    Salutations

Conor Oberst will release a new album, Salutations, on Nonesuch Records.

The album is a companion piece to 2016's lauded Ruminations. When Oberst wrote and recorded the songs on Ruminations, entirely solo-with just voice, piano, guitar and harmonica-he intended to ultimately record them with a full band. In the midst of putting together that band-upstate New York's The Felice Brothers plus the legendary drummer Jim Keltner (Neil Young, Jackson Browne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, and many more)-the passionate responses Oberst was getting to those first solo recordings, from friends and colleagues, encouraged him to release the songs as-is, in their original sparse form, as his seventh solo album: Ruminations, which was released in October 2016. The Sunday Times of London called it the rawest album yet from the forever troubled one-time voice of a generation and political and very, very personal, saying Oberst is one of the best songwriters around.

Meanwhile, Oberst simultaneously moved ahead with his plans to record with the band, heading to the famed Shangri-la Studios in Malibu to record Salutations-co-produced with Keltner and engineered by long-time musical compadre Andy LeMaster. Guest contributions come courtesy of Jim James, Blake Mills, Maria Taylor, M Ward, Gillian Welch, Gus Seyffert, Pearl Charles, Nathaniel Walcott, and Jonathan Wilson.

Salutations includes full-band versions of the ten songs from Ruminations, plus seven additional songs, some from an additional session at Five Star Studios in Echo Park in fall 2016.

Oberst says of the Salutations sessions: Jim was really the captain of the ship and the spiritual leader of the project. We leaned heavy on his fifty-plus years of musical insight to get us to where we needed to be. He brought such depth and dignity to the proceedings that made everyone else involved rise to the occasion. It was a true stroke of luck that he got involved when he did.

    Payola (Deluxe)

More than a decade after putting out their first album,
Desaparecidos return with a follow-up that breathes new life
into their brutal fusion of protest music and punk. Though the
band never truly parted ways, vocalist/guitarist Conor Oberst,
guitarist Denver Dalley, keyboardist Ian McElroy, bassist/vocalist
Landon Hedges, and drummer Matt Baum have spent much of the
past 13 years pursuing other ambitions (including Oberst's work
as a solo artist and Bright Eyes frontman). Fueling their Epitaph
Records debut Payola with the same spirit of unrest that propelled
2002's Read Music/Speak Spanish, Desaparecidos now match
that passion with a fuller, more furious sound and gut-punching
commentary on everything from immigration reform and the healthcare
debate to gun control and Wall Street bailouts.

With its title capturing what McElroy calls "these endless
examples of what's wrong with the whole money culture happening
in America today," Payola was co-produced by the band and their
longtime collaborator Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, The Faint, Man
Man). Recorded in several bursts over the past few years at ARC
Studios in Omaha, the album's 14 tracks pack a barrage of outcry
and insight into each sharply crafted lyric while storming forward
with a ferocious energy. And in their implausibly melodic
blend of blistering riffs, lead-heavy rhythms, and savage vocal
work, Desaparecidos reveal a bottled-up intensity that suggests
a band whose chemistry's stronger than ever before. "It wasn't
like we were trying to recapture some former glory," says Oberst
of Desaparecidos' long-planned reunion in the studio. "It was
like we had to do this, and we had to do it now."

Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis

A one-night-only concert was held at New York City's Town Hall last fall, to celebrate the music of the Coen brothers film Inside Llewyn Davis. The evening was filmed for a documentary that was broadcast by Showtime last winter, and now Nonesuch Records releases a live recording of the concert, Another Day, Another Time: Celebrating the Music of "Inside Llewyn Davis,"on January 13, 2015. The concert, documentary, and live album were produced by Inside Llewyn Davis writer/director/producers Joel and Ethan Coen and soundtrack producer T Bone Burnett. (Nonesuch also released the film's soundtrack.)

As Burnett explains, "Inside Llewyn Davis was filled with live performances of some of the folk songs that had survived the McCarthy hearings. Some of the songs were a hundred years old; some had just been written but sounded a hundred years old. In order to get attention for a film that was not exactly on the beat we decided to throw a concert featuring the actors and musicians who had performed in the movie and on the soundtrack. We also invited members of the extraordinary community of musicians who have coalesced around this old music-and have kept it alive in the wake of the most recent technological revolution-to join us that night. We asked them to perform an old song and one of their new songs.

He continues, "Several new stars emerged from their performances that evening-The Secret Sisters, Lake Street Dive, The Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens, and Punch Brothers all proved themselves as good as the best as they took the stage next to Hall of Famers Joan Baez and Elvis Costello, and established younger artists like The Avett Brothers, Colin Meloy, Marcus Mumford, Conor Oberst, Willie Watson, Gillian Welch, and Jack White." In fact, T Bone Burnett has since produced albums by both Punch Brothers and Rhiannon Giddens, which will be released shortly after Another Day, Another Time.

Huffington Post called Another Day, Another Time "one of those only-in-New-York events," while Rolling Stone said it was "a bustling salute to the sounds and the idea of Sixties folk music," and continued, "For all the formality of the night, which was exceedingly well-paced and organized, the concert recalled a time when one or two people, bearing one or two unplugged instruments, could be as enthralling as the greatest rock or EDM track."

    Ruminations

This past winter, Conor Oberst found himself hibernating in his hometown of Omaha after living in New York City for more than a decade. He emerged with the unexpectedly raw, unadorned solo album Ruminations, available on Nonesuch Records. I wasn't expecting to write a record, says Oberst. I honestly wasn't expecting to do much of anything. Winter in Omaha can have a paralyzing effect on a person but in this case it worked in my favor. I was just staying up late every night playing piano and watching the snow pile up outside the window. Next thing I knew I had burned through all the firewood in the garage and had more than enough songs for a record. I recorded them quick to get them down but then it just felt right to leave them alone.

Oberst went to ARC, the studio he built with his Bright Eyes bandmate and longtime friend Mike Mogis, to record that music. With the help of engineer Ben Brodin, he recorded all the songs in the span of 48 hours. The results are almost sketch-like in their sparseness, and they ultimately became the songs that comprise Ruminations. These tracks do not have the multi-layered instrumentation of the most recent Bright Eyes and solo albums: This is Oberst alone with his guitar, piano, and harmonica; the songs connect with some of the rough magic and anxious poetry that first brought him to the attention of the world, while their lyrical complexity and concerns make it obvious they could only have been written in the present. Conor Oberst has several live dates scheduled, including intimate solo performances in November and December at venues such as New York's Carnegie Hall and Nashville's Ryman Audtorium.

The debut album for Bright Eyes was compiled from 4 reels of analog 4-track recordings which Conor Oberst had made prior to his 18th birthday. Conor spent most all of his teenage years touring and playing music with bands such as Commander Venus and Park Ave. Now, he has focused his efforts on Bright Eyes, the moniker by which he shares his intimate and personal stories. The 20 songs on this album are stated elegantly and humbly with guitars, keyboards, drums, and voice. Oberst's imagery and storytelling is at times quite sad and other times rather uplifting, yet always exhibits sophistication.

Conor Oberst's new self-titled solo release was made in Tepoztlßn, Morelos, M?xico, a place known for Aztec magic and extra-terrestrial sightings. A temporary studio was constructed in a mountain villa called Valle M?stico at the outskirts of town and a special band called The Mystic Valley Band was assembled for the recording. The album was produced by Conor Oberst and engineer/long time associate, Andy LeMaster. It was there at Valle M?stico that Oberst and the band lived and worked in near perfect harmony, often unaware of the hour or the day. The result is his first solo album in thirteen years, following Water (1993), HereÆs To Special Treatment (1994) and Soundtrack To My Movie (1995). In that time Conor Oberst has recorded and performed in many bands and musical projects including Commander Venus, Park Ave., Desaparecidos and most notably Bright Eyes, his main musical vehicle for the past decade.

"Upstate New York rockers the Felice Brothers are among the most compelling
young bands leading the resurgence of Americana music,
and they prove it each night, onstage."

Catskill Mountains-based five piece The Felice Brothers have released 4 official albums and toured the world several
times over with artists such as Mumford and Sons, Conor Oberst, Old Crow Medicine Show and The Killers since their
2006 inception. They've played such renowned festivals as Coachella, Bonnaroo and Newport Folk and
received accolades from Rolling Stone, Spin, New York Times, The Guardian and countless others.

The Felice Brothers' new album, Favorite Waitress, was recorded with the band's longtime producer Jeremy Backofen

Conor Oberst And The Mystic Valley Band: Outer South

While touring in support of Conor Oberst's self-titled debut, Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band began to write new songs. Each band member shared their compositions and worked them out on the road. Energized by the live performances, and eager to capture the synergy they felt onstage, Oberst took his musical compadres to Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, Texas outside of El Paso. In recording sessions in November and December of '08, The Mystic Valley Band recorded 16 songs, this time they shared the songwriting duties. The result, the sparkling Outer South is the first album credited to Conor Oberst And The Mystic Valley Band and features the fruits of their enticing musical symbiosis. Oberst's songwriting and delivery remain an engaging presence, but the addition of songs by Taylor Hollingsworth, Nik Freitas and Jason Boesel make for a multi-textured and colorful collaboration. Along with Oberst, Boesel, Hollingsworth and Freitas, The Mystic Valley Band includes Macey Taylor and Nathaniel Walcott.

    Upside Down Mountain

Though only 34, Conor Oberst has been a recording artist for more than two decades, starting with raw, acoustic guitar-based bedroom tracks he cut as a young teenager and initially released on cassette. After his early Omaha-based band Commander Venus broke up, Oberst recast himself as Bright Eyes, an umbrella name for Oberst, producer-keyboardist Mike Mogis and multi-instrumentalist/arranger Nathaniel Wolcott, and a shifting group of collaborators. By the time he released Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground on Saddle Creek, the label he helped found with friends in Omaha, Oberst was a word-of-mouth success, with an avid young audience that helped to sell out his tours. The critics soon followed. Rolling Stone called him "a true American original: the ghost of Walt Whitman setting up shop in the wraith-white, rail-thin frame of an acoustic-strumming Nebraska Cure fan." The 2005 simultaneous release of two markedly different Bright Eyes albums-the more singer-songwriter-oriented I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and the darker, computerized Digital Ash in a Digital Urn-displayed the breadth of his talent. Time Magazine listed I'm Wide Awake among its top 10 albums of the year. Since then, Bright Eyes has continued to evolve, its lineup morphing with each successive tour. While supporting his 2007 Cassadaga album, Oberst took over New York City's Town Hall for a week of sold-out shows, with his large, string-augmented ensemble outfitted spectacularly in white suits. He's also recorded and toured with Mogis, Jim James, and M. Ward as Monsters of Folk as well as with his own Mystic Valley Band. For the first leg of his summer 2014 tour, he's bringing along Wilson's other pals, the Southern Californian quartet Dawes as his support act and backing band.

"I feel lucky that I have been able to do this for as longs as I have," declares Oberst. "I've seen so many talented friends come and go, for a lot of different reasons. Sometimes they stop making music because they can't pay the bills or they lose the passion for it. At this point it is my life. I don't know another way to live. There is something fundamental in myself; I have to be this way. It completes what I am."

Upside Down Mountain features many other friends of Oberst's, including producer Jonathan Wilson, engineer Andy LeMaster, bassist Macey Taylor, multi-instrumentalist Blake Mills, and the Swedish sibling folk-rock vocal duo First Aid Kit. What started as exploratory demos with producer-musician Jonathan Wilson at his Fivestar Studios in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, in a home Wilson rents from Oberst, became the first de facto album sessions. Returning to his native Omaha, Nebraska, Oberst kept rolling with the help of frequent collaborator, engineer, and friend Andy LeMaster at his own ARC Studios. Even more tracking followed in Omaha last November and December. Then Oberst and Wilson moved south to Blackbird Studio in Nashville.

"This is a return to an earlier way I wrote," Oberst says of the songs on Upside Down Mountain. "It's more intimate or personal, if you will. Even if all my songs come from the same place, you make different aesthetic decisions along the way. For me, language is a huge part of why I make music. I'm not the greatest guitar player or piano player-I'm not the greatest singer, either-but I feel if I can come up with melodies I like that are fused with poetry I'm proud of, then that's what I bring to the table. That's why I'm able to do this."

One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels

The collaboration One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels is the fruit of a long-time musical appreciation between Bright Eyes and Neva Dinova. Featuring four new songs in addition to six from the original 2004 Crank! Records release, One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels is less of a split and more of a bonafide collaboration. Dividing the songwriting duties, the original tracks were recorded by Conor Oberst and Jake Bellows in basements of houses on quiet, leafy streets in Omaha in the fall of 2003. Those tracks were mixed and tweaked by famed producer-in-residence Mike Mogis at his Presto! Studios in Lincoln, Nebraska. The groups reconvened in the fall of 2009 to write and record four new tracks at Mogis's renowned ARC Studios in Omaha for the reissue.

Of the album, Taylor Goldsmith (guitar, vocals) explains, "Pretty much every song on this record explores a difficult situation and tries to find a way to find the good in it, or at least remind yourself that it's not always that big of a deal. After all, as scary as it is, we are all gonna die."

The album was produced by Grammy nominated producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes) and includes backing vocals from Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe of Lucius, Mandy Moore and Will Oldham.

Dawes has toured extensively playing headline shows worldwide and major festival appearances including Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and Newport Folk Festival. Recently, they have toured with My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan, Mumford and Sons, Conor Oberst, and Jackson Browne.

In the fall of 2014, Goldsmith contributed to Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes, an album project which found collaborators Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Marcus Mumford (Mumford & Sons) and producer T Bone Burnett writing and creating music for a treasure trove of recently discovered lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan in 1967 during the period that generated the recording of the legendary Basement Tapes.

Fellow collaborator Jim James proclaims about We're All Gonna Die, "The record sounds so fresh-yet fills me with a strange nostalgia for things that haven't happened yet...I hear it at the beach and blasting out of car windows on future summer nights...easily having become a natural part of people's lives."

    One Of My Kind

Includes 60-minute DVD Documentary on The Story of the Mystic Valley Band & Outtakes from Band Sessions on 180g LP/CD

Phil Schaffart was not hired by Conor Oberst to make the film One of My Kind. He was hired to make sure the guitars stayed in tune. But Phil had a video camera with him as the Mystic Valley Band came together for the first time at Valle Místico in Tepoztlán, Mexico in January of 2008 and so he started filming what he sensed was something special.

"When I started filming, none of us had the intentions of turning what was being shot into a film," says Phil, "but the things we were seeing, feeling and capturing with the music proved to be inspiring in ways we were not prepared for."

Later that year after touring for the Conor's self-titled Merge release, the Mystic Valley Band went back into the studio, this time at the Sonic Ranch outside of El Paso, Texas where they recorded their follow-up release, Outer South. This album was a reflection of what the MVB had become over the preceding 10 months. Now, the song writing was no longer Conor's sole responsibility as the other members of the band all spread their own musical and compositional wings. All the while, Phil continued to film what was going on with the band, capturing the year of touring, the almond orchards in Texas, the temples and steep cliffs of Mexico and the evolution of a group of musicians that started as not much more than an idea for a different way to make a record, and ended up being a fully realized rock band.

"Something was happening between the six members of the band musically that was effortless and natural in a way I had not seen before;" Phil continues: "In Texas we started thinking that the footage could be turned into a documentary film." Phil returned to Omaha later and enlisted the help of the H Minus Production team and after many grueling hours in the edit suite, a film was born.

Team Love is proud to release the final version of the film, One of My Kind as as 60-minute documentary. To accompany this, they are including eleven songs compiled from the outtakes of both Mystic Valley Band sessions on 180g vinyl LP and CD. It's a release for those that were lucky enough to experience the magic and excitement of the Mystic Valley Band when their jackets were still clean and their chemistry was bursting with ideas and potential.

    Heretic Pride

The Mountain Goats have recorded four fine albums that have established them as a genuine cult phenomenon and confirmed John Darnielle's status as one of the finest lyricists of his generation. Heretic Pride is a suite of songs about mythical creatures, imaginary cults, slasher films, and pulp fiction novelists. Here, Darnielle has also come up with some of the most anthemic, impassioned, and downright catchy songs of his career. It's rare to come across such specific and purposeful prose in modern pop. But, alongside Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and the Decemberists' Colin Meloy, John Darnielle is helping bring fine lyric writing back to life - NY Daily News.

    New Ocean

Neva Dinova frontman Jake Bellows enlisted old friends Ben Brodin (engineer at ARC Studios and Conor Oberst sideman), Ryan Fox (The Good Life), Todd Fink (The Faint), and Heath Koontz (Neva Dinova) for help in the making of New Ocean, his solo debut.

The songs? A mix tape of gauzy introspection, winsome upbeat rockers, left turns into drunk-in-the-sun bossa nova, blued-eyed soul as ruptured by a fuzzed-out guitar solo, and a song that tries to change the fabric of the universe by the very frequencies it emits.

    The Embers Of Time

A talent to outrank Ryan Adams or Conor Oberst - Uncut

He's found a way to encapsulate all the dichotomies of life and make them work within the confines of a three-minute pop song. - Popmatters

"It's my surreal expat therapy record," observes Josh Rouse about his new LP, The Embers of Time. A career peak, The Embers of Time takes inspiration from his self-admitted crisis of confidence and bouts with existential psychotherapy in his adopted home of Valencia, Spain.

The 10-song collection of originals contains some of Rouse's most beautiful arrangements and complex songwriting to date. First song and lead single "Some Days I'm Golden All Night" channels Glen Campbell-style Countrypolitan pop mastery through 'Self Portrait'-era Dylan confessional lyrics.

Rouse has been called "one of contemporary music's most engaging singer-songwriters" (NPR) as well as "a talent to outrank Ryan Adams or Conor Oberst" (Uncut), and with The Embers of Time he opens a new chapter in his lauded career. He split time recording the album between Valencia and Nashville, and enlisted Brad Jones (Justin Townes Earle) as producer. The record moves from the hushed twang of "Time," where Josh recalls a stepfather who died too young and muses about his own mortality, to the deceptively sunny album closer "Crystal Falls," which recounts a rare period of solace from his itinerant childhood. "In Crystal Falls I made a few good friends," he sings. "It was just another stop. I never saw them again."

Originally hailing from rural Nebraska, Rouse has carved out a distinguished career as a top-tier musician. His last record, 'The Happiness Waltz' earned unanimous praise, with AllMusic calling it "absolutely beautiful, like 10cc producing Al Green."

    Dead Fingers

Taylor Hollingsworth and Kate Taylor singing together is a match made in heaven. You might know Taylor from previous solo albums or bands but most likely from Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band. He was the guitar player who also wrote and sang Snake Hill and Air Mattress on the album Outer South. If youve seen Maria Taylor play then you have most likely seen Kate in her band either playing keys, drums, or bass, and most importantly, harmonizing the soft beautiful background melodies. Nowadays, Kate and Taylor have joined forces in the band Dead Fingers.

In a time when guy-girl duos are becoming quite popular, this one is not just some gimmick, however perfect the timing and package may be. In fact, this Alabama duo are recently married and the two just recorded their first self titled full-length with Bruce Watson (RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough , AA Bondy), and it is being released on Big Legal Mess/Fat Possum Records.

While showing a wide range of styles, ranging from duet styled songs like those of John Prine and Iris DeMent, X, or Lee Hazelwood and Ann Margaret, to straight up great classic rock bands like the Stones, Beatles, or even Traveling Wilburys, this band should find a nice home with fans of more current duos like She and Him, Jenny and Johnny and Civil Wars.
