The Great Twenty-Eight (Pre-Order) (On Sale)

The Great Twenty-Eight is a compilation album of Chuck Berry, originally released in 1982 on Chess Records.

A survey of Berry's first decade of recording on Chess Records, it contains 21 singles along with six of their b-sides and one album track from Chuck Berry in London. Of those singles, eleven were top ten hits on the Billboard R&B singles chart and ten were Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2003, the album was ranked number 21 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, the second-highest ranking compilation on the list after The Sun Sessions by Elvis Presley.

Chuck Berry's Landmark First Album - Includes 3 Bonus Tracks

First Time Exclusive Audiophile Vinyl And Stunning First Time Gatefold Cover

Mastered From The Authorized Chess Records' Mono Tapes By Joe Reagoso

Chuck Berry is an American original. There will never be another Chuck Berry, nor anyone in the music industry who could influence
generations upon generations of aspiring rock 'n rollers like Chuck has.

Celebrating six decades in the music business, this East St. Louis native initially captivated millions of kids in the fifties with his first
recordings like Maybellene and Roll Over Beethoven. He drove the rockers mad with his famous guitar licks, poetic lyrics and dynamic
    presence on the stage.

Introduced to Chess Records by fellow blues rocker Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry hit a goldmine immediately with his arsenal of tunes
that he presented to Phil and Leonard Chess. These great songs culminated into a handful of top charting singles which led to his first
    legendary album After School Session.

Kicking things off with one of the monumental rock and roll records of all time School Day (Ring Ring Goes The Bell), Chuck Berry
roars through a bevy of 11 more home runs which made this one of the most important and emulated albums of all time. The album features
classic gems like Brown Eyed Handsome Man, Too Much Monkey Business, Havana Moon and No Money Down. Noted for his stellar guitar
work, pretty much introducing the turnaround riff to a whole new generation of guitar players, After School Session was truly a primer for a
ton of rock and blues artists for years like Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Johnny Winter, The Animals and
    The Yardbirds.

Chuck Berry was more than a rock 'n roll genius. He was a natural poet. He could rhyme. He could compose lyrically two and three
minute musical stories about the everyday man and woman, about the struggles of being a teenager, about romance, about cars, about
faraway places, about dancing, and most notably about rock 'n rollin.'

His unconventional approach to music was unlike that of anyone before him. He opened the doors for millions of music fans around
the world to enjoy rock and blues, making him one of the first pioneers of the popular recording business that we all enjoy to this day.

    CHUCK

Chuck Berry, the father of rock & roll, is releasing his first album in nearly 40 years, which is comprised mostly of new, original songs written, recorded and produced by the legend himself. 'CHUCK' was recorded in various studios around St. Louis and features Berry's longtime hometown backing group - including his children Charles Berry Jr. (guitar) and Ingrid Berry (harmonica), plus Jimmy Marsala (Berry's bassist of forty years), Robert Lohr (piano), and Keith Robinson (drums) - which has supported him for over two decades on over two hundred residency shows at the famed Blueberry Hill club. This record is dedicated to my beloved Toddy, said Berry, referring to his wife of 68 years, Themetta Berry. My darlin' I'm growing old! I've worked on this record for a long time. San Francisco Dues

Not much is talked about of Rock N' Roll legend Chuck Berry's work during the 1970s. (Unless you
count his novelty hit "My Ding-A-Ling.) Though he would remain a prevalent live fixture for much of the
decade, his studio work slowed to a crawl. It was during this time that Berry returned to Chess
Records from his previous association with Mercury, to release the overlooked San Francisco Dues
in 1971. The album remained obscure and largely unnoticed, but remains a fascinating glimpse into
Berry's musical mind, and is now looked upon by critics as a forgotten great.

The album showcases a different side of Chuck Berry. His signature blend of pioneering rock n' roll
music would give way to a more somber and contemporary (For the 1970s) sound. Berry's more
serious side is on display on yearning tracks like Oh Louisiana, and fragile numbers like My Dream
(Poem) which features Berry on piano. The album paints a solemn, never-before-seen portrait of
Berry, and still finds room for traditionally rocking tracks like Viva Rock & Roll and the title track
    San Francisco Dues.
Though San Francisco Dues has received newfound retrospective acclaim from critics, it has never
been reissued on compact disc. Now in 2013, Get On Down is glad to change that, reissuing the
oft-forgotten Chuck Berry gem on vinyl, painstakingly re-mastered and re-created with the same level
of care and detail that have come to define the Boston label's reissues. A bygone classic from one of
    rock n' roll's great trailblazers.

The evolution from blues to rock accelerated with the Rolling Stones' second American LP. They turned soul into guitar rock for the hits It's All Over Now and Time Is on My Side (the latter of which was their first American Top Ten single). 2120 South Michigan Avenue is a great instrumental blues-rock jam; Around and Around is one of their best Chuck Berry covers; and If You Need Me reflects an increasing contemporary soul influence. On the other hand, the group originals (except for the propulsive Empty Heart) are weak and derivative, indicating that the band still had a way to go before it could truly challenge the Beatles' throne.

The full-length debut by the man known as the Originator of rock and roll should need no introduction. Though never a top seller on par with his Chess Records rival Chuck Berry, Bo produced a catalog of classics to compete with all but a handful of the best early rockers, pushing rock and roll to its funkiest ever. The Bo Diddley beatthat bomp, ba-bomp-bomp, bompbomp to which the pop-garage 1965 hit I Want Candy by the Strangeloves owes everythingis one of rock and rolls bedrock rhythms, showing up in the work of Buddy Holly, the Velvet Underground, and the Rolling Stones to
name but a few. An all time classic that stretched back as far as Africa for its roots, and looked as far into the future as rap, while still remaining a milestone in the transition from blues to early rock and roll.

The world is mourning the loss of rock and roll pioneer
Chuck Berry. The iconic guitarist, singer and songwriter
passed away Saturday at his home at the age of 90.

His impact on popular music cannot be underestimated.
John Lennon once commented: "If you tried to give rockand-
roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry,'".
Berry refined and developed rhythm and blues into the
major elements that made rock and roll distinctive. Writing
clever lyrics that focused on teen life and consumerism and
developing a signature style that included guitar solos and
showmanship, Berry was a major influence on subsequent
    rock music.

"One Dozen Berrys" was the second studio album by Berry,
released in 1958. "Rockin' at the Hops" was his fourth studio
album, released in 1960. Its opening track, "Bye Bye Johnny",
is a sequel to Berry's earlier hit, "Johnny B. Goode". "New
Juke Box Hits", his fifth studio album, was released in 1961.
It was recorded and released while Berry was in the midst
of legal difficulties, which led to his imprisonment in 1962.
Also presented here are several bonus tracks, including
"Back in the U.S.A.", a top 40 hit in 1959.

    Complete Animals

First Ever 3 LP Version Of This Animals Best-Of

This triple vinyl package includes the complete sessions that The Animals recorded with producer Mickie Most in 1964 and 1965. The 40 songs capture the band at their peak, including most of their best and biggest hits: House of the Rising Sun, Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood, Bring It on Home To Me, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, I'm Crying, It's My Life and Boom Boom.

Many of these songs are covers of vintage R&B/rock tunes by Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and the like. The Animals produced some great album tracks, such as I'm Mad Again (originally by John Lee Hooker), Worried Life Blues, and Bury My Body.

After leaving Most, the group would maintain their peak for another year or so despite the departure of one of Rock's all-time finest organists, Alan Price. have all gone on to influence generations upon generations of rock and blues performers worldwide.

With almost six decades in the music business, this Mississippi native began his career cutting early sides for defunct labels
before landing in Chicago in the early forties, where he began a long climb to the top of the blues world, later cutting a series of
hit sessions for Aristocrat which became Chess Records. Phil and Leonard Chess knew they had a kingpin on their hands when
Muddy started his endless stream of blues smashes. The label honored the man with his first live album simply titled Muddy Waters
At Newport 1960. Recorded at the Newport Jazz Festival, Muddy drove the crowd into a frenzy with his famous guitar licks and his
Delta growl, truly a thrilling presence on the stage.

    Twin Peaks

Mountain is a band of American hard rockers from New York who broke up in 1972 and reunited a year later, remaining active today. They are best known for their cowbell-tinged song Mississippi Queen, as well as for their performance at the famous Woodstock Festival in 1969.

Mountain is one of many bands to be commonly credited as having influenced the development of heavy metal music in the 70s. The group's musical style primarily consisted of hard rock, blues rock and heavy metal.

Twin Peaks was their second live album and was recorded in Osaka, Japan in 1973. It featured the long version (32+ minutes!) of Nantucket Sleigh Ride which is spread over two sides, and the classic Chuck Berry penned Roll Over Beethoven, Mississippi Queen and Theme For An Imaginary Western.

    Bo Diddley Is A Lover

Mastered From The Original Chess Mono Reels

Delivering a devastating punch to rock's early '60s doldrums, Bo Diddley Is a Lover bursts at the seams with Bo's uncompromising, rockin' beat. Yep. Industry and the government may have cleaned up fellow '50s rockers like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis and Gene Vincent, but they didn't get to Bo -- a defiant rocker to the core.

By the time of the 1961 sessions for this album, Bo had relocated from Chicago to DC, to record at his own home studio. He used his artistic freedom to his complete advantage, churning out a series of killer records unfettered by bureaucratic interference. Considered the pinnacle of his collaboration with Lady Bo (aka, Peggy Jones), Is a Lover is also one of Bo's most diverse. Along with rockers like "Hong Kong, Mississippi" and "Bo Diddley Is Loose," the LP also features fantastic instrumentals such as "Congo," straight blues ("Bo's Blues," that is), a call-and-answer with old sparring partner Jerome Green ("Bo's Vacation") and the fabulous ballad, "Love Is a Secret," with backing vocals from a young DC girl group, the Impalas (who would hit the charts three years later as the Jewels). On this album, they're also in fine form on the rocking "Not Guilty" and the title track. And they're not the only gals contributing, as Lady Bo shines on the axe throughout - particularly on the exotic instro, "Aztec." Not to be outdone, Bo closes the album with the badass instro, "Quick Draw" - with strings pulled and twisted to their limit.

This 180-gram edition, properly mastered from the original Chess mono reels, is where you need to be on this album. For sure, for sure.

    Johnny Winter And Live

Mastered from the Original Columbia Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray

There are live albums, and then there are definitive live albums from the classic rock era which were events on their release. Johnny Winter And Live is one of those rare releases. Recorded during his short-lived and much revered Johnny Winter And era, this early supergroup with Rick Derringer (The McCoys, Edgar Winter Group, Steely Dan), Randy Jo Hobbs (The McCoys /Johnny Winter) and Bobby Caldwell (Captain Beyond) were known for their incredible live rock performances. Two of these phenomenal shows are captured on this historical rock album.

Bill Grahams Fillmore East in NYC and Pirates World in Florida were the settings for this live extravaganza, featuring stunning renditions of blues classics Good Morning Little School Girl and of course B.B. Kings Its My Own Fault. As a nod to his favorite rock and rollers, Johnny even found the energy for more foot stompin interpretations of tracks which became his own definitive versions like The Rolling Stones Jumpin Jack Flash and the legendary Johnny B. Goode by Chuck Berry. This album was so jam packed with excitement that rock radio at the time would play the entire album sides because of the ground breaking performances contained within the grooves.

Friday Music announces another installment of their Johnny Winter 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series with his gold album Johnny Winter And Live. This first time audiophile vinyl release is mastered from the original Columbia Records tapes by Joe Reagoso (Johnny Winter/Deep Purple/Jeff Beck) at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI.

filled with poetic lyrics and a thrilling presence on the stage.

Bringing his original "Bo Diddley Beat" to Chess Records in early 1955, the Chicago based label and the pioneer rocker hit
a goldmine immediately with his arsenal of tunes that he presented to Phil and Leonard Chess. A lot of these great songs became
top charting singles which culminated in his masterwork album Go! Bo Diddley.

Kicking things off with one of his finest smash hits Cracking Up, Bo roars through a treasure trove of 11 more champions
which made this one of the most important and emulated albums of all time. The album features classic gems like his classics
Dearest Darling, Say Man, Don't Let It Go and The Clock Struck Twelve. Noted for his stellar guitar work, pretty much introducing his Bo Diddley Beat riff to a whole new generation of guitar players, Go! Bo Diddley was truly a primer for a ton of rock and
blues artists for years like Eric Burdon and The Animals, George Thorogood, Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and

Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)

Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) is the first official compilation album by The Rolling Stones, released on 28 March 1966, on London Records in the US and on 4 November 1966, by Decca Records in the UK. The two releases featured different cover art and track listing. The front cover for the American release was used for the rear photo on the UK edition.

The album cover photo (US edition) was shot at Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles, California.

Reaching #3 on the US charts, where it remained for two years, Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) proved to be a big smash and currently remains a popular Rolling Stones retrospective.

The UK Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass) includes tracks released after the American edition appeared. The Rolling Stones' debut 1963 single, a cover of Chuck Berry's Come On, was included, but its more successful follow-up, I Wanna Be Your Man - composed by rivals (although in reality as friends) Lennon-McCartney - was left off the album.

    Brothers and Sisters

1973 Affair Introduces Southern Rock to Popular Parlance

Dickey Betts Leads Group Through Mellower Country Rock, Pairs With Pianist Chuck Leavell

Chart-Topping Album Includes Smash "Ramblin' Man" and Favorites "Jessica" and "Southbound"

Brothers and Sisters is significant for myriad reasons. It's the first album the Allman Brothers Band made in its entirety after Duane Allman's death. It also came after bassist Berry Oakley's spookily similar passing, yet he appears on two of the songs. The 1973 set also marks the emergence of guitarist Dickey Betts as the collective's leader. And pianist Chuck Leavell's arrival. But for than anything else, the record remains noteworthy for its incredible soulfulness and completeness.

Having stayed at the top of the Billboard charts for five consecutive weeks, Brothers and Sisters constitutes the Allman Brothers Band's biggest commercial triumph. Given the circumstances surrounding its creation, such an accomplishment hardly seemed possible. Fresh from licking their wounds over Duane's tragic motorcycle accident, the group experienced dÉjà vu when Oakley met the same fate just blocks away from where his mate was killed. Rather than collapse, the Allman Brothers Band tightened up and mellowed out, inviting Leavell to join instead of recruiting another guitarist.

What the sextet gets in return for its troubles is music that marks the concrete beginnings of a form that soon become known as Southern rock. Leavell and Betts exchange notes as if the pair has been trading ideas since they were children. Slide guitars still tread over greasy grooves, yet the Allman Brothers Band digs deeper into country dirt, parlaying a twang anchored by Betts' picking and abetted by Gregg's organic, shot-of-blues vocals. The laidback vibe manifests on the signature "Ramblin' Man," a hit evocative of the record's breezy melodies and friendly interplay.

The cover art further reveals the Allman Brothers Band's mindset. Golden, tranquil, idyllic, Southern, loving: It's a paradise-longing view that would soon come crashing down in the group's lives but one that, for the duration and existence of Brothers and Sisters, remains gloriously undisturbed.

More Songs About Buildings And Food

The title of Talking Heads' second album, More Songs About Buildings and Food, slyly addressed the sophomore record syndrome, in which songs not used on a first LP are mixed with hastily written new material. If the band's sound seems more conventional, the reason simply may be that one had encountered the odd song structures, staccato rhythms, strained vocals, and impressionistic lyrics once before. Another was that new co-producer Brian Eno brought a musical unity that tied the album together, especially in terms of the rhythm section, the sequencing, the pacing, and the mixing. Where Talking Heads had largely been about David Byrne's voice and words, Eno moved the emphasis to the bass-and-drums team of Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz; all the songs were danceable, and there were only short breaks between them.

Byrne held his own, however, and he continued to explore the eccentric, if not demented persona first heard on 77, whether he was adding to his observations on boys and girls or turning his Psycho Killer into an artist in Artists Only. Through the first nine tracks, More Songs was the successor to 77, which would not have earned it landmark status or made it the commercial breakthrough it became. It was the last two songs that pushed the album over those hurdles. First there was an inspired cover of Al Green's Take Me to the River; released as a single, it made the Top 40 and pushed the album to gold-record status. Second was the album closer, The Big Country, Byrne's country-tinged reflection on flying over middle America; it crystallized his artist-vs.-ordinary people perspective in unusually direct and dismissive terms, turning the old Chuck Berry patriotic travelogue theme of rock & roll on its head and employing a great hook in the process.

    Here I Go Again

Released in America in 1964 by Imperial Records, Here I Go Again was the Hollies U.S. debut, and is rated by many fans as superior to its British counterpart, Stay with the Hollies. Here I Go Again offers an accurate representation of the Hollies early repertoire, comprised largely of distinctive covers of American R&B and rock n roll classics. In addition to the ultra-catchy title tune and their hit covers of Maurice Williams Stay and Doris Troys Just One Look, the album finds the Hollies applying their trademark style to such iconic numbers as Chuck Berrys Memphis, Little Richards Lucille and Arthur Alexanders You Better Move On.

Of all the English bands who achieved international success during the first wave of the British Invasion, none combined youthful rock n roll energy with musical sophistication more compellingly than the Hollies. The Manchester quintet effortlessly combined the effervescent, Everly Brothers-inspired vocal harmonies of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks with a muscular rhythm section driven by the brilliant drummer Bobby Elliott, creating one of their eras most beloved and enduring musical catalogs.

As was standard practice with British acts at the time, the Hollies early albums reached American shores in very different form than the versions that were released overseas, with alternate track listings and different cover art than their U.K. and European counterparts. Although these unique variants are the form in which millions of American fans first experienced these historic albums, they have been out of print for decades, and have long been obtainable only at inflated collectors prices.
