    Red Dirt Girl

Emmylou Harris's first Nonesuch recording, Red Dirt Girl, was originally released in September 2000, and won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album of the year. It was her first solo studio recording since 1995's Wrecking Ball. The album was produced by Malcolm Burn, who previously worked with Harris engineering and mixing Wrecking Ball, and features Buddy Miller on lead guitar; Daryl Johnson on bass and drums; Malcolm Burn on piano, guitar, and bass; and Ethan Johns on drums, guitar, and other miscellaneous instruments. Harris wrote all but one of Red Dirt Girl's 12 tracks, marking only the second time in her career that she has been so involved in the composition of an album. Dave Matthews sings a duet with Harris on the album, and Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa, and Patty Griffin also contribute vocals.

For the past 30 years, Lucinda Williams has channeled her perspective as a proud but vulnerable Southern female into a string of stellar albums, each of which weave Rock, Country, Folk and Blues so tightly that each of the elements seems to disappear. Lucinda Williams (1988) was her breakthrough disc, but her magnum opus, 1998's Car Wheels On A Gravel Road, sealed her reputation as a formidable singer-songwriter.

It took three torturous years to finish this alt-country masterwork, but it was worth it. Williams writes songs that explore the rootlessness of American life, with vivid imagery and gravel-guitar beauty. The album features guest appearances by Steve Earl, Emmylou Harris and Buddy Miller. Williams co-produced the album and it was mixed by Rick Rubin & Jim Scott except Metal Firecracker, which was mixed by Ray Kennedy.

The album won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and was Lucinda Williams' first album to go Gold. It was voted Best Album of the Year in the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics poll. In 2003, the album was ranked number 304 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

    Written In Chalk

Buddy and Julie Miller have been writing and making music together since they first me and married over 20 years ago. Whether the end result was a Buddy record or a Julie record, they couldn't help but collaborate and influence eachother's work. New West is now releasing their latest effort, Written In Chalk, a true collaboration. The musical synergy this couple has with each other is clear on the record and is rounded out with a thoughtful, country-soul vibe, emotional lyrics, outstanding musicianship and of course, Buddy's extraordinary guitar playing. Guests on the record include Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Regina and Ann McCrary and Larry Campbell. Written In Chalk was recorded at the couple's home studio in Nashville, TN.

    Cayamo Sessions At Sea

Between busy touring schedules and time spent
creating and recording songs, artists rarely get the
opportunity to spend time with other musicians they
admire and respect. Occasionally, they bump into
each other in hotel lobbies, backstage dressing rooms,
or airport terminals; usually no more than a hurried
conversation passes, perhaps a quick meal together,
a wave and a nod then everyone is off to the next gig.
Ships that pass in the night.

For one week each year, this changes. Musicians and
music fans board a cruise ship together, escape the
winter cold, and sail away for a musical adventure
    called Cayamo. Once-in-a-lifetime collaborations begin
the minute the ship leaves port. From bow to stern,
port to starboard, on top deck and down below, around
every corner and in every venue you'll find musicians
who might never otherwise have a chance to meet
teaming up to play old favorite tunes or even create
    new ones.

In 2012, Cayamo veteran Buddy Miller decided to try
to capture a few of these special moments. He brought
along some recording gear and set up a studio in the
ship's library where he and co-host Jim Lauderdale
recorded episodes for their SiriusXM Outlaw Country
Buddy & Jim Radio Show. Their debut episode with
    Lucinda Williams was recorded there.

Buddy thought the radio show recordings sounded
really good so, in 2014, he brought more gear, an
engineer and some great musicians. Sixthman let him
take over the Bliss Lounge where he set up a temporary
recording studio between the lanes of the bowling
alley. For two days and nights, guest artists came to
record and fans came to watch. It was so much fun,
they did it all again in 2015.

For those fortunate enough to have experienced
Cayamo, these tracks might bring back fond memories.
For those yet to sail, consider these recordings a vacation
postcard from Buddy Miller and his talented friends and
a musical snapshot of their journey through song.

    Live In Germany 2000

In this 2000 concert Emmylou Harris combined tasteful choices from her early repertoire with newer work, often her owncompositions, backed by the band she called Spyboy, which featured the hard-working guitarist and singer Buddy Miller. When Emmylou Harris arrived as a country radio artist in the mid 1970s, she had an immediate and intense impact on a movement toward greater authenticity in country that also included artists like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.

Nelson and Jennings came out of the Nashville industry and were breaking new ground in that industry, changing their looks and sounds to accommodate social and musical changes of the 1960s that much of Nashville country had explicitly opposed. Harris, however, came from outside, an emissary to commercial country from the 1960s folk and rock toward which Nashville mavericks were already leaning. With her dark, natural, hippie-ish beauty, her ethereally powerful soprano, and her fascination with the grittier roots of country music,Harris broke molds established for both women
and new artists in Nashville country.

Exploring the similar roots and psychedelic elements he did on 2007's six-time Grammy-winning Raising Sand, his collaboration with Alison Krauss, Robert Plant returns with the even more engaging and curious Band of Joy. Recorded in Nashville with a stellar cast of musicians, the scintillating album of covers and originals was co-produced by Plant and former Emmylou Harris lead guitarist Buddy Miller. You don't want to miss this one, replete with incredible atmospherics and textures that come to life in astounding 3D fashion on this analog pressing.

Everything about Band of Joy connects the past with the present. In 1967, Plant had also formed a group called the Band of Joy, with drummer John Bonham. The rest is history, as Bonham, Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, and bassist John Paul Jones assembled to become The New Yardbirds and, ultimately, Led Zeppelin. Since that time, Plant has put his wide-ranging musical fascination to good use on solo albums and in recordings with bands like The Honeydrippers, Priory of Brion, and Strange Sensation. His performances have reflected his embrace of West Coast psychedelic rock, roots blues, African music, and traditional folk. Plant continued to expand his horizons with 2007s Raising Sand, a collaboration with Krauss.

Co-producing with Miller, Plant washes the 12-song set in rich, salty baths of texture, timbre, tone, and atmosphere. Sonics, feel, and space play as much a part of the experience as the arrangements. The psychedelia-treated roots material here is more thrilling than the cosmic country and gypsy soul that peppered 2007s Raising Sand.

Going Down To The River (Pre-Order)

It's just not your typical Music City Story.... A frequent homeless, 62 year old singer-songwriter guitarist gets discovered at a Nashville food pantry by a Swedish country music star, who helps him from the streets to superstardom in a country best known for Abba's Dancing Queen and the likes.Doug Seegers' debut solo album entitled Going Down to the River on Rounder Records is raw, rootsy and emotionally charged. A brilliant 62-year-old singer who struggled with homelessness for years, Seegers found acclaim when Swedish music star Jill Johnson discovered him in a Nashville food pantry. The two subsequently recorded a duet that climbed to the top of the music charts in Sweden.

When I first heard Doug Seegers' voice, so full of soul and raw emotion, I was stunned. This man has lived these songs, not in his imagination but every long day over many hard years. He stands before you now - ready to testify. Listen and believe. - Emmylou Harris

Part Hank Williams, part Hank Snow, part Gram Parsons . . .his music is more real than anything you're gonna hear . . .Close your eyes and you will be transported, not to the past; he's not an imitation - it is a soul-portation. - Buddy Miller

"There's a road that goes out of every town. All you've got to do is
get on it," Pete Bernhard says.

The Devil Makes Three's travels and travails serve as inspiration for their
fourth album and their New West Records debut, I'm a Stranger Here,
produced by Buddy Miller and recorded at Dan Auerbach's (Black Keys)
Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville.

With upright bassist Lucia Turino and guitarist Cooper McBean, guitarist/
singer Pete Bernhard crafted a dozen tunes, part road songs, part
heartbreak songs and part barnburners. While most bands are propelled
from behind by a drummer, TDM3 builds exuberant rhythms from the
inside out, wrapping finger-picked strings and upsurging harmonies
around chugging acoustic guitar and bass, playing an ever-growing
audience onto its feet to jump, shake and waltz.
