The Best Of Burlesque And Striptease Music

Girls! Girls! Girls!: The Best Of Burlesque And Striptease Music is a comprehensive remastered 15-song collection of vintage burlesque and striptease music, including Bumps and Grinds and The Stripper among others.

This album is dedicated to the vanishing art of burlesque. It is a tribute to that branch of showbiz that launched the careers of many of the 20th Century's greatest comedy stars. In their heyday burlesque theaters dotted the country from coast to coast, like Minsky's in New York, the Old Howard Theater in Boston, The Globe in Atlantic City and Jimmy's in Los Angeles.

Of course, the strippers were also an essential part of the burlesque experience. Now, Great American invites all you swingers to step back in time, and relive the memories, the laughter and the pleasure of a visit to a burlesque club.

Here you have 15-tracks of the best striptease music. The names of the musicians have been lost over time, but the fantastic performances still remain. Limited edition vinyl remastered for the ultimate quality sound and featuring evocative new cover art!

    Empire Burlesque

    180 Gram Vinyl

Empire Burlesque is the 23rd studio album by Bob Dylan, released in 1985. Dylan produced the album himself, and eventually the album peaked at number thirty-three in the US and at number eleven in the UK.

Accompanied by multiple session musicians-including Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers members Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench and Howie Epstein-the album features a distinct 80s style aesthetic. Fans and critics continue to debate the album's merits, especially when compared to his 1960s and 1970s output.

This may very well be the most consistent record Bob Dylan has made since Blood on the Tracks, filled to the brim with subtle gems. Highlights of the album include Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?), Emotionally Yours and Dark Eyes.

    Man In Space With Sounds

Sound, sustain, and silence unite, polyrhythmic Hammond organs and xylophones round off a cosmic eruption! Created for the 1962 World's Fair, this album bundles beautifully textured space sounds with period-perfect narration. Take the Gayway to a surplus of recognizable moments lifted for modern-day samples!

Man In Space With Sounds is a commemorative album of 12 tracks dedicated to the Seattle World's Fair. Envisioned and conducted by Attilio "Art" Mineo, this unearthly album was released in 1959, but its roots go as far back as 1951 when Mineo carved out many of the uncannily clandestine melodies. They're an inebriated burlesque of circus organs, tipsily galloping bongo beats and electronic hydrazine expectorations that enclose the listener. In anticipation of the World's Fair, Attilio mined these pieces from his archive and paired them with out-of-this-world narration to guide your journey. This narration is a milky way of recognizable sound bites that have been sampled by the best.

    Live In NYC

LIVE IN NYC encapsulates the true essence of Jane's Addiction in concert, mixing music with performance art. With the band as the ringleaders, they take you, along with a diverse cast of vagabonds, through an extravagant world of flying burlesque dancers, trapeze artists and carnival sideshow antics, offering stunning visuals enhanced with a visual masterpiece of lasers, capturing the incredible mood of this spectacular night. Amidst it all, Jane's Addiction, featuring frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney, gives astonishing performances of one classic after another including their 1988 Top 10 hit Jane Says, and live staples such as Whores and Up The Beach, and crushing versions of Ocean Size and Mountain Song.

Jane's Addiction keeps the visual delights coming as they continue through their vast repertoire of hits and fan favorites, including Been Caught Stealing and Stop!, both No. 1 singles on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, Ain't No Right, Three Days, and Just Because, which went to No. 1 on the Modern Rock Tracks and No. 4 on Mainstream Rock chart. LIVE IN NYC also features the debut live performance of their latest single, Irresistible Force (Met The Immovable Object), from The Great Escape Artist.

Jane's Addiction's unconventional and unique style could not be contained in one single category or format. They created the blueprint for what would be labeled Alternative Rock and kicked open the doors for generations of modern rock bands. And as the years have passed, Jane's Addiction continues to keep pace in a modern culture that the band has helped to expand and progress.

    Stravinsky: Les Noces (Speakers Corner)

Although ten years separate the gigantic composition Le Sacre du Printemps and the dance cantata Les Noces, the more recent work has several things in common with its scandalous predecessor. Originally Stravinsky planned to use a vast orchestra of 150 musicians, but decided after numerous attempts to settle for four pianos, percussion, voices and mixed chorus.

Concealed behind the innocuous title is not a peasant wedding but once again an archaic ritual, »which takes possession of several of the central figures, drives them on and eventually crushes them with its unrelenting movement« (AndrÉ Boucourechliev, Igor Stravinski, Fayard 1982). Ballet, rhythmic dance through and through, fuses with Russian melodic song and thereby exudes a folkloristic exoticism.

Rarely performed yet zestful and a sheer delight for the ears is the burlesque tale Renard, a musical fable about Reynard the crafty Fox, the Cock, the Cat, and the Ram.
Stravinsky himself conducted this recording made with a grand line-up of America's top composers at the piano keyboard - Samuel Barber, Lukas Foss, Aaron Copland and Roger Sessions. One certainly can't ask for more authenticity on record than these contemporary witnesses.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Prokofiev: Symphony No. 5 (Speakers Corner)

Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5 is one of just a handful of traditional Russian works that have advanced to become a celebrated repertoire piece in the area of conflict between socialist artistic realism and conservative modernism. Although, in contrast to his colleague Shostakovich, Prokofiev toed the party line and was highly privileged, which made it very difficult to believe his later claim that his art was free of politics, his music has touched the hearts of concertgoers all over the world.

In the present recording, the cosmopolitan Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic present the whole beauty of the melodies that unfold in the first movement with full orchestral radiance. Cheerfulness as a »hymn to free and happy Man« is given voice in the clarinet theme of the burlesque second movement with its imaginative changes. Reminiscences of the Symphonie classique appear to be intentional. In the finale, Prokofiev proves himself to be a confident master of the classical-romantic canon form, which uses the theme of the first movement and new motifs to create far more than just a melodious apotheosis. Jagged, sharp and percussive final bars round off this supreme orchestral firework, which makes great demands on every single musician.sound of America.

    Stravinsky - Petruchka (Speakers Corner)

Petrushka was born of Stravinsky's vision of a long-haired musician hammering indiscriminately at the piano keys and engaging in a furious contest with the orchestra which »answers with vehement protests and acoustic fisticuffs«. As was the case with The Rite of Spring and The Firebird, Sergei Diaghilev and his Russian ballet had their share in ensuring that the 'burlesque' in four scenes would be suitable for the stage.
The clown-doll Petrushka revels in his spiteful teasing and pranks at the Shrovetide fair.

The orchestra contributes swirling dance figures, blaring brass and scurrying strings to his high-spirited clownery - but then the Moor enters and dances with the Ballerina, arousing jealousy in Petrushka. Although the clown-doll does not survive this bitter-sweet story, he triumphs at the end, his ghost mocking the crowd at the fair.
This highly inventive music combines folksong, popular music and the waltz, all bound together by exhilating rhythms which are often taken to thunderous extremes. With its outstanding sound, this recording is a must-have in any Stravinsky collection.

"The best album of the year hands down" (R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, 1993)

Grant Lee Buffalo is an Americana/indie Rock band based in Los Angeles, consisting of Grant Lee Phillips (vocals and guitar), Paul Kimble (bass) and Joey Peters (drums). All three were previously members of another Los Angeles band, Shiva Burlesque. They toured with major bands, including R.E.M., Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins and The Cranberries.

Their 1993 debut Fuzzy was a condent and solidly crafted piece of work, with Phillips' marvelous voice, ne and evocative songs. Fuzzy is deep and mysterious stuff, but also very beautiful and crafted with imagination and care. It's no wonder Grant Lee Buffalo became critic's darlings shortly after this was released. Original vinyl copies are in short supply, making this rst reissue ever a very welcome one!

The Songs Of Bob Dylan, Vol. 1 (Pre-Order)

On Songs of Bob Dylan, Joan Osborne unleashes her sizable gifts as a vocalist and interpreter upon The Bard's celebrated canon. With performances honed by the time Osborne spent polishing them during Joan Osborne Sings The Songs Of Bob Dylan - two critically acclaimed two-week residencies she performed at New York City's CafÉ Carlyle in March 2016 and 2017, the seven-time Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum-selling singer and songwriter, whom The New York Times has called a fiercely intelligent, no-nonsense singer, winds her supple, soulful voice around Dylan's poetic, evocative lyrics, etching gleaming new facets in them along the way.

The album spans Dylan's beloved standards from the '60s and '70s (Masters of War, Highway 61 Revisited, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, Buckets of Rain,Tangled Up In Blue) to some of Osborne's favorites from his later albums, including Dark Eyes (from 1985's Empire Burlesque), Ring Them Bells (from 1989's Oh Mercy), Tryin' To Get To Heaven (from 1997's Time Out of Mind), and High Water (from 2001's Love and Theft). His versions are legendary and I'm not trying to improve on them, Osborne says. I'm just trying to sing beautiful songs and let people hear them. It's about trying to give a different shade of meaning to something that's already great.

Prokofiev - Romeo & Juliet Suites 1 and 2 (Speakers Corner)

As is widely known, ballet suites are the 'little sisters' of large ballet compositions that have been compiled by the composer mostly at a later date for performance in the concert hall. Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet is another story however. Strangely enough, his two Suites were given their first performance before the premiere of the complete Ballet. The applause can still be heard echoing through the world of music. This music is one of the pillars of a good record collection - and with good reason! Both Suites contain a wealth of delightful melodies that are given substance by colourful harmonic writing. Just how Prokofiev can ideally sound is brought to us by Stanislaw Skrowacziewski and the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. In the first Suite he lets his musicians sweep with Élan through the Burlesque, the splendour of the Love Theme is full of lyrical intensity, and rises to a forceful climax filled with sharp dissonances in Death of Tybalt.

The Second Suite, too, is of the very highest standard, both from an artistic and recording point of view. The characteristic themes and motifs are well contoured and brought to the fore while embedded in a fresh and natural carpet of sound which is sometimes filled with immense warmth.
It is clearly noticeable that all participants have given much time and thought to this first-rate production. And the listener will certainly enjoy giving over a good portion of his leisure time to this delightful music.
