    Ruining Lives

By the time PRONG had signed to Epic Records in 1989, the New York City post metal triumvirate had already accomplished a lot. The band, formed by guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor, soundman at the legendary club CBGB's along with the club's doorman Mike Kirkland and ex-Swans drummer Ted Parsons had already released two independent records: the Primitive Origins EP (1987) and Force Fed (1988).

A show at the old Ritz in New York with New York hardcore legends Cro-Mags and German thrashers Destruction was what sealed a deal with Epic Records. "Signing with a major label was very much a matter of survival," Victor explained to Britain's Kerrang! magazine in 1990. "We aren't high school kids living with our parents." Survive and thrive was more like it for PRONG.

1990's Beg To Differ became an instant genre classic. Songs like the epic title track or the tightly disciplined and sonically dynamic "Lost and Found" further carved out the band's innovative deconstruction of metal's excesses.

    No Rest, No Peace

...expect carnage this summer upon its release. Big time. - Big Cheese UK

Alpha & Omega's second full-length is a juggernaut of an album, drawing from influences of hardcore mainstays such as Cro Mags and Integrity as well as crossover and metal like Crowbar and Metallica, resulting in a sound that is 100% us, vocalist Luis Hernandez said. He continued, Every lyric, every riff is real - this album truly reflects Alpha & Omega as a whole.

No Rest, No Peace is also the first album the band has written together; each song featuring input from every member. And with Chad Gilbert producing and Kyle Black recording, this record sounds tougher while more accessible than anything Alpha & Omega has done thus far.

    Victim In Pain

One of the greatest genre-defining hardcore bands of all time, Agnostic Front, has changed the face of music throughout their 25-year long career. The two records that started it all, United Blood and Victim in Pain, are legendary NYHC releases and some of the most sought after pieces of music for fans and collectors. Finally, these two releases are coming back to life via Bridge Nine Records which will re-release United Blood on 7 and Victim in Pain on 12 LP. 1983's United Blood was the band's first release and was followed shortly thereafter by Victim in Pain in 1984. These recordings were a blast of pure New York hardcore that confirmed AF's status as leaders of the NYHC movement alongside precursors the Cro-Mags and Murphy's Law.

    Murphy's Law (Awaiting Repress)

Founded in Astoria, Queens in 1983 Murphy's Law are huge part of the New York
and American hardcore legacy. Their albums, such as the self entitled, "Murphy's
Law" and the 1989 follow up "Back With A Bong" helped creating the sound of
New York Hardcore back then, as well as what it stands for today. In 2008 their
legacy even lead to the use of the song "A Day In A Life" (from the band's debut) in
the Liberty City Hardcore radio station on the Rockstar video game "Grand Theft
Auto IV". Murphy's Law never abandoned the Hardcore scene or their fans. During
the extensive career Jimmy Gestapo stayed true his scene earning him & the band
the name of one of NYHC's all time favorites.

The eponymous Murphy's Law debut is perhaps one of the most rocking New York punk releases to appear in the '80s. The manic tempos, masochistic vocals, and other hardcore signatures are toned down here to better suit the group's party message. Apolitical when compared to hard-line contemporaries like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law shoots for an inebriated slice-of-life essence more aligned with Boston's Gang Green. The right-wing and skinhead references didn't exactly sit well with some '80s punk observers who mistakenly labeled the band as fascist. But even a casual study of California Pipeline and Ilsa reveals an allegiance contrary to the skinhead stereotype. Highlights include the Ace Frehley-inspired guitar work on Skinhead Rebel as well as the rockabilly Wahoo Day groove. A must-have for fans of the group and a strong recommendation for any '80s punk scholar, Murphy's Law is simply a fun ride.

    Manifest Decimation

Dallas band Power Trip play frantic crossover thrash that makes for amazing live shows. (They've toured, and are pals with, Trash Talk, and more than hold their own.) At any given time, whirling dervish Frontman Riley Gale can sound like Lemmy fronting Cro-Mags, Discharge, Exodus, or Nuclear Assault; other times, he locates a grizzlier tone that evokes guys wearing corpsepaint.

On the quintet's huge-sounding eight-song debut LP Manifest Decimation on Southern Lord, they match the live intensity: The collection, which follows demos, 7's, and compilation appearances, finds the band easily filling 35 minutes with great riffs, catchy shout-along choruses, legit mosh parts, and brief ambient excurisions that don't take away from the overall intensity. The cover art, by Italian artist Paolo Madman Girardi, gives you an idea of that atmosphere, which includes samples about both death and Texas.

    Up In Arms

We work hard, and we have a lot to say. Look around the planet - people are fed up with the corrupt ruling class. They destroy the planet and kill millions for profit, and the formula for our response is simple: Anger + applied knowledge = results. Don't just bitch. Change it.

    - JOHN JOSEPH

At its purest, there is little that can match the visceral thrill and empowering spirit of hardcore. As frontman of New York City hardcore kings Cro-Mags, this is something John Joseph knows very well, and with Up In Arms, he and his Bloodclot compatriots deliver a furious collection that hits hard on every level. "In this band we're doing what each of us have always done: give it our all," he states plainly.

The results reflect the roots and passions of the individual members. Danzig/Murphy's Law guitarist Todd Youth was the first piece of the puzzle. "We've always talked about doing this record together, Todd had songs written and I had notebooks full of lyrics. In late September 2015, I went out to LA to do a triathlon and injured my calf muscle, so I couldn't race, and Todd said he could get some studio time. So, we went in and cut the demo. While there are things we may perceive as a negative in our lives, in fact the universe has a bigger plan, and that experience ultimately resulted in the record." Having been friends with Queens Of The Stone Age and Danzig powerhouse drummer Joey Castillo for three decades, the two musicians had long admired each other's work, and their collaboration has been a long time coming. Following Castillo's suggestion of bringing in Nick Oliveri (Queens Of The Stone Age/The Dwarves) to handle bass duties, the lineup was complete. The songs that comprise Up In Arms manifested after the quartet plugged in and let the music speak for them. "We didn't decide to try to play anything, these are the songs that happened when we started jamming, and I love this band because there are no egos involved. Our goal is to make the best music possible, period. I love it when those guys contribute with melodies, etc., and I've even helped with some of the arrangements. Because we all think alike, our lyrics deal with the issues of the day, and that makes for better songs."

Every track on Up In Arms lives up to the rallying cry of the album's title - the bursts of high energy hardcore act as the perfect accompaniment to Joseph setting his sights on injustice and the seemingly endless flaws of the contemporary world. The breakneck thrashing of "Slow Kill Genocide" is an anthem for everyone sickened by those responsible for "killing the planet and all its inhabitants through industry and war. They're fucking maniacs and must be stopped." The suitably titled "Manic" attacks with bared fangs, Joseph making it clear that you can only push someone so far before they will react with violence - a call to arms for the disenfranchised who want tomorrow's world to be better than today's. Tracked at NRG in Los Angeles, the raw, old-school production that leaps out from the speaker comes courtesy of producer Zeuss (Hatebreed, Revocation), and the record was mixed by Kyle McAulay at NRG. From the moment the opening title track explodes to life, it's clear that everyone involved is having a blast and playing from the heart, and that this is no frills / no bullshit music at its most passionate - every song evoking mental images of utter chaos in a heaving mosh pit.

For anyone approaching the album for the first time, Joseph has only this to say: "Turn the volume way the fuck up!" And with plans to tour everywhere, Bloodclot will be getting in a lot of faces in 2017 and beyond. "We are already writing material and the next album is in the works. But, for now, all we want is to hit the stage to support 'Up in Arms', and every single night leave every ounce of ourselves up there."
