    Keep It Hid

Nonesuch Records releases Keep It Hid, the solo debut from singer/songwriter/guitarist Dan Auerbach, best known as half of The Black Keys. While working on and touring in support of The Black Keys most recent album, Attack & Release, Auerbach also was writing songs that would become Keep It Hid. This record is a mixture of things I like to listen to, psychedelia, soul music, country harmonies, says Auerbach. In February Auerbach will begin a national tour with performances in New York City, Boston and Washington, DC. Opening acts for the tour will include Those Darlins and Hacienda, the latter also lending support as Auerbachs backing band.

Keep It Hid was produced and engineered by Auerbach at his studio, Akron Analog and features him playing a variety of instruments, including drums, guitar, percussion and keyboards. Many of Auerbachs friends and family play on the album, including his uncle James Quine, who contributes vocal harmony and electric guitar on the track Street Walkin. Other musicians include fellow Ohioans Jessica Lea Mayfield, who sings on the track When the Night Comes, and Bob Cesare, who plays drums on Whispered Words, a song originally written by Auerbachs father. Of the recording process Auerbach states, I wanted a live, organic sound. Nothing was too plotted or planned, just a lot of spontaneity. The record was mixed by Auerbachs good friend Mark Neill at Neills Soil of the South studio.

With his Black Keys bandmate Patrick Carney, Auerbach has recorded five critically acclaimed full-length albums, beginning with 2002s The Big Come Up. In 2008, Attack & Release debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #14, marking The Black Keys highest position to date. The New York Times called it a savage, bitter concoction built on a snarling punk-rock riff, while the Los Angeles Times called it without doubt the Keys most dynamic effort yet. Auerbach also has been busy with his own record label, Polymer Sounds, for which he produced the 2008 debut from Jessica Lea Mayfield, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt; Pitchfork praised Mayfields album as fascinating and endlessly listenable.

    Alone

The Pretenders are set to release their first album in eight years, Alone, via BMG. Recorded in Nashville and originally intended as a solo follow-up to 2014's 'Stockholm', it soon became obvious that those driving guitars, ragged but righteous arrangements, tough yet tender lyrics delivered by the most beautifully distinctive voice of a generation, sounded fantastically familiar. The Pretenders were back. 36 years after their remarkable first album, 'Alone' could be the older, wiser, badder sister to that exhilarating debut.

Chrissie Hynde recorded the album in Nashville with Dan Auerbach, from The Black Keys, who stood as captain, producer and multi-instrumentalist on the record, an album which sees Chrissie at her searingly honest, most incisive best.

The full band joining Chrissie and Dan on the album features Johnny Cash's former bass player Dave Roe and country rocker Kenny Vaughan on guitar plus sundry members of Dan Auerbach's side project The Arcs: Richard Swift, drums, Leon Michels, keyboards and Russ Pahl providing sly curlicues of pedal steel. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake (Arctic Monkeys, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello). Duane Eddy also features on the punchy 'Never Be Together'.

Of the new album Chrissie Hynde said the following: "This record is what I love the most - real people playing real music. I sang and recorded every vocal in a 48 hour period - 48 hours to sing them, 40 years of preparation!"

The Big Come Up (180 Gram)

2002 was a hell of a year for The Black Keys, the minimalist two-man blues-rock outfit from Akron, Ohio. They released their debut album The Big Come-Up on the tiny Alive label that year and garnered barely-contained raves in Rolling Stone, Spin, The Village Voice and MOJO. One listen to The Big Come Up, a startling raw slab of juke-joint blues, validates the band's rapid ascent from playing for no money on the bottom of the bill at Cleveland's Beachland Tavern to selling out blistering headline dates and being invited to open for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and elder Ohio statesmen Guided By Voices. Their vintage concoction of Dan Auerbach's genuinely fine, powerful blues vocals and busy reverb soaked guitar riffing mixed with Patrick Carney's earthy drumming is what makes The Big Come Up a cool and raunchy electric blues record with a vigor and imagination that's way fresher than any standard bar band blues-rockers with slicker execution and pencient for blues cliches. Attack & Release

Until now, guitarist-singer Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney of the Black Keys took an extreme do-it-yourself approach to record making, hunkering down in a basement studio or setting up equipment in one of the abandoned factories of their native Akron, Ohio. Their modus operandi was more seance than session. With a minimal set of tools, they conjured up a big, swaggering blues-rock sound, seemingly drawn from some distant time and place yet too weirdly original to ever be called retro. As Rolling Stone put it in a review of their 2006 Nonesuch debut, Magic Potion, Pure blues rock of this caliber is really timeless.

For this album, however, the Black Keys decided not to go it alone: Attack and Release is the result of one of the most audacious and eagerly awaited collaborations in alternative rock history. As producer, Auerbach and Carney chose Danger Mouse, the mega-eclectic sonic mastermind behind the Grammy Award-winning Gnarls Barkley's St. Elsewhere and its multi-format hit, Crazy, as well as the music-industry provocateur who created the mother of all mash-ups, The Grey Album. The Black Keys also deigned to work at an established studio, albeit one within driving distance of Akron. Suma Recording, a legendary spot in northeast Ohio renowned for its supply of great vintage gear, provided just the right ambience for the guys. As Carney put it, with genuine affection, Suma smells like a moldy cabin and looks like a haunted house.

On Attack and Release, Danger Mouse is more creative co-conspirator than traditional figure behind the boards. He doesn't radically alter the duo's sound so much as coax out more of its inherent soulfulness, groove and bittersweet emotion. Two versions of Remember When illustrate how the duo can swing easily from smoldering ballad to thrashing rocker. I'm more pleased with the sound of this record than any one we've ever made, says Carney, and Auerbach concurs: We never let it all go like we did for this one, anything was game. It was just fun to make, and that's why I think it's so successful. The band adds more instrumentation to their mix, including piano, organ and moog synthesizer. Danger Mouse fashions subtle special effects, like the ghostly background choir that surfaces on the moody I Got Mine, which sounds as if it were samples from some old Warner Bros. cartoon. The Black Keys also invited in a few special guests: guitarist Marc Ribot and clarinetist-flautist (and Pat's uncle) Ralph Carney, both veterans of Tom Waits' band and players on countless avant-rock/jazz/noise session. Jessica Lea Mayfield a/k/a Chittlin, an impressive 18 year-old bluegrass/country singer from Kent, Ohio, sings alongside a heart-breakingly plaintive Auerbauch on the slow-dance final cut, Things Ain't Like They Used to Be

    South Of Nowhere

Spanish Gold, which features drummer Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), guitarist Adrian Quesada (formerly of Grupo Fantasma) and guitarist and lead vocalist Dante Schwebel (City and Colour, formerly of Hacienda), release their debut album South of Nowhere on BMG/Del Mar Records.

Produced by the trio along with Collin Dupuis (JEFF the Brotherhood, Bombino), South of Nowhere was recorded by Dupuis at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and at Lalaland in Louisville. Additional recording was done with Jim Eno (Spoon, Poliça) at Public Hi-Fi in Austin and Sam Patlove (The Octopus Project) at Big Orange in Austin.

Of making the new album, Schwebel comments, "We kept finding that we had a lot of the same reference points during the recording. It became evident that we were still children of the MTV era.

We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It's an album of all those styles. Like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996. It's a nod to Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Madonna, the Beastie Boys or Tom Petty, all with a Texas border town setting. It all adds up to a fun listen that you can keep on repeat."

    Loud Is The Night

There is something to get excited about in south-central Texas. In fact the buzz surrounding San Antonio's Hacienda may signal a rebirth of young rock n' roll -with emphasis on the roll- to the country's landscape. Formed by cousins Abraham Villanueva (piano/vocals) and Dante Schwebel (guitar/vocals), together with Abraham's brothers Jaime (drums/vocals) and Rene Villanueva (bass/vocals), this Mexican-American quartet blends a raw yet sophisticated style of pop music with harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and Beach Boys. As fate would have it, a demo of 6 songs landed in the hands of Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, and the band's life was forever changed. Soon after they were opening for The Black Keys in Austin Texas, as well as for Dr. Dog, gaining some much needed exposure. Under Auerbach's watch, Hacienda would write and arrange more than twenty songs, sending him demos periodically in preparation for their debut album, ultimately recording in Dan's own studio in Akron, Ohio. In order to keep the integrity of the music, Loud Is The Night was largely captured live in the room with a helping hand from new friends Scott and Frank of Dr. Dog. With them they worked on existing vocal harmonies and created new ones, greatly embellishing the album. The result is a beautiful collection of songs played with integrity and soul to spare, and while the band is aware of its 60's influences, the music on Loud is the Night is far from derivative, and the finished product is modern pop music performed with genuineness and taste.

Radio Moscow is a psychedelic blues rock trio from Ames, Iowa, led by guitarist/drummer/singer/songwriter Parker Griggs, and this, their self-titled debut album, is produced and engineered by Black Keys guitarist/singer Dan Auerbach. Dan was given a demo by Parker after a Black Keys gig in Colorado, and he liked it so much that he offered to produce their debut album in his own studio in Akron OH. 21-year-old Parker Griggs originally cut his teeth playing garage punk, but his sound is also channeled through the blues, with experimental breakdowns, unpredictable tempo changes, crazy rave-ups and fuzzed out psychedelic guitar work; the result is an exciting and truly distinctive sound. Parker plays all the instruments on the album except for bass and slide guitar on Deep Blue Sea which is played by Dan Auerbach.

    Paradise (Awaiting Repress)

Recorded at Black Keys guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach's East Eye Sound Studios in Nashville, Paradise, the Wood Brothers' Honey Jar Records-issued fifth studio long-player and follow-up to 2013's The Muse, is their first outing to be written by all three members of the trio, Oliver Wood, Chris Wood, and Jano Rix. It's also the first set of recordings from the group to feature bassist Chris Wood swapping out his upright for an electric four-string, but plugging in has done little to dampen the trio's penchant for crafting experimental yet always emotionally resonant slabs of funk-tinged folk and jazz-inflected Americana blues.

The appropriately titled 3 is the Buffalo Killers 3rd and most accomplished album to date. Buffalo Killers are an American rock band comprised of brothers Zachary and Andrew Gabbard with Joseph Sebaali. Quickly signed to Alive Records after sending a burnt CD with just their telephone number and name on it, their self-titled debut album was released in October of 2006.

Buffalo Killers drew the attention of Chris Robinson, who invited the band to open a string of dates for The Black Crowes. That road trip spawned the songs for the bands second long player, Let It Ride, produced by The Black Keys Dan Auerbach. Most recently, the Buffalo Killers collaborated with Kelley Deal on the just released Sing For Your Meat: A Tribute to Guided By Voices.

Big Red and Barbacoa is the second album by South Texas' Hacienda, and like its predecessor Loud Is The Night (Alive 2008), it has been produced at the Akron Analog Studio by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.
Recorded on the tail end of a year of playing at clubs and festivals across North America, Australia, and Europe, opening for Dan Auerbach and Dr. Dog, this new album brings heavier grooves and flavor to the '60s harmonies sound the band is known for. The result is a blend of Tex-Mex roots rock, retro-pop and R&B that can only be described as South Texas Soul. Big Red and Barbacoa captures the attitude of a band ready to throw pretension to the roadside and play rock'n'roll the way it was intended.

In the vein of their 2002 debut, The Big Come Up, the Black Keys sophomore album leavens their garage blues with enough innovation to keep things interesting, taking full advantage of Dan Auerbachs full-throated growl and Patrick Carney's bigger than life drum work. All Or Nothin'

For her hotly anticipated sophomore album Nashville
songstress Nikki Lane teamed up with Dan Auerbach
of the Black Keys for a record that turns the vulnerable
singer-songwriter stereotype on its ears. With songs
that crucify ex-boyfriends, celebrate one-night stands
(as long as she can bolt town right after) and proclaim
it's "always the right time to do the wrong thing," Lane
comes across like a modern-era Wanda Jackson, albeit
with more oats to sow. "My songs always paint a pretty
clear picture of what's been going on in my life, so this
is one moody record," she says. "There's lots of talk of
    misbehaving and moving on."

    Body Questions

Seth Kauffman is Floating Action. Hailing from the small town of Black Mountain, NC Kauffman channels the collective creative energy that has been birthed and transferred between the mountains of the Swannanoa Valley. For his 6th proper studio album Kauffman holed up in his own tiny studio and took from his experiences working with luminaries such as Dan Auerbach and Jim James and built upon them to further challenge his own style and sound by creating his most advanced work to date. Body Questions is a personal testament of the Floating Action vision, it is growth that challenges and exhilarates the sensory experience constructed in the form of extraordinary pop songs.

    Tell Me I'm Pretty

Tell Me I'm Pretty was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys & The Arcs. With this record, we wanted to be more transparent, said lead singer Matt Shultz. We wanted to capture the sentiment of each song, and whatever emotional response it provoked, to be really honest to that. The results are the band's most forceful and focused songs yet. They recorded most of the songs on the 10-song album on the first take, capturing the band's raw and frenetic onstage energy. Their last album, Melophobia, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Alternative Album.

30th Century Records Compilation Volume 1

In the summer of 2015, Brian Burton (aka Danger Mouse) announced details about 30th Century Records, his imprint in collaboration with Columbia Records. The first release that comes from the world-renowned artist, songwriter, and producer is 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, featuring eleven tracks of guitar-based brilliance.

A psychedelic mosaic with international scope, 30th Century Records Compilation Volume I, touches both future and classic sounds from the sun-drenched shores of Brazil to to the murky depths of Glasgow. Dan Auerbach's blistering riffage in The Arcs, and Autolux's arty experimentalism are featured alongside Sam Cohen's rough-hewn authenticity and emotive rockers from newcomers like Nine Pound Shadow and Waterstrider. Compiled by Danger Mouse, this album finds guitar music alive and well from the garage to the depths of space.

The compilation will also feature a brand new track from Autolux, who will release their forthcoming album via 30th Century Records in 2016, as well as an exclusive new track from Dan Auerbach's project, The Arcs.
