    The Creeper

Recorded at the Rudy Van Gelder Studio in 1967, but not released by Blue Note until 1981, the aptly titled, The Creeper finds Donald Byrd in an acoustic sextet with Sonny Red (alto), Pepper Adams (baritone), Chick Corea (piano), Miroslav Vitous (bass) and Mickey Roker (drums). The solid set also stands as the jazz trumpeter's last in the hard bop style and in a way the end of an era.

    The Night Creeper

The Night Creeper is the new album by Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats. Contained within are ten tracks of the type of sonic psyche-frazzling heaviness and blood-drenched pop that have made Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats one of Britains great cult bands.

Recorded at Toe Rag studios in early 2015 with engineer Liam Watson (White Stripes, Tame Impala, Electric Wizard), their fourth opus The Night Creeper, finds the quartet in full-on deatripping, third eye-widening mode. Here songs ooze louche evil over flesh-melting riffs that creep like hot magma bubbling up through the earths crust at their own malevolent pace. This album is in no hurry to destroy you. But it will. It will.
In an age when the word is over-used, Uncle Acid are indeed a true cult. Everything they do is covert, their movements crepuscular, the loyalty they inspire fervent. Every sneering melody and every piece of artwork is loaded with meaning, designed to be pored over. Their press coverage is deliberately limited but doesnt prevent them selling out US tours or joining Black Sabbath at their personal request. They only reveal what they want to reveal: chiefly that Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats began as a studio project circa 2009 in Cambridge, the wild concept of Kevin Starrs. The rest is academic.

Waxwork Records is thrilled to announce their next LP release to the 1982 horror anthology classic, CREEPSHOW. The film was directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King. The score was composed and performed by John Harrison (DAY OF THE DEAD, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE).

This definitive release of the film score has never before been released. The original master tapes of the CREEPSHOW film score were lost for over 30 years, but with the efforts of composer John Harrison and Waxwork Records, the tapes were located in the attic of Jeree Recording Studios in New Brighton, PA. The tapes remained in remarkable shape over the years and were re-mixed and re-mastered for vinyl. The CREEPSHOW score has never sounded this good.

Consider this simple fact: Even the smallest flowers crack concrete. It's enough to make one wonder what might happen if the Earth were freed from humankind's influence and simply left to its own devices-to regenerate, blossom, and grow wild. What wonders might spring from its soil? Scientists speculate that it would take only a century or two to wipe away the plants, crops, and animal species so carefully fashioned by humankind's industrious hand. In a few thousand years, the world might look exactly as it did before humanity came along: a wilderness. Take, for instance, New York City, considered by many the greatest city on Earth. Without humankind's interference, the repeated thawing and freezing of spring and winter would, within a decade, shatter the city's cement skin, allowing water to seep deep into the fertile ground below. Cracks would widen, deepen, and provide the soil from which exotic plant species, such as New York's prolific Chinese ailanthus tree, would grow. Within as little as five years, ailanthus roots would heave up the sidewalks and course through the sewers, while native Virginia creeper and poison ivy would adorn the city's skyscrapers. Within two decades, the water-soaked steel columns that support the street above the city's vast subway tunnels would give way, quickly transforming Lexington Avenue into a mighty river. Coyotes would find shelter in Central Park, to be soon followed by deer, bears, and wolves. Large oak trees would cover the land, while hawks and falcons would soar through the skies.

But let's not forget: We are also a product of Earth's rich soil, sharing even the most majestic creature's ability to strengthen, diversify, and cultivate the land; to create a world fit for work and play, where we can share happiness and nurture life. Indeed, Earth is a reservoir of such life, a treasure chest overflowing with the elements-the rocks, metals, clay, and other ingredients-with which we build our villages and cities, our most modest shelters and most breathtaking monuments: the skyscrapers that part the highest clouds, tunnels that connect the farthest lands, and bridges that cross the widest rivers. That the smallest flower can display as much strength as the tallest skyscraper is not an indictment against humanity. Instead, it is a testament to humankind's vast potential: to engineer a beauty rivaled only by Earth's natural magnificence.

SOLID PERFECT-SURFACE COPPER+ (PSC+) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors prevent both strand-to-strand contacts and magnetic interaction, major sources of distortion. Surface quality is critical because a conductor can be considered as a rail-guide for both the electric fields within a conductor, and for the magnetic fields outside the conductor. The astonishingly smooth and pure surface of all AudioQuest's Perfect-Surface metals nearly eliminates harshness and greatly increases clarity compared to all other premium coppers. The extreme purity of PSC+ further minimizes distortion caused by grain boundaries, which exist within any metal conductor.

DIELECTRIC-BIAS SYSTEM (DBS, US Pat #S 7,126,055 & 7,872,195 B1): Creates a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This dramatically reduces dielectric induced smearing of the signal, letting sound emerge from a "black" background.

CARBON-BASED 6-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION (NDS): Shields-the-shield, reducing RFI contamination of the equipment ground plane.

FEP AIR-TUBES (FEP IS A NOTABLY INERT FLUORO-POLYMER): Almost no contact between conductors and insulation reduces smearing and preserves dynamics.

TRIPLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Proper ground-reference conductor prevents using the shield as an inferior ground-reference conductor.

COLD-WELDED, HANGING-SILVER PLATING DIRECTLY OVER HIGH-PURITY RED COPPER PLUGS.

    Cohn on the Saxophone

    Pressed On Blue Colored Vinyl

Al Cohn first sprung on the national scene as one of the saxophonists on the Woody Herman hit Four Brothers, a crazy arrangement of Jeepers Creepers featuring each brother on a wild-and-crazy swingin' sax solo. Along with fellow brother Zoot Sims, Cohn became one of New York's leading sax men, forming with Sims a quintet that played in the hot beatnik jazz scene of the day, even backing up Jack Kerouac on a few poetry recordings.

Cohn on the Saxophone finds our man Cohn taking the lead on a series of great jazz standards. Al's sax voice on this session is smooth, lyrical; almost like he's talking to you or telling a story. Dig his smooth, supple playing on We Three, or the gorgeously blue-toned notes he hits on Singing The Blues -- Cohn is very much a man at home with his instrument, and the band lays back and lets him spin his tales.

When Cohn on the Saxophone was released, Downbeat magazine gave it the prestigious and rare five-star rating -- and almost 60 years down the pike it still sounds as vital and delicious as it did when it was released. This lost jazz classic is finally yours to enjoy again, pressed onto blue vinyl, and neatly slid into a beautifully restored package. Only on Modern Harmonic!

    Pusher Man

    Limited Edition Pressing

Everybody's favourite band, Uncle Acid, release a new single, Pusher Man on Rise Above Records. The single is backed by Remember Tomorrow, an Iron Maiden cover, initially available on a Kerrang (legendary UK magazine) cover-mount CD.

Pusher Man is taken from the bands fourth album, The Night Creeper, which was released to much acclaim in July of last year. The track was recorded as part of the album sessions at Toe Rag Studios in early 2015 with engineer Liam Watson (White Stripes, Tame Impala, Electric Wizard).

They released their breakthrough album Blood Lust in 2011, a homage to British Hammer and folk horror films of the 1970s, a candle-lit head-trip of withered hands, ritual knives and gallows ropes. Mind Control (2013), their third album, looked further afield, to the post-Charles Manson US for inspiration: Jim Jones dosing the Kool-Aid. Blue Cheer, Blue Oyster Cult and B-movie biker movies. War, Watergate, serial killers and suicidal TV evangelists.

    The Cats (Pre-Order)

In 1957, the greatest year for recorded music including modern jazz, Detroit was a hot spot, a centerpiece to many hometown heroes as well as short-term residents like John Coltrane and Miles Davis. It was here that Trane connected with pianist Tommy Flanagan, subsequently headed for the East Coast, and recorded this seminal hard bop album. In tow were fellow Detroiters -- drummer Louis Hayes, bassist Doug Watkins, and guitarist Kenny Burrell, with the fine trumpeter from modern big bands Idrees Sulieman as the sixth wheel.

From the opening number, the classic Minor Mishap, you realize something special is happening. Flanagan is energized, playing bright and joyous melody lines, comping and soloing like the blossoming artist he was. Coltrane is effervescent and inspired, hot off the presses from the Miles Davis Quintet and searching for more expressionism. The other hard bop originals, Eclypso and Solacium, easily burn with a cool flame not readily associated with East Coast jazz. Flanagan himself is the catalyst more than the horns -- dig his soaring, animated solo on Eclypso as he quotes Jeepers Creepers. The near 12-minute blues Tommy's Tune is the perfect vehicle for Burrell, a prelude for his classics of the same period All Day Long and All Night Long. The lone trio session, on the standard How Long Has This Been Going On?, is regarded as quintessential Flanagan, and quite indicative of the Midwestern Motor City flavor Flanagan and his many peers brought into the mainstream jazz of the day and beyond. One yearns for alternate takes of this session.

The Cats is a prelude to much more music from all of these masters that would come within a very short time period thereafter, and cannot come more highly recommended. It's a must-buy for the ages.
