Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Soundtrack (Deluxe)

Includes 14 Songs Plus The Film Score

Though the musical heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel is its stellar mix of '70s pop-rock (Awesome Mix, Vol. 2), the movie has a terrific orchestral score too. Written by Tyler Bates (who also scored the film's first chapter), the cues here-like the movie itself-range from the thunderous and heroic (Ego, Gods, Vs. The Abilisk) to the surprisingly tender (Sisters, A Total Hasselhoff).

Dragged Down A Dead End Path

Rarely does a debut record come bursting out of the gates this ferociously angry and, frankly, awesome. Stirring up a pissed off mix of Napalm Death and His Hero Is Gone, Colorado's Call Of The Void pound out a furious ten-song grand slam of a record. Dragged Down A Dead End Path truly lives up to its name, because this is a record that beats listeners into submission. Blending hardcore, sludge, powerviolence, crust and grind, Call Of The Void are legit rising stars in hardcore and metal. Dragged Down A Dead End Path's crust and grind elements seamlessly merge to conjure visions of grind godfathers Pig Destroyer while effortlessly treading the abrasive caustic nature of Converge's hybrid progressive hardcore and Mastodon's technical metal-tinged rock mastery.

    Liital

Senegalese griot Aby Ngana Diop was famous for her taasu, a form of oral poetry spoken to the rhythmic accompaniment of sabar and tama drums. Taasu is typically created and performed by griot women (a class of poets, storytellers and/or musicians), with a lead taasukat (practitioner of taasu) performing her distinct style of heightened, rhythmically declaimed speech in call-and-response with a small chorus of female vocalists. (Taasu is seen by some to be a predecessor to rap.) Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Diop developed a reputation for being one of the most sought-after taasukats in Dakar, performing with her backup singers, dancers and drummers at parties, weddings and baptisms of the Dakar elite, including government officials and dignitaries. Aby Ngana Diop was undisputedly the best taasukat of her generation.

In 1994, the Dakar diva released her one and only studio cassette recording, Liital, to the Senegalese market. Liital was groundbreaking in the history of Senegalese music because it was the first commercial recording to feature a traditional female taasukat performing to the modern accompaniment of mbalax, Senegal's quintessential pop genre. The combination of Diop and her backup vocalists with their powerful taasu, along with the driving, complex rhythms of the sabar and tama drums, mixed with key elements of mbalax (such as the syncopated, polyphonic marimba sounds played on the Yamaha DX7 keyboard) was something the Senegalese public had never heard before. But it wasn't only because of the fusion of taasu with mbalax; unlike in other mbalax tunes, the musical arrangements on this cassette are instead peculiarly minimalist and almost trance-like, with static harmonies and melodic figures
playing more of an atmospheric role. The cassette became a huge hit, propelling Diop to a new level of superstardom. It could be heard blasting from taxis and from loudspeakers at house parties, weddings and baptisms for years to come. Liital bridged the gap between the more traditional taasu and the modern mbalax sound, thus appealing to all generations of the Senegalese public - and they simply couldn't get enough of it.

When Aby Ngana Diop died unexpectedly on July 4, 1997, the country mourned her passing, but continued to celebrate her music. Other artists such as Cheikh Lô, Thio Mbaye and Lamine TourÉ released recordings based on some of Diop's taasu and accompanying drum phrases, paying further tribute to her musical legacy. Although this cassette has caught the attention of some African music aficianados who have stumbled upon it in recent years, it remains largely unknown to the wider world. Hopefully this re-release from Awesome Tapes From Africa will change that.

    Justice (Awaiting Repress)

Bobby Ingram, brain, guitarist and main songwriter of American Southern rock act Molly Hatchet, the term 'justice' is more than just a word. To him, this basic concept expresses his whole philosophy of life. Justice, fairness, trust between friends, family members, parents and their children: what could be more important? Molly Hatchet live this maxim, to them this solemn promise applies not only within the international Southern rock community, but also to their music and its impact on their fans.

A dozen haunting rock numbers prove that Molly Hatchet are justly considered to be on a par with legends such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers. Justice is marked by hot Southern rock that could hardly be more powerful and diverse. Almost every single track signals its musical and thematic direction. Producer Ingram is responsible for the awesome sound, supported by sound engineer Tommy Newton, who mixed the album. "I wanted a warm, natural sound, which you only get with an analog mixing desk," Ingram explains his decision in favor of Newton and his Area 51 studio.

And so Justice has turned into an album that impresses at all levels: earthy, dynamic, with a lot of love for detail and loads of energy. One could say it's Molly Hatchet at their best!

    Starting From Nowhere

Starting From Nowhere is the debut release from Tim Heidecker and Davin Wood (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!). Their recordings here evoke the sounds of the 70's groups such as Steely Dan, The Eagles and Jackson Browne, brought to life with spot-on authenticity by Wood and Heidecker's strange mix of humor and sincerity.

    Idle Hands

Mixed & Mastered By Peter Rutcho At Damage Studios (THE GHOST INSIDE, BURY YOUR DEAD, VANNA)

"Energy-fueled epic-core with lots of aggression, a healthy blend of raw shouts and low end growls and foot stomping hooks." - Kerrang!

VICTORY RECORDS is proud to release Idle Hands, the debut album from dynamic South Wales, UK metal/hardcore outfit, CONTINENTS. Formed in 2010, CONTINENTS quickly established themselves within the ever-growing UK music scene through their intense music and stage presence. They are five self-proclaimed "lads with a party attitude who love getting groups of people into a room who share their passion for music." Live, this UK bunch throws a blistering barrage of energy at the crowd which is evident in their first music video, "Trials"; which received over 10,000 views on YouTube, in just the first few days. Thanks to "Trials", in November 2011 the band was voted as a favorite YouTube UK Metal Act and was featured on the YouTube home page.

"We've always tried to put our own passion for our music before external influence, the most important thing for us is that we enjoy the music we play, and if other people enjoy it too then that's awesome," said vocalist, Phil Cross. "We like to mix elements of our favorite styles and influences, and then put our own perspective on things to see where it takes us." CONTINENTS has created their heaviest music to date on Idle Hands all while incorporating a fresh take on modern hardcore. Expect 2013 to start off with a bang as CONTINENTS becomes a serious force to be reckoned with.

Stereo Mixes Produced By Mark Linett And Alan Boyd / Mixed By Mark Linett

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio, Most From The Original Master Tapes Or Best Sources Available

Lacquer Plating By Gary Salstrom And 200-gram Vinyl Pressing By Quality Record Pressings!

A musical legacy that began in Hawthorne, California and went on to conquer the world. Analogue Productions presents the ultimate pressings of 14 essential Beach Boys albums! Mastered by Kevin Gray, most from the original master tapes, and plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings, the finest LP pressing facility in the world, these are awesome recordings to experience. And the look of each album befits its sonic superiority! Presented in old school Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals!

Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) was released in stereo for the first time in 2012. These stereo mixes were created between 2005 and 2012 using the first generation basic tracking session multitracks, synced with the overdubs that were later added on second and third generation masters, to create the first true stereo mixes.

The exception is Help Me Rhonda, which is a computer-generated stereo mix by Derry Fitzgerald. A remix in stereo for that track isn't possible because many overdubs were added as the song was mixed for the original mono single. The stereo mixes for Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), Beach Boys' Party! and Smiley Smile were produced and mixed by Mark Linett, and co-produced by Alan Boyd.

Apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.

The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.

Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions - evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market, says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist.

All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

Summer Days features another Wilson world-beater production, California Girls, and the band's second No. 1 single, Help Me, Rhonda. Ever pressured by commercial concerns, Wilson and the band created what was in essence the true follow-up to the All Summer Long album. Still, there's a level of musical sophistication to tracks such as Salt Lake City, the Phil Spector tribute Then I Kissed Her, Summer Means New Love and Let Him Run Wild.

    Researching The Blues

Redd Kross is back and delivering their signature brand of genuine rock 'n' roll with a vengeance. Their Merge release Researching the Blues is the band's first new album in 15 years. Researching the Blues features 10 new songs clocking in at just under 32 minutes. With songs written by Jeff McDonald and produced and mixed by Steven McDonald, the album is by far the band's favorite record. Steve says, "It has the most singular artistic vision of any record we've done. It's just 10 really fucking awesome songs that have the ability to move you in many different ways."

Founded 34 years ago in Los Angeles during the first wave of LA punk rock by brothers Jeff and Steven McDonald (then respectively 15 and 11 years old), Redd Kross cut their teeth opening for Black Flag at a middle school graduation party. Their debut recordings caught the attention of Rodney Bingenheimer, who quickly became a fan as he spun their Ramones-inspired songs like "Annette's Got The Hits" and "I Hate My School" on the world-famous KROQ.

In 2006, Jeff and Steven announced their reunion with the "classic Neurotica" line-up, joined once again by guitarist Robert Hecker (It's Ok) and drummer Roy McDonald (The Muffs). Redd Kross have been playing to enthusiastic audiences at sold-out select shows and festivals such as the Azkena Festival; Coachella; The HooDoo Gurus' Invitational, "Dig It Up"; All Tomorrow's Parties; and Pop MontrÉal.

    Surfer Girl (Mono)

33 1/3 RPM Mono Mixes Created Under Brian Wilson's Supervision

    Audio Production - Mark Linett

For Brother Records - Elliott Lott

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio, Most From The Original Master Tapes Or Best Sources Available

Lacquer Plating By Gary Salstrom And 200-Gram Vinyl Pressing By Quality Record Pressings

To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, our Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson - famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger - intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson's supervision were how the surf rockin' California crew rose to fame! And we've got 'em!

For the early part of the Beach Boys career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format - they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. In those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Wilson, who suffers from partial deafness. Still, apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.

Bottom line, the mono mixes were where Brian Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off!

We've taken 10 of the most classic, best-sounding Beach Boy titles ever and restored them to their mono glory!

But there's no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like "Surfer Girl," "In My Room," "Little Deuce Coupe" and more lend themselves naturally to stereo. So we've got your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well.

Surfer Girl, the Beach Boys' third album for Capitol Records, was the first produced by Brian Wilson on his own (the previous two, Surfin Safari and Surfin Usa (Mono & Stereo Remasters), were co-produced by the late Capitol A&R man, Nik Venet). This album was The Boys' first really great effort; there's not a bad track in the lot, including the title song, Catch A Wave, In My Room, Hawaii, Our Car Club, Little Deuce Coupe, Your Summer Dream, and more.

All Summer Long was notable not only for racheting up the Beach Boys' standards and essentially bidding farewell to the surf songs that inspired both their name and reputation, but also for going toe-to-toe with one of rock's most explosive phenomena - Beatlemania - and coming away victorious, with the single 'I Get Around' soaring to No. 1 in the spring of 1964. Essentially another loose concept record (revolving around the innocent hedonistic pursuits of an idyllic SoCal summer) that takes its cue from the effervescent title track, it also documents Brian's restless creativity pushing the band toward its performing peak. - Amazon.com

It was Pet Sounds that blew me out of the water I love the album so much. I've just bought my kids each a copy of it for their education in life. I figure no one is educated musically 'til they've heard that album. - Paul McCartney

All of us, Ginger (Baker), Jack (Bruce), and I consider Pet Sounds to be one of the greatest pop LPs to ever be released. It encompasses everything that's ever knocked me out and rolled it all into one. - Eric Clapton

Pet Sounds is famous for its use of multiple layers of unorthodox instrumentation as well as other cutting edge audio techniques for its time. It's considered the best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound.

First mixed and released in stereo for the first time in 2012. These stereo mixes were created using the first generation basic tracking session multitracks, synced with the overdubs that were later added on second and third generation masters, to create the first true stereo mixes. The exception is Good Vibrations, which is a computer-generated stereo mix by Derry Fitzgerald. A remix in stereo wasn't possible because the original multi-track tape has never been located. The stereo mixes for Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), Beach Boys' Party! and Smiley Smile were produced and mixed by Mark Linett, and co-produced by Alan Boyd.

All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

After the much-discussed, uncompleted Smile project - which was supposed to take the innovations of Pet Sounds to even grander heights - collapsed, the Beach Boys released Smiley Smile in its place. (To clarify much confusion: Smiley Smile is an entirely different piece of work than Smile would have been, although some material that ended up on Smiley Smile would have most likely been used on Smile. Also, much of Smiley Smile was in fact recorded after the Smile sessions had ceased.), writes AllMusic.com

For fans expecting something along the lines of Sgt. Pepper (and there were many of them), Smiley Smile was a major disappointment, replacing psychedelic experimentation with spare, eccentric miniatures. Heard now, outside of such unrealistic expectations, it's a rather nifty, if rather slight, effort that's avant garde in the extreme. 'Wind Chimes,' 'Wonderful,' 'Vegetables,' and much of the rest is low-key psychedelic quirkiness, with abundant fine harmonies and unusual arrangements. The standouts, nonetheless, were two recent hit singles in which Brian Wilson's ambitions were still intact: The inscrutable mini-opera 'Heroes and Villains,' and the number one hit 'Good Vibrations,' one of the few occasions where the group managed to be recklessly experimental and massively commercial at the same time. - AllMusic.com

    It

Almost a decade before their status as press darlings and eccentric purveyors of weird and wonderful pop music, a deeply disturbed Sheffield pop group crafted a brace of loveably awkward pop classics, most notably the controversial Little Girl (With Blue Eyes). Pulp were simply awesome and undeniably strange, ranging from Scott Walker balladeering to post-punk, avant-garde aggressiveness.

Fire Records will be reissuing the first three Pulp albums as part of their Embers series. Constituting three very different stages in the development of the band, the albums cover a staggering sonic range from the pastoral, acoustic sounds of It (1983), to the darkly romantic Freaks (1987) and the disco-tinged Separations (1992). They point to Jarvis Cocker's varied sources of musical inspiration and show a band in the process of finding their own unique voice, whilst hinting at the greatness that would follow. All three come newly re-mastered and beautifully repackaged, complete with additional bonus material and brand new liner-notes by Everett True.

As one of their most honest recordings, It captures a band at the very beginning of their startling career. It is a gentle, mainly acoustic album, hinting at the musical directions Pulp would later pursue. The record touches on the majestic, theatrical ballads of Scott Walker as well as the stark, folky song-poems of Leonard Cohen. Produced by a young band in the process of pinpointing their direction, the album has aged beautifully into a charming collection.

The reissue features 4 bonus tracks including single version of My Lighthouse, an alternative mix of Blue Girls, as well as the previously unreleased Sink Or Swim and Please Don't Worry from Pulp's John Peel session in 1981.

And throughout every song the magnificent incomparable vocals of Vanessa. Yes - the album was recorded all analogue multi track but several of the vocal tracks are the complete original live track used without any overdubs or fixes. The vocal performance on Babe I'm Gonna Leave You is gonna leave some listeners breathless!!

Engineered by Michael C. Ross, mixing of the all analogue album, When the Levee Breaks by Vanessa Fernandez, was completed at United Recordings (formerly known as Oceanway Recordings). The mixing was done in the legendary studio A with it's great sounding custom built mixing board. The album was mixed down to 1/4 inch 30 ips tape and delivered to Bernie Grundman Mastering where the mastering and lacquer cutting was done.

Today! was released in stereo for the first time in 2012.

Put simply, this is the Beach Boys at their mid-'60s prime. Ironically, the band's greatest evolutionary leap was spurred by its leader, Brian Wilson, who decided to drop out of the band's live performances after a December 1964 nervous breakdown to concentrate on honing the Beach Boys' studio sound. With Wilson's productions gaining a significant new depth and confidence (note the innovative modulations on 'Dance, Dance, Dance'), the first half of Today seems a logical, upbeat step forward from its predecessors. But it's the album's second act that steals the show, setting the stage for the triumph of Pet Sounds. Indeed, it's easy to imagine gorgeous, introspective tracks such as 'Please Let Me Wonder,' 'She Knows Me Too Well,' and 'In the Back of My Mind' intertwined with the best of Sounds. - Amazon.com

    Sonic Child

SONIC CHILD the new record from Germany's Blues Rock leaders ZODIAC is mixed, mastered and sounds amazing. Martin MeinschÄfer (Megaphon Tonstudios) comments about the recordings: There is some massive energy coming out of the speakers! In terms of production technology there where no boundaries. The game was: awesome wins! It didn't matter if it was an old deluxe guitar sound or a moog solo. It had to give the song something special, an organic sound and it had to reflect the unconditional love for music. Just the right level of natural room is again featured in the production as it did in the late 60ies and early 70ies records!" Vocalist & Lead Guitarist Nick Van Delft comments, "The idea behind SONIC CHILD is actually very simple: As a child, you hear music in its purest form. You do this without caring about a certain image, without looking at the band pictures, without thinking about fancy clothes or any other parameters; you just listen to the music and create your own vision of it. Nowadays, it seems for many bands that music isn't the most important element anymore. That's why we wrote a concept album about the love for music in general. It is our "Sonic Child", and we hope you'll cherish it as much as we do.

The first Shut Down was a hugely successful Capitol Records Various Artists compilation LP that had included a pair of Beach Boys tracks. Whereas their previous album Little Deuce Coupe had been a full-on car themed concept album, the Beach Boys' Shut Down Volume 2 was pretty much evenly split between songs with car themes and various high school and summertime-themed tunes. The album sought to further the Beach Boys beyond its ironic sea-and-sun fetish (none but Dennis Wilson ever surfed) into the burgeoning hot-rod subculture. ... the high points remain nothing short of spectacular, including the Mike Love-propelled 'Fun, Fun, Fun,' Wilson's knowing nod to Phil Spector, 'Don't Worry Baby,' and the (hit) 'The Warmth of the Sun.' - Amazon.com

Summer Days features another Wilson world-beater production, California Girls, and the band's second No. 1 single, Help Me, Rhonda. Ever pressured by commercial concerns, Wilson and the band created what was in essence the true follow-up to the All Summer Long album.

We've taken 10 of the most classic, best-sounding Beach Boy titles ever and restored them to their mono glory! But there's no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like "Surfer Girl," "In My Room," "Little Deuce Coupe" and more lend themseleves naturally to stereo. So we've got your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well.

Capitol Records, which had already released ten Beach Boys albums in three years, was bugging the group for product that it could release in time for the 1965 Christmas season. To buy time while Brian Wilson began conceiving the Pet Sounds masterpiece, the group issued a set of covers, mostly of the '50s rock and R&B they had listened to as schoolboys. Packaged as if it had been recorded at an actual party, it was in fact recorded in the studio, with friends and romantic partners adding sounds and vocals to create an informal atmosphere. With the exception of a bass guitar, all the instruments were acoustic; the acoustic guitar-and-bongo arrangements, in fact, give this a hootenanny campfire feel. In recent years, this album has gone up a few notches in critical esteem, praised for its loose, casual feel and insight into the group's influences. ... It does have the massive hit 'Barbara Ann,' which actually features Dean Torrence (of Jan & Dean) on much of the lead vocals; other highlights include 'Mountain of Love,' an unexpected version of 'The Times They Are a-Changin',' and three Beatles covers. - AllMusic.com
