I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: An Album By Earl Sweatshirt

I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside: An Album by Earl Sweatshirt is the second studio album by American rapper Earl Sweatshirt.

On his first studio album, 2013's Doris, the most mysterious member of L.A. shock-rap gremlins Odd Future proved himself by exploring real-life alienation. On his excellent second LP, Earl Sweatshirt keeps deepening his game - spooling out dense, mordant rhymes over zombifically blunted tracks as he somehow sucks you into his sunless reality. It's amazing that music so claustrophobic can be this engrossing.

As always, Sweatshirt is most compelling when he's going toe to toe with his own demons. I spent the day drinking and missing my grandmother, he raps on Huey, perfectly summing up the music's desolate vibe. Mantra opens with some maniac grandstanding (With a cleaver and a .30 and some twisted weed/I pick one and let the crimson leak), then slides into a downhearted breakup song. Grief is a harrowing shut-in snapshot: I just want my time and my mind intact/When they both gone, you can't buy 'em back. At just 10 songs in a half-hour, I Don't Like Shit is surprisingly concise - even if it's sometimes dark and paranoid enough to make There's a Riot Goin' On sound like the Three's Company theme. And who needs more? Even a half-hour with Earl is enough to leave you with a lifetime of creepy memories.

    Doris

Doris is the debut studio album by Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt. It follows his first mixtape Earl, which was released in 2010 when he was sixteen. After returning from a forced stay in a Samoan boarding school, he began working on his debut album and signed a deal with Columbia, rather than Odd Future's Odd Future Records.

Doris features guest appearances from Odd Future members Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, Tyler, The Creator along with Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, RZA and Mac Miller. Production was primarily handled by Sweatshirt under the pseudonym randomblackdude and production duo Christian Rich. Additional production was provided by Matt Martians, The Neptunes, RZA, Samiyam, BadBadNotGood, Frank Ocean, and Tyler, The Creator. The album was supported by three singles; Chum, Whoa featuring Tyler, The Creator, and Hive featuring Vince Staples and Casey Veggies.

    The Genius Of Earl Hooker

Earl Hooker was an incredible slide guitarist residing in Chicago during the 1950s and '60s. Hooker split his time between his birth place on the Mississippi Delta and his adopted home of Chicago were he played with the likes of Ike Turner and Sonny Boy Williamson. The Genius of Earl Hooker, his exceedingly rare Cuca Records release, circa '67 finds him laying down instrumental blues at its best!

    Earl Meets Harry (Pure Pleasure)

Leave it to European labels like Black & Blue to come up with inspired pairings of musicians who American labels never seem to get around to considering. This 1978 meeting between pianist Earl Hines and trumpeter Harry 'Sweets' Edison is a match of masters, covering tunes they had likely performed hundreds of times in their respective careers. Everything seems to gel in the opening track, a strident take of I Cover the Waterfront, with plenty of trills by Hines in support of Edison's brilliant open horn. Edison adds a mute for an exquisite, deliberate take of Just Squeeze Me and a sauntering But Not for Me. Hines' dancing tenths come to the forefront in their romp through Just You, Just Me".
There is nothing like two veterans at the top of their game joining forces for a record date.

    Musicians:

    • Harry "Sweets" Edison (trumpet)

    • Earl Hines (piano)

Recording: April 1978 at Studio Sinus , Berne (Switzerland), by Peter J. Mac Taggart

    Production: Johnnie's/Alberto Tognetti

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Live From Austin, TX (Steve Earle) (On Sale)

This show, his first appearance on Austin City Limits, captures the excitement and free spirit of that first seminal album, Guitar Town, which was nothing less than a collection of personal odysseys. He was certainly a musical renegade from day one, and that's one thing about him that hasn't changed. This performance displays the vintage Steve Earle sound that paved the way for a new generation of country rockers willing to buck the Nashville system.

    Townes

Steve Earle's new album, Townes is his highly anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning album Washington Square Serenade. The 15 song set is comprised of songs written by Earle's friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt.

The songs selected for Townes were the ones that meant the most to Earle and the ones he personally connected to. Some of the selections chosen were songs that Earle has played his entire career (Pancho and Lefty, Lungs, White Freightliner Blues). He learned the song (Quicksilver Daydreams of) Maria directly from Van Zandt and taught himself Marie and Rake specifically to include here. Earle recorded the New York sessions solo and then added the other instruments later on in order to preserve the spirit of Van Zandt's original solo performances to the best of his recollection. The track Lungs, was produced and mixed by the Dust Brothers' John King and features Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, The Nightwatchman) on electric guitar.

I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive

Steve Earle is set to release Ill Never Get Out Of This World Alive via New West Records. The album is the anticipated follow up to the Grammy Award winning 2009 release Townes. The 11- track set was produced by T Bone Burnett and is Earles first collection of original material since his 2007 Grammy Award winning, Washington Square Serenade.

Writing for Ill Never Get Out Of This World Alive began three years ago, the longest span of any song cycle in Steve Earles career. The first two compositions were God Is God and I Am A Wanderer, two songs written by Earle for Joan Baez 2008 album, Day After Tomorrow (which Earle also produced). The album also includes the celebrated song This City, written for the HBO Original Series, Treme, which Earle also appeared in as an actor. This year, Earle will be reprising his role of Harley during many episodes of Tremes second season.

This City features horn arrangements by Allen Toussaint and has garnered a Grammy Award Nomination in the Best Song Written for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media Category. Additionally, the song also garnered Earles first Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics Category. Ill Never Get Out Of This World Alive also features Heaven or Hell, a duet with Earles wife, the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Allison Moorer.

    So You Wannabe An Outlaw

So You Wannabe an Outlaw, Earle's first album for Warner Bros. Records since 1997's El Corazón, explores his country songwriting roots and features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Johnny Bush, and Miranda Lambert.

"There's nothing 'retro' about this record," Earle says. "I'm just acknowledging where I'm coming from." So You Wannabe an Outlaw is the first recording he has made in Austin, TX. Earle has lived in New York City for the past decade. "Look, I'm always gonna be a Texan, no matter what I do," he says. "And I'm always going to be somebody who learned their craft in Nashville. It's who I am."

So You Wannabe an Outlaw is an homage to outlaw music and is dedicated to the late Waylon Jennings. "I was out to unapologetically 'channel' Waylon as best as I could," Earle says. "This record was all about me playing' on the back pick-up of a '66 Fender Telecaster on an entire record for the first time in my life. The vocal part of it is a little different. I certainly don't sound like Waylon Jennings. I moved to Nashville in November of 1974, and right after that Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger came out. I was around when Waylon was recording Dreaming My Dreams. Guitar Town (Earle's 1986 chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning debut album) wound up being kind of my version of those types of songs," Earle recalls.

Earle is backed on So You Wannabe an Outlaw by his long-time band The Dukes - guitarist Chris Masterson, fiddle player Eleanor Whitmore, bassist Kelly Looney, and new members drummer Brad Pemberton and pedal steel player Ricky Ray Jackson. The album was produced by Richard Bennett and recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin.

    Kids In The Street

Kids In The Street is the 7th and latest album from American roots troubadour, Justin Townes Earle. After marrying, moving to various corners of the country and continuous touring with both full band and solo, Earle made time to reflect on the past few years and find new clarity. With Kids In The Street, he made a conscious decision to work with a producer for the first time in his now decade-long career. Earle made the trip to Omaha, Nebraska to work with Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, M.Ward, Connor Oberst) at ARC Studios. Together, they handpicked musicians to create a new sound and environment for the songs that speaks to Justin's roots, musically and personally. This creative collaboration, paired with Justin's longtime guitarist Paul Niehaus, has resulted in an album that takes a big step forward.

Comprised of 10 tracks, Absent Fathers was recorded alongside Single Mothers as a double album, but as Justin began to sequence it, he felt each half
needed to make its own statement and they took on their own identities. Single Mothers was released on September 9, 2014 via Vagrant Records. Combined with Absent Fathers, the double album perfectly showcases exactly why Justin Townes Earle is considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana.

    Single Mothers

After two and a half years since his last release, Justin Townes Earle is back and pleased to announce his fifth studio album (and first ever on Vagrant
    Records), Single Mothers.

Single Mothers is comprised of ten tracks that showcase exactly why Justin Townes Earle is considered a forefather of Contemporary Americana. As a
recently married, sober man JTE writes from a point of maturity and content we've not seen before on past records. "One day I just realized it's not cool to
die young, and it's even less cool to die after 30," Justin laughs as he reflects on a life past and his new found clarity. What he's created is an album that's
raw, honest and personal in a way he hasn't touched upon since his debut EP, Yuma.

Once compared to a man who wears many suits JTE has experienced more than most, both personally and professionally, in thirty-two short years.
Between releasing four full-length-critically-acclaimed albums, constant touring, multiple stints in rehab, being born Steve Earle's son, amicable and not-so-amicable break-ups with record labels, and facing the trials and tribulations of everyday life, it's safe to say JTE has quite the story to tell. Single
Mothers serves as the perfect platform for such narrations.

The set-list includes seven numbers from Copperhead Road, four from its predecessor Exit 0, two from Guitar Town and a track from the rare 1982 Pink & Black EP. Opening the show was blind blues guitarist Jeff Healey who also joined The Dukes on stage for the final three numbers. Recorded live at the Cotton Club in Atlanta, Georgia on December 17, 1988.

    Train A Comin'

"Train A Comin" the 1995 release by Steve Earle was his first album since the "The Hard Way" five years earlier. Steve returned to basics on this all acoustic record with help from Peter Rowan, Norman Blake, Roy Huskey, and Emmylou Harris. "Train A Comin'" finds Steve mixing some of his older material written decades before, such as "Mercenary Song", with choice covers of the Beatles "I'm Looking Through You", Townes Van Zandt's "Tecumseh Valley" and The Melodians reggae classic "Rivers Of Babylon". A critical and fan favorite "Train A Comin'" is a gem and one of the best albums of Steve's career. Issued for the first time ever on vinyl with a double sided insert.
