    Bury The Hatchet

At long last, the wait is over: OCTOBER 31 deliver their long-awaited fourth album, Bury the Hatchet. The band's first album in nine years, Bury the Hatchet sees OCTOBER 31 returning with a vengeance, firing off one mean, lean headbanger after another. Led by erstwhile DECEASED frontman/founder King Fowley, here OCTOBER 31 range their entire repertoire, which goes all the way back to the mid '90s: from thrashing-like-a-maniac attacks to heart-pumping speed metal missiles and plenty of traditional metal in between, Bury the Hatchet is varied, dynamic, and immediately memorable HEAVY METAL to the bloody, glorious end. However, OCTOBER 31 are far, far beyond retro retread; the band entirely comprises 100% dyed-in-the-wool metal maniacs, including ex-Overlord shredder Brian Hellstorm Williams and bassist Jim Hunter of epic metal legends While Heaven Wept and Twisted Tower Dire. Ten tracks and nearly 42 minutes, Bury the Hatchet doesn't overstay its welcome, and buries itself deep into your metal heart.

    How Dare You

How Dare You (1976) is the fourth album by these British Art-Pop Rockers. Its brilliant cover art was designed by the recently deceased Storm Thorgersson of Hipgnosis. After attaining worldwide success with their hit "I'm Not In Love", 10cc returned with a varied set of songs, often tongue-in-cheek humor and eccentric songwriting. Hits "I'm Mandy, Fly Me" and "Art For Art's Sake" are little stories with wonderful poppy hooks and catchy choruses. This is 10cc at their creative peak!

The second Durutti Column album, originally released on
Factory Records in 1981, marked the departure of
producer Martin Hannett (Joy Division, Buzzcocks) and
the addition of drummer Bruce Mitchell, who would remain
a longtime collaborator with chief member, guitarist Vini
Reilly. LC is as powerful as the debut, a fantastic
collection of guitar excursions that transcend genre. This
is also the first album to feature Reilly's speak-sing vocal style on a number of songs
(including The Missing Boy a tribute to the recently deceased leader of Joy Division,
    Ian Curtis). Another stellar album.

    Doomsday For The Deceiver

Gatefold double vinyl - 1000 only limited edition!

Flotsam & Jetsam recorded their debut album in Los Angeles with producer/Metal Blade Records' Brian Slagel. The original release of Doomsday for the Deceiver was in July of 1986 and it was the first in Kerrang! Magazine history to achieve their highest 6K rating. Bassist Jason Newsted, who was also the band's main lyric writer, departed soon after to join Metallica, replacing deceased bassist Cliff Burton. Doomsday for the Deceiver is yet another feather in the cap of Metal Blade Records; a seminal thrash metal release that was way ahead of its time.

Caught Up In The Gears Of Application

Superjoint was resurrected in 2015 after the original band broke up a decade earlier. At the behest of the now deceased Corey Mitchell ( co-founder of The Housecore Records Horror Film Festival) Superjoint founders, Philip H. Anselmo, Jimmy Bower & Kevin Bond teamed up with longtime associates from numerous musical endeavors, Steve Taylor & Jose "Blue" Gonzalez to reform the band. Mitchell's idea worked brilliantly, as the band members found much joy in playing together, and new material followed shortly thereafter. Their new LP, "Caught Up In The Gears of Application" is true to the style of the original-a vicious mix of Hardcore, Heavy Metal, and New Orleans-style angst.

Arguably one of the most groundbreaking and influential bands in the metal realm, ATHEIST combined a death metal attack with virtuosic level of playing. This union would create a style of forward thinking, progressive metal that would soon become the benchmark for many influential metal bands (DEATH, CYNIC, PESTILENCE, etc.).

ATHEIST's sophomore record, 'Unquestionable Presence,' is what metal legend is made of. Written in large part by deceased bassist Roger Patterson, Unquestionable Presence is classic heavy metal interwoven with jazz and a highly articulated melodic sense to create music of timeless brilliance. Upon its initial release it emerged as the most important technical metal record of its time, and to this day remains a crucial yardstick by which daring, ambitious, and progressive metal records are measured.

    The Hill

On the 100th anniversary of Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology,
Merge is reissuing the epic it inspired: Richard Buckner's The Hill.

The Hill started in 1996 in The Ranch Olancha Motel, a dusty place near the
mouth of Death Valley, California. Buckner, who was en route to Tucson,
Arizona, to record what would become Devotion & Doubt, stayed a week in a
room with no phone, no television, carrying his guitar, a four-track recorder,
and a copy of Masters' Spoon River Anthology. He tinkered with a few of the
book's poems, put them on a cassette, and forgot about it until an acquaintance
discovered it in his truck four years later. Beset with writer's block and looking
for a distraction, Buckner would find in the tape the spur he needed.

Recorded in Edmonton, Alberta, and Tucson, The Hill converts Spoon River
poems to music. Each page of Spoon River Anthology reads as a final, postmortem
dictum of a different deceased resident-more than 250 of them
now passed-in the fictional Midwestern town of Spoon River. The epitaphs
are important for Buckner because, in death, these people strip the breathing
city of its dishonesty. Each one, from Reuben Pantier to Elizabeth Childers to
Oscar Hummel, is no longer concerned with whispers and pointed fingers that
are often the consequence of a life laid bare for all to see. They're unleashing
    themselves, without fallacy or attachment.

Buckner chooses 18 of these confessions, each given a unique rendering.
Backed by Calexico's Joey Burns and John Convertino and surveyed with
Buckner's unflagging vocal desperation, Spoon River's residents come back to
life. Like so much of his career, Buckner disappeared into Spoon River and
returns to us with its story

Mahler - Symphony #2 (Speakers Corner)

The search for the extra-musical world in Gustav Mahler's philosophical and programmatic works will doubtless continue to occupy future generations of music scholars. Today's music lovers, however, are wholly satisfied with the highly varied interpretations and impressive sound reproduction - which is precisely what Mahler himself wished for his rugged works. For decades Mahler's dramatic musical masterpieces were misunderstood and scorned as "kapellmeister music". Luckily interest in his works was revived and all nine symphonies were recorded in the 1960s by the recently deceased conductor Sir Georg Solti. Right up to this very day, his cycle has clearly lost nothing of its aura, its reputation for "never having been surpassed" - how could it otherwise have been so successful for so many years in the light of all the highly competitive, more recent recordings?

After the success of the new pressing of Mahler's First Symphony (DECCA SXL 6113), it was high time that the Resurrection-Symphony became available on LP once more. And the result is most impressive. One can only hope that the complete Mahler cycle will one day be resurrected in vinyl.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The legendary Weather Report set the music world on fire back in the early seventies with their hypnotic blend
of progressive-fused jazz with funk, prog-rock and soul, augmented with the brilliant and skillful musicianship of their
superstar founders Wayne Shorter on saxophone and various electronic reeds and the late great Joe Zawinul on a
stunning array of keyboards and electronic instruments. Both of these legendary musicians/composers worked with
Miles Davis on his classics like Bitches Brew, plus solid tenures with legends like Cannonball Adderley (Zawinul) and
Art Blakey (Shorter) all of which would prove to become the huge catalyst for things to come.

Throughout the remainder of the late seventies and beyond, Weather Report's fine arsenal of recordings would
take the band to the top of all the popular music charts. The 1976 fusion classic Black Market would go on to yield
one of the biggest albums of their career as it hit the top rungs of the jazz charts, plus major showings in the pop and
R&B charts. Black Market also introduced the world to the late great bassist legend Jaco Pastorius.

No stone is left unturned, as this masterpiece is loaded with hit after hit with smashes like Joe Zawinul's title
track Black Market, the powerful Elegant People by Wayne Shorter and of course Zawinul's tribute to his recently
deceased bandleader Cannonball Adderley with Cannon Ball.

As one of the most enduring albums in their massive career catalog, Black Market also features the all-star
line-up of Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius (bass), Chester Thompson (drums) and Alex Acuna (percussion).
Friends likes Michael Narada Walden and Alphonso Johnson also contribute to the amazing recording sessions. All in
all, Black Market took the fans by storm, forever retaining the title superstars to the Weather Report franchise.

In this singular exploration of legacy, love, loss, and the enormity of existence, the movie follows a recently deceased, white-sheeted ghost returning to his suburban home to try and reconnect with his bereft wife. The score to A Ghost Story was composed by Lowrey's frequent collaborator Daniel Hart (Tumbledown). Astral in sound and cosmic in scope, Hart's compositions for A Ghost Story will haunt you.

    Now We Can See

Though not a concept record and not a sequel, Now We Can See picks up right where The Thermals left off, at the end of their last LP, 2006's The Body, The Blood, The Machine, where they were either obliterated by nuclear war, or walked the earth as the last living souls, until they dropped dead of quite unnatural causes. Either way, the story continues. The Thermals imagine death by drowning, in attempts to de-evolve (When I Died, At The Bottom of the Sea), death by psychosis (We Were Sick, I Called Out Your Name), and death by French exit (You Dissolve). But as much death as there is on this record, it won't get you down! These songs are really about life. After all, The Thermals are only fictionally deceased.

The Thermals have returned to what they do best, writing undeniably catchy punk tunes. - Spin

John Lee's Barclay James Harvest - Live At Metropolis Studio

    Limited Edition of 750

December 2010 at Metropolis Studios, West London. 120 fans are squeezed into Studio A to witness at extremely close quarters a performance by a progressive rock legend. Leader John Lees introduces a set which includes a wealth of Barclay James Harvest classics and no one in the room was much more than ten feet from a band that is renowned for having played to hundreds of thousands on both sides of the Berlin Wall during the 1980s. It was during the 1970s that BJH made their mark with an impressive array of Mellotron-soaked mini-epics that owed more to Vaughan Williams than Chuck Berry. Today, of course, founder member Lees' version of the band have the full range of 21st century technology available to present what is a selection of the best of BJH - including the poignant Child Of The Universe, the symphonic Mockingbird and of course the concluding and timeless Hymn. It was in 2006 that principal songwriter and guitarist Lees toured the UK for the first time (with original member and keyboardist Woolly Wolstenhome, now sadly deceased) as John Lees' Barclay James Harvest. Sold out London shows, filmed for DVD release, testified to their appeal after a long absence from the stage and for the many fans not lucky enough to have attended the Metropolis show, this new live souvenir offers them an opportunity to once again be captivated by those much-loved BJH compositions.
