    When Disaster Strikes

By the time Busta Rhymes hit with his second solo album, "When Disaster Strikes", he was already
cemented as one of the most powerful voices in the rap game. With a lead single that countered that statement "Put Your Hands Where MY Eyes Can See" he proved he is more than just a one act man. The single was an immediate smash and was followed by an equally amazing album. The albums second single "Dangerous"
continued to push Busta creatively and was accompanied with a stellar video gained him major air play on BET and MTV.

Critics and fans alike applauded this release for its depth and well-crafted songs which made it platinum at the
time of its release. Songs like "Turn UP" the Flipmode assisted We Could Take it Outside and "Rhymes Galore" showcase Busta at his best; rapid fire delivery over hard pounding beats. Other stand out cuts include
So Hardcore and "One" which is a great collaboration with Erykah Badu. On the production side Busta brings
along his trusted team; Rashad Smith, Dilla, Rockwilder and DJ Scratch to serve him just what he needed for
"When Disaster Strikes" to be full on dope!

    Hi-Teknology 2: The Chip

    Red Colored Vinyl

After years of anticipation, super producer/emcee Hi-Tek presents his sophomore release Hi- Teknology Vol. 2. Hi-Tek first jumped on the radar with the huge success and critical acclaim of his collaboration with Talib Kweli and Mos Def on 1998's Black Star album. The accolades continued with the release of the equally classic Train of Thought, in which Hi-Tek and long time partner Talib Kweli reunited as Reflection Eternal. Building off his rapidly growing notoriety, Tek cemented his status as an accomplished (and commercially viable) producer/emcee with the release of his solo debut, Hi- Teknology, in 2001. Between 2001's Hi-Teknology & the forthcoming Hi-Teknology Vol. 2, Hi-Tek has produced a catalog of hits for a ''who's who'' of hip-hop's finest. His track record speaks for itself, having amassed pro- duction credits for the likes of 50 Cent, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Busta Rhymes, Lloyd Banks, Common and many more. Hi-Teknology 2 features guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, The Game, Ghostface Killah, Snoop Dogg, Slim Thug, Raekwon, Tha Doggpound, Bun B., Q-Tip, Mos Def & more and is produced entirely by Hi-Tek himself. Hi-Teknology Vol. 2 is the next step in a fruitful career and another in a long line of classic releases from Hi-Tek.

    Prisoner Of Conscious

Talib Kweli's sixth solo album, Prisoner of Conscious, is due this April, and the rapper told Hive that he's made some changes for this one. "I think the most glaring difference from the albums I've released before is the number of features on it," he said via phone last week. Confirmed vocalists include Kendrick Lamar, Nelly, Busta Rhymes, Black Thought, Rah Digga and Brazilian artist Seu Jorge for the song "Favela Love," with production assists coming from the RZA, Oh No, Terrance Martin, Symbolyc One and J Cole.

Kweli said he named the album Prison of Conscious because this record isn't "overtly political and heavy-handed, which is something that I can definitely do and have done in the past, but this album is really all about dealing with life situations." He added, "I think people are going to really relate to the music."

    The W

Numbered, Limited Edition On Crystal Clear Vinyl

The W is the third studio album by the world's baddest Hip Hop group Wu-Tang Clan. Released in 2000, the album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200, and instantly topped the R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart after release. Containing the hit Gravel Pit, the album was certified Platinum a few months later.

After their 1997 album WU-TANG FOREVER and several solo projects, The W has a more rugged, less polished sound than most Wu-Tang related albums from that era. Group mastermind RZA produced The W with roughed up Soul samples and tight, tough beats. Paranoid kung fu samples and bizarre sounds drive the fantastic nightmare. The back-to-basics approach (the group's massive debut ENTER THE WU-TANG comes to mind) works so well because it puts the focus back on some of the best rappers in the game.

The album also features guest appearances from Isaac Hayes, Redman, Nas, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.

Theres one rule in hip hop music that has transcended all of the phases in its four decade history: it doesnt matter what you do, but how you do it that really counts. This fact is no secret to Kev Brown (producer for Busta Rhymes, De La Soul, etc) who eschews the obscure in favor of certified soul classics as sample fodder for this project with emcee Kaimbr, The Alexander Green Project. Taking the familiar and reappropriating it into your own formula is no straightforward task but the soul-infused production on display with this project proves that in the right hands even the most recognizable of sources can be built into a fresh and engaging aesthetic. Kev Brown has those hands. Snippets of vocals punctuate sumptuous beats that are laced with chopped up strings, horn stabs, and intricate guitar licks to form a collection unified by source but ranging from the breezy to the bangin in terms of vibe. Kaimbr adds the final piece to this musical puzzle by combining a relaxed yet confident delivery with intricate rhyme schemes that nestle themselves assuredly into the beat.

    Capital Punishment

Big Pun remains on the best rappers ever list to this day.
Reasons for this weigh largely on his debut
Capital Punishment. His commanding voice and rapid fire
delivery make it clear there will never be another Big Pun. Pun
was New York. His confidence on the mic made him stand out
among his contemporaries. Similarly, the production -- by a
cast of many - remains ever so New York loyal. The close
cousins I'm Not a Player and Still Not a Player," may have
been the hits off this album but it is packed with so many more
    that show Pun's true abilities.

"Beware" and "Dream Shatterer" are great examples of Big
Pun at his best, dark cinematic production with just enough
room to let him breathe fire. On "Twinz (Deep Cover)" Big Pun
is trading bars with his mentor Fat Joe over a remake of Dr.
Dre's classic beat. Here Pun delivers one of his most quoted
verses that contains among others "Dead in the middle of
Little Italy little did we know that we riddled some middlemen
who didn't do diddly". There are numerous guest
appearances, the best of which include afore mentioned Fat
Joe (on several tracks), the Roots' Black Thought on the MC
showcase Super Lyrical, Prodigy and Inspectah Deck on
Tres Leches (Triboro Trilogy), and an extra-insane Busta

    Slum Village, Vol. 0

The mark that the late producer J Dilla left upon hip-hop during the 90s and early-to-mid 00s is undeniable, and his work with De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, and many more has long been cemented in the annals of hip-hop history. It was during his time as a member of seminal Detroit group Slum Village however that ranks as among his greatest. His work with rappers Baatin and T3 would be a strong influence upon modern rappers like Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar and earn widespread critical praise, and comparisons to other legendary groups like A Tribe Called Quest. In speaking retrospectively on their most famous album Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1, The Roots' drummer Questlove has said of the release that it single-handedly birthed neo-soul.

J Dilla has been gone for over 10 years now, and Slum Village has moved on from their time with the legendary beatsmith, recruiting new members along the way. Despite this, new Dilla compositions are still being discovered, and his legacy continues to be shared and celebrated with a modern hip-hop audience. Ne'Astra Music Group now presents a new compilation of rare Dilla material: Vol. 0. Ten tracks featuring the classic Slum Village lineup of Dilla on vocals and production, with Baatin & T3 also on the mic, collected by modern SV member Young RJ from unreleased material and demos recorded between 1994 and 1997. The knowledgeable hip-hop head may recognize key tracks from the circulated EPHCY Sessions, while others have never seen the light of day. A piece of hip-hop history that would have otherwise wallowed in obscurity, until now.

The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads

Although most people probably think the only Talking Heads live release is Stop Making Sense, the fact is that there's an earlier, better live album called The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads. Originally released in 1982 on LP and cassette, the album chronicles the growth of the band, both stylistically and personnel-wise. The first LP is the original quartet version of the band, recorded between 1977 and 1979, performing excellent versions of tunes (mostly) off 77 and More Songs About Buildings and Food. Also included were the previously unavailable A Clean Break and Love Goes to a Building on Fire, as well as early versions of Memories Can't Wait and Air. The second LP comes from the Remain in Light tour, recorded in 1980 and 1981.

In order to present something close to the music on that album, the original quartet lineup was greatly expanded. Added were two percussionists (Steven Stanley, Jose Rossy), two backup singers (Nona Hendryx, Dollette McDonald), Busta Cherry Jones on bass, Bernie Worrell (!) on keys, and a young Adrian Belew on lead guitar. The excitement of this material is palpable, and the muscular band rips into these tunes with more power than the originals in most cases. Drugs gets revamped for live performance, and Houses in Motion kicks into high gear with a great art-funk coda. Belew is absolutely on fire throughout, especially on The Great Curve and Crosseyed and Painless, where his deranged feedback soloing has never sounded better. At this point in their career, Talking Heads were still basically an underground band; it was Burning Down the House that really thrust them into the mainstream, and Stop Making Sense documents their arrival as a more or less mainstream act. The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads captures a hungry band on its way up, performing with a fire that was never matched on later tours. Unfortunately, The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads remained unavailable on compact disc for years, which is a shame since it's arguably one of their finest releases.

    The Coming (Out Of Stock)

Busta Rhymes delivered his debut album, The Coming, three years
after the Leaders of the New School unofficially disbanded. Though
his talents were evident on those Leaders of the New School releases,
Busta went on a series of features that only built up the public's
desire for a solo Busta album. Right out the gate Busta dropped his
classic debut single "Woo Hah!!" that made it abundantly clear he
was to be mentioned among Hip Hop's greatest solo artists. The
energy and originality packed on that one song set a tone for the
album that displays Busta's raw talent and ability to bend words with
his ever rambunctious flow. Songs such as "Everything Remains
Raw", "Abandon Ship", and "Still Shining" all rise above as The
Coming's stand out tracks but it's really "ill Vibe" that is the albums
crown jewel moment. Busta sounds right at home over this J Dilla
beat trading verses with his Native Tongue cohort Q-Tip.

The Coming was a critical and commercial success for Busta
Rhymes. It reached #6 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1996 and has
since received a platinum certification from RIAA. As mentioned The
Coming boasts the hit single Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check which
reached #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1996. It was nominated
for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. It also
ended up sporting another hit single, It's a Party featuring ZhanÉ.
The Coming shows amazing variety where Busta is able to break free
from the bells and the whistles of the Busta "Dungeon Dragon" flow
to explore other ways of leaving our jaws open by his incredible
lyricism. The Coming surely lives up to its title, as Busta delivers a
performance that ignited his impeccable solo career.

Jay Dee aka King Dilla (Out Of Stock)

The mark that the late producer J Dilla left upon hip-hop during the 90s and early-to-mid 00s is undeniable. His work with De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, The Pharcyde, and of course Slum Village long been cemented his prominence in the annals of hip-hop history.

Of the many words one can use to describe J Dilla's legacy, one that's not used enough is prolific. Dilla made beats constantly. So new Dilla compositions are still being discovered. One of the places where those works are still being unearthed is the archives of the Ne'Astra Music Group, who proudly present here 8 Dilla tracks previously unissued on vinyl.

Dilla's legacy continues to be shared and celebrated by today's hip-hop audience - with help from the tireless efforts of Ne'Astra.
