    Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway

Barbra Streisand has no doubt left her mark on the entertainment industry rather it be musical, on the set of a movie production or on Broadway. She's had a career that has lasted for half a century and she's still not done at the age of 74. Streisand will release the new Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway in 2016.

Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway caters to her Broadway and Hollywood contributions and pairs Streisand with some of Hollywood's biggest stars such as Anne Hathaway, Daisy Ridley, Antonio Banderas, Hugh Jackman, Jamie Foxx and more to sing classic Broadway songs on the album.

Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway is Streisand's 35th studio album. Having a career that began in the early 60s on Broadway, Streisand is the only artist to have a No. 1 album in each of the last six decades, also making her one of the most successful artists in history.

    Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

Hamilton - which transferred to Broadway following a sold-out run at The Public Theater in NYC - is the acclaimed new musical about the scrappy young immigrant Alexander Hamilton, the $10 Founding Father who forever changed America with his revolutionary ideas and actions. During his life cut too short, he served as George Washington's chief aide, was the first Treasury Secretary of the United States, a loving husband and father, despised by his fellow Founding Fathers, and shot to death by Aaron Burr in a legendary duel.

The Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording) is executive produced by Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Tariq Black Thought Trotter, founding members of the Grammy Award winning hip-hop band, The Roots. HAMILTON has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin Manuel Miranda, who also plays the title role. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton.

Revival Of Musical Is Currently Playing On Broadway At The Broadway Theatre

Based on Sholom Aleichem's stories about a poor milkman in late 19th century Russia, and the five daughters for whom he seeks significant weddings, this great musical, which opened at the Imperial Theatre on September 22, 1964, benefited from the portrayal of Zero Mostel as Tevye, and Jerome Robbins' splendid choreography in Boris Aronson's sets inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall. In the profuse score created by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, If I Were A Rich Man stands out as the anthem of everyone looking for a better life. Before she became Mame's bosom buddy and a television Golden Girl, Bea Arthur played Yente, the matchmaker; and Maria Karnilova traded her stripper's outfit in Gypsy for the torn dress worn by Golde, Tevye's long-suffering and silent wife. Others who shone in the cast included Julia Migenes as Hodel; Bert Convy as Perchik, the student; Austin Pendleton, as Motel, the tailor; and Leonard Frey, as Mendel, the rabbi's son. Even though several actors (Herschel Bernardi, Luther Adler, Harry Goz, among others) played the milkman during the show's long run of 3,242 performances, Mostel's portrayal remains its supreme incarnation.

    Funny Girl

After countless alterations, a revolving door of writers and directors (which included Jerome Robbins, Bob Fosse, Sidney Lumet, and Garson Kanin), crazed tryouts, and an opening night that was delayed five times, Funny Girl turned out to be an unadulterated smash--and it still sounds great this much further on. Composer Jule Styne, at the peak of his brassy powers, custom-fitted the show to its star, Barbra Streisand, and she ran away with it. Streisand's delivery of People still sends a chill down the spine, and she completely radiates with the life-force of someone who's a star and knows it. Funny Girl is a delirious, larger-than-life Broadway epic that projects showstopping energy but never loses track of its characters' humanity. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

    Zombies On Broadway

I wrote this album in the middle of a whirlwind, when the future was unclear. Isn't it always? I found my way to the city, thinking I could settle a score with a ghost. You can't, so I came home and rewrote the ending. I'm proud announce my new album, "Zombies on Broadway." I spent more than a year hoping to find new answers to old questions. What I found; I have always been two people; One in search of peace and the other in search of whatever makes my hair stand up and my heart beat faster. This record is mostly about the latter.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording)

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, produced by Jason Howland and Steve Sidwell with Kurt Deutsch serving as executive producer, was recorded Feb. 17.

The musical's score comprises songs Carole King penned with Gerry Goffin as well as tunes Barry Mann wrote with Cynthia Weil.

Based on King's life and music, Beautiful had its world premiere earlier this season at San Francisco's Curran Theatre. The Broadway production began previews Nov. 21, 2013, prior to an official opening Jan. 12 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing produce the musical that features a book by Academy Award nominee Douglas McGrath, who collaborated with Woody Allen on the screenplay for Bullets Over Broadway. He also penned Infamous and Emma.

Marc Bruni (Pipe Dream, Ordinary Days, Old Jews Telling Jokes) stages the production with choreography by Josh Prince and musical direction by Jason Howland.

Tony Award nominee Mueller (Mystery of Edwin Drood, On a Clear Day, Nice Work If You Can Get It) stars as King. Appearing as her musical collaborators are Jake Epstein (Degrassi, Spider-Man) as Gerry Goffin, Anika Larsen (Xanadu, Avenue Q) as Cynthia Weil and Jarrod Spector (Jersey Boys) as Barry Mann. Principal casting also includes Jeb Brown as producer/publisher Don Kirshner and Liz Larsen as King's mother, Genie Klein.

The ensemble features Ashley Blanchet, E. Clayton Cornelious, Joshua Davis, Alysha Deslorieux, Kevin Duda, James Harkness, Carly Hughes, Sara King, Rebecca LaChance, Douglas Lyons, Chris Peluso, Gabrielle Reid, Rashidra Scott, Sara Sheperd, Yasmeen Sulieman, Daniel Torres, Melvin Tunstall and Alan Wiggins.

The complete creative team includes Derek McLane (set design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), Brian Ronan (sound design), Charles G. LaPointe (wig and hair design), Steve Sidwell (orchestrations and music arrangements), Jason Howland (music supervision) and John Miller (music coordination).

Here's how the creators bill the musical: Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock 'n' roll. But it wasn't until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

Beautiful is produced by Paul Blake, Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Jeffrey A. Sine, Richard A. Smith, Mike Bosner, Harriet N. Leve/Elaine Krauss, Terry Schnuck, Orin Wolf, Patty Baker/Good Productions, Roger Faxon, Larry Magid, Kit Seidel, Lawrence S. Toppall, Fakston Productions/Mary Solomon, William Court Cohen, John Gore, BarLor Productions, Matthew C. Blank, Tim Hogue, Joel Hyatt, Marianne Mills, Michael J. Moritz, Jr., StylesFour Productions, Brunish/Trinchero, and Jeremiah J. Harris.

A Chorus Line is the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical conceived, choreographed and directed by Michael Bennett, with book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas Dante, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and lyrics by Edward Kleban. Michael Bennett's 1975 valentine to gypsies, the dancers who are often treated as so much mobile scenery in Broadway musicals, is sometimes considered to have broken new ground with its frank portraits of talented but frustrated performers. Kinky Boots - Original Broadway Cast Recording

Inspired by a true story and based on the Miramax motion picture written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth, Kinky Boots, features a warm and witty book by four-time Tony® Award winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage, Torch Song Trilogy, Hairspray, Newsies) and a richly diverse musical score from Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper, in her stunning theatrical debut. The production is directed and choreographed by Tony® Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, La Cage, Broadway Bares).

In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price (Tony® Award nominee Stark Sands - American Idiot, Journey's End) has suddenly inherited his father's shoe factory, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. Trying to live up to his father's legacy and save his family business, Charlie finds inspiration in the form of Lola (Billy Porter Dreamgirls, Grease). A fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos, Lola turns out to be the one person who can help Charlie become the man he's meant to be. As they work to turn the factory around, this unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible... and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.

Incontestably one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time, My Fair Lady, which opened at the Mark Hellinger on March 15, 1956 and enjoyed a long run of 2,717 performances, set the standards for its perfect integration of the songs and the plot in a smooth amalgamation of music and drama. The work of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, who adapted George Bernard Shaw's whimsical tale of Pygmalion to the musical stage, it starred a non-singing actor, Rex Harrison, another first, and Julie Andrews in her first major role on Broadway. When its producer, Herman Levin, sought to raise the money needed to bring the expensive show to New York, he found in Columbia Records President Goddard Lieberson a tolerant patron of the arts who, single-handedly, provided the $375,000 capitalization, in exchange for the rights in perpetuity to the original cast album. That recording, along with its companion volume in stereo, cut two years later, has always been one of the biggest sellers in the Columbia catalog.

    New York Tendaberry (Pure Pleasure)

Dirt and grit, sweetness and sorrow, this is New York Tendaberry, Laura Nyro's masterpiece. This tapestry of great beauty and painful images is not for the pop-oriented crowd who only are familiar with the aurally digestible versions of Save the Country and Time and Love sung by other people. Laura herself had a voice both comforting and full of despair, and both those songs are woven into this complex journey. I always imagine it as twenty-four hours in the life of this street-wise, New Yorker, where she is both observer and subject. She wakens as her man leaves (You Don't Love Me When I Cry), yanks us by the hand to follow her down to the subway to sing joyful harmonies which echo and blend to the sound of trains (Mercy on Broadway), and then to Gibsom Street. If you are soft, then you will shiver, they hang the alley cats on Gibsom Street. Finally, in the languid, deep night, a brief celebration from her terrace as firecrackers break, dust, and skate. But the reality of her world takes over as she gazes below on humanity which joins for life through silver tears (New York Tendaberry).

Listen to the final song, New York Tendaberry. Laura Nyro's incredible vocals and imagery are of this time, now. It was of that time, and will be forever treasured by those who love and be willing to listen to this exceptional artist.

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Pressed And Plated At RTI On 180-Gram Vinyl

Housed In A Stoughton Old Style "Tip-On" Jacket

Winner Of Ten Tony Awards Including Best Musical As Well As The Pulitzer Prize

For their fourth work together, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II wrote one of the great musicals in Broadway's history, South Pacific. The musical opened on April 7, 1949 at the Majestic Theatre, and enjoyed one of the longest runs on Broadway up to that time (1,925 performances); it deservedly won the Pulitzer Prize, along with a plethora of Tony Awards®. Upon its release, the original Broadway cast recording became the longest running number one record in history. The legendary recording features Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza, was produced by Goddard Lieberson and recorded at the historic Columbia 30th Street studios. Interestingly, the album was released at a time when record formats were evolving. South Pacific, as a result, became responsible more than any other single recording for converting the record buying public over to the new 12" LP format.

This is the first vinyl reissue of this album cut from the original mono tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound, pressed and plated at RTI on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a Stoughton old style "tip-on" jacket.

    This Is Acting

This Is Acting is the seventh studio album by Australian singer-songwriter, Sia, following up last year's #1 charting, critically-acclaimed, and gold-certified album, 1000 Forms Of Fear.

"Alive," the album's first single was written by Sia, Adele and Tobias Jesso, Jr. and was produced by Jesse Shatkin, who also co-wrote and co-produced Sia's massive four-time Grammy nominated "Chandelier.

An astonishingly creative and uncompromising performer, Sia is also a highly prolific hit maker and songwriter, having penned several hit singles over the last few years for others. She has crafted songs for pop icons including Rihanna ("Diamonds"), Katy Perry ("Double Rainbow"), Britney Spears ("Perfume"), Kelly Clarkson ("Invincible"), Carly Rae Jepsen (Making the Most of the Night), BeyoncÉ ("Pretty Hurts") and Celine Dion ("Love Me Back To Life"), and many more. Sia has also been the featured vocalist on some of the most massive hits she has written for others including "Titanium" with David Guetta, "Beautiful Pain" with Eminem, and "Wild Ones" with Flo Rida. Additionally, Sia was nominated for a Golden Globe last year for the song "Opportunity" from the 2014 adaptation of the Broadway musical "Annie."

    Take The Kids Off Broadway

Foxygen is the young bi-coastal songwriting duo of vocalist Sam France of Washington state and guitarist/keyboardist Jonathan Rado of New York. They are the raw, de-Wes Andersonization of The Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvets, Bowie, etc. that a whole mess of young people desperately need. At the same time, they pull a very Anderson-type move wherein they paint an impressionistic and hyper-real (and instantly recognizable) portrait of specific places and times, and blurring the lines between time and place.

Yet, it never comes across as anything but absolutely modern music. They bring the freewheeling qualities of someone like Ariel Pink to those aforementioned influences to make for one of the most refreshing listens of the year. They are the real deal and total savants. Jagjaguwar is proud to introduce you to Foxygen and their bedroom masterpiece Take the Kids Off Broadway mixed by Richard Swift. The album is an intriguing, bedroom-recorded prelude to their Swift-produced full-length planned for late 2012.

Much has been written about West Side Story, which began as a transmogrification of Romeo and Juliet as a feud between the Jews and Gentiles living on the East side in modern-day New York, only to morph into a confrontation between two street gangs, one American the other Puerto Rican, on the upper West side of the city. Initially, Leonard Bernstein, its composer, was to have written both music and lyrics, but Stephen Sondheim was eventually brought in to handle the latter. With Arthur Laurents contributing the book, and Jerome Robbins devising the staging, the show opened to great acclaim on September 26, 1957 at the Winter Garden, where it played 732 performances, and was subsequently revived several times on Broadway and around the country. But it was the film version, made three years later with Natalie Wood as Maria, that ensured its popularity worldwide. Though there are many recorded versions of the percussive score available, the original cast album, with its fresh, spontaneous performances, remains the standard by which all others are measured.

If/Then: A New Musical - Original Broadway Cast Recording

From the creators of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical Next to Normal, If/Then stars Tony Award-winner Idina Menzel

Straight from starring in the Oscar-winning movie, Frozen, and performing the blockbuster hit song, Let It Go at the Academy Awards, Idina Menzel returns to Broadway for the first time since winning the Tony Award for Wicked in the new musical If/Then. The production reunites Tom Kitt (music), Brian Yorkey (book and lyrics), and Michael Greif (director), the creative team behind the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning musical, Next to Normal.

If/Then is a contemporary new musical that follows Elizabeth (Menzel) as she rebuilds her life in New York, a city of endless possibilities, set at the intersection of choice and chance where the road you take meets the road you didn't. The Original Broadway Cast Recording stars Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa from the mega-hit movie Frozen, who won the Tony Award for Best Actress for Wicked and was also in the original cast of Rent. If/Then reunites Menzel with her former Rent cast-mate Anthony Rapp and also features Tony Award-winner LaChanze (The Color Purple), James Snyder (Cry-Baby) and Jerry Dixon (tick, tick...Boom!, Once On This Island).

    Scars On Broadway

Scars on Broadway, the collaboration between guitarist-frontman Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan of the multi-Platium-selling, Grammy-winning System of a Down, is set to release their self-titled debut on Interscope Records. Different from the chaotic/alt/metal sound of SOAD, Scars on Broadway's material is more song oriented and showcases Malakian's varied writing style. From the simmering rock sound of World Long Gone to the melodic yet desolate Universe and the 1970's punk fashion of They Say, Malakian and Dolmayan are as provocative and powerful as ever and its clear they mean business with Scars on Broadway.

Big Band And Quartet In Concert (Speakers Corner)

Thelonious Monk could walk from his flat to New York's famous Philharmonic Hall on the corner of 64th Street and Broadway when he made his very first appearance there with his Big Band in December 1963. And the other musicians could get there on the underground: Phil Woods, Steve Lacy, Thad Jones - all of them were members of Monk's closest circle of collaborators. It is no wonder then that the well-known themes were highly agreeable and harmonious. I Mean You, Four In One and Epistrophy resounded through the auditorium, the audience was thrilled, Thelonious laughed and danced and a short while later fans could listen to parts of the concert on a recording released by Columbia Records. In a break for a smoke, Monk sat himself down at the piano and played Darkness On The Delta - nocturnal atmosphere pure.

Does it bear the patina of times long past? Absolutely not! Thelonious Monk is as red-hot as he ever was.
