    180 Gram Deluxe Gatefold Edition

    16 Page Booklet

Includes Bonus 7 With 2 Extra Tracks

Andrew Bird has always been highly respected and has held a captive audience with his story telling prowess, but it's with his new album, Are You Serious, that he has made a breakthrough record. Coming out via his new label home, Loma Vista Recordings (Spoon, St. Vincent, HEALTH), and produced by Tony Berg, the album propels him into a new category of American songwriters. It's his most direct lyrically to date with key contributions from Fiona Apple and Blake Mills.

Three years ago while traveling west to California to start a new life with his wife and young child they stopped at the family farm in rural Illinois for two weeks to catch their breath. The previous two years had been intense to say the least: raising a child in New York City as his wife battled a serious illness. With these dark days behind them he spent the next seven days on the front porch writing the lyrics for what became Are You Serious. It's a breakthrough for him in that it gets to the quick of the matter. This is the record he needed to make right now and is certain to put him in the leading class of American songwriter.

The album was put together with a rigor akin to a novelist or playwright and musically crafted like a wrecking crew session where you have to be good right in that moment. There's little folksy quaintness or whimsical flights of fancy. There's less wordplay and more intent to process some difficult times that he went through. From the album art, created by the godfather of conceptual art John Baldessari to foregoing his traditional writing process, Bird has emerged from challenging times and a new process with an album that may be his best.

The first single Capsized" begins to take you down the path that Bird so carefully crafted on the record, speaking from an unguarded point of view while keeping with the melodic, syntactic standards that he has held true to since the beginning of his career.

    Hands Of Glory

The new record is the product of a pair of recording sessions prompted by the overwhelming response to Bird's "old-time" sets on recent tours. Reinterpreting songs from Break It Yourself and featuring covers of classic country tunes, these "old-time" performances find Bird and his full band playing to a single microphone with an entirely acoustic setup. Drawing inspiration from these sets, Hands of Glory features two brand new original tracks, a new interpretation of "Orpheo Looks Back" from Break It Yourself and covers of the Handsome Family, Alpha Consumer and others.

    Weather Systems (On Sale)

Described by Pitchfork in 2003 as "music for the ages that demands to be heard", the songs on Andrew Bird's second solo album reveal themselves at a confidant, unhurried pace reflecting the thoughtfulness with which they were conceived. Weather Systems originated in a barn converted to studio/living space in remote western Illinois, as creating music was becoming central to Bird's everyday life. The virtuoso instrumentalist employs violin, glockenspiel, organ, whistling, and tape loops to set the scene for the intimate, haunting stories he tells through his lyrics. It's a lush, gorgeous collection of seven original songs plus Bird's own adaptation of a Galway Kinnell poem and a Handsome Family cover "Don't Be Scared" (which Andrew recorded again on his 2014 covers album, 'Things Are Really Great Here Sort Of"), showcasing his gift for conveying subtle emotional states purely through music. Originally released in 2003, Weather Systems is now available on vinyl for the first time (150 gram/re-mastered for vinyl) through Wegawam Music with reimagined art by Jay Ryan.

    Bon Iver

Bon Iver is Justin Vernon returning to former haunts with a new spirit. The reprises are there, solitude, quietude, hope and desperation compressed, but always a rhythm arises, a pulse vivified by gratitude and grace notes. The winter, the legend, has faded to just that, and this is the new momentary present.

Bon Iver is often equated with just me, says Vernon, but you are who surrounds you, and for Bon Iver I wanted to invite those voices as musical catalysts. Thus on the track Beth/Rest and throughout the album, we hear the pedal steel of Greg Leisz (Lucinda Williams, Bill Frisell), the uniquely layered low end of Colin Stetsons (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire) saxophones, the riffing of Mike Lewis (Happy Apple, Andrew Bird) altos and tenors, and the lush horns of C.J. Camerieri (Rufus Wainwright, Sufjan Stevens). Bon Iver regulars Sean Carey, Mike Noyce and Matt McCaughan contributed vocals, drums and production, Rob Moose (Antony and the Johnsons, The National) helped with arranging and added strings, and fellow members of Volcano Choir, Jim Schoenecker and Tom Wincek provided processing.

Bon Iver was recorded and mixed over the course of three years at April Base Studios, a remodeled veterinarians clinic located in rural Fall Creek, Wisconsin.

    Two Matchsticks

The Wooden Birds' Two Matchsticks follows-up their critically acclaimed 2009 debut Magnolia. The Wooden Birds are fronted by American Analog Set founder and Broken Social Scene collaborator/touring member Andrew Kenny.

The album was recorded in a converted bedroom studio in Kenny's Austin home and mixed at Resonate Studio with producer Louie Lino (Nada Surf). It features a special guest appearance by Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard along with members of Ola Podrida.

While Two Matchsticks keeps the percussive affects of The Wooden Birds' debut, the band drew on the strengths of their live show in writing the album, making it a stronger record sonically, more driven, upbeat and fuller than their previous efforts.

The most noticeable difference is the increased presence of members Leslie Sisson and Matt Pond who, in addition to singing backing vocals on the album, sing lead and duet with Kenny on some of the album's most memorable songs.

    Break It Yourself

Break It Yourself is the highly anticipated follow-up release to Andrew Bird's 2009 album Noble Beast. Produced at his own Western Illinois barn-turned-studio, the sessions for the album featured a mix of distilled, grounded songs and some wild soloing with fine support from long-term collaborator Martin Dosh on drums, Jeremy Ylvisaker on guitar and Mike Lewis on bass. The 14-song set includes cuts as the steel-drum heavy Danse Caribe, the instrumental Behind the Barn and the lush, eight-minute Hole in the Ocean Floor among others.

We had our front of house engineer Neal Jensen bring his old Tascam 8-track tape machine and Yamaha board (nothing fancy) out to my barn, Bird said about the recording. We rolled tape as we were learning the songs and to our surprise we started nailing the songs by the second take. I think we got a rough, unfussy honesty in this session.

In addition to versions of the album on 2LP and CD, this super deluxe collectible vinyl box also includes the short film Here's What Happened on DVD featuring live performances, the creation of the album and a rare look into Birds' private studio.

Annie Clark, better known by her stage name, St. Vincent, is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She began her music career as a
member of The Polyphonic Spress and was also part of Sufjan Stevens' touring band before forming her own band in 2006. Annie currently resides in
    Manhattan.

Her debut album was Marry Me, and was followed by Actor (2009). Her third album Strange Mercy was released on September 13, 2011.
Clark has opened shows for such acts as Television, Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Jolie Holland, John Vanderslice, Death Cab for Cutie and Grizzly Bear.

Teased late last year in a series of cryptic status updates, the forthcoming self-titled album from St. Vincent is one of the most anticipated of 2014.

The album was produced by John Congleton and features Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss and Midlake's McKenzie Smith on percussion. I knew the groove needed to be paramount, Annie Clark said in a press release. I wanted to make a party record you could play at a funeral.

    Birds Fly South

New West Records is excited to announce the signing of The Mastersons, a Brooklyn based band who make music that fuses indie pop and folk music with big, sweet melodies (Houston Chronicle.) Eleanor and Chris, who were married in 2009, spent most of the last year on tour with Steve Earle as an integral part of his band The Dukes and Duchesses. Each night, Earle stepped aside mid set and let the Mastersons play. The young couple took the opportunity to introduce audiences to songs from their debut record Birds Fly South.

Chris and Eleanor met in 2005 appropriately at a music festival; Chris was playing with Jack Ingram and Eleanor with Susan Gibson. Their accomplished songwriting talents and inherent musical ability have allowed them to co-write and play with many high-caliber musicians over the years.

Chris, who at the age of 13 could be seen playing guitar regularly around his hometown of Houston, collaborated with Jack Ingram on the song Dont Want To Hurt and co-wrote Virginia Belle and Sleeping With The Lights On with Pat Green for his record Cannonball. Hes played in Son Volt, with Bobby Bare Jr, Hank Williams III and Ingram.

Eleanor, who fell in love with the violin after attending an Itzhak Perlman concert with her opera singer mother, has played with an impressive list of musicians herself including Regina Specktor, Diana Ross, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison and Angus and Julia Stone. She also has co-writing credits including writing Shape Im In with Susan Gibson (who wrote Wide Open Spaces.)

Both Eleanor and Chris have released solo albums but Birds Fly South is the first Mastersons album. As Chris recently told the Houston Press, We've been on the road so much the past few years it took some time to jell as one act, says Masterson. We've been writing songs as they came, and we finally started to sound like a band instead of a song swap. So we thought we were ready to do an album together.

On Birds Fly South, The Mastersons worked with friends in Austin including Grammy Award Winning Engineer Steve Christensen to record their rootsy, melodic, twangy, pop songs. Eleanors whimsy, sultry vocals meet Chris angular guitar playing while their harmonies tangle as they sing dark words dressed in bright melodies. Chris and Eleanor showcase their musical talents playing most of the instruments on the record themselves. They both play electric and acoustic guitar, mandolin, and high strung guitar with Chris also playing 12-string and resonator guitars while Eleanor also adds tenor guitars, violin, and baritone violin.

Rounding out the sound on the record is George Reiff playing bass guitar and Falcon Valdez on drums and percussion. Additional players include Mike Hardwick, Sweney Tidball and Andrew Duplantis. Produced collectively by Steve Christensen, Chris Masterson, George Reiff, Falcon Valdez, and Eleanor Whitmore, Birds Fly South was recorded at The Finishing School in Austin, TX.

    New Moon Hand

In the hills of East Alabama, Willem Maker has been honing his skills in virtual secrecy for the past decade. Deciding to step beyond the bedroom demos and occasional acoustic performance, Maker released last year's Stars Fell On and now he has decided to move even further along with it's follow up New Hand Moon. Recorded at several different locations including Memphis' Electraphonic Recordings with Scott Bomar and at Mark Nevers' (Will Oldham, Andrew Bird) Nashville studio The Beech House, New Hand Moon has a full guest cast of legendary Southern musicians such as Jim Dickinson, Cedric Burnside, Alvin Youngblood Hart and many more.

    Wild Animals

Wild Animals, the highly anticipated album from critically acclaimed Trampled by Turtles,
produced by the lead singer-songwriter of Low, Alan Sparhawk, and recorded in the legendary Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, MN (Nirvana, Andrew Bird, The Jayhawks).
Of the new music Dave Simonett (guitar, vocals) notes, "We all tried to come into this
thing extremely open-minded. How can we sound new to ourselves? I feel like the sound
has changed and is changing, especially from Palomino to now. A lot of our reputation
from even just a couple years ago was that we were this fast band, which we can do,
and we do that. But this record focused a little bit more on other aspects of our playing
    together."

    Cho Dependent (On Sale)

Critically acclaimed comedian Margaret Cho is set to release an album of comedy songs on her own Clownery
Records this August. I want to create a new genre of music that is hilarious but also seriously good, so I turned to
some of my music heroes to help me out, says Margaret in reference to her forthcoming album Cho Dependent. I
have wanted to make an album like this forever. I love comedy music!

The lyrics on Cho Dependent, which tackle issues of sex, drugs, rock & roll (and lice), may be laugh-inducing, but
Cho has made no compromises when it comes to the quality of the songwriting and production. Aer My Puss,
a hilarious rap parody Cho recorded impromptu-style with friends, became a surprise YouTube hit, Cho began to
integrate more comedy music into her live stand-up shows. With Cho Dependent, her first comedy music album, Cho
got a chance to hone her cra with some of the top names in the business.

Over the years of being an intense music geek I got to meet a lot of my heroes and I tricked them all into writing
songs with me, explains Cho. Most comics want to be rock stars, and most rock stars want to be comics, so it was an
    easy exchange.

There are so many amazing people I got to work with on this album, Cho continues, Jon Brion, Fiona Apple,
Tegan and Sara, Andrew Bird, Ani DiFranco, Garrison Starr, Meghan Toohey, Brendan Benson,
Rachael Yamagata, Carl Newman, Grant Lee Phillips, Patty Griffin, Ben Lee, Kevin Barnes $ I still have to

    Lighght

"I really felt like I was witnessing history... in a couple of years we'll be talking about,
'Man, I saw him at this intimate little show." - NPR

"Grand and transcendent... the layers of beautiful sound, homage to Japanese culture,
and use of violin make 151a a dreamy, pocket-sized symphony, perfect for anyone
    needing a lift." - BUST

"Sumptuous orchestral brilliance... It's a stunningly good record, not merely chirpy,
zany, and whimsical-but also packed full of harmonious, heart-stopping beauty. If you
can imagine ELO's very best moments combined with Andrew Bird and a bit of weird
Bjork introspection-well, even that doesn't really do it justice. Apart from Pet Sounds,
perhaps, I can't think of a record that's as singly captivating in its sonic beauty." - THE PORTLAND MERCURY

"Kishi Bashi's music sounds surprisingly basic and natural. He's got such a great way
of thinking about production and melody that I've yet to hear a bad song from him." -
    YOU AIN'T NO PICASO

"The music is off-kilter, particularly the opening chants and swirl of guitar and drums.
The middle section, though, takes a more even-keeled approach to pop, balancing the
looped whistles with peaceful, yet evocative vocals."
    - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

"A weightless, cartwheeling, electro-pop romp that's all zz and no fuss" - SPIN

Violinist, singer, and composer Kishi Bashi is slated to release his new album on
April 29, 2014. The album entitled "Lighght" (pronounced "Light") continues and
expands the sound of his critically acclaimed debut, "151a" - which earned Kishi Bashi
the *title* of "Best New Artist" by NPR. Since the profoundly successful release of
"151a" two years ago, Kishi Bashi has toured relentlessly, captivating audiences across
the globe with his loop-based live show, and fostering a groundswell of devotees.

"151a" was crafted over a four-year period while Kishi Bashi was touring and recording with Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal (where he was a full-time
member and co-producer). In late 2012, after the success of "151a", Kishi Bashi
decided to focus solely on his own music and began composing the new material
    which has become "Lighght".

"Lighght" takes its title from the one-word poem by minimalist poet Aram Saroyan.
As Kishi Bashi explains, "The poem's blatant assault on literary convention and
classical form was attractive to me." It is apparent that such an approach informed
the new album, which has both broadened and redened his classical foundations.
"Though I have studied classical composition, I prefer to take an unconventional path when it comes to creating and thinking about music," says Kishi Bashi.

Though violin remains his primary instrument and songwriting muse, Kishi Bashi has
expanded his palette to include more diverse and nuanced instrumentation. Bright
and soaring avant-pop songs are prevalent, as are Eastern-tinged arrangements,
gentle ballads, Philip Glass inspired improvisations, and more than a few moments
that irt with 70s prog (in the tradition of ELO or Yes).

If this sounds jarringly kaleidoscopic, that's because it is. But it works. Listen and see.

    Magnolia

The Wooden Birds is the new project of American Analog Set frontman Andrew Kenny. He returned home to Austin from Brooklyn to make Magnolia the album of his career, featuring members of acclaimed bands Sparklehorse, Ola Podrida and Lymbyc System.

Despite the involvement of new musical partners, creating a much more vocal-and percussion-driven sound than the keyboard-and-vibes-hypnotics of American Analog Set, his voice and ear for melody and rhythm are unmistakable on Magnolia.
