    Was It Just A Dream?

Talulah Gosh were an Indiepop group from Oxford
and one of the leading bands of the twee pop/C86 scene, their name came from the headline of an NME interview with Clare Grogan.

They formed when Amelia Fletcher and Elizabeth Price, both wearing Pastels badges, met at a club in Oxford. Formed in 1986, their original line-up
comprised Amelia Fletcher (vocals, guitar), her
younger brother Mathew Fletcher (drums), Peter
Momtchiloff (lead guitar), Rob Pursey (bass) and
Elizabeth Price (vocals). Rob left early on, to be
replaced by Chris Scott. Elizabeth left in 1987 to be replaced by Eithne Farry. They called it a day in late 1988 with Amelia, Mathew and Peter reappearing
    soon after as Heavenly.

Music Go Music make pop music. What kind of pop music? Fader magazine put it best when they said, They begin with a bright-eyed Scandinavian sashay and end with a ten-minute Mediterranean disco romp featuring programmed drums, making detours along the way into rainy day ballads and guitar infernos. The cumulative effect plays like the greatest hits of dance saviors that never existedand indeed, they probably should only be performed from inside an aquadome at the bottom of the Caspian Sea, or at least during a summer-long residency in Ibiza. Indeed.

    Eat Their Own

Known for his work with Soft Black, New Jersey's Vincent Cacchione aka Caged Animals, has created a highly personal, wistfully nostalgic world that basks in the golden glow of love both new (Lips That Turn the Light To Fire) and old (Teflon Heart) in the haze of regret (This Summer I'll Make It Up To You) and the blur of days gone by. Taken collectively, these are songs which gather resonance with every listen and poignancy with every play, lending increasing depth and profundity towards the fleeting moments in life which we only wish could linger a little more.

Caged Animals is a wired world, but simultaneously an innocent version of darker concepts, mixing lyric and melody to create the sweetest sensation. It's a world inhabited by Raymond Carver vignettes and exhibitions of raw Neil Rough portraiture or Robert Frank's The Americans and it could be sound tracked by The Elephant 6 collective playing Dion covers, Sun Ra's future-jazz moogs and grooves, no wave's awkward DNA or Captain Beefheart at his most playful.

Edinburgh indie-pop group, the Shop Assistants, formed in 1984 and released this, their one and only full length album in 1986. "'Adult Diversion' is a whimsical dream jam and brings "feel-good" to
a staggering high." - Consequence of Sound

"...a complete collision of everything we already love: singalong
    lyrics, a guitar-driven backbone, and a sun-drenched vibe..."

"Alvvays make wistful, jangly, Brit-tinged indiepop."
    -Brooklyn Vegan

"...somewhere between the sun-drenched shores of California and
    the preppy Scottish countryside."

Alvvays are two women, three men, a crate of C-86 tapes and a
love of jingle-jangle. Molly Rankin and Kerri MacLellan grew up
as next-door neighbours in Cape Breton, lifting fiddles and folk-songs. Heartbreaks of different shades soon entered their lives, as
did the music of Teenage Fanclub and Belle & Sebastian. Similar
noisy melancholy drifted over to Prince Edward Island, finding
Alec O'Hanley, Brian Murphy and Philip MacIsaac.

Convening in Toronto, the group have been making music since
since dusk or maybe dawn, when stars were appearing or fading
off. As a result, their debut self-titled album is both sun-splashed
and twilit -- nine songs concealing drunkenness, defeat and death
in tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass.

With needlepoint melody and verse, Rankin and O'Hanley's songs
were recorded at Chad VanGaalen's Yoko Eno studio and mixed
by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and John Agnello (Sonic Youth,
Dinosaur Jr., kurt Vile). The resultant album is loud and clear and
    sure. Flood your ears.

    Weird Sister

We're excited to announce the release of the debut album by thrilling Cardiff-based noisepop five-piece Joanna Gruesome. Brimming with irresistible pop melodies and spiked with dissonant fuzzy jangle, their songs are shot through with loud discordant feedback and super-fast, hardcore punk drumbeats. Kicking it against sexism and homophobia, nothing is off-limits, drawing inspiration from DIY scenes such as Riot Grrrl/noisepop/C86/K Records as well as post hardcore like Drive Like Jehu/Converge and the art rock of The Velvet Underground, Swirlies and My Bloody Valentine.

Joanna Gruesome comprise Alanna on vocals, Owen on guitar, Max on bass, George on guitar and Dave on drums. Most of the album was written during a month long stay in a seedy west Brighton hotel called The Hell House and recorded under the guidance of producer MJ of the much lauded Hookworms. Awash with nods to mental illness and the dark recesses of the mind, the record is littered with references to the devil or zombies and allusions to comic books.
Take first single "Secret Surprise," in which mental illness takes a physical form and is fought using razor blades. Or Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers, which is about stealing a scooter and driving it into the ocean when you should be in school LEARNING. Or Sugarcrush, about spending a summer burning knitwear. Slotting in with contemporaries like Swearin' and Speedy Ortiz, Joanna Gruesome offer a staggeringly diverse album, unexpectedly quiet and surprisingly loud.

"Abrasion, anger, attitude. One guitarist is in the audience, but this isn't too much of a stretch. There are slower parts where the musicians take a second to breath. There are noisier bits where the musicians take a second to reflect. There are thumpy bits where the musicians take a second to dance and enjoy themselves. Everyone's smiling. Everyone's hugging themselves. What a glorious mess of a noise to be a part of. What a glorious sense of community." - Everett True, Collapse Board
