    Christopher Cross

1st Time on 180 Gram Vinyl

    Mastered from the Original Tapes

    Gatefold Cover

The legendary Christopher Cross set the music world on fire back in 1979 with his superstar brand of rock, pop and soulful
melodies which landed him at the top of the charts almost immediately with his debut self-titled masterpiece Christopher Cross.
Augmented with the brilliant musicianship of master musicians like Michael McDonald, Nicolette Larson, Don Henley, Eric
Johnson, Larry Carlton, Valerie Carter, Billy Payne, Michael Omartian and J.D Souther, the Christopher Cross album would prove to
become the huge catalyst for things to come.

For the next two years, the singles and hit album tracks would take the artist to the top of all the popular music charts as this
masterwork would eventually take the artist to the 1981 Grammy Awards, where he would go on to win in five major categories,
including Album Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist Of The Year. This historic feat hasn't been
matched since, and it's easy to hear why the music tells the story.
The nine performances contained within the Christopher Cross album were of legendary proportion, which still makes this
one of the most successful albums of the classic rock era.

No stone is left unturned, as this masterpiece is loaded with hit after hit
with smashes like the number one Sailing which forever etched the title superstar to this legend, as well as more number ones and
top charters like his first hit single Ride Like The Wind which crossed unto all radio formats back in 1979. And who could forget the
amazing background vocals of fellow superstar Michael McDonald of The Doobie Brothers!
More Cross magic continues with the rockin' opener Say You'll Be Mine duet with the late great Nicolette Larson and his jazz
centerpiece Spinnin' featuring the golden voice of Valerie Carter.
As one of the most enduring albums in history, the Christopher Cross LP also shows the guitar showmanship of this legend with significant guitar workouts on tracks like Minstrel Gigolo, The Light Is On and the hit single Never Be The Same.

All in all, a collection of songs which took the fans by storm, forever associating the title superstar to the Christopher Cross name.
As another stunning release in our Friday Music Christopher Cross Original Master series, we are pleased to announce for the
very first time on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl his amazing debut Christopher Cross. Mastered impeccably from the original Warner
Bros. Records tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music studios and at Capitol Records in Hollywood, this amazing classic truly shines
    in the audiophile vinyl domain.

To enhance your limited edition album experience, this first time audiophile vinyl release is also for a very short time being offered in a wonderful gatefold cover presentation, showcasing the original lyrics sleeve not seen in years.

    Crossings (Speakers Corner)

In the 1970s, Herbie Hancock's Crossings was to be found on every IKEA record shelf in the student pads of jazz-fusion fans. The cover, with its psychedelic touch, also contributed significantly to its popularity - although it was unclear where the crossing was going to take us

Nevertheless, the excellent trumpeter Eddie Henderson - often underestimated as an improviser and composer, and Benny Maupin - who like Hancock had grown up under Miles Davis's wing, present a wide range of sound-generating instruments - as was all the rage in those days. Synthesizer and Mellotron (a polyphonic tape replay keyboard and as such practically the prototype of the sampler) were permanent members of the group - and even produce here melodic arches of sound! Whether Bennie Maupin's Quasar launches the group and us into extraterrestrial territory (as stated in one review) is a moot point.

This LP is a contemporary historical document, though it certainly doesn't sound antiquated. That's why younger listeners too will find pleasure in this experiment from the previous millennium.

    Musicians:

    • Herbie Hancock (electric-piano, piano, mellotron, percussion)

    • Bennie Maupin (soprano saxophone, flute, bass clarinet, piccolo flute, percussion)

    • Eddie Henderson (trumpet, flugelhorn, percussion)

    • Julian Priester (trombonbe, percussion)

    • Patrick Gleeson (synthesizer)

    • Buster Williams (bass, percussion)

    • Billy Hart (drums, percussion)

Recording: February 1972 at Pacific Recording Studios, San Mateo, CA., by Patrick Gleason

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

One of Merle Haggard's finest recordings, 1968's Mama Tried is comprised of a number of strong originals and several excellent covers. While Mama Tried, I'll Always Know and You'll Never Love Me Now all happen to be some of Haggard's most solid original offerings, it's his gritty and honest interpretations of songs like Little Ole Wine Drinker Me, In the Good Old Days (When Times Were Bad), Teach Me to Forget, Run 'Em Off and Too Many Bridges to Cross Over that help distinguish Mama Tried as perhaps the most quintessential Bakersfield-Sound album ever recorded.

    The Double Cross

Following their most critically-acclaimed albums to date, SPIN called Never Hear the End of It, the best British Invasion best-of you've never heard, and Pitchfork called Parallel Play almost flawless, Canadian pop iconoclasts Sloan are ready to celebrate. Their recent albums would be reason enough but 2011 marks the 20th Anniversary of the band, and how better to honor such an occasion than a brand new prolific album with power pop gems.

Sloan delivers just that with their 10th album The Double Cross, a titular shout-out to the band's 20th (or XX) anniversary. The album kicks off as awesome as universal healthcare with Follow the Leader and the sure-fire sync license riffage of Unkind. Raise your glasses to 20 years of Sloan!

    Cross My Palm With Silver

A year after his impressionistic, critically-lauded ECM debut Into The Silence, trumpeter Avishai Cohen's Cross My Palm With Silver introduces a program of new pieces which put the focus on the ensemble, on teamwork, with a quartet of the highest caliber. The adroit, almost telepathic interplay among the musicians allows Avishai Cohen to soar, making it clear why he is one of the most talked-about jazz musicians on the contemporary scene.

All of these people together are my dream team, says the charismatic trumpeter of fellow players Yonathan Avishai, Barak Mori and Nasheet Waits, who share his sense for daring improvisation and his feeling for structure. I feel we're in a perfect place with the balance. It's open and there's so much room for the improvisation to take the music any place we can. At the same time, the composition is very specific and the vibe is very direct and thought about.

As with Into The Silence, Cross My Palm With Silver was produced by Manfred Eicher at Studios La Buissonne in the South of France.

    Criss-Cross (Pure Pleasure)

Criss-Cross - Thelonious Monk's second album for Columbia Records - features some of the finest work that Monk ever did in the studio with his '60s trio and quartet. Whether revisiting pop standards or reinventing Monk's own classic compositions, Monk and Charlie Rouse (tenor sax), John Ore (bass), and Frankie Dunlop (drums) exchange powerful musical ideas, as well as provide potent solos throughout the disc. Fittingly, Hackensack - a frenetic original composition - opens the disc by demonstrating the bandleader's strength in a quartet environment. The solid rhythmic support of the trio unfetters Monk into unleashing endless cascades of percussive inflections and intoxicating chord progressions. The title cut also reflects the ability of the four musicians to maintain melodic intricacies that are at times so exigent it seems cruel that Monk would have expected a musician of any caliber to pull them off. Tea for Two showcases Monk's appreciation for the great stride or 'walking' piano style of James P. Johnson and Willie 'The Lion' Smith. The arrangement here is lighter and features a trio (minus Rouse) to accent rather than banter with Monk's splashes of magnificence throughout. Likewise, Monk's solo on Don't Blame Me is excellent. The extended runs up and down the keyboard can't help but reiterate the tremendous debt of gratitude owed to the original stride pianists of the early 20th century. This is prime Monk for any degree of listener.

Limited Edition Vinyl LP + DVD

Bigger and Blackerer was taped during two shows, back-to-back on the same evening in Boston, MA. Only by watching the DVD will you learn of Daivid Cross unique relationship with the deaf community, share his canny insights into the editorial machinations behind the Bible, and marvel at how well a bald, middle aged white guy can fill out a pair of jeans. Yet one must listen to the LP in order to hear about gastro-intestinal misadventures with his dog Ollie Red Sox, or sing along with The Sultans Revenge, the swinging, Vegas-style opening number composed by Cross and his good friend Mark Rivers (author of the theme to Mr. Show).

Bigger and Blackerer is David Cross third album, preceded by Its Not Funny (2004) and Shut Up You Fucking Baby! (2002). The latter was actually nominated for a Grammy Award. Cross was also the first comedian signed to Sub Pop Records, paving the way for Eugene Mirman, Flight of the Conchords, and dozens of other hopeful comics.

During his illustrious career, David Cross has played recurring roles on the TV programs Arrested Development and The Colbert Report, and won an Emmy Award for his contributions to The Ben Stiller Show. He has also starred in such films as Waiting for Guffman, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Bob Dylan fantasy Im Not There (in which he portrayed Allen Ginsberg), and Kung Fu Panda. He is currently working on the UK show The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (broadcast on IFC in the USA).

    Pillar of Fire

Tau Cross, the multinational punk / heavy metal collective revolving around Amebix bassist / frontman Rob The Baron Miller, Voivod drummer Michel Away Langevin, and members of cult crust outfits Misery and War//Plague, return with their highly anticipated sophomore full-length entitled Pillar of Fire.

Recorded in three different countries and co-produced by The Baron, Pillar of Fire further expands the group's unique musical approach ranging from dark folk witchery to industrial punk metal brutalism; a moody melting pot of Killing Joke's metallic post-punk and Motörhead's anthemic, hard rock with flourishes of traditional instrumentation and an infusion of 16th century English mysticism. Pillar of Fire is a musical unearthing of Tau Cross's philosophical preoccupations: mythological motifs, ultra-terrestrial hypotheses, surreal, social political landscapes and the endless search for meaning in a controlled Universe.

    Coranach

Were there a United Nations of Punk, the trilateral union of nationalities in Cross Stitched Eyes would make an excellent security council. Not only do they collaborate across American, German, and English boundaries, but they would probably scare rogue nations into submission.
Rightly compared to Amebix, Rudimentary Peni, and Killing Joke, Cross Stitched Eyes, formed in 2005, breathe new life into the anarcho-crust genre. Drummer and vo- calist Jason Willer played in Lookout Records' Enemies (with Dave Ed of Neurosis), The UK Subs, and Drain the Sky; guitarist Tim Crow was in Sworn Liars, Zygote, Bad Influence, and Smart Pils; and guitarist Chris Hutto played in Black Mass. Rounding out the rhythmic pedigree is bassist Mr. Stevie of Tourette Syndrome and Anger of Bacteria, plus Subhumans (UK) drummer Trotsky. All this name-dropping and reference-checking only matters insofar as the music kicks ass with a steel-toed boot.

After releasing a 7-inch on Ruin Nation and an album on Active, Cross Stitched Eyes pack fourteen short but perfectly compact songs together for their Alternative Tentacles debut. Unafraid to let loose with noise damage on Substance or get melodic with Breath of Lies, the band shows a diversity of styles on Coranach. Dirgey and doom-y elements abound and the sound quality surpasses the muddy fidelity of the band's predecessors.

    Decomposition

Decomposition, the second full-length by US/UK/German collective Cross Stitched Eyes, follows in the tradition of anarchist punk and death rock (Rudimentary Peni, Cortex, The Mob, Killing Joke). Embracing the many irrational and visceral shades of this style's darkest corners, the album decidedly rejects traditional copy-and-paste guidelines of musical conformity with a puncturing attitude.

The harsher side of Cross Stitched Eyes derives directly from the band's artistic influences and its deconstructed presentation. Decomposition's leadoff track "We Follow" evokes reactions to seemingly unchanging lifestyles with a vitriolic diatribe. Others like "Animated Corpse" and "Earth's Defiant" display a lyrical depth seldom heard these days. At times benign, at others aggressive, Decomposition explores the complicated relationship between dark and light.

Cross Stitched Eyes features members of Zygote, Alaric, U.K. Subs, Smart Pills, Anger of Bacteria and Endrophobia. Don't judge them by their other activities because they all bring a special component to this multinational collective. Tim Shapland produces all the band's recordings and captures the urgency of their sound; he also shreds on the guitar. Jason Willer drives the beat and his vocals shape the songs, leading with the direction of an intuitive scavenger on the hunt. Steve Daniel anchors the low-end rhythmic components with an industrious attitude that is uniquely his own.

    Songs Of Patience

The title of Alberta Cross' new studio album, Songs of Patience is, in many ways, literal. It's been three long years since the band last released a full-length album. The highs and lows of their journey raised a grander set of ideas, infusing the 10-song set's title with additional universal meaning.

After touring extensively on their debut, Broken Side of Time, with bands like Them Crooked Vultures, Oasis, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and stopping at festivals like Bonnaroo and Sasquatch, Alberta Cross headed to an old, abandoned house in the middle of nowhere near Woodstock, NY. There, they braved the freezing winter and embraced a sense of the building's haunted past to envision ideas for a new records.

In the end, the record is the sum of three years' worth of parts, a struggle that concluded in victory. Three difference producers: Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket), Mike Daly (Whiskeytown, Young the Giant) and Claudius Mittendorfer (Muse, Interpol). It opens new possibilities for the band's visceral live show, a notable facet of the group defined by their raucous, gritty onstage performances that swell the tracks into bigger, more expansive versions of themselves. Song of Patience has also, in many ways, become a decided source of inspiration for the band members, one they hope magnifies the personal battles and upsides of their fans.

    Not Dark Yet (Pre-Order)

Critically acclaimed artists and sisters Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer will release Not Dark Yet via Silver Cross Records / Thirty Tigers. Produced by Teddy Thompson, their first and highly anticipated album together is an extraordinary debut of the pair's transcendent musical bond.

Not Dark Yet was recorded in Los Angeles in the summer of 2016. The album provides a potent look at the sisters' individual and collective artistry through eclectic song choices from writers ranging from the Louvin Brothers, Nick Cave, Kurt Cobain, and back to Jessie Colter. Shelby and Allison wrap their arms around the past, plant their feet in the present, and nod toward what's around the bend with a co-written Is It Too Much, to close out the ten-song set.

    New Gold Dream (Half-Speed Master)

HALF-SPEED MASTER : 2016 reissue of 1982 album, mastered at Abbey Road Studios from the original tapes & pressed on 180-gram audiophile quality vinyl!

New Gold Dream is the fifth album by the celebrated Caledonian rockers. Released in 1982, it is widely considered to be a turning point for the band, a bridge between their post punk roots and stadium-filling destiny, and gathered enormous critical acclaim as well as impressive sales. Listed in the estimable tome '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' New Gold Dream was a discernible move toward a more a commercial sound and it entered the UK chart at number 3, yielding the hit singles Promised You a Miracle and Glittering Prize.

The latter track and the synth-heavy Someone Somewhere in Summertime in particular represented a shift towards undisguised pop and it's also worth noting that Hunter and Hunted features a solo by Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, a rare distinction for any rock/pop album.

Every band or artist with a history has an album that's their holy grail, remarked lead singer Jim Kerr. I suppose New Gold Dream was ours. It was a special time because we were really beginning to break through with that record, both commercially and critically. The people that liked that record connected with it in a special way. There was a depth to it: it created its own mythology. It stood out."
also worth noting that Hunter and Hunted features a solo by Jazz keyboardist Herbie Hancock, a rare distinction for any rock/pop album.

The artwork caused quite stir due to its religious imagery, so much so that on the version released in Yugoslavia, the cross was removed. Jim Kerr reflected [During the writing of the album] we often went for walks. Around Perth you find a lot of Celtic crosses, crosses that seem to spring up from the earth. We thought it was a very powerful symbol. They were in the ground which produced the water we drank, so why not?

    This Side Of Jordan

At its core, Mandolin Orange is a duo - Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz - from Carrboro, NC. Their harmonies are ethereal, their chemistry vibrant, bringing to mind the atmosphere invoked by classic duos such as Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, or Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.

Andrew and Emily provide the foundation of the group's timeless Americana sound, while enlisting a full band to flesh out their dynamics. This Side of Jordan is the group's 3rd full length. The band has made quite a bit of noise on the folk/Americana circuit, while displaying a virtuosity and exuberance that crosses over to more indie-rock inclined audiences. This Side of Jordan is a stunning work of beauty and grace from a young band destined for great things.

    Passaggio: Einaudi By Lavinia

Lavinia Meijer is one of the most versatile harpists of this era and representative for Dutch harpists worldwide. She experiments with different forms of music and art, like theatre, dance, Electronica and Jazz. Her last album contained adaptations of Phillip Glass, for which she received a Platinum award in The Netherlands for selling more than 20.000 copies.

In Passaggio - Einaudi by Lavinia she adapts the works of Ludovico Einaudi, for which the maestro allowed his full cooperation. As Lavinia herself says: The music of Einaudi speaks to me through my fingers and crosses all borders. The pieces that are presented on Passaggio fill me with joy and affection, which I want to share with my audience, hoping to solve some of the mystery of Einaudi. Or maybe even better; to enlarge the mystery altogether.

    Era Vulgaris (Awaiting Repress)

Latin for common era, Era Vulgaris holds a pair of common threads with the four Queens of the Stone Age records that preceded it. One, it crosses colossal guitar chords with the most volatile of hard rock melodies. And second, it's as LOUD as loud gets, thanks to Josh Homme, the impatient instigator behind the ever-evolving cast of personalities that make up the band. Detonation comes with track one, as the jagged riffs of Turning on the Screw lead the listener into Sick, Sick, Sick, where Julian Casablancas spews his vocals beneath a wall of multi-guitar catcalls. Although the head Stroke will likely garner the most attention, perpetual Queener Mark Lanegan's velvety pipes earmark two of Era's most booming selections: the funky Make It Wit Chu (complete with Temptations-like backing vocals) and the heart-racing three minutes of River in the Road. Add the garage rock of Homme's 3's & 7's and Suture Up Your Future, easy pickings for most likely crossover hit, and Era Vulgaris-- hypnotically and explosively common--holds its own with any in the QoTSA discography. --Scott Holter
