    Nightingales & Bombers (Awaiting Repress)

The album that was Manfred Mann's commercial breakthrough was a departure from the previous albums made with the Earth Band. Though the personnel are the same and the musicianship is as mind-blowing as ever, the songs are shorter and punchier, in some cases more poppy. This is not to say that the band had sacrificed a bit of ingenuity or complexity, but the long jams are gone in favor of briefer sound portraits. Nightingales and Bombers included Manfred Mann's first cover of a Bruce Springsteen song, the album-opening Spirits in the Night, a single that charted, and became one of the only pieces written in 10/4 time ever to do so. It would prove to be an important move in their recording career, as 1976's Roaring Silence earned them a big hit with Springsteen's Blinded by the Light. Another foreshadowing of that tune can be detected in the track Fat Nelly, which includes a synthesizer part almost identical to the intro of the aforementioned hit. Also featured in Nightingales and Bombers are such synth-driven rockers as Crossfade, Countdown, and the title track, in which Manfred Mann appear to be trying to capture the prog rock crown. Nightingales and Bombers featured in almost every Best of the Year list for 1975.

Late in 1976, Manfred Mann's Earth Band toured the States with a new line-up that had Chris Thompson (Guitar/Vocals) and Dave Flett (Lead Guitar) replacing Mick Rogers. The album that followed the tour was a worldwide hit with large thanks due to the success of their version of the Springsteen song, Blinded By The Light. Other highlights include Singing The Dolphin Through and its super Barbara Thompson sax solo fade.

Later...When The TV Turns To Static

'Later When The TV Turns To Static' is the third studio album by Glasvegas and is the next stunning chapter from one of the UK's most unique bands. A ten track, 45 minute sojourn of heartfelt melancholia, broken relationships, a scorching soundscape that lifts the soul into heights of abandoned euphoria. Glasvegas have come home, turned their eyes from the blinding light back into the shadows, where reality lies. Self produced by lead vocalist and songwriter James Allan the album contains the singles 'I'd Rather Be Dead (Than Be With You)' and 'If'.

    Abandon

Got Pitchfork Rising and was named one of the best
artists of 2013 by Spin Magazine.

Margaret Chardiet was born and raised in New York City She has been making
power electronics/death industrial music under the name Pharmakon for five
years. As a founding member of the Red Light District collective in Far Rockaway,
ny she has been a figurehead in the underground experimental scene since the age
of Seventeen. She points out that the environment there amongst so many other
experimental artists (amongst them Yellow Tears & Haflings) inspired her to keep
making increasingly challenging work. She describes her drive to make noise music
as something akin to an exorcism where she is able to express, her "deep-seated
need/drive/urge/possession to reach other people and make them FEEL something
[specifically] in uncomfortable/confrontational ways." Engineered by Sean Ragon
of Cult of Youth at his self-built recording studio Heaven Street, Abandon is
Pharmakon's first proper studio album and also her first widely distributed release.

Unlike other experimental projects, Pharmakon does not improvise when performing or recording. She is concise and exact; each song/movement is linear with a
clear trajectory. Perhaps more than any other style of music, noise is a genre almost
exclusively dominated by male performers. Spin Magazine is apt to point out that
her, "perfectionism might explain why her recordings are few and far between-
a rarity in a scene where noise bros want to puke out hour after endless hour of
stoned basement jams into a limitless stream of limited-edition tapes. Her music
may be as cuddly as a trepanning drill, but it's also just as precise: She glowers in
measured silence as often as she shrieks, and every serrated tone cuts straight to the
bone, a carefully calibrated interplay between frequency and resistance." The songs
on this album were all written and recorded during a turbulent three month time
period during which several fundamental life changes forced her to begin living in
a completely new way and in a new space. She describes the lyrical themes of this
album as being about, "Loss. Losing everything. Relinquishing control. Complete
psychic abandon. Blind leaps of faith into the fire, walking out unscathed. Crawling
    out of the pit.

    Scorpion Child

    Black Double-LP in Gatefold

Includes Bonus Track and Poster. Side D: Etched!

Hooks: a musical idea or short riff, passage, or phrase that catches the ear of the listener. Some bands have 'em, most don't. Austin-based five-piece SCORPION CHILD have 'em in spades. Whether it's an extended blues jam or a short slice of bombastic heavy rock "The Child" lay a hook so tasty everyone bites. SCORPION CHILD come from lots of different places, not only logistically but musically. Their sound heralds back to early 70's kraut and psych-rock with a modern twist and lists PENTAGRAM, HAIRY CHAPTER and LUCIFER'S FRIEND as influences. They originally formed in 2006 and have spent the last few years perfecting both their songwriting and stage presence. Aryn Jonathan Black fronts the outfit with a siren-like voice reminiscent of a young Robert Plant. Guitarists Christopher Jay Cowart and Tom Frank layer high-energy twin-guitars over the band's driving rhythm section fueled by Shaun Avants (bass) and Shawn Alvear (drums). "Our influences are diversified as classic 80's thrash metal to the old school southern blues of Blind Willie Johnson, Lemon Jefferson and Willie McTell," says Black. "We came to Austin to form a band with a single vision and though we've played in different bands with a range of styles, after jamming together, we found our footing in what we do best." Balancing full-time jobs at coffee shops and bars around town forced the group to be very disciplined. "Austin's a great city to develop and hone your skills musically," admits Black. "Every genre can be found here from blues and jazz to punk and hardcore." In 2010, after years of slogging it out in the Austin scene, SCORPION CHILD gained peer recognition with critical praise from local and regional press while selling out high profile gigs at SXSW. The stage was set for the band's recording debut. After songwriting sessions in Nashville, the band spent last year recording their self-titled album with Grammy-nominated producer Chris "Frenchie" Smith known for his work with THE ANSWER, JET, AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD, DAX RIGGS, and many others). The result is a hybrid of nine, hook-filled heavy-psych classics that breathe new life into a stale hard rock market. Their music erupts with big drums, thunderous guitar riffs and dangerous soul ridden bass lines. Black's powerful rock vocals convey a sexiness and swagger not heard since the days of FREE and HUMBLE PIE. A surge of electricity bursts from the first notes of "Kings Highway" to the pummeling drive of "The Secret Spot" and the highly addictive open-chord "Liquor". Built for the big stage is "Salvation Slave" which hearkens back to a time when guitar rock ruled the airwaves and made going to a concert the ultimate main event. Building on dynamic tension comes the acid-infused "Antioch", a progressive number with hypnotic beats and subtle shades of light that build into a blinding guitar duet. A galloping pulse distinguishes "In The Arms of Ecstasy" as a celebration of groove that is followed by the raw unchained riffage of "Paradigm". The album concludes with the slow building "Red Blood (The River Flows)" which continues to attract comparisons to LED ZEPPELIN. "We do have this whole acoustic side that sounds very ZEPPELIN III with a lot of gospel", says Black. "ZEPPELIN were very innovative and not afraid to go outside the usual confines of electric blues. I guess that's where the comparison comes from." Recently signed to legendary metal label Nuclear Blast the band has pulled "Polygon of Eyes" as their lead single. A nod to DIO-era RAINBOW, the song is four minutes of power-heavy rock plowing through an ancient storyline of swords and mystics. Says Black, "I've always wanted to hear new musical ingredients within a classic heavy sound. We want to maintain spontaneity while putting special emphasis into integral hooks." As vinyl continues to gain momentum, SCORPION CHILD with Nuclear Blast have plans to release their debut in June 2013 as a glorious gatefold edition with different colored vinyl in each pressing. Building up to the debut release was a large-scale tour with CLUTCH and UK's ORANGE GOBLIN the perfect event to introduce SCORPION CHILD to the masses. Several summer festivals are to follow including Rock The Range and Rocklahoma. The band join an elite few including THE SWORD, GRAVEYARD, WOLFMOTHER and RIVAL SONS who celebrate a warm Marshall and liquid feedback while still pushing boundarie

    Cast The First Stone

    Pressed On Camo Green Vinyl

Death metal is more than just music. It transcends such a limited mortal state of mind. Death metal is the aural expression of humanity's darkest side, of devastation, sorrow and the harbingers of mankind's own inhumanity and ultimate destruction. Death metal is not a trend, a fashion parade or a means to an end. It is much more than that. It is a way of life. A life in death.

This is the doctrine Italy's HOUR OF PENANCE, spewn forth with unrelenting musical ferocity through their sickening, mind-obliterating auditory assault on the senses.

Forged in the dark shadows of "The Holy Capital," this most unholy of quartets have steadily been making a name for themselves as one of the most intense, talented and impressive modern death metal bands both in-studio and onstage.

Like clockworks Hour of Penance is ready to release "Cast the First Stone" as the follow-up of his last successful album Regicide. Releasing an album every 2 years, the band has been described by the fans and worldwide press as one of the most "productive" band in the genre, "Cast the First Stone" will mark album number 7 in the band's career .

Singer Paolo Pieri describes the concept of the new album : "Cast the First stone" revolves around the idea that the injustices suffered during the Crusades and Colonialism cannot justify indefinitely a chain of hate that propagandize the destruction of the West. I believe that the political situation in recent years has brought to light again a millennial conflict between West and East, and events like the terrorist attack at the Bataclan, where we only played a few months before the massacre, have influenced the lyrics on this record very much.

It does not matter who has thrown the first stone, but who first evolved his ideology to seek peace and coexistence instead of war to the bitter end. In Europe, people have massacred each other for millennia but in the last 60 years, we were able to overcome differences and secular hatred that divided us, while the blind hatred of Islamic extremism is bringing entire geographic areas back to the darkest middle ages.

We find ourselves once again in front of a war between reason and religion, and unless we take a strong stand in defense of our Western values, we risk falling into chaos because of a weak and coward enemy stubbornly convinced of his senseless laws."

Lead guitarist and songwriter, Giulio Moschini, adds : "Sonically speaking , this is the best sounding album we've ever recorded , we really worked hard on this, listening to the album countless times before finally delivering the masters to Prosthetic Records.. it was definitely worth the wait and we're 100% satisfied by the great work our bass player Marco Mastrobuono has done behind the mixing desk. We've literally spent weeks trying different micing techniques, hardware, preamps- trying to avoid plugins technologies as much as we could. We wanted our album to sound more dynamic and I think that we've achieved that 100%. "

Since releasing 2012's acclaimed "Sedition", which Decibel lauded as a "hyper-blasting, inhuman, machine-like attack," HOUR OF PENANCE has annihilated fans worldwide with its fiery exuberance, playing well over 200 gigs alongside such acts as BEHEMOTH, SKELETONWITCH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, DEVILDRIVER, PSYCROPTIC, MISERY INDEX, DEICIDE, BELPHEGOR, NILE and KRISIUN.

    Marigolden

"The body remembers what the mind forgets," Chris Porterfield reminisces on his acclaimed band Field Report's sophomore record, Marigolden. The record is strewn with references to the inevitable tolls taken by the passage of time, and prolonged distance from home and loved ones.

The past couple of years have flashed by for Porterfield, who was thrust into the spotlight after years of musical reclusion. His Milwaukee-based band, Field Report (an anagram of his surname), was culled together in the studio while recording their 2012 self-titled debut. They suddenly found themselves championed by their former idols: offered support tours by Counting Crows and Aimee Mann, lauded by the likes of Mark Eitzel and Richard Thompson, and covered by Blind Boys Of Alabama.

The band honed itself from a septet to a quartet in the year that followed, focusing its sound and tightening the screws. With a heavy batch of songs under their arms, they retreated to snowy Ontario in December 2013 to record their sophomore album, Marigolden, with the help of producer Robbie Lackritz (Feist).

Spending two years roaming around the country playing tiny venues and sold-out amphitheaters alike, Porterfield was uncertain whether he was leading the charge toward an artistic epiphany or headed down a misguided path of self-destruction. Marigolden reflects this, as he ruminates across homesick tension and an un-grounded anxiety. But rather than wallow in melancholy, Porterfield finds solace and inspiration through his songs, which reveal themselves as uplifting and celebratory. The album is brighter than their 2012 debut, but somehow remains just as elegantly ominous.

Marigolden's second track, the surprisingly catchy radio single "Home," finds Porterfield on the road, hoping the home, wife, dog, and life he left behind in Milwaukee will still be there upon his return. "Leave the lights on," he asks, "it might be nighttime when I get there, but I'm on my way home." While the song contemplates lonesomeness, there is an undeniable sense of hope driving it. In "Summons," the penultimate track, he recalls this thought, repeating, "I'll be coming home to you" like a mantra. This sense of balance and symmetry across the album helps provide stability to the otherwise volatile themes. Case in point: the album starts with a sunrise in "Decision Day" and ends full circle with another in "Enchantment."

Whether reconsidering sobriety in "Pale Rider," sticking to tonic water in the bars of "Summons," or cashing in a 30-day chip for a kiss in "Enchantment," Porterfield's relationship with alcohol runs through the current of nearly every song. Most notably in "Ambrosia," where he find himself face to face with the reality of where his drinking is destined to lead.

The album runs the musical gamut, from the Traveling Wilburys-esque pop of "Home," to the Neil Young-inspired piano ballad "Ambrosia," to the electronic sonic landscape of "Wings." While the compositions express a wide range in terms of genre, they find unity in themselves within the limits of self-imposed minimalism. In the studio, the songs were stripped down to the bones and built back up using only their essential elements.

Sequestered in a seemingly never-ending Ontario blizzard, the band only broke from this musical process to add logs to the stove, with the snow and the fire providing a proper background for music so rooted in the elemental. The effect that this fundamentals-based approach achieves is universal: the sparse arrangements and common themes speak to everyone, but somehow feel tailored to each listener. The title itself reflects this, a portmanteau of two common images (marigold and golden) to create something that feels both idiosyncratic and familiar: Marigolden.

    Rays of Darkness

"One of the most distinctive bands of
    the 21st Century." - Pitchfork

"MONO have now well and truly
sealed their place in the pantheon of
    rock history." - Rock Sound

When MONO began in 1999, they set out with a simple mission:
From bliss to bludgeon, no matter how long or winding the path
may be. Their debut album, Under The Pipal Tree, outlined that
mission in twisted, psychedelic fury. Subsequent albums would see
the band honing their craft, mastering their mission, and ultimately
abandoning that path in favor of more grandiose pursuits. Flanked
by increasingly larger orchestras, MONO performed live at some of
the most prestigious venues in New York City, London, Tokyo, and
Australia. MONO had become an orchestral rock band, a spectacle
of extreme melancholy and melodrama. By 2012's For My Parents,
the band had finally reached the logical conclusion of that era; it
was time to remember where they started, and to rethink where
they were heading. Less strings? No strings? Louder? Quieter?
    Lighter? Darker? Yes.

The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness are a pair of new albums by
MONO. Recorded simultaneously yet conceptually and creatively
disparate, the two act as both opposing and complementary sides
to a story. No strangers to narratives, the twin albums explore
familiar themes for the band: Hope and hopelessness, love and
loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Those elemental parts of
life and the complicated relationships they create have never been
more resonant through MONO's music than they are here.

Rays of Darkness is the first MONO album in 15 years to feature
no orchestral instruments whatsoever. That fact alone is
remarkable given the band's reputation for sweeping, dramatic
instrumentals that recall Oscar-worthy film scores. Instead, Rays of
Darkness more closely resembles a jet engine taking off inside a
small, crowded auditorium. It is MONO's blackest album ever, a
collection of scorched riffs, doom rhythms, and an unexpected
contribution from post-hardcore pioneer Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy.
The album ends with the smoldering wreckage of distorted guitars
and ominous drones playing out a eulogy to the days when MONO
shot blinding rays of light through seemingly endless darkness.

How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb is the eleventh studio album by Irish rock band U2. It was originally released on November 22nd, 2004 on Island Records and Interscope Records and features the singles Vertigo, Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own, City Of Blinding Lights, All Because of You, and Original of the Species.

Much like their previous album, All That You Can't Leave Behind, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb exhibits a more mainstream rock sound after the band experimented with alternative rock and dance music in the 1990s. The album was produced by Steve Lillywhite, with additional production from Chris Thomas, Jacknife Lee, Nellee Hooper, Flood, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, and Carl Glanville.

    Hello World

The first album of new material from the classic lineup of Information Society (Kurt, Paul and James) in over 20 years. After playing some festival dates in Summer, 2013 the band began to discuss working on a new album and the result, _hello world is the offspring. _hello world is rife with songs that have one foot firmly planted in their past and one foot confidently resting in the present; it is filled with classic INSOC dance floor fodder like Get Back, soaring epics like Jonestown, and cinematic textures like Creatures of Light and Darkness. Embracing the many faces of synthetic music while remaining organically Information Society, _hello world isn't as much a rebirth of INSOC as it is a nuclear-powered version that ups the ante. The first single, Land of the Blind, is a swirling, propulsive track that hearkens back to their signature sound yet infuses it with state of the art production values. Longtime InSoc hero Gerald V. Casale adds his vocals in a duet with Kurt on their cover of Beautiful World which adds a modern splash to the Devo classic. The group stormed the club charts in the mid '80s with their Freestyle classic Running. Inspired by the worldwide response to the single, the group seized the opportunity and moved to New York to record their major label debut, Information Society, for Tommy Boy/Reprise. Producer Fred Maher was brought in, fresh from his work on Kraftwerk's Electric Café album, and helped Robb & co. craft a tight pop sound. Initial buzz for the first single What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy) was intense, and proved to be accurate; by the time the group got to its first in-store appearance, two days after the record's release, the album was sold out. 2014 is proving to be quite a year for the band. With history's tendency to repeat itself, it appears INSOC are poised for another takeover. _Hello World, indeed.

The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys

    40th Anniversary!

Mastered from the Original Island Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios with Kevin Gray

Traffic was one of the premier architects of the acid rock movement in the '60s and blossomed further into one of the most important super groups of the '70s. Their recordings are the soundtrack to a generation of music enthusiasts that continues to this day and will forever stand the test of time.

In 1972, the legendary founding members Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood sojourned on after a smash outing with John Barleycorn Must Die and continued the winning streak with the groundbreaking classic The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Along with new members Jim Gordon (Derek & The Dominoes), Rick Gretch (Blind Faith) and Rebop Kwaku Baah, Traffic was back and on a roll artistically unlike many other important acts of the classic rock era.

Known for more than its amazingly cube shaped album cover, the multi-faceted music inside was a non-stop enjoyment of sounds never heard or recorded since. Whether standout tracks from the pens of Jim Capaldi like the hard rocking Light Up Or Leave Me Alone or the powerful balladry of ancient sounds with the Winwood/Capaldi classic Rainmaker, this brilliant album will most certainly be known forever for its classic title track, the massive twelve minute plus epic, The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys. Filled with explosive sax breaks by the late Chris Wood, the piano driven and vocal delivery of master musician legend Stevie Winwood and the percussive vibrations of the late great Jim Capaldi, Jim Gordon and the late Rebop Kwaku Baah, the song was destined to become a huge success.
