Deep Purple Colored Vinyl'
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Group's 1975 Debut Includes Signature Man on a Silver Mountain and Heralds Beginning of Powerful Combination of Ritchie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio
Wax Cathedral Reissue Comes Replete With Faithful Replication of Original Gatefold Sleeve; Pressed at RTI, America's Best Record Plant
In 1974, Ritchie Blackmore's bandmates in Deep Purple refused his request to cut a cover of Quatermass' Black Sheep of the Family. Demonstrating impressive commitment to the song, Blackmore set out to record it with the help of then-emerging vocalist Ronnie James Dio and members of his band Elf. To have enough material to release this as a single, Blackmore and Dio collaborated on Sixteenth Century Greensleeves. Pleased with the results, the two fleshed out a full album and Blackmore formally parted ways with Deep Purple. Blackmore and Dio named their new band after the location where they initially discussed their collaboration: the legendary Rainbow Bar and Grill on West Hollywood's Sunset Strip. Rainbow was born.
Drawing on medieval classical progressions for inspiration, Blackmore paired textured playing paired with Dio's fantastical lyrical imagery and inimitable vocals. The combination set Rainbow apart from its hard rock contemporaries. Featuring what would prove to be Rainbow's signature tune, Man on the Silver Mountain, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow is a dynamic voyage. Blackmore's somber, melodic playing weaves a mystical tapestry over which Dio's tales of drawbridges, crossbows, and kings settle like a knight on his steed. This influential classic concludes with a flourish, as a cover of the Yardbirds' Gregorian chant-influenced instrumental Still I'm Sad proves a perfect pulpit for Blackmore's rhapsody-like soloing.
Complete with a faithful replication of the original gatefold sleeve and featuring dead-quiet surfaces, this Wax Cathedral reissue is pressed at RTI, America's best record plant. Even better, it's on colored vinyl.1. Man on the Silver Mountain

"I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. We must be over the rainbow!" The famous Wizard of Oz introduction sets the
mood for the thrills, imagination, and aural adventurous that is Rainbow's classic double live album On Stage. Recorded in late
1976, approximately one year before front man Ronnie James Dio's departure from the band, the set stands as one of the decade's
pivotal concert records. On par with Kiss' Alive, UFO's Strangers in the Night, and Deep Purple's Made In Japan, the effort teems
with blistering performances and unfettered energy.
Freed from the confines of the studio, Dio and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore instill passionate bravado and swagger to every
song they attack. At the peak of his powers, Dio sings with leather-lunged gusto and theatrical purpose, hitting seemingly
impossible highs and reaching down to bring dark overtones to the lows. His melancholic showing on a cover of Deep Purple's
"Mistreated" blows away the original. As a perfect foil, Blackmore takes the opportunity to stretch out solos and indulge in bluesy
improvisations, turning "Man on the Silver Mountain" into a multi-part medley and the slowly building, fantasy-themed "Catch
the Rainbow" into an epic workout.
Rainbow's rhythm section is equally inspired. Drummer Cozy Powell jump-starts high-voltage passages with urgent beats and
timely playing. In sync with the irreplaceable contributions of organist/keyboardist Tony Carey, bassist Jimmy Bain supplies a taut
foundation. On Stage is in effect a document of a vital hard-rock band pushing itself to the maximum and succeeding in taking its
audiences on an unforgettable journey. Blackmore's inventive passages and colorful tones are alone worth the price of admission.
Martin Birch's steady, lively production puts it over the top. Unlike many heavily edited albums from the era, Powell is heard front
and center, the drums given as much space and presence as Blackmore's humming guitar, Dio's inimitable singing, and Carey's
howling organ. You're given an invitation to stand onstage with the quintet.
Pressed on green-colored vinyl at RTI, America's best pressing plant, and presented in a faithful reproduction of the original
gatefold sleeve, Wax Cathedral's deluxe reissue of this live scorcher renders the music in the highest fidelity it's ever enjoyed.

The fifth album by the British rock band Gillan was originally released in 1981 during the heyday of the
NWOBHM. For many, including Ian Gillan himself, it is the definitive Gillan album consisting of some
of the bands most effective songs and an overall consistency for which producer Steve Smith should
take much of the credit. This version is released faithful to the original release as a double album,
the first disc contains studio material, and the second features classic live recordings of many of the band's favorite tracks.

Lady With The Golden StockingsPressed On Gold Colored Vinyl
The Lady With The Golden Stockings is a propulsive, forthright groove - a decisive, deep-space, pre-dawn party jam, emitting golden sparks from the black hole center which begat Africa and Watusa. Quantum-elasticity of temporal equations, bubbling bass, trumpet dancing on light waves, tenor sax serenade across the galaxy, signaling yonder... vessels... beings... femaliens...
Pure poetry in sublime, delicate, rhythmelodic motion becomes Spontaneous Simplicity." A centerpiece among the gently blissful, tender works in the Sun Ra canon, heard here in a missing link super rare, compact version freshly excavated from the '58-'59 era - this is the first appearance of the tune (pre-dating by a decade the stretched-out live version first known from Pictures of Infinity). Ra's electric piano bass and the roots-heavy organic beats characteristic of the seminal Nubians sessions providing ballast, Marshall Allen's flute flutters butterfly wings, guiding the ship steadfastly beyond the eternal, to the everpresent; the other side of the end of time.
The title Love in Outer Space first appeared in 1962 on the Saturn album Secrets of the Sun. The backing track here is from the intimate Night of the Purple Moon, originally a 1970 album instrumental, with David Henderson's vocal overlaid and issued on a Saturn 7-inch 45 in 1975. Henderson (known for 1960s work with Umbra collective and the Black Arts movement, performance on Ornette Coleman's Science Fiction plus early scholarship on Jimi Hendrix), provides his own lyrics, singing: "Sunrise in Outer Space, Love for Every Face." With the emergence of this vocal version and the ascension of the Sun Ra Arkestra's mid-seventies popularity, onstage the tune became a quintessential Ra anthem, a vehicle for frenzied acrobatics and organ-asmic drum-orgies of hyper ecstatic proportion.

REDD-SIL-5981xChris Robinson Brotherhood
Purple & Orange Colored Vinyl

The CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD unveil their third studio album PHOSPHORESCENT HARVEST via Silver Arrow Records. The band--Chris Robinson (lead vocals, guitar), Neal Casal (guitar, vocals), Adam MacDougall (keys, vocals), George Sluppick (drums) and Mark Dutton (bass, vocals)--will also hit the road in conjunction with the album's release.
PHOSPHORESCENT HARVEST is a treasure trove of 10 songs--including several the band road-tested over the last few years--that advances the band's kaleidoscopic sound, which is deeply soulful, rootsy and spacey all at once. There's strong songcraft here, with a free-flowing delivery; it is music that is in no hurry to reach its destination but firmly knows where it is going. From the beginning, the CRB set out to do something different from what they had done before, creating their own scene with a musical prowess, cohesive songwriting and a unified commitment to experimentation, both in the studio and on the road (they've performed over 230 shows since forming in 2011).
The best perspective I have on what's going on in my life--good and bad--is what comes out in the songs, says Chris Robinson. As you move on in time, you get older, you have relationships. Some of them are good, some fail. Friends. Drugs. Life. Death. People come, people go. Songwriting is a completely different emotional response to your life and to what it means, to in some poetic nature, put it out there.
PHOSPHORESCENT HARVEST follows the release of the companion albums Big Moon Ritual (June 2012) and The Magic Door (September 2012) plus last year's live quadruple vinyl Betty's S.F. Blends, Vol 1. The group continues to record with producer Thom Monahan, and Robinson wrote all of the songs with Casal, save for two that are Robinson solo compositions (Tornado, Jump The Turnstiles).
We're really going by the electricity and the vibrations that we can sort of tune in to, Robinson recently told Relix magazine (Jan/Feb '14). There's a psychedelic component to it. That's part of the greasing the wheels of the great cosmic engine, with psychedelic thought and philosophy and action. If you get my drift. He went on to talk about the more rock and roll feel on PHOSPHORESCENT HARVEST, and his overall vision for the Brotherhood: I'm not going to have hit records. I don't write pop songs. But then again, I find a deep need to express myself and how I'm feeling and where I am and where I've been and where I'm going by writing songs. Why change something to make it easier for anyone else, when I think if we stay sincere and keep our energies in a real creative place, then people will wander into our small community, and it maybe would get more popular to tend that garden is a great responsibility. But I want it to grow. Check out the whole Relix feature here.
Rolling Stone editor David Fricke picked the CHRIS ROBINSON BROTHERHOOD as one of his favorites of 2012, and praised their live performance in New York City, saying the singer's acid-country Brotherhood, with ex-Ryan Adams guitarist Neal Casal, were a sublime time onstage and across these two albums, recorded at the same sessions and issued six months apart. The Irving Plaza show was a characteristic live high. In the second set, Robinson steered out of a rattling 'Tough Mama,' from Bob Dylan's Planet Waves, into the long reverie 'Girl on the Mountain,' a song from an earlier side trip, New Earth Mud, given fresh air and a new coat of DayGlo paint (1/30/13).1. Live On Fire (Awaiting Repress)Colored Triple Vinyl Set of This Amazing Live Show!
Despite having planned his career meticulously over the past 25 years or so, even in the camp of German hard rock master Axel Rudi Pell surprises cannot be ruled out: Before playing in front of a sold-out Cologne crowd on the second leg of his wildly successful Circle Of The Oath tour, the opportunity arose for taping the whole show, with cameras being all over. Well, Axel gave it a try. And that was a good move. Ten years after his last live album Knights Live (2002), you can - again - be a witness of a complete concert from the Bochum-based guitar virtuoso and his German-American all-star band. To round out the Axel Rudi Pell live package, the recording of the co-headlining gig at last year's Rock Of Ages festival was added to Live On Fire, the name of his newest live oeuvre.
Obviously, a live album doesn't have the same importance and significance as a new studio output, but it nevertheless is a perfect snapshot in time, because 2012 was the most successful year in Axel Rudi Pell's solo career by far. Circle Of The Oath, album No. 14, was released on March 23 and rode high on the charts all over Europe: in his homeland Germany, the critically acclaimed disc made it up to No. 16 in the first week, Switzerland welcomed good old Axel on No. 30, Austria on No. 55, Norway on No. 69 and in Sweden he went up to No. 51. And last but not least, he received another gold award for selling out three consecutive nights at the famous Zeche venue in his native Bochum. Apart from that, he rocked the summer crowds at the legendary Sweden Rock and Wacken Open Air festivals, as well as the open-air Rock Of Ages in Germany together with his band.
Even though Axel loves the composing part at home and the recording business in the studio, home is where the heart is and that's being on stage. Being musically socialized in the Golden Age of hard rock (the Seventies) he's probably a bigger fan of live albums than he would admit. As they say: applause is the performer's meat and drink. But without sometimes being anarchistic spontaneously and playing with the audience's emotions, without the sweat coming off the ceiling and the priceless energy being trapped in the middle of an adventure that is called live concert, when the lights go down and every amp is on fire - the life of a true rocker would be incomplete. Speaking of which: besides his success, Axel Rudi Pell has always been that down-to-earth guy and mainly the fan he was turned into when he first heard DEEP PURPLE's Fireball back in the day. With Live On Fire, he accomplishes a long-desired wish and gives his fans what they desperately want for quite some time.
No surprise at all that the main focus is set on the newbies: here's the striking chords of fast and furious opener Ghost In The Black, the hard rocking pounding of Before I Die and without a doubt one of Axel's best songs written in a decade: the brilliant Circle Of The Oath, which would make Jimmy Page cry out loud. But there's more to listen to on Live On Fire: the passion for medleys (The Masquerade Ball/Casbah/Dreaming Dead) combined with some all-time classics here and there (ZEPPELIN's Whole Lotta Love or PURPLE's Mistreated).1. WARB-RHI-2205xRonnie Montrose (feat. Ricky Phillips and Eric Singer)
10X10 (Pre-Order)Before his untimely death in 2012, renowned American rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose began recording an ambitious passion project with bassist Ricky Phillips (Styx, Bad English) and drummer Eric Singer (Kiss, Alice Cooper). The idea was to record 10 songs with 10 different singers and call the album 10X10. Sadly, Montrose was unable to see the album through during his lifetime. Instead, Phillips made it his mission to finish the songs by enlisting a small army of Ronnie's musician friends to record the vocals and the guitar solos for each song, completing the album in recent years.
Phillips says the songs represent some of Montrose's best work. "His songs still have the fire and angst of a young rebel, but with some added wisdom and foresight voiced in his own unique language of 'guitar-speak.' On 10X10, we hear Ronnie at the top of his game, from the opening crunch guitar of 'Heavy Traffic,' all the way to the closing song, 'I'm Not Lying,' which was Ronnie's tip of the hat to his friend Robin Trower."
10X10 features inspired pairings, like Deep Purple singer Glenn Hughes with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen ("Still Singin' With The Band") and singer Sammy Hagar with Toto guitarist Steve Lukather ("Color Blind"). Legendary blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa also showcases his guitar talents on the track "The Kingdom's Come Undone" with Ricky Phillips on vocals. A few artists both sing and play, like Edgar Winter ("Love Is An Art") and Tommy Shaw ("Strong Enough").
Several artists who appear on 10X10 had recorded with Ronnie during his career, like Edgar Winter, who included the guitarist on his 1972 album, They Only Come Out At Night. Sammy Hagar got his start singing with Montrose. Between 1973-75, he recorded two influential albums - Montrose and Paper Money - with the band and toured the world.
More than 40 years later, Hagar was among the first who agreed to help finish Ronnie's final album. "It's valuable to have 10X10 be seen as Ronnie's last work, rather than going and digging up some stuff from his past. This was something he truly had a vision for," says Hagar.1. Heavy Traffic Feat.
