    Furr

Furr is the fourth record by Portland sextet Blitzen Trapper and the follow-up to last year's highly acclaimed Wild Mountain Nation. Written in the gaps of the group's frenetic touring schedule and recorded mostly in an old telegraph building close to the Willamette River, the new record refines and expands on the far-ranging yet distinctive songcraft that lies at the heart of Blitzen Trapper's unique appeal. Critics and fans have compared their music to just about everything, so much that they're almost in a genre all their own. Furr is their first Sub Pop release.

Dead Man's Town: A Tribute To Springsteen's Born In The U.S.A.

2014 marks the 30th anniversary of Bruce Springsteen's 'Born In The U.S.A.'
Although it would become his biggest selling album with seven top 10 singles
on the Billboard Hot 100, Luther Dickinson of North Mississippi Allstars
says "any of those songs could be played with acoustic guitar alone and
still be great." Taking this idea as its premise, 'Dead Man's Town: A Tribute to
Born in the U.S.A' strips the album's twelve indelible originals to the core, with
contributions from Jason Isbell & Amanda Shires, Low, Nicole Atkins, Justin
Townes Earle, Blitzen Trapper, Joe Pug, Trampled by Turtles, and more. Rolling Stone premiered Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires' Dave Cobb-produced
cover of "Born In The U.S.A," saying these artists are "reimagining 'Born in
the U.S.A.'... with a reduced approach more influenced by that of the acoustic
    'Nebraska.

Isbell says of his cover, ""Born In The U.S.A." is one of my favorites
because so many people have seemingly misunderstood the lyrical content
and the song's overall tone. When you listen to the demo, the dark, minor key
arrangement makes it clear that this is not strictly a song of celebration.
We wanted to stay true to that version." Amanda Shires adds, "I love that
the song paints a picture of struggle in the face of the American dream, and
the irony in the chorus is delivered with such force that it nearly
    transcends irony altogether."

    All Across This Land

In a lengthy essay regarding the concept and construction of All Across This Land, the official Blitzen Trapper site compared the album to earlier albums like Furr and American Goldwing: [All Across This Land] is a top-down, tightly defined piece of classic rock and roll, full of big riffs, bigger hooks and compelling, instantly relatable lyrics ... 'I think it's a return to the sort of more classic Blitzen Trapper thing, for sure,' [songwriter Eric] Earley says.

    Live At Third Man Records

Under the stewardship of Sub Pop and Vagrant records, Oregon's Blitzen Trapper is 8 studio albums deep into the a successful career as a modern folk-rock band, led by Eric Earley, dubbed by Paste as the ''Tom Petty of the Northwest.'' Earley's songs read like stories you could've sworn you've heard before, and his band's straightforward and every-so-slightly anthemic landscapes make for nearly universal likability - a real feat in these days of niche tastes and fragmented genres. Blitzen Trapper brought their (quite welcome!) Pacific Northwestern sensibilities, along with swampy and distinctly Floridian opener Lauris Vidal to whet our collective whistle, to the Blue Room Stage on March 16, 2016. The live record that resulted, was cut direct-to-acetate on Third Man's 1955 Scully lathe.

    American Goldwing

American Goldwing is Sub Pops third full-length release with Portland, OR's Blitzen Trapper and the bands sixth full-length overall. On American Goldwing, Blitzen Trapper let their loves and influences; hard guitar rock, country picking and pawn-shop Casio aplomb, hang out for all to see.

The album is also the bands first foray into direct, outside influence in the creation of a record, with mixing by Tchad Blake and co-production by Gregg Williams. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Eric Earley says American Goldwing will make you want to shotgun a beer in the shower while listening to the Stones or Joe Walsh (well, or Blitzen Trapper) and we are not inclined to argue.

    VII

Americana stalwarts Blitzen Trapper's seventh studio album is appropriately titled VII. Their first release for Vagrant Records is full of the vivid folk-rock-campfire-tales front-man Eric Earley is so well known for.

VII moves effortlessly from track to track allowing Earley to paint the colorful pictures that play in our head while singing along. there are those songs I keep writing over and over again, Ever Loved Once with all its regrets and tragic lost love, Don't Be A Stranger it's hopeful cousin but they all still point to the same worn out place in the heart of old E. Earley. And hey, we all have that place, that worn spot on the heart like the chew canister circle on the back pocket of blue jeans, or that one shred in the green felt of the table where you ground the stick in too hard May these songs minster in ways mysterious and eternal, or at least maybe make you shake a hip.

    Wild And Reckless (Pre-Order)

Earlier this year, the Portland, Oregon-based Blitzen Trapper accomplished a unique feat for a rock band who has been releasing albums and touring for the better part of two decades: a staged musical titled Wild & Reckless that ran for 28 performances at Portland Center Stage. Today, the band is announcing a new album of the same title that was born from the stage production and as a companion to their 2008 breakthrough album Furr.

'Rebel' is a song about a guy who for the love of a girl follows in his father's footsteps only to find it to be a scam, explains principal and frontman Eric Earley. After several tries at the American dream he ends up selling cocaine to blue bloods in the Hollywood hills. Something of a lost Raymond Carver story with shambling near-country soundtrack.

The album Wild & Reckless was born from the stage production that the band spent the better part of a year producing. The half musical, half rock-opera dealt with heroin abuse, desperation, true love and western power structures. The story evoked a bygone era of Portland with this sci-fi love story, featuring a rock-and-roll score that paired unreleased songs with favorites from the band's catalog.

Following the success of the production, the band took 7 original songs from the production and developed the theme further into the 12 songs that comprise the new album Wild & Reckless.

Frontman Eric Earley also sees the record as a companion and extention of their 2008 album Furr. Wild and Reckless is something like a cross-eyed stepchild to Furr, in that it chronicles the darker dystopian stories of rural and suburban west coast death-drive via a riffing psychedelic landscape. Ten years after Furr with all its talk of murder and the end of the western world, it seems there's more to tell.

Blitzen Trapper is Eric Earley (songwriter/singer), Erik Menteer (guitar, keyboard), Brian Adrian Koch (drums, vocals), Michael Van Pelt (bass) and Marty Marquis (keyboard, vocals). Wild & Reckless was produced by Eric Earley and Michael Van Pelt and was recorded by Gregg Williams at The Trench, in Portland, Oregon. It was mixed by James Brown (Foo Fighters, Kings Of Leon, Blitzen Trapper's All Across This Land) at The Union.
