Drastic Plastic Records is delighted to offer the third and all-around best record of Southern California legends the Circle Jerks: Golden Shower of Hits.

The Circle Jerks (along with Black Flag, both of which had Keith Morris as an original vocalist) have come to typify the last great youth movement in America: The hardcore punk movement of the late 1970s and early 80s.

Golden Shower of Hits is the last album to be recorded by the band's original lineup of Keith Morris, Greg Hetson, Roger Rogerson and Lucky Lehrer, and where its predecessor Wild in the Streets (also available from DPR) took a more sardonic and heavier tone, Golden Shower of Hits is SoCal hardcore reveling in its most authentic, sincere, obnoxious, political, hilarious roots.

    The Record

Along with Black Flag and The Circle Jerks, Fear ushered in a new face of gritty, fast, angry punk rock which would later be called hardcore by some dedicated fans. While Black Flag and The Circle Jerks represented west coast inner suburb, art damaged nerds, Fear offered a sometimes sophisticated, sometimes offensive, always musically innovative antagonism that owed as much to stand up comedy and college boy saracasm as it did to the glam punk bands who came before them. Keep in mind that Fear was reportedly one of John Belushis favorite punk bands and he even managed to get them booked on an episode of SNL. Featuring: Lets Have A War and I Love Living In The City.

Led by the revered Johnny Peebucks of legendary punk group The Swingin' Utters on vocals
and Matt Grayson's ripping guitar, this second release from Bay Area's Druglords combines the
punk stylings of The Dwarves and Circle Jerks with more varied influences like Pogues and
Pixies. Some wild rhythms, audacious lyrics, and crafty guitar leads make for an eclectic
13-song record of rowdy, singalong punk rock. Plus, we think there might be a Christmas song on here? Bing would be so proud!

    Where Were You Then?

Further was a decidedly west coast indie rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1991 by brothers Darren and Brent Rademaker, Josh Schwartz and Kevin Fitzgerald. The Rademaker brothers along with Josh went on to form Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde respectively, Kevin Fitzgerald became the drummer for the Circle Jerks and the west coast lo-fi California indie rock sound actually became a thing with the kids. Overdosing on Weed, Surfing and Dinosaur Jrs You're Living All Over Me as well as flat out turning down major label offers, Further was fuelled by DIY spirit and their music tested the boundaries from the lowest of fidelity to the indie-est of rock...with re-leases on Bongload Records (home of Beck's Loser 12), their own Christmas Records, Ball Product (Creation Records), Fierce Panda and many more. Further received acclaim from the UK press including a 9 out of 10 review in the NME as well as Peel Session from long time fan John Peel. Further were a permanent fixtures on the LA indie scene where they shared bills with eve-ryone from the likes of Pavement, Beck, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Royal Trux, Urge Overkill, Archers of Loaf, Codiene...real indie-rock, you get the picture? Friends of Lou Barlow from Dino-saur Jr, Further had a knack of exploding into Dinosaurs sonic territory. When Further went on tour with Sebadoh in the 90s, Lou was asked by the NME if he had anything to say to J Mas-cis...? Lou replied smugly...ever heard FURTHER? This record compiles the best of the singles and EP tracks from 1991 to 1997 all re-mastered from the original vinyl.

    If I'm The Devil...

letlive.'s new album, If I'm the Devil is a strident, principled and heavy work. It's also perfectly suited for someone who just wants to pound on the steering wheel after a hard day at school, work, or whatever institution happens to command most of your waking life. Just consider the name "letlive." - it's meant to be life-affirming above all else.

Frontman Jason Aalon Bulter has an ambitious nature which takes him to extremely lofty places. He acknowledges that letlive. is a punk band and one that reflects humanity
as a collection of emotional, frontal-lobe beings. At the same time, he fully believes that letlive. can access that utopian, inexplicable transcendental quality that allows art
to reach budding revolutionaries the way books and other oratory cannot.

letlive. continually refuse to be constrainedby the ideas of "scene" - whether letlive. is punk, metalcore, indie, rap, whatever, Butler finds these labels to be another form of systematic oppression. He grew up with Black Flag and Circle Jerks as well as 2Pacalypse and Xzibit's At the Speed of Life - it's all revolutionary counterculture music to him.

"Punk is more an ideology than a scene dictated by what pants you wear. What are you saying, what do you believe in? That's to me a better identifier." If their new album, If I'm the Devil needs a genre, Butler would call it "revolutionary counterculture music" , like a more emotional Rage Against the Machine, or Public Enemy with more inclusive politics. Butler grew up as a skater disillusioned with what he saw as a heteronormative, patriarchal punk rock scene until the older kids showed him black artists such as Bad Brains, Living Colour and Fishbone. "Punk rock is inclusive if you want to be included," Butler states, recognizing how letlive. can speak for people who feel they lack representation.

    The Punch Line

The Minutemen may have come out of the same California hardcore scene that produced Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and Fear, but they not only bore little resemblance to their West Coast contemporaries, they didn't sound much like anyone else in American rock at that time. The Punch Line was the band's first album, packing 18 tunes into less than 25 minutes, and if the music shares hardcore's lust for speed and assaultive rhythmic punch, their sharp, fragmented melodies, complex tempos, and overtly poetic and political lyrics made clear they were rugged individuals; imagine James Blood Ulmer teaching Wire how to get funky and you start to get an idea of what The Punch Line sounds like. It wasn't until the band began to slow down a bit on What Makes a Man Start Fires? that the strength of the group's individual songs became clear, and The Punch Line works better as a unified sonic assault than as a collection of tunes, but moments do stand out, especially Tension, Fanatics, and the title cut, which certainly lends a new perspective to Native American history. The Punch Line was as wildly inventive as anything spawned by American punk, and the band would only get better on subsequent releases.

    Salvation Town

    Limited Audiophile Pressing by RTI

    Deluxe Gatefold Package

Salvation Town, the surprising and powerful solo debut by Jonny Two Bags,
guitarist for the Southern California punk rock institution Social Distortion,
defies expectations at every turn. Produced by David Kalish, noted for his long
association with Rickie Lee Jones, at his Redstar Studio in Los Angeles, the
album features 10 striking original songs written by Jonny Two Bags, a.k.a.
    Jonny Wickersham.

A diverse array of talent that spans the musical spectrum
was enlisted for the recording. Jackson Browne shares vocals with Wickersham
on "Then You Stand Alone," while David Lindley, whose guitar work graced
several of Browne's classic '70s albums, contributes to four tracks. Los Lobos'
multi-instrumentalist David Hidalgo and his sons David Jr. and Vincent join in
on "Wayward Cain" and super-sideman Greg Leisz (Lucinda Williams, Eric
Clapton, k.d. lang, Dave Alvin) also appears on guitar. The drum chair is filled
by Pete Thomas, a mainstay of Elvis Costello's bands. Wickersham's colleagues in Social Distortion, keyboardist Danny McGough
and bassist Brent Harding, join on a few tracks while Austin accordion luminary Joel Guzman and bassist/punk kingpin Zander
Schloss (Weirdos, Circle Jerks, Thelonious Monster) round out the lineup.

Sure The Doldrums and Worn Copy had some hits and humdingers on them, but Ariel Pink's 2002 album House Arrest never lets up. Its hit after hit after hit. Sorta like if you listened to your friends boom box mix tape from Top 40 radio around 1985.

Think you've heard enough Ariel Pink? Well our favorite omnivorous media junkie from LA still has a few tricks left up his sleevelike the left-of-center House Arrest. Sure The Doldrums and Worn Copy had some hits and humdingers on them, but House Arrest never lets up. It's hit after hit after hit. Sorta like if you listened to your friend's boom box mix tape from Top 40 radio around 1985. Some people might think that sounds like a recipe for disaster. We say bring on the Doritos.

Originally released in 2002 as part of a split double-CD set, then re-released with a couple of bonus tracks (including the multipart epic Netherlands) in 2006, House Arrest, much like every other Ariel Pink release so far, provides a small sampling of Ariel Rosenberg's self-recorded compositions, laid down on a trusty eight-track at home. Unlike so many warbling troubadours who seem to think the recorded-in-a-bedroom approach means a license to be maudlin, Rosenberg brings an exuberant joy to his work, finding something that a full band recording might actually kill the spirit of. The queasy tones and gently distanced verses of the opening Hardcore Pops Are Fun is instant put-a-smile-on-your-face stuff, helping to set the tone for the whole collection. The demented synth pop merriment of Flying Circles suggests an '80s nugget swathed in psychedelic haze, a gentle breeziness apparent on many other songs like the giddy Every Night I Die at Miyagis or the nervous funk of Alisa, easily one of the best songs on the album thanks to some exquisite vocals in particular. Though his connection to personal hero R. Stevie Moore is often mentioned, Rosenberg's role model here often seems to be Andy Partridge instead -- check out the distinctly XTC-like hiccupping on Gettin' High in the Morning, not to mention the quick herky-jerk arrangements. Rosenberg's preference to add layers of echo on his voice means sometimes his lyrics only emerge in fits and starts, but when they do they often are wryly witty or amusingly theatrical -- it fits with the amusing rock pose on the back cover, a knowing embrace of a trope. So when he sings about how West Coast calamities are worth more than the East Coast variety or how he's one of those egomaniacs who just want to siiiing, who's to deny how he plays around with the ideas?

The MC5, born out of the ashes of industrial Detroit, recorded only 3 full-length albums and lasted less than a decade but left an indelible stain on the world of Rock & Roll both musically and culturally. Like their Detroit brothers The Stooges, they helped lay the initial groundwork for the punk movement with a simple, hard-driving, high energy, loud and gritty style of Rock that includes elements of garage rock, hard rock, blues and psychedelic rock.

Whether proven or otherwise, they influenced a laundry list of hard rockers such as Bad Brains, Black Flag, the Damned, Circle Jerks, Husker Du, The Melvins, The Dead Kennedys, The New York Dolls, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, the White Stripes and many more. They are widely considered one of the most important and influential hard rock bands of the era.

This limited, numbered, color vinyl, Run Out Groove release is the first legitimate vinyl compilation of the band's Elektra and Atlantic recordings and belongs on every Rock collector's shelf, if not for the sonic music assault then the audacious packaging alone. This record provides a killer ensemble of tracks from their halcyon days, including the original uncensored version of "Kick Out the Jams." Stick alive with the MC5 and f%@! Run Out Groove!
