    In The Right Place

Dr. John, or Mac Rebennack as known to friends and family, is universally celebrated as the living embodiment of the rich musical heritage exclusive to New Orleans. His very colorful musical career began in the 1950s when he wrote and played guitar on some of the greatest records to come out of the Crescent City, including recordings by Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Joe Tex and Frankie Ford. A notorious gun incident forced the artist to give up the guitar and concentrate on organ and piano. Further trouble at home sent Dr. John west in the 1960s, where he continued to be in demand as a session musician, playing on records by Sonny and Cher, Van Morrison and Aretha Franklin to name a few. He also launched his solo career, developing the charismatic persona of Dr. John The Night Tripper. Adorned with voodoo charms and regalia, a legend was born with his breakthrough 1968 album Gris-gris, which established his unique blend of voodoo mysticism, funk, rhythm & blues, psychedelic rock and Creole roots. Several of his many career highlights include the masterful album Sun, Moon and Herbs in 1971 which included cameos from Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger and 1973's In The Right Place, which contained the chart hits Right Place Wrong Time and Such A Night.

No. 404 On Rolling Stone's List Of 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time!

200-Gram Vinyl Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original
    Analog Tapes!

Deluxe Tip-On Jacket From Stoughton Printing!

Dr. John's Gumbo is the fifth album by New Orleans singer and
pianist Dr. John, a tribute to the music of his native city. The album
is a collection of covers of New Orleans classics, played by
a major figure in the city's music.

Dr John's Gumbo was released in 1972 and is in many ways a
tribute by Dr. John, aka the Night Tripper, to his hometown New
Orleans. It features excellent interpretations of New Orleans traditionals
("Iko Iko", "Tipitina", "Junko Partner" and "Stack-O-Lee")
and contemporary R&B written or played by the likes of Huey
Piano Smith ("Blow Wind Blow" and "Huey Smith Medley") Earl
King and Earl Gaines ("Big Chief", "Let The Good Times Roll" and
    "Lonely Lonely Nights").

Dr. John delivers a strong set of infectious songs drenched in
good vibes and spiced with a pinch of voodoo. His eccentric
(stage) appearance adds unique color to his stature as master of
the ivories and as an entertainer.

This great album receives the full Analogue Productions reissue
treatment here, starting with Kevin Gray's remaster from the original
analog tapes. Then we back that up with 200-gram plating
and pressing on super-silent vinyl by our own Quality Record
Pressings. Finally it's all housed in a tip-on gatefold jacket from
Stoughton Printing. Deluxe all the way; you'll be ecstatic with
    the results!

Dr. John A.K.A. The Night Tripper is a singer, songwriter, voice actor, pianist, and guitarist, whose music combines Blues, Pop, Jazz, Zydeco, Boogie Woogie and Rock & Roll.

Active as a session musician since the late 1950s, he gained a cult following in the late 1960's following the release of his album Gris-Gris and his appearance at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive music. He performed a wildly theatrical stage show inspired by medicine shows, Mardi Gras costumes and voodoo ceremonies. This eventually resulted in his signature 'voodoo' music style.

The Sun Moon & Herbs is described by Allmusic as dark and swampy and best listened to on a hot, muggy night with the sound of thunder rumbling off in the distance like jungle drums.

The centerpiece of the album is Familiar Reality, a long cut based on one evil-sounding Stones-type riff. As usual, Dr. John's strength lies in his galvanizing; mesmerizing choruses. The ones on Black John the Conqueror and File Gumbo are unforgettable.

    Exile On Main Street

Ranked 7/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Upon its original 1972 release more than three decades ago, Exile on Main Street innovatively wove varying musical genres, instruments and even artists into a compelling rhythmic masterpiece. The 18-track double-album was recorded in various stages at multiple locations, including Olympic Studios in London, Keith Richards' mansion Nellcote in France, and in Los Angeles where the literal 'Main Street' influenced the album title. These atypical circumstances surrounding the recording process greatly affected the album's outcome which was highly reflective and influenced by the socio-political turbulence that marked the late `60s and early `70s.

The Stones nixed the influences of a flower-child era and directed their creative process with the edgier, excessive, more is more approach of the `70s. Exile reveals a sprawling mix of genres with undertones of blues, country, R&B and gospel mixed with lyrics that fervently demand for release and liberation.

The album pulled together an electric array of talent including Dr. John, the late Billy Preston, and pianist Nicky Hopkins. Guitarist Mick Taylor, who replaced Brian Jones in the band shortly before Jones died in 1969, is a magnificent blues player who brought an intensity and elegance to these epic tracks. At times, these musicians and others lived on the recording studio premises with the band creating an extremely open and creative collaboration for the album.

    Anutha Zone

For those of us who long for the days when Dr. John smeared himself with face paint, wore impossibly large headdresses, and sang about gris-gris, gumbo ya-ya, and croker courtbullion, Anutha Zone is indeed a heartening development.

In the late 60s Dr. John was a visionary musical alchemist, working with psychedelic imagery and funky rhythms to nab the rock crowd, then plying them with spooky swampland mythology and raw Southern R&B.

On Anutha Zone, Dr. John digs deep into that murky musical well once again, with stunning results. John Gris, Party Hellfire, and Soulful Warrior brilliantly fuse slow-burn grooves, sly musicianship, and Dr. John's elegantly gruff vocals, conjuring images of dark revelry down French Quarter back alleyways. This was the comeback of 1998, hands down.

The Music On Vinyl re-issue also contains the insert with a beautiful picture of the mystic man and credits information.

    Locked Down

Storied musician and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dr. John (aka Mac Rebennack) releases Locked Down, a startling album that marks a significant departure from his recent efforts. The new album, produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, is Dr. John's first for Nonesuch Records.

Its an entirely new approach for the iconic Dr. John, featuring as it does his collaboration with Auerbach and a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make Locked Down at his studio Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. It was way cool cutting this record with Dan and the crew he put together for it, says Rebennack. It's reel HIP.

For his part, Auerbach says about the collaboration: Mac inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically, something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, Mac's one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be, I'm so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.

Auerbach, a long-time fan of the influential musician, dubbed the Night Tripper in the late 60s, visited Dr. John late in 2010 in his hometown of New Orleans, announcing his ambition to produce the best record you've made in a long time. Rebennack replied that he had done his research, his children had told him good things about The Black Keys, and the conversation led to an agreement to collaborate on the 2011 Bonnaroo Jam being curated by Auerbach.

That performance, called by New York Times critic Ben Ratliff in his best-of-the-year list deep and oozy, close-to-the-vest, low-frequency funk, confirmed that something unusual was taking place and led to September recording sessions in Nashville. Dr. John returned to Nashville at Thanksgiving to complete the vocals and Locked Down was mixed by Auerbach and completed in early 2012.

    Traffic From Paradise

200-gram super silent pressing from Quality Record Pressings!

Never before released as a vinyl LP in the U.S.

From the moment she first appeared in front of us on Saturday Night Live in 1979, Rickie Lee Jones has challenged her listeners and the establishment with an absorbing musical vision that defies border and classification. She rocked the culture of singer-song writerdom with her refusal to conform to the stayed and careful eloquence of the folk rock generation that came before her. Neither punk nor pop, she tottered on a thread of her own device, jazz - the old musical kind, and R&B - the Motown thread that permeates her work.

Her self-titled debut album, released by Warner Bros. in March 1979, had an immediate and profound impact in the music world and the culture at large ultimately becoming a multi-million selling hit. Jones secured five Grammy Award nominations, including Best New Artist, which she won at the January 1980 ceremony. She won a second Grammy in 1989 for Best Jazz Performance for her duet with long time pal Dr. John on Making Whoopee.

Traffic from Paradise, released in 1993, features contributions from Leo Kottke, David Hildago and Jim Keltner among others. Now it's being reissued by Analogue Productions as an LP in the U.S. for the first time in its history.

    Performance: Rockin' The Fillmore

Featuring Dead-Quiet Surfaces, This Wax Cathedral LP is Pressed at RTI, America's best record plant!

At the turn of the 1970s, Humble Pie rivaled Led Zeppelin as the biggest blues-rock band in the world. Performance: Rockin' the Fillmore demonstrates why. Capturing the group at the height of its powers, the live set smokes with outlandish energy, virtuosic interplay, rhythmic might, and blistering grooves. Guitarist Peter Frampton and vocalist Steve Marriott use their individual star power to complement rather than compete with one another, while the remainder of the band follows suit with similar intensity.

Soaring on the strength of Frampton's struck-by-lightning melodies and Marriott's soulful high-pitched deliveries, Humble Pie personifies classic 1970s hard rock throughout this set, defined by zealous reinventions of songs by Willie Dixon, Ray
Charles, and Dr. John. The group appropriates the classics as its own, with twin guitars harmonizing and harmonicas blowing, the original arrangements extended and reshaped, the band members pushing each other at every turn. That Frampton departed shortly after this San Francisco concert makes this album all the more memorable.

Remarkable, too, are the two epic workouts, one a 23-minute-plus jam on Dr. John's "I Walk on Gilded Splinters"-listen for the sound of the bottle dropping at the beginning-and the other an inventive perusal of Muddy Waters' "Rollin' Stone" that
closes with a boogie-based rendition of "My Babe." Frampton, Marriott, and Co. were never as good as they are here.

Music sounds better on vinyl. Especially when it's experienced on new pressings from RTI, America's finest record plant. Introducing Wax Cathedral, an imprint focused on reissuing great albums on LP, complete with dead-quiet surfaces and authentically replicated artwork. Wax Cathedral goes where few other labels dare, restoring titles from diverse genres, myriad eras, and recognizable artists beloved by generations of listeners. Twelve Dreams Of Dr. Sardonicus

Spirit's 1970 classic Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus (produced by longtime Neil Young collaborator David Briggs) is widely acknowledged as the band's magnum opus. The fourth and final collaboration by the band's classic original lineup of Randy California, Jay Ferguson, Mark Andes, John Locke and Ed Cassidy, the 12-song set reflects the quintet's one-of-a-kind mix of talents and personalities. Spirit's unique musical vision is reflected in their trademark hit Nature's Way, which remains a staple of classic rock radio, along with such favorites as Prelude-Nothin' to Hide, Animal Zoo, Mr. Skin and Morning Will Come.

Out of print on vinyl for more than two decades, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus has been meticulously restored to its original two-sided glory for this LP reissue, using Sundazed's usual exacting standards. American Tunes

Nonesuch releases American Tunes, a new studio album by legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint. Toussaint had just completed the album when he passed away in November of last year during a European tour. Recording took place at two sets of sessions with producer Joe Henry: solo piano at Toussaint's New Orleans home studio in 2013, and with the rhythm section of Jay Bellerose and David Piltch-joined by guests Bill Frisell, Charles Lloyd, Greg Leisz, Rhiannon Giddens, and Van Dyke Parks-in Los Angeles in October 2015. The album comprises solo performances of Professor Longhair tunes and band arrangements of songs by Toussaint, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Paul Simon, and others.

Allen Toussaint's work as composer, producer, arranger, and performer, especially in the 1960s and '70s, helped shape the sound of R&B, soul, and funk as we know it today. He collaborated memorably with artists ranging from Lee Dorsey and Ernie K. Doe to the Pointer Sisters and Labelle, from the Meters and Dr. John to the Band and Paul McCartney. The New York Times recently said, In Mr. Toussaint's long career as songwriter, arranger and producer he has honed a piano style that's supportive and allusive; a little trill or tremolo sums up all the splashy joys of New Orleans patriarchs like Professor Longhair and James Booker, and a syncopated chord under right-hand octaves summons gospel. Mr. Toussaint has the two-fisted, rippling vocabulary of the city's piano legacy, but he uses it in dapper ways.

Toussaint's children, Alison Toussaint-LeBeaux and Clarence Reginald Toussaint, who have long served as their father's managers, said of the American Tunes album, Our father approached this project with great care and understanding of the songs selected and paid true homage to Professor Longhair, his musical hero. He wanted to bring as much of the Toussaint touch as he could to these wonderful classics.

Nonesuch previously released The Bright Mississippi in 2009. Also produced by Henry, the record includes songs by jazz greats such as Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and Billy Strayhorn. The album received tremendous critical praise, with the Boston Globe saying it couldn't sound more like New Orleans. (Toussaint) revisits jazz classics and takes them for a stroll through Preservation Hall, imbuing his own funky brand of pop-song charisma. The results are coolly sophisticated, an unfussy, mostly instrumental set of slink-and-slide joints shot through with a harmonic imagination that turns even a traditional hymn into an after-hours swing Toussaint's musical soul guides all, making the classics sound like his own.

That project indirectly grew from Toussaint's contributions to Our New Orleans, the benefit album that Nonesuch released in fall 2005 to aid hurricane victims in the wake of the Katrina disaster. That collection opens with a version of Yes We Can Can, the Toussaint song the Pointer Sisters made famous, newly recorded with producer Joe Henry, and it included a solo piano piece, Tipitina and Me, co-written by Toussaint in tribute to Professor Longhair.

Joe Henry had first worked with Toussaint when he invited the pianist to join the sessions for I Believe to My Soul, a studio convocation of mature R&B stars. Henry subsequently acted as producer on Toussaint's post-Katrina collaboration with Elvis Costello, The River in Reverse. He describes the most recent sessions: I have been working with Allen Toussaint-under his spell and subject to his influence-for a full decade now. He was a quiet radical, musically-speaking, and a prince of great humility.

Over 50 years since his discovery by ethnomusicologists Dr. Harry Oster and Richard Allen in the prison farm of Angola, Louisiana, what is it that makes the blues as sung and picked by Robert Pete Williams such a singular listening experience, unequaled elsewhere in that musical form? As Peter Guralnick, in his Feel Like Going Home book writes: "It's difficult to approve the banalities of most blues singers after listening to Robert Pete Williams. More than anyone else he shatters the conventions of the form and refuses to rely upon any of the clichÉs, either of music or of lyric, which bluesman after bluesman will invoke. Instead he sings blues which reflect a unique and personal vision; he makes each song unmistakably his own."

Unfamiliar keys, clichÉ-free lyricism, spontaneity, an individualistic style in invoking his particular blues, all make Robert Pete Williams an idiosyncratic entry into the canon. It's impossible to listen to blues artists before him and hear strains of his particular style. None have matched it since. Louisiana Blues contains 10 songs recorded in the month of July 1966 out in Berkeley, California for John Fahey's Takoma imprint.

Chappo was born in the East Village of New York in 2009 and in a few short years has created an enthusiastic and rambunctious following. Splitting the difference between the guitar driven psychedelia of 60's west coast rock and the spiritual witch doctor moonshine of Dr. John, they regularly turn their live show into nothing short of spectacle.

    James Bond: Dr. No Soundtrack

The Dr. No Soundtrack to Ian Fleming's 007 James Bond film of the same name was originally issued in 1963, although the film was released in June 1962.

Dr. No is the original soundtrack for the first James Bond film of the same name.
Composer Monty Norman was selected by producer Albert R. Broccoli after Broccoli backed a musical of Norman's Belle or The Ballad of Dr. Crippen written by Wolf Mankowitz, a frequent collaborator with Norman and an original screenwriter for Dr. No. Norman accompanied the producers and film crew to Jamaica.

The original James Bond Theme was written by Norman. John Barry, who would later go on to compose the music for eleven Bond films, arranged the theme, but was uncredited - except for the credit of his orchestra playing the final piece. It has occasionally been suggested that Barry, not Norman, composed the theme. This argument has been the subject of two court cases, the most recent in 2001.Some portions of the theme are, however, based on music Norman composed for a stage musical several years previously.

The soundtrack album of Dr. No was not originally issued to coincide with the film's initial release in October 1962. However, in addition to his fee for orchestrating the James Bond Theme, Barry was allowed to perform a different orchestration of the theme on Columbia Records. This became a top ten hit in the U.K. The soundtrack album came out after the U.S. release of Dr. No in June 1963 with American single recordings of The James Bond Theme by Al Caiola and Leroy Holmes on United Artists Records and Si Zentner on Liberty Records. In addition to Barry's orchestration of the James Bond Theme several of the album's tracks were performed by Byron Lee and the Dragonaires who appear in the film performing Jump Up. The song Under the Mango Tree was performed by an uncredited Diana Coupland, Norman's wife at the time, backed by Ernest Ranglin on guitar. Ranglin also played on several other tracks. Other musicians to record for the soundtrack included Carlos Malcolm. None of the Eric Rogers-orchestrated tracks appear on the soundtrack album.

    Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde

A key transitional touchstone in The Byrds' fabled canon, 1969's Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde
was the next stop in the band's pioneering country-rock trajectory and the first album by
the post-Gram Parsons lineup. With leader Roger McGuinn at the helm of a stellar new
edition of the band featuring guitar god Clarence White, drummer Gene Parsons, and
bassist John York, Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde sees The Byrds bridging the gap between the
psychedelic flights of the group's mid-'60s albums and the down-home, country-based
style developed only months earlier with Sweetheart of the Rodeo.

In addition to containing strong McGuinn originals (King Apathy III, Old Blue),
more of the band's beloved interpretations of Bob Dylan classics (This Wheel's on Fire
and a medley blending The Bard's My Back Pages' with Jimmy Reed's Baby, What You
Want Me to Do), and even a Gram Parsons collaboration (the bemusing Drug Store
Truck Drivin' Man, which cleverly celebrates The Byrds' love of country music while
simultaneously taking a dig at small-minded rednecks), Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde also boasts
two tracks composed by McGuinn for the obscure, racy '60s cult movie Candy.

Mastered from the original Columbia Records analog master reels, Sundazed's exact
reproduction of the original LP will have Byrdmaniacs everywhere soaring to high heaven!

This box contains all four solo albums by Bill Wyman, the first Rolling Stone to release a solo record. The first two (from 1974 and 1976, both issued on Rolling Stones Records) were made the help of a galaxy of musical friends like Lowell George, Dr John, Joe Walsh, Van Morrison, the Pointer Sisters, Danny Kortchmar, Dallas Taylor, Leon Russell, Bob Welch and Nicky Hopkins. The eponymous third album was home to Bill's 1981 big hit single (Si Si) Je Suis Un Rock Star as well as follow-up hits Come Back Suzanne, A New Fashion and Visions, while fourth album Stuff appeared in 1992, originally in Japan only.

The albums are now issued on vinyl for the first time since their original release (and 'Stuff' on vinyl for the first time ever), gathered together in a beautiful rigid slipcase. The new inner sleeves feature all the lyrics and the musician credits.

Available On Vinyl For The First Time!

Live at Carnegie Hall is a live Texas blues album by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, released in 1997. The concert was recorded at New York City's Carnegie Hall on October 4, 1984, a day after Vaughan's thirtieth birthday (leading to Vaughan's description of the show as My best birthday ever ... forever).

Special guests included drummer George Rains, Dr. John on keyboards, the Roomful of Blues horn section, brother Jimmie Vaughan on guitar, and vocalist Angela Strehli. This was the first and only time in the band's history that the trio was expanded.

The set list was in large part Vaughan's personal, private, tribute to his role models; he played tunes by Guitar Slim, Albert Collins, and Albert King, all musicians who never got to perform in the legendary concert hall. The album charted on the Billboard 200, and was the #1 Blues album for eight weeks.
