    Chicago II (Awaiting Repress)

Chicago was founded in 1967 by Walt Parazaider (woodwinds), James Pankow (trombone), Lee Loughnane (trumpet), Roert Lamm (keyboards and lead vocals), Terry Kath (guitar and lead vocals), and Danny Seraphine (drums). They called themselves The Big Thing. They added bassist-lead vocalist Peter Cetera and began working with their original producer-manager James William Guercio, subsequently becoming known as Chicago Transit Authority. Their self-titled 1969 debut release was an ambitious mix of free-form rock and horn-influenced jazz, the first of three double LPs that would start their career. The band dropped the Transit Authority and became known as simply Chicago on this, their second album in 1970, which was the first album to carry their trademark logo. Peaking at #4 on the Billboard charts, Chicago II yielded some of the group's most enduring hits, which came from Pankow's suite Ballet For A Girl In Buchannon, emulating the form of the great classical composers from a pop perspective. Remastered with expanded liner notes.

    Chicago VII

The Chicago/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Series Continues!

Celebrate The 40th Anniversary Of The Legendary #1 Chicago VII - First Time Audiophile Vinyl!

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso And Lee Loughnane From Chicago!

Chicago VII was another huge multiplatinum plus #1 smash for Chicago and a stunning return to the double LP
format for this brilliant band. Featuring the original award winning line-up of Robert Lamm (lead vocals/keyboards),
Peter Cetera (lead vocals/bass), Terry Kath (lead vocals/guitars), the legendary horns of Lee Loughnane (trumpet),
Walter Parazaider (saxophone/woodwinds), James Pankow (trombone) plus Danny Seraphine (drums), Chicago VII is
undoubtedly one of their biggest selling albums and is also one of the most revered offerings in their huge catalog.

Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like (I've Been) Searchin' So Long and Call On Me, their seventh album
was filled with more smashes like the power driver Robert Lamm smash Lifesaver, the funk rocker Woman Don't Want
To Love Me and the Chicago/Beach Boys duet smash hit single Wishing You Were Here.

The wonderful 2 LP release also features a fine array of long band workouts on instrumentals which feature each
bandmate laying down some serious grooves on tunes like Hanky Panky, Aire and Prelude To Aire, which of course
feature the horn work of the founders Lee Loughnane, Walter Parazaider and James Pankow.

Several of the fine tunes on this well-crafted album also feature the sorely missed vocals and guitar of Terry
Kath, where he truly shines on tracks like the progressive jazz rock infused Song Of The Evergreens and the stunning
Byblos, both of which make this fine album even more of a treasure trove of classic rock enjoyment.

Peter Cetera shines vocally throughout on the LP as well, especially on the hit acoustic ballad sounds of Happy
Man. While being one of the more signature songs from this collection, the tune also was known for its false start
making it one of Chicago's more collectable rarities if you were lucky to own the original vinyl version from 1974.
It's been several decades since the rare original vinyl version of Chicago VII has been available that is until now!

Friday Music is very honored to continue the CHICAGO 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL SERIES with their masterpiece Chicago VII. Mastered impeccably from the original Chicago Records master tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday
Music Studios and Capitol Records in Hollywood, CA, with the supervision of Chicago's Lee Loughnane, this album is
truly a thrilling first time audiophile vinyl release.

For this special limited edition, we have also included the original full color album cover in gatefold style for the

    Chicago VI

Chicago VI was another solid platinum plus smash for Chicago. Buoyed by the success of huge hit singles like Just You 'N' Me & Feelin' Stronger Every Day, their sixth platter was chock filled of even more smashes like the piano driven opener Critic's Choice and Hollywood. Friday Music is honored to announce the CHICAGO 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL SERIES with our first chapter CHICAGO VI This LP features the original core line-up of Lamm, Kath, Cetera, etc. Mastered impeccably from the original Chicago Records/ Warner Bros. tapes by Joe Reagoso, also presented in a nice gatefold cover.

Chicago: Terry Kath (vocals, guitar); Robert Lamm (vocals, keyboards); Lee Loughnane (vocals, trumpet); Peter Cetera (vocals, bass); James Pankow (trombone); Walter Parazaider (woodwinds); Danny Seraphine (drums). Additional personnel: J.G. O'Rafferty (pedal steel guitar); Laudir De Oliveira, Joe Lala (congas). Recorded at Caribou Ranch, Nederland, Colorado in February 1973.Includes liner notes by Don Heckman. All tracks have been digitally remastered. The album on which Chicago fully dropped its early jazz-rock roots and went strictly pop, 1973's CHICAGO VI features two of the band's finest singles, the romantic Just You 'N' Me and the uplifting Feelin' Stronger Every Day, along with a solid set of album tracks. Although Robert Lamm's solo piano ballad Critics' Choice reveals a thin skin concerning the group's poor reviews from the hipster press, Terry Kath's What's This World Coming To and Lamm's dreamy Something in This City Changes People are nearly as strong as the big hits. Elsewhere, the country-fried In Terms of Two proves an interesting stylistic detour. Chicago has always been a definitive singles band, but those looking to explore their catalogue beyond the hits should check out this excellent release.

    Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits

    Cut From Analogue Masters

    Original Artwork

With a career spanning over 46 years to the present day, Chicago have firmly established themselves as one of the most successful rock bands in history, boasting 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. The band began as a politically charged, somewhat experimental, rock band that later progressed onto a predominantly softer melodic sound. They found vast international fame thanks to a number of hit ballads within their astonishing 21 top-ten singles.

Released in 1975 Chicago IX: Chicago's Greatest Hits was Chicago's first greatest hits album. It reached #1 in the US during a chart stay of an incredible 72 weeks and went on to go 5 x Platinum in the US.

Every March 17 on St. Patrick's Day, New York City merely paints a green line down the center of its Fifth Avenue parade route-a stunt easily pulled off by any city-but only Chicago dyes an entire river the perfect shade of emerald green to honor Irish culture. Why green? Thanks to Ireland's lush vegetation, the island is often lovingly referred to as the Emerald Isle. To the Irish, a green display of pride is not to be taken lightly. In the United States, even those of non-Irish descent know to wear green clothing on St. Patrick's Day, or else be playfully pinched by an Irish friend or colleague! But it's one thing to don a green shirt or tie, another thing altogether to transform a 156-mile long river. Chicago's Stephen M. Bailey, the man who orchestrated the transformation, boasted that he'd turn the River Chicago into the River Shannon (Ireland's longest) for a day, and, eventually, he did.

There was no specific recipe for successfully dyeing a river. A bit of trial and error was required. Initially, over 100 pounds of dye was used, and the river stayed green for a week! In the second year, 50 pounds of dye kept the river green for three full days. In the third year, it was found that using 25 pounds of dye would turn the river green for a single day. Two years later, environmental concerns led to the formation of a new vegetable-based dye that produces a perfect sea of green and lasts for four or five hours-40 pounds of the stuff does the trick. Following suit across the nation, major canals, minor creeks, city blocks, drinking fountains, and even the Presidential Fountain at the White House are dyed green for St. Patrick's Day-all thanks to the wonderful example set in Chicago.

SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Chicago's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.

NITROGEN-INJECTED HARD-CELL FOAM INSULATION: Nitrogen-Injected Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest's video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen-injected to create air pockets. 'Hard' foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Two ideal audio conductors separate from the cable's shield. Not only does this prevent the shield from being used as an inferior audio path, but it further optimizes sound quality by only grounding the shield at one end, reducing system ground-plane modulation.

COLD-WELDED GOLD-PLATED PLUGS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.

Jordan and Gilmore were big guns in Chicago and unknown elsewhere when they made this album with the dream team of Horace Silver, Curly Russell and Art Blakey. Classic late period festival show from Miles' final tour.

Miles Davis is backed by Kenny Garrett on alto saxophone and flute, Kei Agaki on synths, Richard Patterson on bass, Ricky Wellman on drums, Erin Davis (Mile's youngest son, incorrectly announced as John Bigham) on electronic percussion, and John "Foley" McCreary, Jr. on "lead bass" - a custom Blue Marble instrument tuned almost an octave higher than a standard model to fill the role of a lead guitarist.

The choice of material was equally as curious and exciting, consisting of one cut apiece from 1983's Star People and 1989's Amandla, a few numbers previously un-released on studio recordings, and a trio of covers - Scritti Politti's 'Perfect Way,' Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time' and Michael Jackson's 'Human Nature.'

Despite rumors of failing health during this period, Miles' playing is just as sharp and energetic as ever it was, and his band expertly blend together a complex mixture of jazz, funk and fusion.

Broadcast live on local radio for those unable to attend, this release captures the group's full set providing a snapshot of a jazz great giving one of the finest performances of his late career. Sadly, there were scant opportunities left for such as little more than a year after performing the show, now available here for the first time, Miles Davis passed away at the age of 65.

Clifford Jordan's first date as a leader actually found him sharing a heated jam session with fellow tenor John Gilmore. Backed by pianist Horace Silver, bassist Curly Russell, and drummer Art Blakey, the two saxophonists square off mostly on obscurities (other than Gigi Gryce's Blue Lights and Billie's Bounce). This was one of Gilmore's few sessions outside of Sun Ra's orbit and, if anything, he slightly overshadows the cooler-toned Jordan. Recommended.

    Ultra-High Frequencies: The Chicago Party

For 23 straight Saturday nights of 1982, The Chicago
Party dance show assaulted Chicagoland UHF eyeballs
with Spandex, Southside fly guys, tender tenderonies,
    magicians, contortionists, prismatic video gimmickry,
and lip-synched singles by a rising regime of local post-disco
    casualties. Unfettered nightlife and outlandish
humor poured out of oddball outpost The CopHerBox
II and onto TV screens, presented here as a 100 minute
video mixtape on DVD. Its companion compilation
features five previously unreleased tracks, joined by
music culled from a trove of self-released 45s and
    small-time 12"s. Die-cut cathode-ray jacket and six in-package
stills put the Party at your fingertips.

    Each edition of Ultra-High
Frequencies: The Chicago Party will arrive in one of six
cover configurations, all of which are interchangeable
via printed inner sleeves and enclosed booklet. It also includes our entertaining DVD mix tape,
isolating the most absurd and outrageous moments from
the original broadcasts. Play functions enable viewers
to enjoy 23 unique musical performances, as well as a
mini-documentary about the creation and realization
of The Chicago Party. For fans of electronic soul with
a public access aesthetic, Ultra-High Frequencies: The
Chicago Party is the place to be.

    Buttons: From Champaign to Chicago

At the launch of the Numero label near-on a decade ago, they already had an unquenchable thirst for power pop, glam, and regional bar rock. This affliction led to the double disc Yellow Pills: Prefill compilation, which was intended as the first entry in a series that, they regret to report, got stalled out in committee.

Seven years after its release, YP became the first Numero effort to be put to sleep. Emails began trickling in about the missing catalog number: Would YP ever be issued on vinyl? Would there ever be a second volume? Was The Toms track "Sun" actually recorded in the '80s? Hoping to satiate the masses, the Numero brain trust has conceived Buttons as their brand-spanking-new power pop umbrella, and is pleased to announce the first two titles in the series: Buttons: Starter Kit and Buttons: From Champaign To Chicago.

An homage to the prairie state Numero calls home, From Champaign To Chicago is a 19-track survey of Illinois' cheapest thrills. Reaching back to 1973 and Peoria outliers the Jets and ending in 1987 with Romeoville's Julian Leal and his Dick Clark approved "Get Away," From Champaign to Chicago connects, via map, pins, and string, the various scenes that pockmarked the face of the Land of Lincoln!

    1. Prettyboys - I Wanna Make You! (Chicago)
    2. Julian Leal - Get Away (Romeoville)
    3. All-Night Newsboys - She's Gone Hollywood (Chicago)

Cult Cargo: Salsa Boricula De Chicago

Far from the twin epicenters of New York and Miami, Carlos Ruiz and his Ebirac label were both feeling and generating the aftershocks of the mid-'70s salsa boom. Holed up in their own bustling Puerto Rican community center on Chicago's west side, these third coast salseros plied their trade outside the hot lights, cutting their teeth in city parks, VFW halls, and Holiday Inn rec rooms. Nearly 50 records survive in the wake of orquestas La Justicia, La Solucion, and Tipica Leal '79, the most impassioned, singular moments of which are compiled here.

The concert presented here, recorded at Comiskey Park in Chicago on 9th August '79, featured as part of the tour in support of Evolution clearly demonstrates how far Journey had excelled in just a few short years. Featuring an array of favourites from their back catalogue, including 'Just The Same Way,' 'Lights,' and 'Wheel In The Sky,' this live show is a prime snapshot of a band enjoying fame and beginning to reach the peak of their musical powers, while, incredibly, some of the group's best work was still to come.

We're Gonna Change The World - The 60's Chicago Garage Sound Of Quill Records

Chicago was a great place to be if you were a member of a rock & roll combo in the mid-'60s -- there were plenty of teen clubs, radio stations were happy to play local product, and several Windy City labels were ready and willing to take hometown acts into the studio and get their music into stores. Dunwich Records and USA Records were the biggest labels in Chicago and both scored a handful of national hits, but they were far from the only game in town, and Peter Wright, a successful record promo man who went on to manage the New Colony Six, ran one of the city's most interesting small labels, Quill Records, which released top-notch sides on a number of fine groups and licensed a few of his masters to larger labels out of town.

While Quill only lasted a bit less than two years (from 1966 to 1967), their output was impressive stuff from an eclectic variety of acts, and the great reissue label Sundazed, only a few months after releasing a definitive two-disc overview of the USA Records catalog (2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60's Garage and Psychedelia from U.S.A. and Destination Records), have unearthed 19 highlights from Quill's archives on We're Gonna Change the World! The 60's Chicago Garage Sound of Quill Productions.

Many of Quill's acts followed the trends of the major British acts of the day, but hardly all of them; the Exterminators deliver a screed against long hair and take an America first position on rock with the over the top Declaration of Independence '65, Hot Pastrami by the Don Caron Orchestra is a high-powered instrumental dominated by honking saxophones and fuzzy guitars, and I'm Going to Change the World by the Commons Ltd. suggests the psychedelic revolution that was lurking around the corner while still maintaining a high degree of sneer and swagger.

And even the acts that were looking to the U.K. for inspiration were turning their eyes to unusual places; the Delights were clearly obsessed with the Zombies, so much so that their original tune Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Moment mimics their style just as well as their cover of Just Out of Reach, and the Skunks, who true to their name bleached stripes into their hair, also leaned to the moody side of British pop with Don't Ask Why and a fine cover of the Beatles' It's Only Love (though Do the Duck is a raw and fuzzy celebration of some would-be dance craze).

    1. I'm Cryin' - The Malibu's
    2. Do The Duck - The Skunks
    3. Yes I Know - The Prophets
    4. I'll Have You Cryin' - Chances R

Though born in the Mississippi Delta, Earl Hookers family moved to Chicago when he was just a baby and by the mid-40s he was performing with one of the early legends of Chicago blues, Robert Nighthawk. Hooker is perhaps best known for his distinct slide guitar style and as a sideman for such luminaries as Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and John Lee Hooker (his cousin). In 1968, he assembled a crack band including Pinetop Perkins, and Freddie Roulette, and theyre heard here in fine form on what is probably Hookers most well-known and best recorded effort.

Da Mind Of Traxman Vol. 2

The last few years have seen Chicago footwork rise to international success, and Traxman's debut album - 'The Mind of Traxman' on Planet Mu - played no small part in that. It showcased Cornelius Ferguson's brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the highspeed abstraction of Footwork's house-derived beat science.

    Live In Chicago, 1999 (Pre-Order)

Chicago's Joan of Arc blend post-rock's atmospherics and punk's volume and dynamics. Three members came from the emocore band Cap'n Jazz; when that band broke up, the trio wanted to change their musical direction, removing the boundaries and structures of punk and including more experimental elements like tape loops and electronics. Calling themselves Joan of Arc, the group went on tour with their friends the Promise Ring (who also featured ex-Cap'n Jazz members) in August 1996. After spending the fall of that year writing and recording, the band re-emerged in 1997 with A Portable Model of Joan of Arc, their full-length debut. The album continued Joan of Arc's evolution into an equally hard-hitting and progressive outfit that appealed to emo and post-rock fans alike. The following year they returned with How Memory Works, a more clearly stated version of their ambitious style. Joan of Arc rang in 1999 with the release of Live in Chicago 1999. In February 2003, the band returned with So Much Staying Alive and Lovelessness.

Last November, Jack White's Third Man and John Fahey's Revenant issued The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume One (1917-27), the first installment of the curious tale of America's most important record label. It was called spectacular (New York Times), unprecedented (Rolling Stone), breathtaking (Boing Boing), a cabinet of wonder, indeed (Pitchfork), and the most perfectly realized attempt to combine music and documentation (Fretboard Journal) and damnedest musical objet d'art (Nashville Scene) folks had ever seen.

Third Man-Revenant now presents the final volume in the Paramount story - The Rise & Fall of Paramount Records, Volume Two (1928-32).

As Volume Two begins, Paramount is entitled to a breather - in the previous 5 years it's been home to giants like King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Alberta Hunter, Blind Blake, Ethel Waters, Ma Rainey, Papa Charlie Jackson, Eubie Blake, Fletcher Henderson, Big Bill Broonzy, Roosevelt Sykes, James P. Johnson, Jaybird Coleman, Clarence Williams, and Fats Waller.

But just as it seems the label might be losing steam, it begins a second act that threatens to dwarf its first. In its final 5 year push from 1928-32, Paramount embarks on a furious run for the ages, birthing the entire genre of Mississippi Delta blues and issuing some of the most coveted recordings in the history of wax - a staggering playlist including Skip James, Charley Patton, Son House, Tommy Johnson, Blind Roosevelt Graves, Willie Brown, King Solomon Hill, Tampa Red, Georgia Tom Dorsey, Little Brother Montgomery, Lottie Kimbrough, Rube Lacy, Meade Lux Lewis, Buddy Boy Hawkins, Ramblin' Thomas, Jaydee Short, George Bullet Williams, Cow Cow Davenport, Clifford Gibson, Ishman Bracey, Charlie Spand, Jabo Williams, Louise Johnson, Blind Joe Taggart, Geeshie Wiley & Elvie Thomas, and The Mississippi Sheiks.

Paramount simply killed. But more than that, it changed how this country thought of itself. It was the first and most comprehensive chronicler of what America really sounded like in the 1920s and '30s - on its street corners, at its fish fries and country suppers, in its nightclubs and dance halls and showtents. In the process, Paramount - not some preservationist-minded enterprise like the Library of Congress - inadvertently created the most significant repository of this young nation's greatest art form.

6 LPs feature tracks from the collection.

USB Drive contains 800 digital tracks by 175 artists across the Paramount family of labels.
