this seminal album. Along with a spectacular remastering job by Brad Boatwright at Audiosiege, packaging has also been drastically improved. For the first time ever, the vinyl version is presented in a Deluxe Gatefold Jacket w/ a 12"X12" 28 Page Booklet. It also includes additional liner notes from listeners worldwide.

Recorded by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, Witness is not only musical progression for the band, but artistic perfection. Witness is their true story of real life struggle in contemporary rural America. As importantly, Witness is also their artistic journey into the soul of personal rebellion. An introspective gaze into the bitter exile of their own lost generation. Lyrically captivating, musically discordant, and soulfully haunting, Both the crowning achievement and well worn scar we all long to artistically create. Saying the words that we all wished we could say, in the name of the pain, beauty, and the hardship of living.

The carefully put together 120 page limited edition book recounts the making of this classic Stones album with an extensive essay by Nick Kent, embellished with previously unpublished images of the band and lavishly illustrated with metallic gold ink throughout.

Sticky Fingers, one of the most revered albums in the storied catalogue of the legendary Rolling Stones, is set to enthral a new generation of admirers. The 1971 classic - which captured the band at the absolute peak of their powers, on timeless tracks such as 'Brown Sugar,' 'Wild Horses,' 'Bitch,' 'Sister Morphine' and 'Dead Flowers'.

Sticky Fingers was recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Stargroves, Mick's country home and Olympic Studios in London, and produced by regular confidant Jimmy Miller, Sticky Fingers was released shortly after the Stones became exiled in the south of France, leaving Britain after a sensational farewell tour. It also featured some of the most ground breaking artwork in rock history by Andy Warhol, with its famous working zip on the front cover.

Sticky Fingers has been repeatedly hailed as one of the Stones' all-time great albums, capturing their trademark combination of swagger and tenderness in a superb collection. It continued the incredible outpouring of creative energy that had produced 1968's Beggars Banquet and Let It Bleed in 1969. After Sticky Fingers, the Stones' relocation to the south of France led to the double album masterpiece Exile On Main St. The highly acclaimed Sticky Fingers showcased the ever more inventive song writing of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and formidable guitar licks from Mick Taylor.

The Super Deluxe edition will also house Get Yer Leeds Lungs Out!, the 13-track audio recording of the Stones' gig in Leeds in March 1971, shortly before their 'exile' in France began. The set included versions of the just-completed 'Brown Sugar,' 'Bitch' and 'Dead Flowers,' one of their many authentic forays into country music territory.

The first sessions that led to Sticky Fingers took place as far back as December 1969, in the remote location of Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, Alabama. The band then reconvened, back home in the UK both at Olympic and with the Rolling Stones Mobile parked up at Mick Jagger's Stargroves home.

On April 23, 1971, 504 days after that first session in Alabama, Sticky Fingers was released, cheered on by media and public alike. "It is the latest beautiful chapter in the continuing story of the greatest rock group in the world," wrote Rolling Stone.

    Elwan

For the last five years, Tinariwen have been busy criss-crossing the globe bringing their
triumpant tours to all five continents and expanding their audience. During this time their
beloved homeland in the Adrar des Ifoghas, a Saharan mountain range that straddles the
border between north-eastern Mali and southern Algeria has, in effect, been transformed
into a conflict zone, a place where nobody can venture without putting themselves in danger.
These conflicts have forced the band into exile to record their 8th album, Elwan.

Elwan means 'the elephants ' - an animal metaphor to describe those 'beasts', whether
militias or multinational consortiums, who have trampled everything in their path: in the
desert, where both the human and ecological equilibriums are extremely fragile.
Tinariwen chose to record this album is several locations around the world, including for 4
days at the desert hideaway of Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, CA, the studio
known as a favored refuge for many an eclectic artist from Queens of the Stone Age to
Daniel Lanios to Arctic Monkeys to Iggy Pop and more. For Tinariwen, the geographical
location of the studio proved to be particularly propitious in terms of creativity. And the
human climate was just as favorable.

A few friends dropped in during the sessions to add some magic to a few tracks including,
Kurt Vile (electric guitar), Mark Lanegan ( Vocals on 'Nànnuflày'), Matt Sweeney (electric
guitar) and producer/guitarist, Alain Johannes (Cigarbox guitar). Sessions were also
recorded in Morocco, where the band were accompanied by local musicians, in a land
where they are considered musical legends.

Lovers of those sensual yet abrasive riffs that are Tinariwen's signature won't be disappointed.
But neither will those who love their funky, danceable side, which comes through
loud and clear. All that potential has been wonderfully honed by the album's mixing engineer
Andrew Schepps, known well for his work with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Johnny
    Cash, and Jay Z.

    Spirit Of Malombo

Following the label s acclaimed Next Stop Soweto compilation series, Strut returns to the rich music heritage of South Africa for another landmark compilation celebrating the influential and heavily political music of drummer Julian Bahula since the mid- 60s with the Malombo Jazz Makers, Jabula and Jazz Afrika bands. Bahula s first group was the Malombo Jazzmen, led by guitarist Philip Tabane with flautist Abbey Cindi and they broke the mould, introducing indigenous malombo drums alongside guitar and flute to create a strong new cultural jazz fusion. In 1964, the group took the Castle Lager jazz festival by storm, South Africa s biggest annual jazz event. Within a year, Bahula and Cindi had parted company with Tabane, and guitarist Lucky Ranku had come on board to form the Malombo Jazz Makers. By the end of the 1960s, they had established themselves as South Africa s foremost afro-centric jazz group. In 1971, they made a clandestine tour of South Africa with Steve Biko and TECON (Theatre Council of Natal) Players, using music and theatre to promote black awareness and identity as part of Biko s Black Consciousness message. As the pressure of apartheid started to bear down on them, Julian Bahula escaped to political exile in the UK. He settled in London in February 1973 following a tour with white afro-rock band Hawk. Joined by Lucky Ranku shortly afterwards, Bahula formed a new afro super-group, Jabula, through which malombo music was transformed into a vehicle that could take a powerful political message from South Africa to audiences in Europe and across the world. The band worked closely and selflessly with the exiled ANC, the Anti-Apartheid Movement and other anti-apartheid organisations to help spread political awareness. Bahula and his wife Liza also started London s first regular night to promote live African music at London s 100 Club during the 80s. In 83, they set up the first concert in the UK to raise awareness for Nelson Mandela, African Sounds , an event that helped to kickstart the international pressure that would lead to Mandela s release in 1990. The Specials Jerry Dammers was there and was inspired by Jabula s track Mandela to write the huge hit for The Special AKA, Nelson Mandela . Spirit Of Malombo documents Bahula s incredible musical journey from 1966 to 1984 for the first time. Package includes rare photos, poster artwork and memorabilia with extensive sleeve notes from author Francis Gooding. The cover features a still from leading South African photographer, Ernest Cole.

    Waiting A Lifetime

Splashh was formed in 2012 by friends Sasha Carlson and Toto Vivian. The pair have been making music together since they were teenagers in the suburbs of Australia, which to be fair, was only a few years ago.

Their debut album, Comfort, recorded entirely on their own with a home studio in their London flat, was released in 2013 to critical acclaim. With praise from NME, BBC, CLASH, The Guardian, Clash, Drowned in Sound, Q, and many other tastemakers, the band hit the road in support of the album touring extensively through the UK, Europe, America and Australia.

In 2015, the band divided themselves between London and New York City, for a time of "self-imposed exile to write." The idea being that the time apart, and the different influences of the two cities, would bring a new dimension to the music. With the addition of new members, and the production skills of Nicolas Vernhes, (War on Drugs, Deerhunter, Dirty Projectors) the sound that this creative time had cultivated has been beautifully captured on Waiting A Lifetime, their sophomore effort, to be released on by Cinematic Music Group in early 2017.

"When we first went in the studio, we had a different idea of how we wanted the record to sound," says Vivian. "We had been sitting with the demos for 3 years, so we had an idea of what we thought the album should sound like. When we went into the studio with Nicolas, we started fresh and tore the songs apart. It was a lot of fun to experiment and take it as far as we could. It was liberating."

Adding another layer to the album is the band's aesthetic. The album artwork is by artist Lucien Smith, who created original works of sculpture he then photographed for the band to use. The first round of press photos is by drummer Zachary Chick.

"It's fast and in your face. Loud, but also pretty," says Toto. "The whole record has a lot to offer. If people like 'Rings' then I think they will love the record or not :)"

    Some Girls

Ranked 269/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Stones' Classic Remastered on 180 gram LP

Universal Music Group and The Rolling Stones present the remastered version of their groundbreaking 1978 album, Some Girls, which introduced the band to a whole new generation of fans. Justly considered one of the finest works by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood, Some Girls topped the US charts over three decades ago and remains the best selling album of their storied career.

Some Girls is the Rolling Stones' most direct and diverse collection of material from Mick Jagger's irresistible falsetto on the four-on-the-floor filler Miss You, their eighth U.S. #1, to the country-flavored Far Away Eyes via the Chuck Berry meets punk snarl of Respectable. And let's not forget the sensuous, Beast of Burden, one of Keith Richards' finest tunes, which reached #8 on the U.S. singles chart, the garage rocker Shattered, the albums' third U.S. Top 40 entry, and the soulful swagger of the group's version of The Temptations' Just My Imagination, another timeless offering in their canon of classic Stones Motown covers.

Following the critical praise and commercial success afforded the re-mastered, expanded editions of Exile On Main Street, which matched the chart performance of the epochal 1972 album, and returned the Rolling Stones to their rightful place at the top of the British charts in 2010, the extensive reissue of Some Girls constitutes the next step in the band's ongoing relationship with Universal Music Group.

Some Girls holds a special place in the history of the Rolling Stones and demonstrates why they remain one of the most thrilling and influential bands of all time. The 1978 album features the Keith Richards' classic Before They Make Me Run, a signature song he still performs defiantly to this day. Some Girls documented Mick Jagger's love of 1970's funk reflected in Miss You, the dance track that wrong footed many people, made the club and black charts, and made it okay for other mainstream acts at the time to 'go disco'.

The 1978 album also courted controversy because of Jagger's tongue-in-cheek lyrics on the title track, on Miss You and on Respectable, perceived as a retort to the punk and new wave groups who had borrowed so much attitude and copped so many anti-establishment moves from the Rolling Stones. Ironically, the furor around the elaborate Some Girls package, designed by Peter Corriston and featuring the band members in drag, a nod in the direction of the picture on the 1966 single Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow? and likenesses of Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe that hadn't been legally cleared, necessitating a swift withdrawal and rethink.

Some Girls demonstrated the distinctive and definitive riffing from Keith Richards, with its abundance of unstoppable licks and majestic power chords driving the band into its brand new musical direction. This album not only defined him and his playing, but also defined a new era for the Rolling Stones, with Richards since described as a sense of renewal. Some Girls marks the only other time since recording Satisfaction where Richards used an effects pedal to 'elevate' the sound.

The album cemented the position of guitarist Ronnie Wood, who had joined in 1975, and added his trademark slide and pedal steel playing to several of the album's most memorable tracks, including When the Whip Comes Down and Shattered. He also co-wrote the Shattered B-side Everything Is Turning To Gold. Some Girls also marked a move to the Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris for the Glimmer Twins production team of Jagger and Richards. These factors helped what is arguably the group's most focused and dynamic album, driven by the sans pareil rhythm section of drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman.

Some Girls featured fewer guest musicians than any Rolling Stones album since 1971, but the contributions keyboard-player Ian McLagan, Wood's bandmate in The Faces, saxophone-player Mel Collins, and harmonica player Sugar Blue (discovered busking on the Paris metro), made Miss You in particular sound brighter than ever.

Thirty-three years on from its original release, the re-mastered vinyl edition of Some Girls shows exactly why the 1978 album has often been hailed as the equal of Exile On Main Street. The album stands as both a time capsule and a timeless listen and it features the band at their tightest and toughest, at their most vibrant and vital.
