Featuring Guest Appearances By Babyface, Steven Tyler, Celine Dion. Wynton Marsalis And K.D. Lang

Carole King is the most successful female songwriter of the 20th century, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1955 and 1999. She also wrote 61 hits that charted in the UK, making her the most successful female songwriter on the UK singles charts between 1952 and 2005.

Carole King has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be honored this way.

Love Makes The World by Carole King was officially released in 2001 and is now finally available on vinyl for the first time. The album features a variety of well-known musicians like Babyface, Steven Tyler, Celine Dion, Wynton Marsalis and K.D. Lang.

King's distinctive piano and heartfelt vocals belt out tunes with spare accompaniment. The string quartet on Uncommon Love seems organically relaxed and K.D. Lang remains appropriately low-key throughout the duet.

The yearning of You Will Find Me There recalls the simple poetic honesty of You've Got a Friend both lyrically and musically.

Love Makes the World is the classiest and most consistent collection of songs since the late '70s.

    The Carnegie Hall Concert

From-the-Vault Live Release Captures Iconic Singer-Songwriter at Height of Her Breakout Period

Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Tapes: Intimate Sonics Make It Seem Like King is Sitting Five Feet Away

Stripped-Down Songs Teem With Warmth, Nuance, Emotion; James Taylor Also Appears

Every so often, a from-the-vault release captures our hearts, minds, and attention in such a way that its impossible not to tell all family, friends, and neighbors about its existence. Originally issued to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Tapestry, Carole Kings The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 is such a record, a fortunate document of an absolutely magical period in the singer-songwriters legendary career and a revealing look at the then-stagefright artist turning in a commanding performance just as she was becoming a superstar.

Half-speed mastered from the original tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180g LP of this compelling concert album brims with liveliness, depth, dimension, detail, and transparency. The nuances of Kings spare performances and warm vocals emanate as if shes sitting five feet away. Stripped down even further than they are on the studio albums, songs breathe with palpable earnestness and emotion, the subtle differences from their more polished studio brethren allowing listeners an insight into Kings creative genius.

At the time of its recording, King still suffered from shynessand who could blame her? She had been accustomed to penning lyrics for other artists and sitting behind a desk in the Brill Building. Only recently did King strike out on her own and enter the public realm. This set encapsulates this contrast in thrilling fashion. Disarmingly genuine and daringly honest, The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 benefits from the inclusion of Kings nervous between-song banter that exposes who she is as a person and performer. Most importantly, despite her anxiety, she turns out stirring renditions of tunes from 1970s Writer, Tapestry, and even a few from Music.

Her control is demonstrated on the records six opening cuts, which feature King alone at her piano. For the remainder of the program, shes accompanied by guitarist Danny Kortchman, bassist Charles Larkey, and a string quartet, which enter and exit according to arrangement. As such, the concert is profoundly intimate and personal, an unplugged session that predated the use of the term by nearly two decades. Longtime collaborator James Taylor joins her for a memorable medley of some of her biggest hitsWill You Love Me Tomorrow/Some Kind of Wonderful/Up on the Roofthe chemistry evident of why the duos 2010 tour was one of the most in-demand outings in years.

Mobile Fidelitys remastered sound ties everything together and is what makes this release extra special. By going to the original source, the audiophile label considerably opens up the sonic perspectives, revealing the spacious acoustics of the famed venue that act in concert with Kings music. In particular, the songs from Writer benefit from the no-nonsense production. You can literally picture Kings piano beside her, and her voicesincere, tender, melodicis rich, full-bodied, and penetrating. Listeners can even hear it crack on occasion, the results a consequence of her nerves. Unpolished and non-synthetic, the performance is better for it.

No, they dont make albums like this anymore. The Carnegie Hall Concert: June 18, 1971 as real as it gets. And so is the sound. Get your collectible copy now!

Feel the Earth Move: Mobile Fidelity Gives Listeners the End-All-Be-All Definitive Analog Version of the Long-Time Audiophile Classic

Analog Reissue True to Producer's Original Intent of Putting Carole King in the Room With You: Experience and Feel Every Organic Nuance, Suggestive Delivery, Intimate Note

Blockbuster Album Defined Singer-Songwriter Movement, Swept Grammy Awards, Spawned Four Hit Singles, Sold More Than 25 Million Copies Worldwide

Ranked #36 on Rolling Stone's List of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time

Carole King's Tapestry is one of the rare albums that immediately plays in your head the moment its title, cover art, or songs are mentioned. Having achieved status of near-mythical proportions, it is the singer-songwriter record you'd bring to the proverbial desert island if you were limited to one choice. Renowned for its lifelike production, Tapestry now sounds clearer, richer, and more emotional courtesy of Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP. Audiophiles, this is the version that brings Carole King right before your eyes and into your room. This is the edition you need. It's the edition you deserve.

Faithful to original album producer Lou Adler's vision of making King (and not just any pianist player) appear seated and playing in front of listeners, this numbered limited-edition 180g LP delivers utmost transparency, balance, warmth, intimacy, and perhaps most importantly, feeling. Aware of how many times this iconic work has been re-released, Mobile Fidelity engineers settled for nothing less than the absolute finest sonic presentation possible when mastering Tapestry from the original master tapes.

The results mirror what went down in the A&M Studios. Lean, simple, direct, and so nakedly real the sonics evoke what might be heard on a professional demo tape, this collectable LP gives what Rolling Stone deems the 36th Greatest Album of All Time the due it deserves. King's personal singing, her graceful pianism, the integral rhythmic foundation provided by the likes of drummer Russ Kunkel and guitarist Danny Kortchmar, and the symmetrical contributions of guest instrumentalists ranging from saxophonist Curtis Amy to guitarist James Taylor resonate with three-dimensional imaging and cozy realism. Every note, every basic movement, accurately rendered with exquisite detail and full-bodied tonality.

Indeed, one reason-apart from the flawless songwriting, earnest deliveries, and eloquent performances-Tapestry endures is because of the naturalness of the production and songs. King's unadulterated articulations on love, conviction, friendship, place, sadness, and companionship ring true because there's no doubting their meaning, intent, or sincerity. Tapestry makes you feel, and compels you to get closer to the music, and the musicians performing. It is an album of organic nuances, suggestive intents, and engaging melodies.

    Music

Released on the heels of her breakthrough, Tapestry, Carole Kings Music is every bit the equal of its more famous predecessor, a Number One smash that features impeccable songwriting, infallible melodies, and extraordinary piano playing. In short, everything thats made King an institution. After of years of being overshadowed, this 1971 singer-songwriter classic has finally been given the audiophile treatment its long deserved.

Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited-edition 180g LP of Kings second solo masterpiece is rife with intimacy, transparency, soulfulness, and you-are-there sound. Never before remastered, Music seems like a brand-new album, Kings familiar voice, intelligent arrangements, and ravishing support band presented on a deep, three-dimensional soundstage. Your appreciation for and understanding of Kings inspirational lyrics and ravishing performances will increase tenfold. Mobile Fidelitys 180g LP brings you that much closer.

Accompanied by percussionist Bobbye Hall, drummer Russ Kinkel, guitarist/vocalist James Taylor, and a cavalcade of professional wind musicians, King delves further into R&B and jazz-derived pop, coming up aces every time. Warm, intelligent, and cohesive, songs echo with simplicity and honesty. And as is typical of much of Kings work, several of tunes here were later covered by other artists, including Its Going To Take Some Time (the Carpenters). Yet the originals trump the later renditions, and the rendition of the standard Some Kind of Wonderful stands as the best ever recorded.

With Taylor lending more of a hand on Music than he does on Tapestry, King expands her confident reach on the piano and peppers the songs with graceful touches of saxophone, flute, pedal-steel guitar, and woodwinds. Ballads sway (Surely), gospel brightness lifts spirits (Brighter), and backup vocals float heavenly pop (Song of Long Ago). Yet the best aspect is Kings voice, infused with fondness, concern, joy, and a quiet power that parallels the delicacy and deliberate nature that define Music.

Mobile Fidelitys audiophile edition is free of the limiting artifacts that have helped keep this record in the dark for the better part of the past few decades. Previously diminished, acoustic guitars, subtle brass elements, and soft percussion contribute to the enjoyment of the songs, and Kings voicepleasant, assuring, emotionalcomes through with incredible clarity and inflection. The brilliance of the legendary Lou Adlers original production is restored to its full glory.

If its at all possibleand it isthis treasure now sounds even more heartwarming than it did upon original release. The companion to Tapestry, Music is an auraland sonicdelight.

Mastered Impeccably From The Colgems Records Tapes By Joe Reagoso

1968 was an interesting year for The Monkees. Aside from releasing more hit singles & another smash Lp with The Birds The Bees & The Monkees, future superstar and upcoming filmmaker Jack Nicholson, Bob Rafelson & The Monkees were developing the concept for a psychedelic film about this successful rock band who were trying to escape from their manufactured image. Albeit an underlying glimpse of reality, the movie wound up being a swan song for the original line-up of the band until 1996's Justus. As the Head movie was underrated at the time, it has since gone on to become ranked as one of the finest films in the rock genre.

The original soundtrack of Head by The Monkees has a history itself as being one of their strongest albums with stellar material ranging from The Monkees' Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, plus more great tracks from Harry Nilsson and Carole King with musical help from friends like Carole King, Stephen Stills and Dewey Martin from Buffalo Springfield.

A hit single emerged with Porpoise Song featuring the powerful lead vocal of Micky Dolenz, as the rest of the album is interwoven with keen Monkees dialog and skits that were in the original film, plus the stellar score by Ken Thorne.

In honor of The Monkees, Friday Music is once again pleased to continue the celebration of the Monkees Golden Anniversary with The Monkees Head Alternate. This first-time vinyl album features first-time vinyl versions of Porpoise Song, rarities like Can You Dig It with Peter Tork's vocal, Daddy's Song remixed with the long sought after Davy Jones' slow verse, and the rare stereo mix of Circle Sky.

Produced by The Monkees in 1968, this stunning new version is now impeccably mastered by Monkees fan and friend Joe Reagoso and pressed on 180 Gram Audiophile Translucent Gold Vinyl.

For the very limited Golden Anniversary edition, the LP cover will be manufactured with a stunning gold foil front and back, featuring a rare alternate color photo of the band on the back cover.

What if your favorite children s book were not only a timeless story but came with a soundtrack of tunes that kids and grown-ups alike would love? Hold onto your boots... it s here! Among the many gems featured include songs from Carole King, Woody Guthrie, Donovan, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Garcia, Nina Simone, Kermit The Frog and more. Inspired by the classic Little Golden Books Series and Sesame Street s In Harmony albums, This Record Belongs To: stems from a love of music, reading, and a passion for teaching future generations the interactive experience of holding an album in your hands, putting needle to groove, and immersing yourself in the pages of a record s sleeve as the music plays. The compilation was compiled and sequenced by DJ and friend, Zach Cowie, who is as dear to our hearts as this collection of songs (previously passed around as a gift between friends) and is the soundtrack for many LITA & TMR offspring. These kiddos now all have undeniably excellent taste in tunes. The record is accompanied by an original, full-color storybook illustrated by acclaimed artist, Jess Rotter, which tells the tale of five forest pals who find a mysterious object a round, flat disc that they proceed to investigate. Dusty In Memphis

Ranked 89/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Britain's greatest pop diva Dusty Springfield was the finest white soul singer of her era and this landmark Atlantic Records album from 1969 is a masterpiece, a perfect marriage of pop and soul...contains her top 10 hit Son Of A Preacher Man plus several other hit singles and classic tracks...

Originally released in 1969, the concept for Dusty In Memphis was to take England's reigning female soul queen to the home of the music which had inspired her. Produced by Atlantic's Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin and engineered by Tom Dowd, the record's highlights include Son Of A Preacher Man, So Much Love, Breakfast In Bed, Just One Smile, I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore and Just A Little Lovin'. Springfield is backed by a crack band that had previously worked with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, King Curtis and Elvis Presley among others. The musicians - collectively known as the Memphis Cats - include guitarist Reggie Young, bassist Tommy Cogbill, drummer Gene Chrismann, pianist Bobby Wood and Bobby Emmons on organ and electric piano. Songwriting contributions came from, among others, Randy Newman, Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil. Dusty Springfield is one of the finest white soul singers of her era, and this is the undisputed proof.

    Now That Everything's Been Said

We all know the Carole King who wrote some of the biggest hits of the '60s, from "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" to "Pleasant Valley Sunday," via "The Locomotion" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." We also know the singer-songwriter behind Tapestry, the album that launched King as a solo singer in her own right. But in between-and not nearly as well known-is King's band, The City, and their album, Now That Everything's Been Said.

By the mid-'60s, King's marriage to Gerry Goffin, with whom she'd written many of those wonderful hits, had hit the rocks. A divorce loomed, and King all but retired to raise their two daughters. She headed west to Laurel Canyon in '67, taking the children with her, and made the previously unlikely move of joining a progressive folk-rock band. King formed The City with future husband Charles Larkey on bass and Danny Kortchmar on guitar and vocals. With King on piano and vocals, they created a folk rock sound that pre-empted the singer-songwriter boom of the '70s.

Produced by Lou Adler and featuring Jimmy Gordon on drums, The City's sound is deep and soulful, imperfect but passionate. And the songs, with King writing or co-writing all but one, are as exceptional as you'd expect and as widely covered as her factory work. "Now That Everything's Been Said" was a hit for American Spring, "A Man Without A Dream" was tackled by The Monkees, and "Hi-De-Ho (That Old Sweet Roll)" was a hit for Blood, Sweat & Tears. Central to the album's appeal is King's own stirring reading of her track "Wasn't Born To Follow," covered masterfully by The Byrds for the Easy Rider soundtrack.

King had been used to a life on the sidelines, and her stage fright left the trio unable to tour the LP which adversely affected their fortunes. That, plus some behind-the-scenes distribution problems, meant the album was quickly deleted, and it remained so for the next thirty years-partly at King's request. Even so, its failure was a surprise to those concerned. "I was 26 when Now That Everything's Been Said was released in 1968," King says of the album. "[We] expected it to zoom to the top of the charts within, at most, a few weeks. Individually and together, we optimistically imagined the album's success as if it had already happened. Danny and Charlie kept telling each other, 'It's a great album. The City is gonna be Number 1 with a bullet!'

Listening now, you can feel the threads that lead to Tapestry and to the hugely successful performing career that followed. It's not so much an oddity in King's work as the missing link between her two lives. Reissued here in deluxe vinyl, this is, at long last, a chance to own this lost album.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, produced by Jason Howland and Steve Sidwell with Kurt Deutsch serving as executive producer, was recorded Feb. 17.

The musical's score comprises songs Carole King penned with Gerry Goffin as well as tunes Barry Mann wrote with Cynthia Weil.

Based on King's life and music, Beautiful had its world premiere earlier this season at San Francisco's Curran Theatre. The Broadway production began previews Nov. 21, 2013, prior to an official opening Jan. 12 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing produce the musical that features a book by Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath, who collaborated with Woody Allen on the screenplay for Bullets Over Broadway. He also penned Infamous and Emma.

Marc Bruni (Pipe Dream, Ordinary Days, Old Jews Telling Jokes) stages the production with choreography by Josh Prince and musical direction by Jason Howland.

Tony Award nominee Mueller (Mystery of Edwin Drood, On a Clear Day, Nice Work If You Can Get It) stars as King. Appearing as her musical collaborators are Jake Epstein (Degrassi, Spider-Man) as Gerry Goffin, Anika Larsen (Xanadu, Avenue Q) as Cynthia Weil and Jarrod Spector (Jersey Boys) as Barry Mann. Principal casting also includes Jeb Brown as producer/publisher Don Kirshner and Liz Larsen as King's mother, Genie Klein.

The ensemble features Ashley Blanchet, E. Clayton Cornelious, Joshua Davis, Alysha Deslorieux, Kevin Duda, James Harkness, Carly Hughes, Sara King, Rebecca LaChance, Douglas Lyons, Chris Peluso, Gabrielle Reid, Rashidra Scott, Sara Sheperd, Yasmeen Sulieman, Daniel Torres, Melvin Tunstall and Alan Wiggins.

The complete creative team includes Derek McLane (set design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Brian Ronan (sound design), Charles G. LaPointe (wig and hair design), Steve Sidwell (orchestrations and music arrangements), Jason Howland (music supervision) and John Miller (music coordination).

Here's how the creators bill the musical: Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

Beautiful is produced by Paul Blake, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Jeffrey A. Sine, Richard A. Smith, Mike Bosner, Harriet N. Leve/Elaine Krauss, Terry Schnuck, Orin Wolf, Patty Baker/Good Productions, Roger Faxon, Larry Magid, Kit Seidel, Lawrence S. Toppall, Fakston Productions/Mary Solomon, William Court Cohen, John Gore, BarLor Productions, Matthew C. Blank, Tim Hogue, Joel Hyatt, Marianne Mills, Michael J. Moritz, Jr., StylesFour Productions, Brunish/Trinchero, and Jeremiah J. Harris.

    The Notorious Byrd Brothers (MONO)

Ranked 171/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

The Byrds pull no punches kicking off their fifth album, 1968's The Notorious Byrd Brothers, with Artificial Energy, a devastating haymaker aimed at the go-fast generation. In the blink of an eye, they're into the most beautiful baroque folk-rock ever created, the Carole King/Gerry Goffin-penned Goin' Back. It was the song that caused David Crosby to leave the band (witness the empty horse stall on the cover photo) an odd reaction, considering most of Notorious was layered with a phased and eerie deep-space vibe that seemed to come from another galaxy. Space Odyssey is the perfect post-film mint for Stanley Kubrick's intergalactic thriller 2001: A Space Odyssey. The heartbreak of Draft Morning says plenty about being eligible for conscription during the Vietnam War, while Wasn't Born To Follow was a perfect fit for silver screen epic Easy Rider, whose main characters were based directly on McGuinn and Crosby.

Insanely rare and unavailable for over 40 years, we're proud to present the first ever reissue of this monumental recording in its original, highly-sought-after mono incarnation, cut directly from the original Columbia Recordings analog mono masters, with perfect artwork restoration and meticulously faithful mastering.

    Instant Replay

The Monkees have been one of the world's most enduring rock and pop acts of all time. Since their beginnings in 1966, their television show, multiplatinum albums, hit singles and concert tours truly made The Monkees one of the most colossal stories in the music business. In 1969, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Micky Dolenz went back to the studio as a trio this time and recorded the classic Instant Replay album. Noted for their hit single Tear Drop City, this masterwork also found The Monkees reuniting with the production team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart for several of the tracks as well as previous team Monkees writers like Carole King and Neil Sedaka, and highly touted producers like Bones Howe (The Association/Tom Waits) and Shorty Rogers and resulted in some of the finest collaborations ever with this superstar act. Instant Replay also offered the first look at Michael Nesmith's experimental and groundbreaking recording sessions in Nashville as well as solid compositions from all three Monkees.

Opening up with the pop rocker Through The Looking Glass, Micky Dolenz is on top of his game vocally with a brilliant background of horns, Bobby Hart on piano and guitar work by legends Keith Allison (Paul Revere & The Raiders) and Gerry McGee (The Ventures/John Mayall). A major fan favorite, this classic was performed at many of the reunion concerts over the years. The late great Davy Jones belts out another Boyce and Hart classic with the haunting ballad Don't Listen To Linda. The tune truly resonated with the fans back then and continues to be one of the more appreciated classics in his long list of time tested Monkees favorites. Carole King and Gerry Goffin's I Won't Be The Same Without Her features a strong vocal performance by Michael Nesmith and the stunning guitar work of both Monkees' Peter Tork and Glen Campbell. A real summer time feeling song, this track would be a nice bridge to Micky Dolenz's orchestral masterpiece Just A Game.

It is no secret that Nesmith was a fan of country music, but also lauded as one of the first pioneers of the country rock genre, not only with his contributions to the earlier Monkees' recordings as far back as Papa Gene's Blues, even for other noted artists like Linda Ronstadt for whom he penned her first smash single Different Drum. For the Instant Replay album, Nesmith ventured to Nashville's RCA Studios and cut Don't Wait For Me, the first released tune from his now famous Nashville sessions. With the fusion of country studio players and the voice and guitar of Michael Nesmith, The Monkees again were on the forefront of this new genre and would continue with this groundbreaking sound ever more so into future classics like The Monkees Present.

As the '60s would come to a close, Davy Jones would also contribute his major impact on the generation with his truly hip and psychedelic masterpiece You And I. Noted for its hard rock opening to side two, the track also features the stunning lead guitar textures of Neil Young who recently departed with The Buffalo Springfield. More favorites like Nesmith's While I Cry is one of the artist's finest compositions of the era. With Mike's beautiful acoustic guitar work and help from friends like Harry Nilsson, this ballad would truly become one of the more enduring songs from this 1969 classic Monkees album.

Neil Sedaka and Carol Bayer Sager contribute one of the classiest Monkees ballads ever with The Girl I Left Behind Me. Once again, the late great Davy Jones provides a superstar vocal second to none, with a soulful orchestra fill and band setting featuring the production and skillful piano work of Neil Sedaka, while Micky Dolenz would close out the album with his classic Shorty Blackwell. The whimsical tale of Micky's cat and a nod to his friends The Beatles' A Day In The Life, Shorty Blackwell would take almost a year to record and feature a bevy of the original wrecking crew of Hollywood musicians like drummer Jim Gordon (Eric Clapton/Traffic), Tommy Tedesco on guitar and even his sister Coco Dolenz on vocals. This track along with the other eleven tunes make this one of the more enduring and loved albums in the superior catalog of Monkees classics.

    He's A Rebel

Although it was assembled quickly in 1963 to take advantage of the chart success of its eponymous title anthem, the Crystals' second album is a near-perfect summation of this seminal girl group's effortless appeal and the surging majesty of Phil Spector's production genius. Between the group's winsome vocals, the massed muscle of Spector's legendary studio band the Wrecking Crew, and the stellar songwriting of such Brill Building pros as Carole King, Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil and Doc Pomus, He's A Rebel is one of the most beloved items in the Philles label catalog.

While most listeners didn't know it at the time, the Gene Pitney-penned He's A Rebel was actually recorded by Darlene Love and her studio group the Blossoms, and released under the Crystals' name. Love also takes the lead on the effervescent hit He's Sure the Boy I Love. Under any name, however, these are among the most thrilling items in the Spector canon.

Along with such memorable early Crystals classics as Uptown, There's No Other (Like My Baby) and Oh Yeah, Maybe Baby, He's A Rebel also features the controversial Goffin/King composition He Hit Me (It Felt Like A Kiss). Originally released as a single in 1962, the song's emotionally raw subject matter scared off radio programmers, and Spector quickly had it withdrawn from release. In the years since, the song has gained near-mythical status, and its inclusion here is a handy reminder of the power of Spector's singular artistry.

Only in America can a young lad from Manchester, England break into show business playing The Artful Dodger in Oliver in New York City...winning accolades and a Tony Award nomination from the theater world one day.... and then mastering his craft on The Ed Sullivan Show the same night of The Beatles huge breakthrough, then signing a deal with Colpix Records the same night! A year later, he and three other gents became runaway teen idols on television, topping the charts all over the world as The Monkees, outselling The Beatles for a period and maintaining the coveted number one slot with several hit singles and albums over the next few years ..... Only in America.

This isn't make believe. It is the fabulous rise to fame in a hurry story courtesy of a superstar pop rock legend Davy Jones ..and the massive recording career that started with his long out of print first album David Jones.

Recorded throughout 1965 with a bevy of the hottest songwriters in the Columbia Pictures stable, this pop gem contained the rudiments of a major career which has endured for many years since.

Prior to his untimely death in 2012, Davy proudly noted to Friday Music "Did you know that Dream Girl went to number one in Australia?" Relaying the fact that Philly artist Van McCoy wrote this northern soul sounding track, Jones truly smiled at the U.K. term as this song had the arrangements and feel of r&b bands of the day like The Drifters and The Shirelles. This soulful side of Davy Jones would later show up on The Monkees hits like She Hangs Out, A Man Without A Dream and Forget That Girl.

The album's second single What Are We Going To Do? was a slight departure. It followed more of a Brit pop feel, and it warranted solid chart exposure as well as appearances on national TV shows like Shindig!

The brightest stars of the classic pop era also contributed to this album and would soon follow Davy Jones on his path to Monkeemania. Superstars like Carole King/Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, David Gates from Bread, Toni Wine who would later sing lead vocals on The Archies records and Bob Dylan with It Ain't Me Babe, which was also a hit for The Turtles that same year.

Friday Music is proud to offer this fine album for the first time in fifty years! This first time 180 gram audiophile vinyl Lp is now mastered impeccably by Joe Reagoso (The Monkees) from the super rare Colpix Records stereo tapes, which truly shows a transition from pop crooner to future rock star.

In 1967, the David Jones l.p. charted thanks to his rise to fame as a member of The Monkees and the album cover was cleverly featured in The Monkees TV show episode, Monkees At The Movies.

    The King's Gift

A Christmas album of Celtic carols, The King's Gift ("Tiodhlac An Righ," in Gaelic) pays tribute to an ancient genre and transports the listener to a time of mystery and valor. Last Christmas (2012), Trace's Celtic version of "We Three Kings" was released and will be featured on the album.

Esteemed guests join Adkins on his first-ever holiday album since his Platinum debut sixteen years ago. Guests include renowned Irish ensemble, The Chieftains; Scottish vocalist Alyth McCormack, British folk/pop star Emma Stevens, multi-award winning family group, The Isaacs; Kevin Costner and daughter Lily Costner; and legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff. The keyboards, acoustic, steel and bass guitars of American folk music harmonize with the weissenborn, mandolin, uilleann pipe, penny whistle, violin, viola, cello, harp, and organ.

"The Christmas Show" Tour begins a new Adkins holiday tradition for years to come. Envisioned as a theatrical production, Trace will alternate between fireside story-telling of anecdotes (both personal and historical) and performances of classic carols with a 12 piece ensemble - a quartet string section, female vocalists and a range of traditional instruments. The tour is inspired by Adkins' annual hosting duties at Disney World's Candlelight Processional, where his deep baritone narrates Christmas stories, while a full choir and orchestra performs. It has always been a highlight of Trace's year and he is thrilled to bring his own unique version of this concept on tour.

Simple Things by Carole King was originally released in 1977. The track Hardrock CafÉ was a big success in charts around the globe, but this album contains many more precious moments.

It's a very bold sounding album, with songs that feature a lot of dramatic instrumental references. Simple Things has a reference to her early solo work. Most notifiable is the wall of sound type pop, she often created during her Brill Building days.
Carole King seemed to have come musically full circle with this exciting album and over the years, Simple Things has become somewhat of a favorite gem amongst the many Carole King fans.

The Watson Twins' new album Talking To You, Talking To Me is undoubtedly their most ambitious to date. The new album finds the sisters Watson taking a soulful turn à la Carole King, but with a distinct pop edge reminiscent of Feist. The result is a heartfelt nod to their roots, retaining the ethereal harmonies that have become their signature while incorporating a myriad of influences and inspirations. Along with a band of friends including members of Everest and My Morning Jacket, the twins recorded the album at Los Angeles' famed Fairfax Recordings, capturing the essence of The Watson Twins' extraordinary talents on a record that is at once driving, poignant and beautiful.
