Bacharach: The Look of LoveThe Look Of Love, everyone's favorite track from Casino Royale, takes center stage here on this highly-collectible 2 side/2 speed set featuring the silky and sultry vocal dalliances of the great Dusty Springfield. This is a comparison disc cut at 33 1/3 RPM on one side and at 45 RPM on the other. The amount of information and level on both sides is the same with the only differences being the speed at which the lathe was traveling during cutting and that a cartridge can better track the 45 RPM side compared with the 33 RPM side. At 33 Dusty sounds alive, at 45 she is in the room with you! Available now on Classic Records Clarity Vinyl SVP-II 200g.
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% of the highest quality co-polymer available, a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LPs. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause electrical distortions in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the electrical distortions and thus bring more clarity to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.1. Silk & SoulRecorded in New York in 1967, Silk & Soul is Nina Simone's second album for RCA.
And despite arrangements that don't always best suit her voice, this album does contain classics 'I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free', which would become a Civil Rights anthem, 'It Be's That Way Sometimes', written by her brother Sam Waymon, and 'The Turning Point', a song that seems to be about a child making a new friend, but turns out to question the origins of racism.
Ms Simone also takes on Dusty Springfield by covering 'The Look Of Love', which was originally featured in the 1966 James Bond spoof Casino Royale and is greatly inspired by Mozart in the fugue-like 'Consummation'.It Be's That Way Sometime

Originally released in 1967, Silk & Soul was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1968 for the song You'll Go To Hell. Aretha Franklin won the award over Simone.
Besides the Grammy nominated tune, the album includes Simone's version of Bacharach's The Look of Love which was written for the 1967 movie Casino Royale.
After moving from the blues to soul for her second RCA album, Nina Simone's extroverted, confident delivery proved a natural match with the ranks of soul shouters working the crowds during the late '60s. ... the less familiar tunes, like the highlight It Be's That Way Sometimes (written by Simone's brother Sam Waymon), Go to Hell, and I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free, a trio of songs Nina Simone has no trouble making her own. - John Bush, allmusic.com
