Our Version Of EventsOur Version of Events is the debut album by Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli SandÉ. The album was released on 13 February 2012 by Virgin Records, following SandÉ's winning of the Critic's Choice Award at the BRIT Awards 2012. Though Our Version of Events is her first release, SandÉ has been active in the industry since 2009, most notable appearing on singles by Chipmunk (Diamond Rings) and Wiley (Never Be Your Woman). The album features R&B and soul music. SandÉ began working on the album when she was eleven years old.
SandÉ began working with Alicia Keys for the album, and for Keys' upcoming album. She also expressed interest in working with Nicki Minaj on the album. Naughty Boy was a major collaboration with SandÉ from the day she began creating music professionally. Mike Spencer, Paul Herman and Professor Green also got involved with the production of the album. She wrote every track on the album, saying that the key to a good song when writing is using honesty and raw emotion. Upon the release of the album, SandÉ's vocal ability has been compared to the likes of Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, BeyoncÉ and Annie Lennox. Tracey Chapman, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell and Lauryn Hill are all major influences for her album. Madonna also expressed interest in SandÉ's music.
Heaven was released in August 2011, as the first single from the debut album, the song charted at number-two on the UK Singles Chart and later became an international success, charting within the top-ten in many European countries. SandÉ released Read All About It with Professor Green in November 2011, which resulted in her writing Read All About It (Pt. III). Daddy was released in November 2011, which charted at number twenty-one on the UK Singles Chart, however the single also became an international success. Easier in Bed, a non-album promotional single was released onto iTunes in December 2011. Next to Me was the third single released, which became a global hit. Entering the UK Singles Chart at number-two and the Irish Singles Chart at number-one. My Kind of Love was released as the fourth single from the album in June 2012 and appeared on The Voice UK in order to promote the single. Upon release of the album, the album debuted at number-one on the UK Albums Chart and remained at the top spot for five non-consecutive weeks. the British Phonographic Industry certificated the album 2× Platinum, making it the fastest selling album by a British recording artist since Susan Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream in 2009.
The album also debuted at number-two on the Irish Albums Chart.
A re-release of the album occurred on 22 October 2012 including three new tracks, a remix and a cover of Imagine (originally by John Lennon), replacing SandÉ's version of Abide with Me. Wonder (a song credited as Naughty Boy featuring Emeli SandÉ which is featured on the US version of the album) is the lead single of the re-release. It also serves as the lead single from collaborator Naughty Boy's album, Hotel Cabana. In September 2012, Our Version of Events became the best-selling album of 2012 in the UK overtaking Adele's 21.1. Heaven

Long Live The AngelsLong Live The Angels is a mesmerizing journey through the triumphs and tragedies of the last four years of Emeli SandÉ's extraordinary life. Exultant in its delivery and bold in its intent, the record is steeped in an unreserved sense of freedom and self-discovery. It will be released on November 11 via Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company.
It's from that feeling of freedom that new single "Hurts" was born, an uplifting track brimming with heart and soul. "This entire album is about me not holding back and not censoring myself, and 'Hurts' is an explosion, it's just real talk," explains SandÉ. A lot has happened to SandÉ in the four years since the resounding success of her critically acclaimed number one record, Our Version Of Events. Not only was it the biggest selling album of 2012 and second biggest selling album of 2013 in the UK, but it was also certified 7x platinum, spent seven non-consecutive weeks at No.1 and exceeded The Beatles' previous record by spending 63 consecutive weeks in the top 10 and selling over 4.6 million copies worldwide.
The multi-instrumentalist initially made her mark as a songwriter in the UK urban scene via acts such as Wiley, Wretch 32 and Chip, later becoming a highly sought-after writer for a wide array of international acts including Alicia Keys, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. As 2013 came to a close, SandÉ was exhausted and unable to ignore the strain it was putting on a number of close relationships, "Sounds a bit dramatic but I just wanted to disappear. I just had this overwhelming sensation and realization everything had to stop," she reflects, "And then slowly it did."
Recorded in New York, L.A, London, and Oxford, Long Live the Angels crackles with energy and a sense of euphoria for both listener and artist. Certain tracks may be slower in spirit, but are dynamic in delivery, "I made sure the production wasn't overworked," Emeli points out, "And I really went for it vocally!" SandÉ's outstanding voice sits at the heart of the record, underscoring the singer's mastery of both technique and form but also her natural intuition as a vocalist. Opening track "Selah", a short poem backed by a choral choir sets the tone, written solely by SandÉ during a time of reflection; it's a powerful and poignant introduction to the album.
Next up is the sensational "Breathing Underwater", which SandÉ describes as "the ultimate journey in rebirth and self-discovery." The super stripped back "Give Me Something" is a wondrous take on keeping the faith despite the odds being stacked against you, and the beautifully melodic Shakes is a piano and strings-led masterpiece. "Garden" harks back to SandÉ's urban roots, written and produced in London with Jay Electronica, who also features on the track. It's a reminder that Emeli's influences are as much R&B and rap as they are singer/songwriter. "Lonely" is a long hard look at love and has the feel of a track made on a summery late sixties afternoon. "Sweet Architect" (Johnny Coffer and Mojam) is the show-stopping centerpiece punctuated by the most remarkable choir.
Towards the close of Long Live the Angels, we witness a jubilant SandÉ experiencing the hopes of new possibilities; "Every Single Little Piece" is a stirring mid-tempo ballad, with a huge chorus and soul-stirring strings and the uplifting "Highs & Lows" is a dedication to her family, her history and her heritage.
Long Live The Angels marks a brand new chapter in SandÉ's life, "I'm proud of my first album and thankful for the experiences it gave me. But I'm so much happier with my new album and with where I am in life."LP 1

Black Radio, Volume 2On their 2012 breakout Black Radio, Robert Glasper Experiment laid out a new paradigm for creative music, reaching beyond entrenched genre boundaries to create a singular vision that drew from all reaches of contemporary black music and beyond. Black Radio drew unanimous praise from critics across the board and earned Glasper the highest chart positions of his career when the album debuted at #10 on Billboard's Top Current Albums chart, also claiming the #1 spot on both the Billboard Jazz chart and the iTunes R&B chart. The album kept earning accolades all the way to the 2013 GRAMMY Awards where Black Radio was awarded Best R&B Album.
In 2013, RGE ups the ante with the release of Black Radio 2 (Blue Note), another genre-defying effort that takes the Black Radio blueprint and builds to even greater heights. The core remains the Experiment, as astoundingly versatile a band as has ever existed, featuring Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums, and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone. Providing the vocals throughout is another jaw-dropping roll call of vocalists including Common, Patrick Stump, Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Luke James, Emeli SandÉ, Lalah Hathaway, and Malcolm-Jamal Warner.
On Black Radio 2, the emphasis is on songwriting with 11 of the 12 tracks new originals, from the soaring lead track "I Stand Alone" featuring rapper Common and vocalist Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy through Jill Scott's sensual ode to connection "Calls" to the reinvention fantasy "Somebody Else" featuring BRIT Award winner Emeli SandÉ. The lone cover is the album closer, a spine-tingling version of Stevie Wonder's "Jesus Children of America" by vocalist Lalah Hathaway that also features a poignant spoken word tribute to the 20 young victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting by poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The album was produced by Glasper along with executive producers Nicole Hegeman and Eli Wolf.1. Baby Tonight (Black Radio Intro)

Sirens Of SongA purveyor and survivor of Britpop (with band Squeeze), solo artist, author, and television presenter, Jools Holland is prominent as one of British music's most recognized and trustworthy.
A couple of years back, Holland's talent for composition was refreshed with 2012's The Golden Age Of Song, a star-studded effort. Holland must have had the itch to repeat that highly successful and pleasant experience, only this time around he's kept it between him and the ladies. What emerges is 14 tracks of originals and reworked gems starring some of the best female voices in the business.
What Holland nails here are his choices of leading ladies for each track, which offer so much in the way of delightfully surprising and sublime covers. Jamaican songstress Ruby Turner sasses up Ray Charles' Jumpin' In The Morning, our own pop princess Kylie Minogue puts her pout to The Clash's Should I Stay Or Should I Go, and Emeli SandÉ admirably takes on 1920s standard Love Me Or Leave Me. Among the standouts, though, are Louise Marshall's A Vow, a poem by one of Holland's favourite English poets, Wendy Cope; Joss Stone's soulful attack in Letting Me Down; and the playful ska in Monkey Man, brought to life by the late, great Amy Winehouse.
Holland's orchestra never falters, nor do the man's fingers on the ivories, and running throughout is a vibrant sense of celebration for not only these skilfull lasses but for the sheer act of making music with many different talents.
