The draw of single-ended amplifiers has always been a level of engagement that other amplifiers often fail to deliver; well designed single-ended amplifiers are not only impressive in the midrange, but across all frequencies.

The Bigger Ben is designed to offer transparency, rich detail, and an incredibly low noise floor. Parts selection was crucial during the design process and each was chosen not for price, but for the level of synergy between parts. Rectification is solid state which permits cooler operation and reliable performance. The amp is configured for ultra-linear operation allowing greater power output and minimal use of feedback.

The amplifier features an extremely stiff power supply; significantly larger than needed for primary filtering. In the early days of tube amps, chokes were easier to come by than caps and more reliable. As such, large chokes were utilized for primary filtering. As capacitor production gained reliability and costs came down, cap filtering and smaller chokes became the norm. In a single-ended design, a regulated and extremely quiet power supply is very important. Using a large 5 Henry choke is expensive, but yields significant improvements in reduction of DC ripple.

The chosen output transformers are over-spec'd and the highest quality. Ampsandsound considers the output transformer as important as any other design choice. When buying any tube amplifier, the weight of the output transformer can be directly proportional to the quality of sound. In general, larger outputs have more massive cores which are less prone to saturation and have higher inductance.

Larger cores and greater inductance allow the transformer to carry a low-end signal with minimal distortion. These transformers are bench tested to perform down to 20hz and up to 20khz. Even if your speakers only go to 50hz like a classic LS3/5 two-way, having an amplifier able to drive that low is pivotal in recreating the whole soundstage.

    Choice of Loudspeaker?

The Bigger Ben pairs well with most speakers 94db and above. However, Bigger Ben is so quiet it will perform beautifully with full-range or horn-loaded speakers of efficiency above 100db, 700 micro volts RMS noise at idle. Speakers that can go down cleanly to 30hz really bring out the very best of the amp. 20z-20khz -1db at full power. The Bigger Ben (depending on choice of output tubes) will output between 5-7 watts, but there's a lot more in the tank than that when matched with appropriate loudspeakers.

    Tubes:

The amp is compatible with all 6l6 family tubes, including the 6l6GC, KT66, KT77, KT88, KT90, and EL34s. The driver tube is a 6SL7.

AmpsandSound Products Are Handmade In Small Batches and Go Through Extensive Quality Control

AmpsandSound headphone amplifiers are the truest expression of their mission to bring tested designs and minimalist values to personal audio. They have chosen to utilize only single-ended, zero feedback tube designs to bring back warmth and musicality to personal audio. Each model balances the desire for power, the need for quite operation and the desire for wide bandwidth. The ampsandsound sonic signature closely approximates the best aspects of the classic tube sound of the 50s (maximum midrange bloom), supplementing it with a modern bass signature and transient speed.

Like many of their products, the Kenzie headphone amplifier evolved from earlier designs - in this case, rave reviews about the SE-84's headphone section. The inevitable question followed; why didn't they build a dedicated headphone amp?

    Why indeed?

After some research, they came to the conclusion that a headphone amplifier building on the much loved Darling circuit was the right choice for them. The outstanding performance of the Kenzie headphone amplifier is made possible with custom wound ultra-high quality output transformers providing amazing frequency extension.

The Kenzie does not use a voltage network, and has more than enough power to drive even the most difficult headphones. They chose 32 ohms and 600-ohm output taps to allow use with the widest variety of headphones; everything from Grado Labs, HiFiMan, Audeze, MrSpeakers, Sennheiser, and Beyerdynamic.

The Kenzie showcases the transformers on the chassis to frame in the unique 1626 single-ended tubes. They have included an ALPS volume pot to allow attenuation and simplify the signal path.

The Kenzie is one of the sweetest-sounding headphone amplifiers on the market. The 1626 is commonly referred to as the "Poor Man's 300B"; offering a similar level of warmth, texture, and soundstage depth.

The 1626 is a WWII-era tube that was used as a transmitter tube in radar installations. The design is shy on pure output, but offers layers of texture and drive, and is paired with a massive choke and robust output transformers for ultra-quiet operation. As with all AmpsandSound products, parts selection was crucial during this build and each chosen not for price, but for best quality and synergy.

The Kenzie is handmade in Southern California with U.S.-sourced parts and custom hand-wound output transformers.

The name Agartha used to describe a city in the center of the world. The ampsandsound Agartha brings the legendary 300b to personal audio. They chose the 300b for its long history as the king of triodes. Combining a single gain stage, zero feedback and careful attention to grounding techniques they are able to use a 300b with headphones without hum or noise. For those with headphone, horns or single driver speakers who are seeking audio nirvana, the Agartha is built with exacting attention to parts selection and implementation.

The Agartha tube amp pairs a 6SL7 tube for front end with SS rectification enabling great transient peeks, faster/livelier presentation and ultra-quite operation. The Agartha uses direct-heated triodes with zero feedback providing the classic single-ended sound so widely loved.

Typical of all ampsandsound amplifiers, the power supply is massive. This combined with a generous choke yields our trademark low noise; less than 3mv at idle, and stable output of 5 watts RMS into an 8ohm load and 1watt into a 32ohm headphone. Frequency response is 12hz to 30hz at 1 watts, 1-db. Output iron has been carefully selected to reduce distortion and increase frequency response. And of course we also use our 5% capacitors and 2% resistors.

The motivation of the Agartha is to provide access to the wide availability of NOS tubes and give the warm mid-range bloom that is at the heart of single-ended direct-heated triode designs. Tube set included.

The Leeloo was cheeckily named after the main character in the movie The 5th Element Love! Leeloo is a unique amplifier combining headphone amp and stereo with dedicated taps for each and a volume control to provide easy integration with any source. Leeloo is the best of single-ended bliss, ultra linear power and mild feedback for improved frequency extension and noise floor. Paring a single 12ax7 in the preamp section with a pair of EL84s, the SE-84 doesn't require an external preamp and can be driven to full output with an iPod or smartphone. Coupling caps are high grade Wima, we use 2% resistors, and our usual robust power supply including massive choke regulation to drive the D/C ripple and noise floor to the lowest levels we every seen. The SE-84 driven by an iPod makes a fantastic combo for a 2nd system or smaller room. 2.6 watts may not seem enough, but the bass presence and sound stage will make a convert of you. Perhaps the most astonishing feature of Leeloo is the 1watt into 32ohm loads able to drive even the most demanding headphones with ease.

The SE-84 is small in physical size (12"x 10") and built into a gorgeous Solid Eastern Walnut Cab with ebony corners. The finish is hand rubbed lacquer. The SE-84 will be at home in your rack or as a statement piece in your office.

Each amspandsound amp is built with attention to grounding schemes - star grounding and use of common ground contributing to its very low noise floor and wide bandwidth. Leeloo pairs well with most speakers 89db and above, but like all our amplifiers it is quiet enough to use with full-range or horn-loaded speakers having 100db efficiency and above. Speakers that can go cleanly down to 30hz really bring out the very best of the amp.

Leeloo is handmade with pride in Southern California with US-sourced parts, including our precision transformers.

    The Fantastic Johnny Horton

    Import

The original Fantastic Johnny Horton LP, released in 1959, didn't contain any of these recordings. Instead, it contained twelve early-mid '50s Mercury recordings. This is, however, the truly fantastic Johnny Horton: sixteen of his very best recordings from his years with Columbia Records. Here you can find the electricity, vibrancy, and presence that had barely been hinted at on Horton's earlier recordings. He worked with a very aggressive, prominently mixed rhythm section that included a string bass (Bill Black, sometimes), a rhythm guitar, and Grady Martin on lead guitar. Martin played outrageous single string solos and fills. His slurs, chokes and bent notes, helped to create the vocabulary of rock'n'roll guitar. These are Johnny Horton's rockin'est recordings and they were made to be heard on vinyl. The highlights are too many as every song is a classic in its own right. Just ask any of the artists, including Dwight Yoakam and George Jones, who have revived these songs!

These circuits feed the L & R audio stages with ultra-low noise on par with the best battery technologies, and without the inconvenience. There is also a Chassis Ground switch to optimize chassis shielding.

The standard AC supply is an AC wall adapter type with a single winding feeding the L&R circuits.

This supply is 120V input only.

Countries with 220~240V mains must use the AC·15 MKII Upgrade Supply.

The AC·15 MKII Upgrade Supply Features:

    • Large Toroidal Transformer with dual outputs (1 per channel)

    • AC Line Filtering

    • Dual common-mode choke filtering (1 per channel)

    • 120V/240V Selectable Input Voltage

    • Rear Panel Power Switch

    • Detachable AC Input & Output cables

    Audio Circuit

Input signals are connected via highest quality Cardas™ panel-mounted RCA jacks. The input jacks are routed to two independent mono circuits of identical layout. This assures exact performance from both channels and reduces crosstalk.

Circuit topology consists of an input gain stage with selectable resistive load, capacitance, gain, and subsonic filter. This gain stage is followed by a passive high frequency cut, then an active bass boost to create the RIAA equalization curve, then to the output jacks.

Careful layout yields a very short signal path from input to output, and a combination of star grounding power supply components/ground plane for the audio circuits, result in a silent background and immunity to EMI/RFI pickup. The entire circuit board is then housed in a heavy steel faraday cage to further reject outside interference, then inside the attractive aluminum outer chassis.

Highest quality components are used throughout:

Cardas™ jacks, Nichicon Muse™ NP power supply capacitors, Vishay™ 2% Polypropylene signal and bypass capacitors, Takman™ metal film & carbon films resistors, and Grayhill™ switches.

    Favourite Worst Nightmare

The Arctic Monkeys surely showed potential on their debut Whatever People Say I Am, but their youthful vigor often camouflaged their debt to other bands. Here on their sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare, they're absorbing their influences, turning their liberal borrowings from the Libertines, the Strokes, and the Jam into something that's their own distinct identity. Unlike any of those three bands, however, the Arctic Monkeys haven't stumbled on their second album; they haven't choked on hubris, they haven't overthought their sophomore salvo, nor have they cranked it out too quickly. That constant year of work resulted in startling growth as the band is testing the limits of what they can do and where they can go.

The remarkable thing about the Arctic Monkeys -- which Favourite Worst Nightmare brings into sharp relief -- is their genuine guilelessness, how they restructure classic rock clichÉs in a way that pays little mind to how things were done in the past, and that all goes back to their youth.

    Gag A Maggot (Awaiting Repress)

Back in Print Since 1973 on Green Vinyl

Another Southern Soul rarity re-released for the first time on vinyl since its original release in 1973! This album is so funky that it'll gag a maggott and drown a drop. Due to the fact that a maggott is the funkiest thing on earth; if this LP can make him gag which it already has, no telling what it'll do to your funny ass ... Swamp Dogg Swamp Dogg's Gag A Maggott was recorded in 1973 at TK in Miami with an all-star cast. The song Choking To Death (From The Ties That Bind) was recorded by Canned Heat in 1974. Thematically, this seems to be a fairly conventional soul LP -- great cover of In the Midnight Hour and lots of love and money in the lyrics. Granted, Wife Sitter is as nasty as Jody songs get, mostly because Dogg plays the cuckold, making Jody with such relish. And to call your sweeest love song I CouldnÍt Pay for What I Got Last Night, is to combine the two themes more intimately than most soul men consider necessary. Nor do most soul men drive so hard -- Ivan Olander's drums, Little Beaver's guitar, even the horns of the Swamp Dogg Band maintain a fierce momentum that's not conventional at all.

LEFTOVER CRACK are a rare band in that they managed to master a genre of music and eventually completely redefine it. Born out of the ashes of ska/punk/crust legends Choking Victim, LEFTOVER CRACK
elevated the level of expectation and popularity of the genre. Infusing elements of metal, hardcore, classical, and even some as yet undefined ingredients, LOC created a truly unique sound which they dubbed "squat-core". Coupled with fiercely overt/controversial political and socio-economic messages and it became the recipe for some of the most volatile material the punk genre has seen in a long time. Originally released in 2004, their second album Fuck World Trade is viewed as LOC's hallmark release. Built on the foundation of
high-speed ska and thrash punk, Fuck World Trade saw the band take a freer approach both musically and lyrically, including longer songs, more varied details, and contributions from members of Anti-Flag, The Dwarves, and World/Inferno Friendship Society. Of course, the band's anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-capitalist, and anarcho-communist message is on full display as well.

Over 10 years after its release, Fuck World Trade still stands as genre defining album in both musical content and message. To mark the anniversary of the album Fat will be releasing a deluxe reissue. The reissue includes five previously unreleased bonus tracks (all originally from the Fuck World Trade session), enhanced artwork, and gatefold double-vinyl version.

    Requiem

Taking Hardcore, Grind, Crust, and Metal and playing them all like they're the same thing Seattle's Skarp have crafted a a sonic suicide note that demands to be heard. Adeptly interlaced with samples that set the stage for the ensuing mayhem, Requiem is loosely conceptual, with all fourteen tracks (and an intro) touching on the topic of suicide.
Throughout the record, the band keeps the proceedings fresh and intense, as bulldozing heavy moments crush the listener under the sheer massive weight of the riffs, while haunting, multi-textural riffs complement the raw power with just enough color in the dark musical landscape. Post-nordic Black Metal-isms segue into raw speed-crust seamlessly, creating a musical balance of terror that is as intense as it is effective.

Formed in 2000 as a band heavily influenced by Choking Victim, Skarp quickly steered their ships into heavier, more turbulent waters, trading the ska elements for blast beats. Their EPs established the band's presence in the underground and heavy touring throughout the western US, as well as all over Canada followed. In 2004 the band gigged exhaustively throughout Europe for the first time as well. Skarp at last came to the attention of AT's overlord, the irrepressible Jello Biafra after they opened his shows with the Melvins on New Year's 2004/2005 in Seattle. After thoroughly devastating the audience, Biafra knew that AT would be the only logical home for such a passionate and independent act.

The band was signed and began to craft Requiem under the watchful eye of veteran producer Billy Anderson forging a fearsome aural assault. Skarp's savage brand of grinding mayhem, known as Blackout Grind amongst the band's true believers, will strike a chord with all fans of crust, grind, hardcore and the more virulent strains of metal.

In order to survive this long hot season of discontent, you gotta have something new to turn up and tune into! It's vital to chew down on stuff that's not just all negativity, you know? If you wanna stay positive, throw Ty Segall's Fried Shallots into your brain pan and flame on for a quick snack.

Fried Shallots is a handful of numbers from different times and places over the past few years that all work together in a weird way. That's something that we should all be striving for: all working together in a weird way. For Ty, that requires rock with the gears shifting and stripping, tempos and tropes mashing up; a primal outburst, a quick-and-fuzzy soundtrack of rock, folk, r'n'b and pure power pop, to give us a chance to chill and do the new century twist for just a minute. That's good, for in twist we trust!

Fried Shallots isn't simply just good fun. The profits from this release will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union, whose defense of our rights is badly needed now - especially in the face of the government pigs who don't care about the constitution and are determined to thin our herd so that they and their corporate sugar-daddys can grow ever fatter off the deprivations of the common man-clan! Don't you let 'em do it! Organizations like the ACLU help secure freedoms that allow individuals to stay individual in the face of the choking tides of oppression. Ty Segall's Fried Shallots is here to help us surf those tides and not be swept under.

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

Lehmannaudio is has built a reputation and unrivalled customer satisfaction on the sound and build quality of phono stages. The ambitious Decade effectively fills the gap between the Black Cube SE II and the Lehmannaudio reference phono stage, the Silver Cube. In the Decade, like in all Lehmannaudio devices, top notch technology is used that normally can be found only in price ranges far above.

The input stages of the Decade can also be found in top notch mixing consoles and high class microphone preamps of professional studio electronics. The highly accurate, passive RIAA equalisation network is placed between two linear gain stages and uses precision MKP capacitors. This results in a very stable soundstage reproduction and pin point localisation of instruments.

The maximum gain of 66 dB is well enough for even very exotic low output MC cartridges. Impedance load adaption is practically infinite as with all Lehmannaudio phono stages: there is a free slot for a custom impedance so that every existing MC cartridge on the market can be loaded properly. Input capacitances are adjustable as well.

Soft bass roll-off filter and PWX II power supply.

The Decade is the first phono stage by Lehmannaudio that offers a Soft-Bass- Rolloff-Filter and gain selections accessible via toggle switches at the face plate. Both, gain and filter functions, are executed by studio grade relais inside the unit.

The Decade is powered by the PWX II, a power supply especially developed for the unit which is downward compatible with the PWX. This means that Black Cube audio sections can also be connected. The second power outlet at the PWX II is made especially for that purpose. The PWX II power supply with chokes at critical places powers the Decade with very clean DC power and - like the Silver Cube - is connected to the audio section via a shielded cable with Neutrik XLR plugs.

    Poets Were My Heroes

Morning Glory is made up of the stuff that the gritty, punk-crust motherland of New York's infamous Lower East Side has been known to spawn. This group of punkers and squatters had very humble beginnings indeed. Already in various other New York punk bands, Morning Glory first became the spark of an idea when Ezra Kire (Leftöver Crack, Choking Victim, INDK) took time off from touring and started to write some tunes in his NYC apartment.

In 2001, with nothing but a drum machine and an 8-track reel-to-reel, Ezra wrote and recorded the songs that would become Morning Glory's first LP, This Is No Time ta Sleep. Though it was self-recorded, home-released and had no touring support, it still managed to create a small but ubiquitous underground buzz. With a virtuosic range of musical elements such as ska, punk, metal, and even some rhyming, its catchy, anthemic sing-alongs showcased Ezra's flourishing writing talents. And while his lyrics stayed true to the caustic political edge of his other bands, the overall message remained more optimistic and leaned towards the humanistic, personal side of life.

In 2002, Ezra finally assembled a live band, handpicking musicians from the local NYC punk scene, including members of Nausea, World/Inferno Friendship Society and Stockyard Stoics. This lineup recorded the EP, The Whole World is Watching, released on Blacknoise Records in 2003. While the years that followed were spent recording and touring with Leftöver Crack, Morning Glory took a back seat.

But after these long years of touring, Ezra finally decided to give Morning Glory the attention it deserved in 2010 and began writing songs for what was to become the epic new album, Poets Were My Heroes. In the summer of 2011, Ezra and the band (with longtime members Early Gates, "Metal" Chris and Lucky Strano alongside new guitarist Adam Schrager) hit the studio with a barrage of new material. Picture the sonic kaleidoscope of punk noise meeting strings, horns, choirs, pianos and organs over a web of distorted guitars and marching, single kick pedal drums.

These are the sounds that make up Poets Were My Heroes, Morning Glory's Fat Wreck Chords debut and first full-length album recorded with a live band. Re-enlisting producer Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, Saves the Day), a wealth of material was recorded, with only the very strongest songs being chosen to make up the album. It is both grand and elaborate, with each song evoking a different mood and style, challenging the musicianship of even the most dexterous players, while still maintaining its punk-inspired simplicity.

While the band itself has described themselves as "somewhere between Oasis and The Clash," they continue to break rules and write music that is true only to themselves, adhering to no genres, creeds or political factions. The sing-along choruses give the band a broader appeal than the standard politi-kill punk acts, but the key message is more subversive: "Think for yourself, decide for yourself, make up your own mind and love your friends. Only you know what is right for you. Together we are what we can't be alone." It's this unity in diversity that makes the band special and not just another punk outfit. Double vinyl includes digital download of full album.

    No Epitaphs

Heavy metal punk n' rollers RAMMING SPEED will release their sophomore Prosthetic effort, "No Epitaphs. Recorded late last year with Kurt Ballou (Converge, Skeletonwitch, Kvelertak) at GodCity Studios, the album borrows from the bulldozer riffs of Swedish D-beat, the guitar harmonies of British heavy metal, the raw aggression of American grind and the visceral energy of basement hardcore. The band have teamed with Germany's SLAM Magazine to debut the new track "Choke Holds and Bullet Holes,"

    The Swamps

The Swamps is the newest release from American swoon lords Widowspeak. It arrives as bridge between the duo's sophomore album, Almanac, and
an as yet untitled third studio record. Here the band's characteristic sonic
landscapes, haunting harmonies, and layers of delicate guitar-work usher in
a new chapter in their dark and dreamy catalog. Inspired by the light-choked
wetlands of its title, The Swamps brims with songs about fears of stagnation
and the pitfalls of nostalgia, but never relinquishes Widowspeak's melodic
    optimism.

"The Swamps is a six-song collection that's intended to act as a bridge between
Almanac and the band's as-yet-untitled third album; "True Believer" is the penultimate song to appear on the EP's tracklisting, and it finds Molly Hamilton and Robert
Earl Thomas pushing their sound even further in a warm, lush direction, with a sliding
melody that sounds almost tropical in construct."
    - Pitchfork

" It's truly, sweepingly lovely. People would go insane if Mazzy Star dropped a new
track tomorrow, but nothing Mazzy Star might do in 2013 could be more beautiful
than what Widowspeak are actually doing right here. Thus, people should be going
    insane about this."

    Bad Magic (Picture Disc)

    Limited Edition Picture Disc

Bristling with thunderous attitude, and some of the fiercest rhythms and riffs that'll assault your ears this year, Bad Magic demands that you fall to your knees and pray heartily that your senses don't get completely pulverized, because big-rig head crushers like the totemic and Motöranthemic "Thunder And Lightning" show that Motörhead is as strong, mean, loud, relentless, uncompromising and goddam heavy as ever. Drawing on their own vast catalog of road-warrior freewheeling rock'n'roll spirit, Bad Magic also strides confidently into some of the earlier attitudes of Motörmusic. There is the driving malevolence of "Choking On Your Screams" underscoring Lemmy in magnificently omnipotent vocal mood, "Electricity" carries a hefty chunk of punk attitude married with some of Phil Campbell's best lead work yet, and "Shoot Out All of Your Lights" screams devilish, greasy, biker-born-screw-you-and-yours attitude, Mikkey Dee's tribal drums pounding out a great path for more Kilmister proclamations. In this, their historic 40th year anniversary, Motörhead will also continue to gleefully deafen fans with a world tour, including a European Summer tour where they will debut brand new Motörclassic "Thunder & Lightning". The world might be in a state of turmoil and uncertainty, but Bad Magic is solid gold proof that you can always bet on Motörhead to deliver the greatest, leanest and meanest of goods through thick and thin.
