    Humanure

Cattle Decapitation can be described as the bastard child of Cannibal Corpse and Carcass weaving a vicious blend of Gore-grind and Death Metal into complex structures with the end result being some of the most brutal and catchy songs written in the genre today. Cattle Decapitation takes a different approach to their song writing than most bands of the same sort that tend to focus mainly on fictional subject matter. The new album Humanure starts off where their debut album on Metal Blade To Serve Man left off, dealing with the rape of the earth, it's natural resources, and the unjust treatment of animals. Humanure will be the album that metalheads have been longing for; something as ferocious as Cannibal Corpse, something as gutturally disgusting as Carcass, something offensively disturbing as Autopsy, and something as politically charged as Napalm Death.

Hailing from San Diego, CA Cattle Decapitation originally formed in 1996. The lineup initially featured David Astor on bass and Gabe Serbian on drums, both of whom were then also members of the underground phenomena The Locust. Seeking a replacement for their original vocalist, the band turned to Travis Ryan, who had actually been playing drums for another San Diego metal band, Strangulation, in addition to serving as vocalist in a gore metal band called Anal Flatulence. With Ryan on board, Astor moved from bass to drums, and Serbian moved from drums to guitar. The 3-piece quickly released two albums, the Human Jerky LP (on the Nevada label Satan's Pimp) and the Homovore CD/LP. Next, they added a bassist, Troy Oftedal, with whom they recorded their third full-length, To Serve Man, released in the fall of 2002 on Metal Blade, a move that would expose them to more of a death metal-oriented audience (as opposed to the hardcore/grindcore one that they had mostly been playing to before). In 2002, the band added a second guitarist, Josh Elmore (formerly of 7000 Dying Rats), who eventually took over as the band's sole guitarist after Serbian left in order to devote himself more fully into the Locust.

Recorded with producer Bill Metoyer (Slayer, WASP, Six Feet Under) Humanure will feature the latest addition to the band, drummer Michael Laughlin. The band parted ways with drummer David Astor in May of 2003 due to inability to live up to the obligations of touring and regular necessities of the band. Michael, previously of CREATION IS CRUCIFIXION, is most definitely a fitting replacement. Humanure has guest appearances by ex-members of the band including Gabe Serbian and the rest of his band The Locust and the original vocalist, Scott Miller.

    Surgical Steel

Without a doubt, UK legends CARCASS have released several classic albums over the years and changed the trajectory of extreme metal with each consecutive release. Whether it was inventing gore-grind (i.e. »Reek of Putrefaction«, »Symphonies of Sickness«) or creating the template for melodic death metal (i.e. »Heartwork«), CARCASS has always made records by which bars were set and rules were broken. Upon their untimely demise in 1996, fans mourned the loss of the seminal act and longed that the group would one day be exhumed from their premature grave. After an 18 year hiatus, CARCASS has been fully reanimated and it's safe to say, they haven't missed a pathological step.

With »Surgical Steel«, CARCASS has risen to the occasion and given fans an album that holds up to their classic repertoire, delivering another milestone in their highly influential career. Everything a CARCASS fan could want is on this record, with every era of the band represented. Its genesis however was not without its fair share of blood, sweat and tears of course. Long-time producer Colin Richardson actually walked out on the mixing sessions after tracking, possibly burnt out from the stress of having to top such landmark productions as »Heartwork«. The equally renowned Andy Sneap (TESTAMENT, EXODUS, MEGADETH) stepped in at this time to mix the record, and put the finishing touches on their long-awaited masterpiece. The result is a combination of talent that should undoubtedly go unmatched for an undetermined stretch of time.

In an era seemingly content to endlessly chug away at their e-strings in various rhythmic denominations, CARCASS has brought the power of the riff back to a generation. Songs like `The Master Butcher's Apron´, `Unfit for Human Consumption´, `The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills´, `Noncompliance to ASTM F899-12 Standard´, are sure to become classics and put an air-guitar in the hands of every man, woman and child within earshot. Only the choicest of cuts were made to bring us a record worthy of the CARCASS legacy. In short, »Surgical Steel« is just what the doctor ordered.

    Gore Metal: A Necrospective

Originally released in 1998, EXHUMED's now-classic debut full-length, Gore Metal, was a boundary defying offering of filth-ridden, grinding, over-the-top death-metal. Unrepentantly fast, furious and maniacal, Gore Metal gleamed with a delightful audio repugnance bedecked in blazing riff infiltrations, slasher-film-inspired lyrics and vile cover art. It was the record that made Carcass seem PG-rated by comparison and thus certified itself as a true underground classic.

Not content to let the album rot away, EXHUMED returned to the studio almost two decades later to re-record the landmark offering. The resulting Gore Metal: A Necrospective 1998 - 2015, set for release this February via Relapse Records, maintains the maniacal ferocity of the original recordings while adding depth to the sonic devourment thanks in no small part to years of touring and a vastly improved-sounding recording quality.

Proclaims vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey: I'm super pumped that we got the chance to re-recordGore Metal. I don't think any of us were happy with how it turned out the first time around, so getting another shot at it meant a lot to me personally. I was also really excited to have our old friend Ross Sewage reprise his vocals on the new version, ensuring that it still sounds like that era ofEXHUMED, though things are a lot more audible this time around!

    The Garden Of Unearthly Delights

Mighty Doom icons CATHEDRAL from Coventry, England for sure are one of the most unique and unpredictable acts around. These legendary merchants of slow-motion sound could care less about redundant genre restrictions and have so far incorporated everything from Doom, Psych, Folk up to Funk in their works. With their eighth album The Garden Of Unearthly Delights CATHEDRAL have achieved much more than simply living up to that reputation - the guys created timeless songs that couldn`t be farther away from standardisation, stagnation and convention.

Produced by Warren Ryker (DOWN, CROWBAR), The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is probably the most varied effort of the band so far. While a song like 'North Berwick Witch Trials' will bring back memories of such immortal riffs`n`groove as in 'Hopkins' or 'Ride', 'Tree Of Life And Death' simply tears everything to pieces with its ultra-heavy guitar sound and fierce vocals courtesy of Lee Dorrian.

The centerpiece of it all certainly is the 27-minute-long mammoth epos 'The Garden' that almost bursts with such a wealth of ideas and changes in atmosphere that other bands probably couldn`t come up with on a whole album. Using every stylistic device from female vocals up to violins and embedding it all in that typical CATHEDRAL brand of Doom, The Garden Of Unearthly Delights is a treat for every fan of the band, old and new alike.

Starting with quite sinister and ultra-slow songs on the 1990 EP In Memorium and the full-length album Forest Of Equilibrium, CATHEDRAL quickly gained cult status. The 1992 follow-up EP Soul Sacrifice brought changes soundwise and saw the band mixing traditional Doom with 70s - Hardrock and showed a first glimpse of the trademarks CATHEDRAL still represent nowadays.

After having previously toured with MORBID ANGEL and SAINT VITUS, the band embarked on the legendary Gods Of Grind - Tour with ENTOMBED, CARCASS and CONFESSOR. „The Ethereal Mirror" featured alltime faves like 'Ride' and 'Midnight Mountain' and suddenly gave CATHEDRAL the reputation as „the next big thing in Metal".

Struggling with this label, the band started to experiment on the EP Statik Majik and probably tried out every single instrument they could lay their hands on to churn out a 20-minute-track like 'Voyage Of The Homeless Sapien'. After touring with BLACK SABBATH, the guys went on to record the landmark „The Carnival Bizarre" in 1996 that brought us immortal tunes such as 'Hopkins (The Witchfinder General)' and 'Utopian Blaster' - the latter featuring Tony Iommi on guitar. Supernatural Birth Machine was released in 1996 after touring in South America, Europe and Japan amongst others. The catchy songwriting on that album echoed on Caravan Beyond Redemption in 1998, but with a heavier twist to it. The next serious change in style occurred on the gloomy and sludgy Endtyme that went almost completely without sound experiments and concentrated on ultra-grim riffing. 2002`s The VIIth Coming combined catchiness with heaviness to form a well-balanced mixture between old and new CATHEDRAL.

Now that the English fourpiece has returned with The Garden Of Unearthly Delights it`s time to follow them for new adventures in sound

    Abhorrent Endings

New Lows are one of Boston's heaviest bands, taking inspiration from legends like Ringworm, (early) Bolt Thrower, and others. Their previous release Harvest of the Carcass (Deathwish 2011) was highly praised by kids and critics worldwide as one of the heaviest releases of that year. A release that led to New Lows infamously touring the United States with Nails, Ringworm, and label mates Bitter End.

Abhorrent Endings is the latest offering from New Lows. A crude five song crusher that shows the band digging into the rubble in search of something darker and heavier than ever before. A purposefully unpolished and brilliantly flawed exercise in aural chaos that will leave you bruised yet wanting more.

    Lunar Strain

In the metal world, In Flames has served as a bridge between the death metal/black metal underground and the more melodic power metal of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Queensrÿche. Originally released in Europe in 1994, In Flames' debut album, Lunar Strain, attracted an interesting mixture of death metal/black metal, power metal, and thrash metal enthusiasts. Like the early releases of At the Gates, Lunar Strain helped write the book on what came to be known as melodic death metal -- an approach that combines death metal elements (extreme vocals, blastbeats) with the type of intricacy, musicality, and craftsmanship one expects from old-school masters like Dio, Maiden, Priest, and Black Sabbath. Most death metal favors brutality for the sake of brutality, but Lunar Strain does not govern by brute force alone and is -- by power metal standards -- much more accessible than the albums that extreme bands like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Carcass were coming out with at the time. In 1994, the best was yet to come for In Flames; even so, this was a promising debut that had a major impact on melodic death metal and symphonic black metal.

Time passes, the world changes, but some things remain constant and unassailable. Heavy metal has endured for more than four decades because its spirit is eternal, and few bands embody the intensity, integrity and lofty artistic ambitions of the genre with more dazzling aplomb than Arch Enemy. Formed in Sweden in the mid-90s by former Carcass/Carnage guitarist Michael Amott, this most explosive and proficient of modern metal bands have spent the last 20 years propagating an unerring creed of technical excellence, songwriting genius and thunderous, irresistible live performance, accruing a huge global fan base along the way. And now, in 2017, Arch Enemy are ready to rise again and climb ever further up the ladder toward pure metal supremacy.

Always focused but impervious to other's rules and expectations, Arch Enemy evolved once more in 2015 following the departure of Angela Gossow (now the band's manager). Replacing one of the most iconic vocalists of the modern age was never going to be easy, but in the shape of former The Agonist frontwoman Alissa White-Gluz, Arch Enemy found the perfect candidate. Unveiled on the ferocious, anthem-laden triumph of 2014's War Eternal, Alissa's powerful identity and extraordinary vocal talents proved a natural and instantly welcomed fit. Further extensive touring cemented the new line-up's thrilling efficacy, before one final line-up change - the arrival of legendary guitarist Jeff Loomis, formerly of Nevermore - completed the musical puzzle that Amott had been tinkering with for the best part of 20 years.

Recorded in 2017, the tenth Arch Enemy album will be unleashed later in 2017 and promises to be the ultimate statement of heavy metal supremacy from a band that are still growing in stature as the years fall away. Will To Power will be the first album the band have recorded with their current line-up and as Michael Amott explains, diehard fans will be both thrilled to hear their favourite band on top form and somewhat surprised by their latest creative explorations.

"The goal is always to raise the bar yet again and create an epic masterpiece!" he laughs. "I think the album has a great balance between traditional Arch Enemy and some new influences that come through here and there. The most surprising thing on this album is that we've written our first ever ballad. It's still a very metal song, but there's no way around the fact that it is a ballad and that might be quite controversial for a band like us, I guess. I'm excited to hear what our fans will think of that one, but I do feel that we can afford to spread our wings a bit on our tenth studio album!"

Once Will To Power hits the streets, Arch Enemy will do what they do best, hitting the road and taking their latest batch of heroic metal anthems to the people. Achieving longevity is the toughest challenge that faces any band, but Arch Enemy have long since established themselves as a permanent fixture on the global metal scene and as standard bearers for upholding and celebrating of the heavy metal code. Right now, in 2017, no other band embodies the spirit of the genre with such flair and euphoric zeal. Long may their steel spirit prevail.

"It's always been about creating the best songs we can make and whatever success we've had is a direct result of the music speaking to people and our relentless worldwide touring," Michael grins. "We are happy with the fact that the band has had growth spurt these last couple of years and it's exciting to put on a bigger and more complete live show for our fans. We obviously hope our fans will enjoy Will To Power and we're looking forward to getting back out there and performing live again, with a whole bunch of killer new tunes up our sleeve!"

I'm excited to hear what our fans will think of that one, but I do feel that we can afford to spread our wings a bit on our tenth studio album!

It's always been about creating the best songs we can make and whatever success we've had is a direct result of the music speaking to people and our relentless worldwide touring, Michael grins. We are happy with the fact that the band has had growth spurt these last couple of years and it's exciting to put on a bigger and more complete live show for our fans. We obviously hope our fans will enjoy Will To Power and we're looking forward to getting back out there and performing live again, with a whole bunch of killer new tunes up our sleeve!

The goal is always to raise the bar yet again and create an epic masterpiece! he laughs. I think the album has a great balance between traditional Arch Enemy and some new influences that come through here and there. The most surprising thing on this album is that we've written our first ever ballad. It's still a very metal song, but there's no way around the fact that it is a ballad and that might be quite controversial for a band like us, I guess. Dactylis Glomerata (Out of Stock)

Candlemass were formed by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984. Well known for their epic doom metal, they have hugely influenced a generation of the genre's subsequent greats from My Dying Bride to Paradise Lost - Candlemass themselves taking a large influence from Black Sabbath.

Dactylis Glomerata' was a come-back album of sorts, originally released in 1998, after the band had temporarily been laid to rest after the 'Chapter VI' album.

'Dactylis...' was an album of more stripped down dirty doom with some solid songwriting on display, evoking what some described as a strong stoner vibe, along with some hard rock elements. This was in contrast to the more epic heavy metal inspired compositions from previous albums, which the band were more known for. Having stood the test of time incredibly well, 'Dactylis Glomerata' is a gem in the band's rich history spanning 30 years.

The album notably also features guitars by Michael Amott of Arch Enemy (ex Carcass), and also a guest appearance by Ian Haugland from Europe.
