    Blues Singer (Pre-Order) (On Sale)

Pressed On 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl

    Housed In A Gatefold Sleeve

Grammy Award 2004 Winner In The Category 'Best Traditional Blues Album'

The album is all acoustic and dedicated to John Lee Hooker with the line, "In Memory of John Lee Hooker. You are missed."

Not known for his acoustic work, Buddy Guy unplugs for a rare album-length excursion into folk blues. The guitarist gets down and dirty with 12 tracks that sound like they were recorded after hours in his living room or on his back porch.

Guy's stinging leads are still evident as is his emotive voice, but both are less flamboyant in the unplugged setting. Accompanied by spare stand-up bass and brushed drums, Guy sounds nearly possessed on covers from Skip James ("Hard Time Killing Floor"), Johnny Shines ("Moanin' and Groanin'"), Son House ("Louise McGhee"), and John Lee Hooker ("Sally Mae") among others. It's a low-key, low-down affair made for late nights, rainy days, and the saddest of moods.

Guy is just as convincing here--arguably more so--as on his barnstorming electric albums, making Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalogue.

The album earned Guy the 2004 Grammy Award for 'Best Traditional Blues Album'.

    The Blues Giant (Pure Pleasure)

Buddy Guy is arguably the most distinctive, electrifying guitarist in Blues history. On a good night, there is no player in the world who can match him. But for all of Guy's talent, unfortunately there are few studio recordings that document his genius. Producers have always wanted him either to sound old-fashioned (i.e., the '50s Chess Chicago Blues sound) or too modern (i.e., some abberation of Jimi or Clapton).

Buddy was only produced properly one time: and the result is this album. After several mediocre albums in the '60s and '70s, someone finally let Buddy play in the studio with the creative, reckless abandon that, when playing live, has ignited every building in which he has ever played. This IS Buddy Guy!

    Musicians:

    • Buddy Guy (guitar, vocal)

    • Phil Guy (guitar)

    • J. Williams (bass)

    • Ray Allison (drums)

Recording: October 1979 at Condorcet Studio, Toulouse (France) by Francois Porterie

    Production: Didier Tricard

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Skin Deep

Buddy Guy's new album, Skin Deep is his 10th Silvertone/Zomba studio release and it features all original material as well as collaborations with fellow guitar luminaries Eric Clapton, Robert Randolph, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

Elaborating on his inspiration for the album title and song Skin Deep, Guy touches upon a powerful series of personal memories and observations on the ways in which were all the same underneath it all. I used to play with this boy, ride horses, down close to where I was born, he says. Then when we were 13, his parents made us stop. They used to say you had black blood or white blood, but wed get a flashlight and hold it up to our skin and wed just see red blood. Thats what I mean by 'Skin Deep.'

In a career spanning more than 45 years, Buddy Guy continues to add to his ever-growing legacy. At the age of 72, he graced the cover of Rolling Stone, as part of the magazines recent '100 Greatest Guitar Songs' issue (his cataclysmic 1961 recording of Stone Crazy made the list) and he also turned in a show-stopping performance in Martin Scorseses Rolling Stones concert film, Shine A Light. Guy has won five Grammy Awards, 23 W.C. Handy 'wards (the most any one blues artist has received), a Congressional Medal of Arts and Billboard Magazine's prestigious The Century Award for 'distinguished artistic achievement. In 2005 Buddy Guy was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by friends Eric Clapton and B.B. King.

Six-time Grammy Award winner and 2012 Kennedy Center Honoree Buddy Guy releases his studio album, Rhythm & Blues, on RCA Records. The Rhythm disc includes rhythm and blues-style blues with deep grooves, such as the Junior Wells' 1960 hit "Messin With The Kid" featuring Kid Rock, the touching "One Day Away" with Keith Urban, and "What You're Gonna Do About Me," a rousing duet with Beth Hart. Guy rounds out the disc with "Best In Town," "Whiskey Ghost," Guitar Slim's "Well I Done Got Over It" and more.

The Blues disc taps into the genre's rich history with "Meet Me In Chicago," "I Could Die Happy," "Never Gonna Change" and "All That Makes Me Happy Is The Blues." Aerosmith's Tyler, Perry and Whitford contribute to the musical lesson with "Evil Twin" while Gary Clark, Jr. joins Guy on "Blues Don't Care."

    Live At Legends

Live at Legends features Guy's last live recordings from his now-shuttered original Legends blues club in Chicago, captured during his January residency there in 2010. The album features a number of Buddy Guy live favorites including two amazing medleys: John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom into Cream's Strange Brew; and Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child into Cream's Sunshine of Your Love. In addition to the live recordings, Live at Legends includes 3 previously unreleased studio recordings from Guy s critically acclaimed Living Proof album sessions: Polka Dot Love, Coming For You, and Country Boy.

The recipient of over 30 awards and accolades, Guy was recently selected to receive this year's Kennedy Center Honors alongside Dustin Hoffman, David Letterman, Natalia Makarova and Led Zeppelin. The 35th annual ceremony will be televised on December 26th at 9:00 PM on CBS.

    Hoodoo Man Blues

One of the all-time great urban blues records and the best-seller in the famed Delmark catalog. Hoodoo Man Blues is so full of bravado and snap it'll make you feel tough just listening to it. Not all of the Delmark titles were recorded very well, but this one certainly was. And at 45 RPM, this now stands as the undisputed definitive version. Hoodoo Man Blues, which features Buddy Guy on guitar, is not only Junior Wells' first LP appearance, it's damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45s by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc., but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of the limitations of juke box/airplay promotion. Hoodoo Man Blues went a long way in the popularization of real Chicago blues and of Junior Wells.

Remastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original Analog Master Tapes

Plating And 200-Gram Vinyl Pressing By Quality Record Pressings

Old-style Tip-on Gatefold Jacket From Stoughton Printing

One of rock's greatest albums, this is the debut album by the Crickets and the only one featuring Buddy Holly released during his lifetime. The Chirping Crickets contains the group's number one single That'll Be the Day and its Top Ten hit Oh, Boy!. Other Crickets classics include Not Fade Away, Maybe Baby, and I'm Looking for Someone to Love.

These are among the best rock 'n' roll songs of the 1950s or ever, making this one of the most significant album debuts in rock 'n' roll history - ranking with Elvis Presley and Meet the Beatles, writes AllMusic.

What has Analogue Productions done to kick this classic album up a notch? For starters, our version features stellar remastering by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. Followed by state-of-the-art plating and pressing on 200-gram heavyweight vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs. Stoughton Printing provides a sturdy old-style tip-on jacket to round out the package.

Born Charles Hardin Holley on September 7, 1936, in Lubbock, Texas, Holly was nicknamed Buddy by his mother. She felt that his given name was too big for her little boy. Holly, the altered form of his last name, would later result from a misspelling in his first recording contract. Holly learned to play piano and fiddle at an early age, while his older brothers taught him the basics of guitar.

In early 1956, Holly and his band began recording demos and singles in Nashville under the name Buddy Holly and the Three Tunes, but the group's lineup was later revised and dubbed The Crickets. Holly wrote and recorded his breakthrough hit, That'll Be the Day, with The Crickets in 1957. The song's title and refrain are a reference to a line uttered by John Wayne in the 1956 film The Searchers. Between August 1957 and August 1958, Holly and the Crickets charted seven different Top 40 singles.

Composer and singer John Fogerty, of Creedence Clearwater Revival fame, inducted Buddy Holly into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at the 1986 Hall of Fame induction ceremony. What Buddy Holly meant to him, Fogerty said, was destiny calling. Fogerty, 12, bought That'll Be The Day and soon began dreaming of forming his own combo, like the group of musicians - The Crickets - he saw on the album cover. And in Liverpool, England, the same thing was going on with four other guys. They named their group The Beatles, because Buddy Holly's group was called The Crickets.

We are, each of us, made up of the people we love and the people we admire, Fogerty, said. We take those reflections, and hopefully, grow.

Holly's talented life was cut short in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, that also claimed the lives of Ritchie Valens and J.P. The Big Bopper Richardson. This album is a tribute to what was, and what might have been a lengthy pioneering musical career.

    I Am The Blues

Chicago Bluesman Willie Dixon was perhaps best known for his songwriting. He wrote or co-wrote over 500 songs and his songs have been recorded by some of the best-known blues musicians of his era, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter, and Buddy Guy.

Later, his songs were popularized by groups, such as The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Cream, and Led Zeppelin, whose Whole Lotta Love was loosely based don Dixon´s You Need Love. On this 1970 LP, the quintessential blues songwriter performs his own tunes - every one a classic: I'm Your Hoochie Coochie Man, The Little Red Rooster, Spoonful and of course Back Door Man to name a few!

Long overdue, the album was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1986, whereas Willie Dixon was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Going Back To Acoustic (Pure Pleasure)

Originally issued in France on Isabel Records 900.510 under the title "Going Back" this LP presents one of the best duos in the history of the blues, guitarist Buddy Guy and harmonica player Junior Wells. Over the years they made many recordings together but this one is unique. Recorded whilst on a 1981 tour of Europe, Guy and Wells took a break from their backing musicians and amps to cut this spontaneous, all acoustic set. The results stand in stark contrast to the steamy Chicago blues the duo is best known for. Instead these recordings are relaxed and personal, with an intimate, back porch feel. Guy switches between six and twelve string guitars, and lays down rootsy acoustic rhythms for Wells's tasteful harmonica lines. The two share vocal duties on the performances as they pay homage to the rural, country blues roots these modern bluesmen share.

    Musicians:

    • Buddy Guy (guitar, vocal)

    • Junior Wells (harmonica, vocal)

Recording: May 1981 at Sysmo Studio, Paris

    Live Alive

Live Alive, originally released in 1986, is an essential Blues double album compiled from four live performances by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. The performances were recorded in 1985 at the Montreux Jazz Festival (July 16), the Austin Opera House (July 17 + 18) and at Dallas Starfest (July 19). The amazing live record is filled with gems from SRV's first three albums, plus a great rendition of Willie The Wimp featuring his brother Jimmy (who also makes a guest appearance on Love Struck Baby, Look At Little Sister and Change It).

The track listing for Live Alive displays several of Stevie Ray Vaughan's biggest influences: Jimi Hendrix (Voodoo Child (Slight Return)), Stevie Wonder (Superstition), Howlin' Wolf (Commit A Crime) and Buddy Guy (Mary Had a Little Lamb).

    Keep It Simple

Available On Vinyl For The First Time

Keep It Simple (2004) is the seventh studio album by blues artist Keb' Mo'. The album won a Grammy in 2005 for best contemporary Blues album, and features Robben Ford, Robert Cray, Vince Gill a.o.

Keb' Mo' crafted a warm, wry, Blues-informed version of Pop Americana that wrestles with contemporary problems like how to pay the mortgage, the high price of coffee, or how to afford a vacation. This is the first ever vinyl release of this great album!

Over the past two decades Keb' Mo' (born Kevin Moore) has cultivated a reputation as a modern master of American roots music through his live and studio performances. His songs have been recorded by the likes of B.B. King, Buddy Guy, the Dixie Chicks, Joe Cocker and Robert Palmer.

And he's no stranger to acting. His acting career began in the early '90s, and in 1998 Keb' Mo' portrayed Robert Johnson in the documentary Can't You Hear the Wind Howl. Other acting jobs include his role as the ghostly bluesman Possum in the 2007 movie Honeydripper. But Keb stresses that his focus will always be on making music and being a communicator, a songwriter.

    The Haden Triplets

Third Man Records is proud to present the debut album from The Haden Triplets. These are songs steeped in history and sung in a close harmony
that could only be achieved from sharing a lifetime of sisterly togetherness and a near psychic vocal interplay that can only come from being born mere
seconds apart from each other. It's been rendered and produced beautifully by American music legend Ry Cooder.

This is an album expanding on an American musical tradition. It is not pastiche or a tribute, but rather a direct antecedent and extension of the original folk legacy that is being exhibited within these songs.

Here's a little more about it in the Haden's own words.

During our early life, we were surrounded by music on both sides of our family. We visited our dad's family in Missouri, where they taught us old country songs they used to perform on the radio as The Haden Family. Our grandparents on our mother's side used to sing us to sleep with old Yiddish songs. Growing up, we often had music playing in the house, whether it be our mom playing Billie Holiday and Nina Simone records, or our dad playing Keith Jarrett and Ornette Coleman in the living room.

We met Ry when we played with his son Joachim, and Joachim asked him if he'd sit in for our show. Once Ry heard we were singing "Voice From On High" by Bill Monroe, he was in right away. The next day we got a call from Ry suggesting we record an album. We wrote down a collection of songs we all liked, then narrowed it down to the music that became the Haden Triplets album. These songs are rich in history, and by recording them we hope to help keep them alive. - Tanya, Rachel & Petra Haden

Beginning his career at age 3, Quinn, who is currently a high school student, has shared the stage with Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Los Lobos, The Roots, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi and Joe Bonamassa, and also opened for B.B. Live At The Checkerboard Lounge 1981

    White & Black Vinyl

On 22 November 1981, in the middle of their mammoth American tour, the Rolling Stones arrived in Chicago prior to playing 3 nights at the Rosemont Horizon. Long influenced by the Chicago blues, the band paid a visit to Muddy Waters' club the Checkerboard Lounge to see the legendary bluesman perform. It didn't take long before Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Ian Stewart were joining in on stage and later Buddy Guy and Lefty Dizz also played their part. It was a unique occasion that was fortunately captured on camera. Now, restored from the original footage and with sound mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain, this amazing blues night is being made available in an official release for the first time.

    The Super Super Blues Band

Limited Edition Pressing On Light Orange Opaque Vinyl

Super Super Blues Band starter out merely as Super Blues, a conglomerate of blues pillars Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Little Walter. When Little Walter bowed out and was replaced by Howlin' Wolf, they rightfully threw another Super on the name, and went on to release this burning, irreverent and even sometimes hilarious set of drunken, wild-eyed electric blues. Long form jams roll on in a trance as the trio of blues legends flex egos, talking shit to each other, trading off leads and ducking blasts of unexpected wah-wah guitar lines. Songs are peppered with an incredible level of banter between the trio of bandleaders that predicts the call and response sing-talking of early hip hop, laced with random screams in the background that teeter between celebration and danger.

That these three ever got into the same room together is a miracle, and that they produced something so intense, energetic and weird is another almost unbelievable feat. The record is special enough as a stand-alone document of this meeting/melting of the minds before you find out the backing band consists of Hubert Sumlin, Otis Spann, and freaking Buddy Guy. Lordy. Might have needed one more Super in there.
