    Bidin' My Time (Pre-Order)

Chris Hillman, whose credits include co-founding Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Byrds, as well as the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas and Desert Rose Band, is truly one of the architects of American music. His newest solo work, Bidin' My Time, produced by Tom Petty and executive-produced by Herb Pedersen, captures a rarity: an icon who has never sounded better, making music with old friends for the sheer love of it.

Collaborators and admirers from Hillman's storied career appear throughout the record: Tom Petty; Hillman's Byrds bandmates David Crosby and Roger McGuinn; the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, and Steve Ferrone; Desert Rose Band's John Jorgenson, Pedersen, and Jay Dee Maness; premier upright bassist Mark Fain; singer/guitarist Josh JovÉ; and fiddler Gabe Witcher.

The album kicks off with a new recording of Pete Seeger's and Welsh poet Idris Davies' 'The Bells of Rhymney,' which the Byrds recorded for their debut. 'Here She Comes Again' was co-written by Hillman and McGuinn and, until now, had only been recorded on a live Byrds album in Australia. 'She Don't Care About Time' was written by Byrds co-founder Gene Clark, and was the original B-side to 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' Covers of the Everly Brothers' 'Walk Right Back' and Petty's 'Wildflowers' round out this understated yet undeniable masterpiece.

Folk, rock and roll, bluegrass and the unmistakable country-rock Hillman himself helped pioneer come together seamlessly on the triumph that is Bidin' My Time.

    Sweetheart Of The Rodeo

Ranked 117/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

With one mighty swing of the axe, the Byrds changed not only the face of rock 'n' roll but country music, as well, with their sixth album, 1968's Sweetheart Of The Rodeo. Tired of dipping a toe into the genre, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman added singer Gram Parsons and drummer Kevin Kelley and went for total immersion. The baptism of country-rock was a natural with Parsons, former International Submarine Band frontman, now on board. And the repertoire was wide open for country classics by the Louvin Brothers (The Christian Life) and Merle Haggard (Life In Prison), as well as Depression-era ballads (Woody Guthrie's Pretty Boy Floyd) and honky tonk weepers cut by George Jones (You're Still On My Mind). The town wasn't big enough for both of them, of course, and Parsons soon split to form the Flying Burrito Brothers, but it sure was nice while it lasted!

We're proud to present the reissue of this monumental recording in its original, stereo incarnation, cut directly from the original Columbia Recordings analog stereo masters, with perfect artwork restoration and meticulously faithful mastering.

    Manassas

Between 1970 and 1972, Stephen Stills was busy playing with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and working on a series of solo albums. In addition to all this activity he led the super group that appears on this stunning release. Manassas finds Stills and company (Chris Hillman, Dallas Taylor and Al Perkins among others) at the intersection of rock, folk, country and blues. Distinctive styles are noticeable song by song, yet it is the strength and credibility of the mixture that makes Manassas such a great overall experience. The first fourth of the album focuses on '60s rock with Afro-Cuban overtones, followed by a batch of country and bluegrass-oriented material. The folk-rock track It Doesn't Matter kicks off the third section and the final section wraps the set up with the rootsy groove of Blues Man, a tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Manassas is a rich and varied collection that is as sophisticated and complex as it is earthy and easy to listen to.

Gene Clark With The Gosdin Brothers

On this, the first solo album by an ex-Byrd, Gene Clark doesn't fly too far from the nest -- Byrds' Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke make up the rhythm section, while the Gosdin Brothers chime in with sweet harmony vocals. Add guitarists Glen Campbell, Jerry Cole and future Byrd Clarence White, and some beautiful orchestration by Leon Russell to Clark's melancholy melodies and the result is a forward-looking country-rock primer that sounded like nothing else in '67 and continues to astound and inspire today. After recording his second solo album, Stills formed Manassas in 1971 with a talented group of musicians that included Chris Hillman, a former member of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers. The collection also includes the legendary group's unreleased performances of Sugar Babe and Word Game a pair of songs Stills recorded in 1971 for his second solo album. Is this the album that made country cool? Former Byrds Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman picked up where they left off with Sweetheart of the Rodeo with this stunning masterpiece of a debut album by The Flying Burrito Bros. While Parsons had already pushed rock in a country direction during his brief stint with The Byrds and The International Submarine Band, The Gilded Palace of Sin is why the Burritos are widely viewed as the inventors of country rock. Indeed with this album, Hillman and Parsons carved a substantial place in music history as one of the most influential albums and bands of all time.

The influence this album and band would have on rock and rap in the following decade can't be understated. It's impossible to listen to 80s and 90s classics like The Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique or Beck's Odelay without hearing echoes of the beats and samples from This Is Big Audio Dynamite all the way back in 1985.

The Gilded Palace of Sin was mastered 100% AAA analog by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the best source available- a phenomenal sounding 1/2'' safety copy of the original stereo master tapes. All of the top-end energy and ''snap'' of the original A&M LP is preserved, while the bass foundation is fully restored to make this new Intervention reissue the definitive listening experience for this classic LP!

    Sanctuary

Now heavily influenced by the earth-shaking creations of two master musicians -John Coltrane and Ravi Shankar-the Byrds began recording their new single, Eight Miles High and Why, along with tracks for their upcoming album Fifth Dimension at Columbia Studios in Hollywood. Growing more confident by the day in their studio acumen and songwriting skills, the Byrds logged long nights of hypnotic in-studio jamming, then hammered the white-hot magma into songs that will live forever. McGuinn's solos soared as never before, his technique now fusing the familiar, melodic overtones of the Rickenbacker 12-string with a powerfully new staccato dissonance absorbed from the majestic saxophone of John Coltrane. Michael Clarke's drumming never sounded better, his Elvin Jones-like cymbal splashes and rolling-tom thunder driving the band like an atomic generator approaching critical mass. Chris Hillman's swooping bass lines took on a McCartney-esque timbre that filled in every corner of the canvas with bold, melodic strokes. But it was perhaps David Crosby, playing in a brashly percussive way no one had ever heard before from a rhythm guitarist, who best digested and interpreted the Eastern influences of the day: the ragas and talas of Ravi Shankar. Crosby's contribution to Fifth Dimensionwas as outspoken and defiant as the man, himself. Acreative zenith in the Byrds' career, these fascinating sessions deserve closer scrutiny than they've previously been afforded. Alternate instrumental takes and extended experimental workouts give essential insight here into the songs' final versions. Also included are early versions of songs before the addition of any studio sweetening-strings, percussion or sound effects. To top things off, we've included a small handful of unique finds that give a fly-on-the-wall glimpse into the creation of one of the most important records of our time.

"Eight Miles High" b/w "Why" - The Rare RCA Studios Versions Original Mono Masters!!!

During an action-packed Byrds tour of the UK in August 1965, ideas began to form in Gene Clark's mind for a new song. After germinating for several weeks, he began to put his thoughts on paper during the band's U.S. tour in November 1965.

Traveling from gig to gig, David Crosby's cassettes of Ravi Shankar and John Coltrane provided the tour bus soundtrack. As Clark continued writing the song that would become ''Eight Miles High,'' this exotic music, especially Coltrane's recordings, found their way into the composition. Juxtaposed against lyrical snapshots of London, like ''rain grey town, known for its sound,'' the modal melody created a striking contrast and summoned a surreal, flight-like feeling.

Despite Clark's increasing isolation from the group, it was obvious that ''Eight Miles High'' was a work of major importance and the group promptly made plans to record it. The band entered RCA Studios in Los Angeles on December 22, 1965, to track ''Eight Miles High,'' along with a new Roger McGuinn- David Crosby song ''Why.'' They had worked up an explosive arrangement for the Clark song, adding elements culled from their recent highway listening sessions. The Coltrane influence is especially evident in McGuinn's electric twelve-string solo, inspired by Coltrane's free-form sax lines on ''India.'' Shankar's sitar work is reflected in Chris Hillman's driving bass part, a hypnotic drone against which McGuinn's guitar lines shine in high relief. This Eastern influence also emerges on the high energy ''Why'' with McGuinn creating a sitar-like solo on his guitar while employing non-Western scales. Though not a conscious attempt, these songs were later cited as pioneering examples of raga rock, one of several innovative sub-genres, along with folk rock and country rock that the band explored in their career.

Despite the unqualified artistic success of the RCA sessions, Columbia refused to release the tracks because they had not been recorded in a Columbia-owned studio. The band dutifully re-recorded the two songs at Columbia Studios in Hollywood and these recordings were released as a single and later included in the Fifth Dimension album. However, the band was not fully satisfied with this second attempt, believing that the RCA recordings were better.

This special Sundazed release marks the first use of the recently located original mono mixdown masters. McGuinn has always felt that the first recordings of these songs were more spontaneous. And when asked about the RCA version of ''Eight Miles High'' Crosby declared, ''It was a stunner, it was better, it was stronger. It was the way we wanted it to be.''
