The fifth studio album by the American punk rock band The Ramones. It was released on February 4, 1980 and was produced by Phil Spector. After Spector became interested in the band, he offered to produce their next record. Vocalist Joey Ramone was an avid fan of Spector's early work, including albums by many girl groups and Let It Be by The Beatles. Road To RuinRoad to Ruin shows a more classic pop sound as well as a shift to a more serious personality to the music, a theme that would remain in later albums, most notably the band's fifth album End of the Century (1980). The influence of 1960s girl groups is evident, as well as the influence of The Byrds on tracks including Don't Come Close and the cover of Needles and Pins, originally by Jackie DeShannon and later a hit for The Searchers.1. Tales From Topographic OceansTales from Topographic Oceans is the sixth studio album from the English rock band Yes, originally released as a double album on 7 December 1973 by Atlantic Records.
Yes is among the longest lasting and most successful of the '70s progressive rock groups, proving to be one of the lasting success stories from that musical genre. The band, founded in 1968, overcame a generational shift in its audience and the departure of its most visible members at key points in its history to reach the end of the century as the definitive progressive rock band. Where rivals such as Emerson, Lake & Palmer withered away commercially after the mid-'70s, and Genesis and King Crimson altered their sounds so radically as to become unrecognizable to their original fans, Yes retained the same sound, and performed much of the same repertoire that they were doing in 1971, and for their trouble, found themselves being taken seriously a quarter of a century later. Their audience remained huge because they had always attracted younger listeners drawn to their mix of daunting virtuosity, cosmic (often mystical) lyrics, complex musical textures, and powerful yet delicate lead vocals.1. The Making OfThe Bohicas debut album The Making Of lands blow after blow. A barrage of killer hooks, razor blade riffs and choruses that slap you in the face, grab your hand and lead you onto the dance floor. All shot through with pulp imagery torn from the pages of a graphic novel. Their story begins in Essex where as schoolmates they first came together over a love of The Beatles, The Kinks, Ray Charles and the new wave of guitar bands who emerged at the start of the century after the scrag ends of Britpop had finally limped off. The album was was produced by Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club), Chris 'Merrick' Hughes (Tears For Fears, Adam And The Ants) and Oli Bayston (Toy, Boxed In). SONM-LEG-3315xElectric Light Orchestra
TimeTime was the last truly great album from the Electric Light Orchestra, released as their world-conquering fame was starting to ebb. A concept album (a brave undertaking in 1981), Time has a space-age theme and is set at the end of the 21st century. What's most remarkable is how all this science-fiction silliness is salvaged by the exuberant playing. Yours Truly, 2095 uses a number of ELO's hallmarks--a catchy synth riff, sweeping strings, and over-the-top production--to tell a tale of a man in love with a robot; the album's highlight, it should have been a hit single. The epic Twilight and Hold on Tight--which practically bounces along like an overexcited puppy--also stand among ELO's finest works. --Robert Burrow1. Prologue

Beethoven: Triple Concerto in CFerenc Fricsay conducts the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and pianist Geza Anda, violinist Wolfgang Schneiderhan and cellist Pierre Fournier on a performance of Beethoven's Triple Concerto in C major, Op 56. 180g vinyl pressing from Clearaudio.
The widespread interest both in the technical capabilities of solo instruments and in the symphony, whose formal outlines became established toward the end of the 18th century, accounts for the popularity at that time of "concertante symphonies" in which several solo instruments (strings, wind) combined to oppose the orchestra. Despite the popularity, Beethoven was correct when he wrote about his Triple Concerto "that a concertante with these three solo parts is something new."
The novelty lay in the usage of this connection with the piano. The difference between the piano's method of tone production and that of the other instruments alongside the piano's "mechanics" resulted in tonal problems. These problems arose both within the solo trio and in its relationship to the orchestra. Beethoven, who was interested throughout his whole career in experiments to extend the scope of instrumental music, here combined the styles of chamber music and of concertante symphonic writing to great effect.

The Age of FractureThe long-awaited new album from CYMBALS is named after a book by Princeton academic, Daniel T. Rodgers, which addresses the fragmentation of ideas towards the end of the last century and how collective meanings have become uncertain. Singer and guitarist Jack Cleverly writes: It hit me that I often feel paralysed by the feeling that everything is 'too complicated', and that many people I know feel that paralysis. I realised that this way of thinking can be traced through these songs. Produced by Dreamtrak (Swim Deep, Chad Valley, Hot Chip) in his Hackney studio and written collectively over the last 12-months, the group have taken their time to carefully piece the album together, song-by-song, in sequence. The album was completed following a final mix from Daniel Rejmer (Foals, Everything Everything) and the result is testament to the band s attention to detail: a cleaner, brighter sound than their brattier early recordings, edging towards the European sophistication of the end-of-the-century French house Jack grew up around. Singles 'Like An Animal', 'The End' and 'The Natural World' are characterized by an upbeat disco cool and all push the 7-minute mark, whereas Winter 98 , This City , and Call Me are brooding, stark synth-led numbers reminiscent of early-New Order, with some lyrics sung in Jack s native French. The literary inspiration runs further through the album. The track The 5% , more obviously making reference to the themes of the album's namesake, declares Time can be erased, you re stupid if you try and stay in place, over a pulsing bassline and swirling electronics. Like an Animal is inspired by the intellectual and moral confusion of the main character in Thomas Mann's The Magic Mountain. The album has even garnered literary responses of its own by British poet and novelist Joe Dunthorne, author of Submarine. I told Joe about the book and the way the album was kind of a reaction to it, and he threw my rationalisation of it back at me through a short story inspired by the album. says Cleverly. It helped reveal the emotional territory of the songs. He showed me how I had been dividing things up artificially - desires and priorities, getting older and not being able to stop writing music... Through the writing of this album, CYMBALS have inevitably matured. We've never been in it just for a laugh, says Cleverly; but things got confused when we said we wanted to keep it fun we just didn't want to end up bitter, having chased a hollow dream. But this album is less about us; it's more outward looking, more aware of the world at large. Despite the weighty literary influences, the band are keen to separate themselves from the over-earnestness that can sometimes accompany such associations. I hate the whole 'serious earnest-singer-songwriter-thing, says Jack. With this album I really wanted to get away from that and make music that makes people want to dance and feel joy. Neil's kick drum is the most important thing we have to say as a band. Is this all fun? Yes, of course, but at the same time, not just that. Produced by Dreamtrak & mixed by Daniel Rejmer.1. Sky SwallowerHailing from the small town of Plaistow, New Hampshire, VATTNET VISKAR is anything but small. Formed in the fall of 2010, the band has quickly risen amongst the ranks of US black metal acts.
VATTNET VISKAR's brooding take on blackened atmospheric doom metal perfectly mirrors their organic approach to their craft. Following a well received two-song demo in 2011, they then released a self-titled EP that was met with praise from both fans and the press alike. Stereogum listed it as one of the best releases of 2012 while Pitchfork proclaimed "on their debut EP they had me hooked in a matter of seconds and salivating by the end of its 27 minutes. It's an assured offering for such a young band."
Not content to keep their blackened-doom alchemy confined to the studio, however, they back it up with a thundering live performance. Having already shared the stage with such titans as BLACK ANVIL, INQUISITION and WOODS OF YPRES, they have left their mark up and throughout the US with a seemingly endless string of shows, including at stop at last year's SXSW festival, playing three shows throughout the event.
Soon after, the band started working on their Century Media debut album, Sky Swallower. Picking up right where their EP left off, the album features 8 songs of crushing, yet ambient tracks. The songs are punishing, yet soaring. Press is already calling it one of the best albums of the year, making Vattnet Viskar one of the biggest buzz bands around.1. New Alchemy

III: Beneath Trident's Tomb (Awaiting Repress)Throughout its tumultuous existence, Twilight has struggled to define just what it was. Actually, it's been the public struggling to define the band. Black metal supergroup? The members would scoff at this. Originally started by N. Imperial (Krieg), Wrest (Leviathan, Lurker Of Chalice), Malefic (Xasthur), Blake Judd (Nachtmystium), and Hildof (Draugar), one would argue this being the ultimate kult supergroup. Their debut album was recorded by mailing cassette tapes back and forth between the members. Shortly after it was released, they announced they broke up. They never played a show and never planned on it.
Almost 5 years later a second album was announced, as was new members. Monument To Time End saw Sanford Parker (Minsk, Corrections House), Stavros Giannopolous (The Atlas Moth), and Aaron Turner (Isis) brought into the fold. The Twilight lore started to grow even stronger when it was rumored that Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) had joined the band. Moore had mentioned in interviews his taste for USBM and though mutual friends, was put in touch with Parker. A few months later the band recorded III: Beneath Trident's Tomb. III is much more of an experimental album than its predecessors. It is a dark, uncomfortable listen.
Twilight have already announced that they are breaking up, and that Judd, one of the founding members, is absent from the album. In the end, Twilight's legacy will be shrouded in mystery and debate. But whatever Twilight is - band, project, or collaboration, they have undeniably released some of the most unique albums in the underground ever and III will cement their legacy and further define what American Black Metal is and can be.1. Live With IntronautFor years this was asked on various message boards across the internet. This author posed the same question after a friend from Columbus sent a link saying "this is from a guy around here who gives away his music for free". This was before that was a cool thing to do. This was before Bandcamp. This was before "pay what you like" was a phrase.
Every now and then a new record or EP would appear online. There was no label 'hype machine', no build up, no marketing, just great music and word of mouth. The mystery grew and eventually Cloudkicker was tracked down.
Cloudkicker is Ben Sharp, a one-man project hailing from Columbus, Ohio. He gave short interviews here and there, pieces were put together; he had a day job, music was for fun, he does everything on his own and he'd never tour or never work with a label.
Credit Los Angeles post-prog metallers, Intronaut for helping break one of his statutes. In early 2014 it was announced that Cloudkicker would tour North America with none other than Intronaut as his backing band.
It was either Sacha (Dunable, Intronaut vocalist/guitarist) or Dave (Timnick, Intronaut guitarist) or both who floated the idea of using Intronaut as Cloudkicker's band. I thought it was a nice gesture but didn't really take it seriously since I figured there wouldn't be any way to make a live show happen given the distance between us and my work schedule that has me traveling 3-4 days a week. Fast forward to this past fall when they came through Columbus again and we spent the evening discussing what the realities of a tour like that would be. It was definitely a fun topic to discuss, but moreover I was impressed by their genuine excitement to maybe, one day, have the opportunity to do this. And the fact that they are musicians of such caliber and professionalism made it obvious that there would be no problems handling the music and translating it to a live show with minimal time in the same room rehearsing it, so long as I provided them with appropriate materials with which to prepare.
That he did and at the tail end of March, 2014, Sharp played his first show as Cloudkicker with Intronaut as his backing band in his hometown. A month of shows followed and luckily enough, the guys found time to enter a studio in Texas and record the set live.
With Intronaut being tied to Century Media Records, another one of Cloudkicker's statutes was broken. Cloudkicker's Live With Intronaut will be released on 11/25 through Century Media, marking the first time ever prog's most enigmatic artists will find his records available to retailers and in stores. Back To The FrontExplaining the relevance and influence of ENTOMBED is probably as superfluous as pointing out why Slayer rule, Lemmy is bigger than God and Dio the greatest loss in metal history. A legend is a legend. Fullstop. F**k off!
If you still require a proper explanation that is less shot from the hip, well let us start with this: The Swedish Death Metal forefathers and genre innovators have inspired tons of bands all around the globe with their invincible trademark sound. However, as the band's last album "Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" dates back to 2007, there is definitely more than a good reason for a bit of catch-up and ask why it took so long to finish the band's superb 10th opus, programmatically titled "Back To the Front", vocalist extraordinaire L-G Petrov states:
""Serpents " was a fairly good album but a little weak compared to previous works and the distribution wasn't that great yet we continued playing shows throughout the past years but never really got going with new songs. At some point we decided that it was time for a new album, so we sat down and played riffs that we had from before as well as many new riffs and started putting them together which really sparked our motivation. That really gave us a push! We feel that this is the best album so far in many years and I think you can hear it on the album!"
Thematically, the will and determination to back up such words with fantastic songs is reflected in the powerful album title and part of the concept of the record as guitarist Nico Elgstrand describes:
"A lot of the album is about being at war in different ways and struggles/shortcomings of mankind, so we felt that "Back To The Front" fitted really well. It has a military reference obviously and we also feel like a platoon (ha ha, a small platoon) that has been behind the frontlines for a long time anxious to get back into battle. Not mean and lean but rather fat and bored and really keen on getting back to what we do best, which of course is to kill! Metaphorically speaking needless to say, ha ha. Also it is a very direct way of saying we've been away for way too long, we know and that we will now aim to stay at the front until the friggin' battle is won! The cavalry has finally arrived if you will (without horses though, ha ha)!"
Well spoken, Sir, yet expectations will be incredibly high on this one as ENTOMBED's roots and legacy goes way back into the year 1987 when they formed under the name NIHILIST. In 1989 the formation changed its name to ENTOMBED and together with Morbid (for whom singer LG played drums), Treblinka/Tiamat, Grave and Dismember, ENTOMBED/NIHILIST established themselves among the earliest bands to forge the immortal Swedish death metal sound that became really popular and unique due to its punkish roots and especially that chainsaw guitar sound, today inseparably linked to terms like "Skogsberg", "Sunlight Studio" or just "Stockholm sound". Inspired by such diverse acts as Autopsy, Motörhead, Discharge or Kiss, over the years ENTOMBED did not shy away from thinking outside of the coffin resulting in a style some fans called Death'n'Roll but in the end it was, is and will be just a band with a style and impact entirely their own.
So, what awaits the listener on "Back To The Front"? Produced by Roberto Laghi (In Flames, Hardcore Superstar) at Studio Bohus (Abba, Europe) in KunÄlv, it's 666% true to the ENTOMBED everybody loves. While not falling for total regression back to the early classics "Left Hand Path" or "Clandestine", it is a total bone-crushing opus that will have fans of all periods cry tears of joy and even the most stubborn fan of the early days join in shame. "The goal was to have riffs that felt fresh and exciting, to make an album that felt old school as well as fresh and up to date, showing who ENTOMBED are today," L-G puts it quite simply and Nico continues: "I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I find it super hard to pick 2 or 3 songs as the best of it, because i really like 'em all. I think that they all have something new and fresh yet it feels very old school in some way. "Kill To Live" with its surprising ENTOMBED-intro turned out very cool and the track also has an almost cinematic yet classic metal feel to it, dunno why, but it just invigorates me. "Second To None" kinda makes me wanna drive a tank while listening, and that to me is how proper metal should sound! It makes you wanna do mighty things so to speak!"
From the morbid, pissed-off lyrics over detuned, massive riffs to the inimitable brick-heavy groove and LG Petrov's titanic roar, "Back To The Front" not only musically but also visually with its stunning painting by Necropolitus Cracoviensis Zbgniew Bielak II (Watain, Ghost, Vader) seems to send a respectful nod to the old school as L-G confirms: "The skull will always be a part of ENTOMBED. I totally agree, we have taken away some of the rock parts and gone with more metal, and I think fans new and old will appreciate that."
With European touring under way in December with label mates and black metal genre leaders WATAIN - vocalist Erik actually penned lyrics for the song "Carnage" (from "When In Sodom" EP, 2006) - and former band member Nicke Andersson contributed parts to the new song "Vulture And The Traitor", the Swedish metal platoon ENTOMBED anno 2013 has all its weapons polished and reloaded and is ready to shatter the entire music scene with an uncompromising full frontal assault. So, let us all enjoy "Back To The Front" and celebrate the fact that the legend called ENTOMBED has finally returned. Goddamn!1. Kill To Live

The Wild Hunt2nd Pressing Of This 2013 Black Metal Breakthrough
Pressed On 180 Gram Black Vinyl
2xLP Gatefold Sleeve

Watain are Swedish black metal band from Uppsala, formed in 1998. The Wild Hunt, originally released in August of 2013, it's the most important album of their career. Unique. And ambitious. It put them in a league of their own and emancipated beyond their genre peers. With mixing duties handled by the faithful Tore Stjerna at the famous Necromorbus studio in Alvik (Sweden), "The Wild Hunt" marks another gigantic achievement and most importantly once again ups the ante compared to WATAIN's extremely well received previous releases.
By far, it is their most diverse record to date and vocalist E. is adamant about "each album bringing a story on its own. There's never been a question of continuing wherever we ended with the previous one." So if to some the opening instrumental 'Night Vision' picks up nicely where 'Waters of Ain' left off on "Lawless Darkness" and the album's first single 'All That May Bleed' has classic WATAIN written all over the place, these eleven songs offer plenty of devilish surprises. The trio (rounded up by P. on strings and H. on drums) has never ever compromised their sound nor their vision to "mainstream black metal" and "The Wild Hunt" is another vivid proof of that. This sonic and lyrical tour-de-force explores the band's classic roots like Bathory or Dissection ("being quite a retrospective record, that record is permeated by things that meant a lot to us in the past so no reason to try to hide them") while also being truly their own. And who else than WATAIN could have come up with such an intimate song like 'They Rode On' where for the first time they dare using clean vocals? "I piss on those so-called artists who adapt themselves in order to reach bigger audiences. The main reason why we achieved all that we did is that we never betrayed our initial vision, not because we ever pretended to write more 'accessible' music. That specific song is just us being brutally personal and honest. It shows another important facet of the WATAIN world."LP 1

Something Wicked This Way ComesAfter the success of The Dark Saga, many were curious to see what steps Iced Earth would take to further elevate their position within the metal scene. There were many expectations about the new album, and of course, Iced Earth did not disappoint. They turned out yet another acclaimed album containing something old, something new, and most definitely something wicked. With thirteen tracks, Something Wicked This Way Comes is a roller-coaster ride which showcases Iced Earth's talent in many different forms. Ranging from the crushingly dark and heavy Disciples of the Lie to the heartfelt and introspective Watching Over Me, Something Wicked is bound to please both longtime fans and new listeners. The highlight of the album is another album-ending trilogy, entitled Something Wicked. Taking some musical cues from the Stormrider era and merging them with the newest Iced Earth sound, Something Wicked weaves a mysterious tale of prophecy, conspiracy, and the history of mankind. This powerful composition is a prelude to a future Iced Earth album, but even on its own, it stands as a masterful piece of work. To any metal fans who feel a void in their collection, it will be filled the day that Something Wicked comes to you.LP 1

After nearly three dedicated decades, Schaffer, drummer Brent Smedley, vocalist Stu Block, bassist Luke Appleton, and new guitarist Jake Dreyer have assembled the fiercest Iced Earth record since 1996 milestone The Dark Saga and 1998's chart-blazer Something Wicked This Way Comes.
Titled 'Incorruptible', Iced Earth's 12th record is inspired not by things political but by things personal. Since Plagues of Babylon landed in 2014 to heaps of praise and chart-topping success, Schaffer and team have weathered proverbial storms. Management shake-ups, Schaffer's well-publicized and very serious neck surgery-he's since fully recovered-and lineup shifts all played positively into Incorruptible. But that wasn't always the case.
Written primarily by Schaffer over the course of several months - a process he calls "typical"- Incorruptible finds Iced Earth pivoting off everything they've learned-going all the way back to 1990's Iced Earth-to come away with an album that feels and sounds superlatively heavy metal. And definitely like Iced Earth.
From the Viking-inspired power of opener 'Great Heathen Army' to the epic pirate-inspired 'Black Flag' to the aggression of 'Seven Headed Whore', based on the Whore of Babylon, Incorruptible bestows upon its listeners a ceaseless supply of killer riffs, a cavalcade of righteous vocals, a storm of drums, and continuous volleys of jaw-dropping solos.
Certainly, after 27 years of releasing albums and 666 minutes-or thereabouts-of music, the multi-national band, with Schaffer at the helm, show no signs of slowing down, getting old, or venturing off the deep end.
With a new lineup reconfigured, a newly completed Iced Earth headquarters to call home, a new record in ready for hails and headbangs, all powered by Schaffer's indestructible drive and infinite engine, it's clear Iced Earth are making 2017 their banner year. Songs like 'Clear the Way', 'Black Flag', 'Raven Wing', 'Ghost Dance (Awaken the Ancestors)', and 'Great Heathen Army' are destined for the halls of heavy metal greatness. In fact, Incorruptible is special. A contemporary classic. A legendary record barely out of the gate. It just feels like a record of import.1. Great Heathen Army

Corelli: Concerto Grosso No. 8 (Speakers Corner)
The musical press has showered praise upon the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester and its founder and conductor Karl MÜnchinger for their spectacular performances. This DECCA recording now presents a delightful choice of works performed by this South German ensemble.
The programme opens in a splendidly festive Baroque spirit with Arcangelo Corelli's famous Christmas Concerto, a work which is typical for the concerto grosso form with its alternation of tutti and solo passages. The instrumental soloists in particular dazzle with their finely chiselled playing and ravishing tone over the gentle sway of the strings. MÜnchinger has achieved a veritable miracle with his arrangement of Johann Pachelbel's Canon, originally composed for the organ, for each and every instrument of the orchestra enhances the magic of this music. Carlo Ricciotti's Concertino No. 2 offers us an insight into the various musical forms of the early 18th century.
The programme ends with Christoph Willibald Gluck's vigourous Chaconne whose splendour and pomp is taken to new dramatic heights by the Stuttgarter Kammerorchester.
Light a candle and settle down for a delightful evening of entertainment: this excellent recording ensures that you will enjoy every minute to the full - and not just at Christmas time.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.Corelli: Concerto Grosso No. 8 / Pachelbel: Canon / Ricciotti: Concertino No. 2

This 1958 3-track recording has Heifetz teamed up with Munch and the Boston Symphony. Cutting the lacquer directly from the original session master tapes has increased the transparency and 3-dimensional imaging on this reissue over original pressings. The performance, as always with the last century's top violinist, is almost without compare. If you have an original copy (white or shaded) you'll be shocked - this reissue has diaphonously beautiful string tone, superior low end dynamics and very deep bass.1.
