    Wilderness Heart

Wilderness Heart, the new album by Black Mountain, is packed with succinct rock songs that pulse and pound with startling precision: it pummels you and you ask for more. This is arguably the band's tightest, most concentrated venture, but there's still plenty of raw rock energy at work. It's our most metal and most folk oriented record so far, songwriter Stephen McBean says. I'm not gonna say it's our best record or the album that we always dreamt of making 'cause that's what everyone says. It's all about where we were at the time the machines were rolling.

    Limited Edition Grey Vinyl

It's only a clichÉ because it's true, but the greatest records are timeless. Black Mountain's self-titled debut
album is just such a record. It is a new classic rock, with reference points arcane and clear, its sound fresh,
unfamiliar and irresistible. The work of a small collective of musicians operating from Vancouver, Canada,
far from any industry buzz but firmly in the eye of their own storm of creativity, Black Mountain's debut
album was, of course, a beginning, but it also marked an ending.

Begun as the fourth album for Jerk With A Bomb, the 4-track bedroom project turned non-rock band led
by Stephen McBean that preceded Black Mountain, the songs grew from skeletal sessions cut by McBean
and Josh Wells and honed on the road in empty North American clubs along with Amber Webber. "We'd lay
down the bed tracks, the guitars and drums," remembers McBean. "Matt [Camirand, bass] joined, and we
changed the band name after a dream of how life could be different in the B section between Black Flag and
Black Sabbath. Josh's roommate Jeremy [Schmidt, keys] was lurking about. We asked him if he wanted to
add some synth bleeps or whatever. He came back with all these orchestrated keyboard parts, and we said,
'Oh, you should probably join the band now.'"

They cut the album at the Hive and their jam space in Vancouver, recording in "a big cement room with a
tall ceiling, nice boomy acoustics, lots of natural reverb, on an 8-track reel-to-reel tape recorder." During the
sessions, these elemental first tracks found their true shape: wry & giddy, hypnotic & gracefully heavy, the
dark and powerful blues, and mysterious chugging murk.

The album's initial success saw the band take to the road, leaving their Vancouver enclave for stages across
the world. "It felt like there was a real explosion of excitement at shows," remembers McBean. "We wouldn't
write setlists, we'd just feel the energy in the room and call things out, jamming on songs like 'No Hits' and
'Druganaut.' It was a good time for live rock'n'roll: DJ booths were being transformed back to drum risers,
people were digging 20 minute heady jams and there were bands like Comets On Fire and Oneida out there
who we felt kinship with. I was into Faust and Amon Duul but had no idea of the scene of modern bands
doing that stuff. And then we met those bands, and it was cool. And then we went on tour with
    Coldplay and the adventures continued.

Their jaunt across the world as guests of perhaps the biggest band in the world is a tale for another time,
perhaps: the start of Black Mountain's next chapter, and all that followed. For now, savor the compact,
spacey brilliance of that cosmic, heavy and subtle debut album, expanded now with a raft of delicious bonus
tracks scavenged from the Black Mountain Army archives.

    IV

The rock canon has many anti-heroes, Black Mountain being the latest. In the past, Can's Tago Mago established that the only rule in rock and roll is that there are no rules. Pink Floyd's prodigious output in the 70s showed us that architecture can be cool, while unskilled laborers Black Sabbath demonstrated you can make a lot from not that much. Now Black Mountain teach us that you don't have to be afraid of the past to move bravely into the future, defining what it is to be a classic rock band in the new millennium. IV is their Houses of the Holy, an unapologetically ambitious record made by a group of musicians who are at the peak of their powers.

Founding fathers of Atlanta's flower punk movement, the Black Lips are set to release Arabia Mountain, their sixth full-length album, on longtime label Vice. Arabia Mountain was recorded between Brooklyn and Atlanta over the last few months of 2010 with the collaborative assistance of celebrated DJ and producer Mark Ronson, Lockett Pundt of Deerhunter, and a human skull with a microphone jammed into it.

Arabia Mountain marks the first time the Black Lips have worked with an outside producer. Mark Ronson, best known for his production work with the likes of Nas, Adele, Kaiser Chiefs, Duran Duran, Lily Allen, and Amy Winehouse, recorded nine of the album's 16 tracks while Lockett Pundt of Deerhunter produced 2 cuts.

Beyond The Black Rainbow (Original Soundtrack)

JAGJAGUWAR & Death Waltz Recording Company are proud and excited to release a true
masterpiece into the world with the soundtrack to Panos Cosmatos' BEYOND THE BLACK
RAINBOW. Posited as a lost film of the 1980s, the picture is inspired by classic dystopian
fiction and the obscure SF movies one used to see lining the shelves of the local video store. As
such, the brilliant soundtrack blends seamlessly amongst its influences; Tangerine Dream,
Wendy Carlos, and of course John Carpenter, with the latter's mark heard on the oppressive
synth percussion of the main titles and the evocative melodies heard throughout. Created by
Sinoia Caves, the ongoing project of Jeremy Schmidt, a disciple of the long-form cosmic
synthesizer soundscape, and member of Canadian psych-and-prog-spiritual pioneers Black
Mountain, this recording also features guest appearances by Joshua Wells, drummer of Black
    Mountain.

Schmidt's score is many things - haunting, uncompromising, intense - but is always a
fascinating listen. Incorporating touchstone elements such as mellotron choirs, glacial
analogue synthesizer pads and arpeggiators, Schmidt artfully navigates the various sonic
sensibilities of the 70s-80s genre aesthetic. What emerges from this schematic realm of the
'almost familiar' evolves and manifests as a work of striking originality, an ominously
beautiful, otherworldly and terrifying score. Simply put, BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW is
an astounding piece of work and must not be missed. Do you read me?

    The Mountain

The Heartless Bastards' story starts in Dayton, Ohio, where Erika Wennerstrom found the name on a multiple choice video trivia game at a bar. As a songwriting teenager during a time when GBV and Brainiac were packing local bars and three of the Breeders were still in town, Wennerstrom used to sneak into clubs to check out the scene. I would just see those people, my music heroes, hanging out at the bar like everyone else, she remembers. I could see myself in them. It gave me inspiration to do my own thing. After doing the usual business of playing local shows, the trio set out the following year on a regional tour. One of the first gigs of the trip took them to a bar in Akron, where Black Keys' drummer Patrick Carney just happened to be one of only a handful of people in the audience. This chance encounter led Wennerstrom and the Heartless Bastards to Fat Possum Records, with whom they released their debut, Stairs and Elevators, in early 2005.

The band moved on with critical praise in their back pocket, including a four-and-a-half star review from Rolling Stone, which took note that, when Wennerstrom opens her throat on Stairs and Elevators she sounds like shes wailing on the shoulders of giants; her sad and angry vocals channeling all the swagger and spit of a young Robert Plant. All This Time, was released during the summer of 2006, it received even more widespread critical acclaim than Stairs and Elevators. The Bastards played hundreds of shows to support the record. They played huge festivals and toured with Wilco and Lucinda Williams. Wennerstroms songs appeared often on TV shows and in films, this would be measured by most as a huge success. Though in Wennerstroms mind her sound and band were still evolving, and she knew it was time for a change.

In true ascetic discipline, she moved to Austin, Texas in 2007 for a change of inspirational scenery and a new recording project. With the help of producer Mike McCarthy (Spoon, Trail of Dead), she assembled a group of musicians with whom she gave the songs life and uncovered yet another layer of herself and the Heartless Bastards. The two new Bastards arent Texas ringers, but fellow Dayton brethren Dave Colvin on drums, and Jesse Ebaugh on bass, who actually played on the original demo that hooked Fat Possum. The album, entitled The Mountain, delivers the powerful howl that fans expect from the Heartless Bastards, but also weaves in adventure with mandolins, banjos, strings and Erikas transcendent voice.

Black Up is the new sonic move from Shabazz Palaces. Like rich velvet hijabs or gold threaded abayas. Luxury as understood by the modest. If Bedouins herded beats instead of goats and settled in Seattle instead of the Atlas Mountains, this would be their album. Forward thinkers but nostalgic for a sparer time when ancient astronomers only recognized five planets. Black Up was recorded and mixed in Lixx-alog by Blood and produced by Knife Knights at Gunbeat Serenade Studio in Outplace Palacelands.

    Black Sheep (Awaiting Repress)

Yonder Mountain String Band nationally releases its sixth full-length studio album, Black Sheep, on its own Frog Pad Records. On Black Sheep, Yonder Mountain continues to redefine bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n' roll and improvisation. Produced by YMSB, Black Sheep marks the first time the band utilizes (throughout an entire record) the conventional five-piece bluegrass instrumental line-up of guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle and bass. Two standout musicians, violinist Allie Kral and mandolin virtuoso Jacob Jolliff, were recruited for the recording and the forthcoming tour dates.

With the release of Black Sheep, Yonder Mountain begins a new era. It's instantaneously apparent that Black Sheep is the work of a new Yonder Mountain String Band, one with a strong commitment to re-exhibiting itself, broadening its parameters following the departure of a founding member. While it's certainly recognizable as YMSB music, there's undeniably a raw aesthetic to the studio tracks - a sense of daring is embedded in both the instrumental interaction between the five singular players and in the lyrical content of each song.

    Mountains Beaches Cities

Nashville rock favorites, Moon Taxi, have really hit the ground running in 2013. February saw the release of their second studio album, Cabaret; a keyboard laden, indie-prog rock venture. The band has hit the festival circuit hard over the summer playing the Hangout Music Festival, Wakarusa and Forecastle just to name a few. Now Moon Taxi is ready to release their third studio and second album of 2013, Mountains Beaches Cities.

Mountains Beaches Cities comes as a continuation of Cabaret. The songwriting style and recording process discovered while making their second studio album fuels the songs on Moon Taxi's newest effort. Mixed by Vance Powel of Third Man Records, the album features enormous drum sounds, multiple layers of keyboards and guitars and are driven by steady grooving bass lines.

Moon Taxi has released two singles from the new album to wet audiences appetites. The first release, 'Running Wild', is an indie pop number that uses signature Moon Taxi guitar riffs backed by keyboard synth layers. The lyrics speak of taking in the moment and making the most of life while there's still time.

Their second single, 'The New Black', is a hypnotic, head bobbing tune that plays off of one progression over and over. The dynamics rise and fall with the addition and subtraction of subtle layers that support the southern rock/blues guitar riff that drives the song.

Black Rose: A Rock Legend is the ninth studio album by Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1979. The album debuted at its #2 peak in the UK album charts and is the band's most successful studio album to date. It was the first time that blues rock guitarist Gary Moore remained in the band long enough to record an album after previous stints in 1974 and 1977 with Thin Lizzy. He appeared with frontman Phil Lynott in the rock band Skid Row in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Around this time Moore recorded the album Back on the Streets with Lynott, spawning the UK top 10 single Parisienne Walkways (with Lynott on vocals). He left Thin Lizzy that year following a dispute but worked with Lynott again on his tours in 1984 and 1985 and on the top 5 single Out in the Fields and accompanying album Run for Cover, on what were to be Lynott's final performances before his death in January 1986. Axl Rose has the cover of Black Rose: A Rock Legend tattooed on his right upper arm, and once said that he "wanted to show it to Phil Lynott, but then he died on me. The album included the second song Lynott wrote about a member of his family entitled Sarah, the first song by this name having appeared on 1972's Shades of a Blue Orphanage, written about his grandmother, also named Sarah. The song on this album is about his then newly born daughter. The last track "Róisín Dubh" is comprised of traditional songs, all arranged by Lynott and Moore, as well of original parts. The song Will You Go Lassie, Go (Wild Mountain Thyme) is sometimes mistakenly credited as a traditional song, but was written by William McPeake, and first recorded by Francis McPeake (and is on this album credited to F. McPeak).

The Black Angels third album, and first release on Blue Horizon, is the highly anticipated Phosphene Dream which marks a giant leap forward for the band. Produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Black Mountain) over a period of six months in Los Angeles, the album shows off both sonically and musically a bold new direction for The Black Angels, a fresh take on the neo-psychedelic movement theyve been at the forefront of for years.

While past albums Passover and Directions to See a Ghost were recorded in the bands hometown of Austin, Texas, the process of making Phosphene Dream pulled the band out of their comfort zone and forced them to look at songwriting and recording in a way they never have before. Years of non-stop worldwide touring had turned the band into a tightly wound unit, and those years of work are all on showcase here.

Hailing from the small town of Black Mountain, NC Kauffman channels the collective creative energy that has been birthed and transferred between the mountains of the Swannanoa Valley. For his 6th proper studio album Kauffman holed up in his own tiny studio and took from his experiences working with luminaries such as Dan Auerbach and Jim James and built upon them to further challenge his own style and sound by creating his most advanced work to date. Body Questions is a personal testament of the Floating Action vision, it is growth that challenges and exhilarates the sensory experience constructed in the form of extraordinary pop songs.

Mentored by Daniel Lanois, Daniel Burton has been putting his project-oriented stamp on a variety of records the last ten years and it has all coalesced into this career-defining work. Offshore is one continuous piece, made up of six distinct songs. It's equally beautiful and noisy, composed though loose, akin to the late '80s/early '90s 4AD-laden world of shoegaze wash-rock like Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Mark Hollis, their predecessor Peter Gabriel, or modern day saint William Basinski. In the Lanois/Eno tradition, Burton collected an all-star cast to flesh out his vision with members of Horace Pinker, Olo, Black Mountain, Windsor For The Derby, Unwed Sailor, and Tortoise.

    Deluxe Edition Remastered Vinyl

Remastered from the Original Master Tapes by Jimmy Page and Pressed at Pallas In Germany

Features Previously Unreleased October 1969 Concert From Paris, France

Led Zeppelin had a fully formed, distinctive sound from the outset, as their eponymous debut illustrates. Taking the heavy, distorted electric blues of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and Cream to an extreme, Zeppelin created a majestic, powerful brand of guitar rock constructed around simple, memorable riffs and lumbering rhythms. But the key to the group's attack was subtlety: it wasn't just an onslaught of guitar noise, it was shaded and textured, filled with alternating dynamics and tempos. As Led Zeppelin proves, the group was capable of such multi-layered music from the start. Although the extended psychedelic blues of Dazed and Confused, You Shook Me, and I Can't Quit You Baby often gather the most attention, the remainder of the album is a better indication of what would come later. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You shifts from folky verses to pummeling choruses; Good Times Bad Times and How Many More Times have groovy, bluesy shuffles; Your Time Is Gonna Come is an anthemic hard rocker; Black Mountain Side is pure English folk; and Communication Breakdown is a frenzied rocker with a nearly punkish attack. Although the album isn't as varied as some of their later efforts, it nevertheless marked a significant turning point in the evolution of hard rock and heavy metal.

    Led Zeppelin I (Awaiting Repress)

Remastered from the Original Master Tapes by Jimmy Page and Pressed at Pallas In Germany

    Heart of Oak (Awaiting Repress)

'Heart of Oak', the stunning Season of Mist debut full-length from ANCIIENTS, is one of 2013's most anticipated albums for a reason. The acutely modern, progressive quartet craft songs as nuanced and expressive as the range of human emotion, without eschewing their hard rock/heavy metal roots. Unforgettable tracks such as Raise the Sun, Falling in Line, The Longest River, and Faith & Oath hit hard and resonate deeply. With 'Heart of Oak' as their calling card, ANCIIENTS exude class and the confidence of a band beyond their years.
One of 2013's most anticipated albums - Decibel magazine (US)

'Heart of Oak' was produced by the band, and engineered by Jesse Gander (JAPANDROIDS, BISON B.C.) at The Hive Creative Labs (BLACK MOUNTAIN, NOMEANSNO) in Vancouver, Canada in Winter 2011/2012, and mastered by Alan Douches (MASTODON, BARONESS, CLUTCH) at WestWestside music. The album artwork was drawn by illustrator Alison Lilly.

During the gap of nearly 10 years since their last release, Fontanelle has been trying to transport themselves back in time to 1973 into Patrick Gleeson's Different Fur Trading Company studio. With the help of Randall Dunn's expertise (sunn O))), Black Mountain, Wolves in the Throne Room), it sounds like they made it!

Rex Ritter's tour of duty with Sunn O))) during Fontanelle's hiatus seems to have irreparably changed his DNA, as well as the bands. Adding an amazing array of horn players (many heard on sunn O)))s; Monoliths & Dimensions), Fontanelle has conjured a burly fusion jazz sound that has been dubbed, "White Magus."

Gentry Densley (Eagle Twin), Steve Moore (Earth, sunn O)))), Hans Teuber, Eric Walton (Skerik), Jef Brown (Jackie-O MF) and Dave Carter are all featured on Vitamin F. The band, based in Portland OR, is comprised of Andy Brown (Jessamine), Rex Ritter (Jessamine, sunn O)))), Paul Dickow (Strategy), Brian Foote, Nudge, Leech), Mat Morgan and Borg Norum. Vinyl version of this greasy-groovy masterpiece of fuzzed out funk from Southern Lord is limited to a one time pressing of 1,000.

    Ruby Red

Friends and fans of The Love Language songwriter and frontman Stuart McLamb have learned to expect a lot, but rarely in a timely manner. Completing a triumvirate of spiritual transmissions spent lost (2009's The Love Language) and found (2010's Libraries), 2013's Ruby Red exorcises the transient brilliance fostered by McLamb within the sheetrock walls of the album's namesake artist space.

Featuring over twenty musicians and straddling several time zones, The Love Language's lone puppeteer borrowed heavier equipment, and held on to it longer. Initiated in a windowless unit at the fabled Ruby Red, several failed attempts
and false starts at a songwriting spree landed McLamb and his engineer/case worker/boxing coach BJ Burton in Black Mountain, North Carolina, consuming every square inch of a carpeted bungalow located a few acres too close to their skittish neighbors. Soon after, Burton's relocation to Minneapolis
effectively thrust McLamb from their shared nest, helping Ruby Red discover its inherent propensity for flight.

Ruby Red produces new standards for the Carolina pop songbook, finding The Love Language as an extroverted community art project made by responsible citizens of a loosely packed scene
who know that McLamb will match whatever they contribute. The heartbreak is over. Now we're getting somewhere.

    First Time On Vinyl

Orange Mountain is pleased to announce for the first time on vinyl Philip Glass's 1998 score to the 1931 film DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi. For his new score, Philip Glass tapped the all-star Kronos Quartet and wrote specifically for them. In the late-1990s Universal Pictures approached composer Philip Glass to compose a new score for one of its classic monster movies. Glass chose to compose a score for Tod Browning's 1931 Dracula because it never had an original score. He composed the work for string quartet to evoke an ancient sound and now almost 20 years later Glass and Kronos continue to perform the music live to film around the world. In the end Glass's music gave the film new life, perhaps adding something that had been missing before there was music: structure and pacing and above all a new sense of mystery and soul.

DRACULA album was originally available on Nonesuch in the late-1990s.

This is the first time DRACULA is available on vinyl.

    No Witch

The Cave Singers spend a good deal of time beyond the darkened edges of Seattle, in the mist and mystic, among the wolves and redwoods. And their songs, at least on record, have always been like beautiful, faded grayscale photos of this hinterland. Now, these photos are injected with hot blood and technicolor, a ferocity and bite weve yet to see from the band.

By all accounts, No Witch is The Cave Singers rock record. Laid to tape with dark wizard producer Randall Dunn (Black Mountain, Sunn O))), Boris), No Witch is grander and more lush than The Cave Singers previous efforts. Its also a nervier, scrappier affair: greasy guitars buck and rear up; Eastern-influenced blues snake through songs; gospel choirs rise up like tidal waves.

There are big, grinning nods to Beggars Banquet-era Stones, the best of Mellencamp (Clever Creatures) and the juke joint legends of Mississippi like Junior Kimbrough and R.L. Burnside (Black Leaf and No Prosecution If We Bail). Of course, its all filtered through that particular, magical Cave Singers formula: Pete Quirks reedy, behind-the-beat delivery and existential wordplay, Derek Fudescos lyrical guitar runs and drummer Marty Lunds no nonsense rhythms.
