The Santana/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series Continues!

The Original 1976 Rock Fusion Classic Amigos Album!

First Time 180 Gram Vinyl + Gatefold Cover + Full Color Insert Presentation!

Mastered By Joe Reagoso - Pressed At R.T.I.

The legendary Santana set the music world on fire back in the late sixties out of San Francisco with their hypnotic blend of Latin-fused rock, jazz and soul, augmented with brilliant and skillful musicianship of their leader and
guitarist Carlos Santana. Bursting on the scene initially with the worldwide smash hit single Evil Ways (Santana's
Greatest Hits Friday Music #33050), this first offering would prove to become the huge catalyst for things to come.
Throughout the remainder of the late seventies and beyond, Carlos Santana would take the band to the top of
all the popular music charts as the 1976 fusion classic Amigos would go on to yield a plethora of hit tracks at all
    formats of radio,

As one of the most enduring albums in their massive career catalog, Santana's Amigos included some significant
album tracks too like the rocking masterpiece Let Me and the powerful Gitano, which features the legendary funk and
soul percussion of Armando Pereza. More deep funk and fusion follow with tunes like Take Me With You which also
feature the stunning lead guitar work of Carlos Santana, plus his long time associates Tom Coster on keyboards, David
Brown on bass, Leon Chancler on drums, and newest member Greg Walker with his stellar vocals which helped carry
the band back into gold and platinum territory with this wonderful album. All in all, this is a collection of songs which
took the fans by storm, forever retaining the title superstars to the Santana franchise.

    Amigos (Speakers Corner)

Santana's music is like the game of Mikado - a tight bundle of pieces in various styles that is difficult to handle, even for experienced musicians. No whether the sticks are labelled funk, jazz, rock, R & B, or folk: when you try to pick out just one of these, the whole lot vibrates alongside.

It seems relatively simple (and is often attempted) to try and sort out track lists according to more or less commercially oriented compilations. And having fastidiously set up the ranking and astutely discussed it in your circle of friends, you can sit back and enjoy the brilliant guitar sound of such blockbusters as Caravanserai or Welcome - quality rules the day!

In his seventh album the guitar guru is once again surrounded by numerous freshly recruited supporting musicians and the star producer David Rubinson. The latter watches carefully over the development of this project, which is highly reminiscent of the early Santana sound. A perceptible infatuation with the vocals, or the wealth of buzzing, pulsating, clattering, clicking rhythms, or yet again the inimitable bubbling, frothy guitar solos: a Santana LP is simply unthinkable without all this. Why then should one try to pick out the various styles, genres or consumer groups when this record belongs to his best and most important six, seven - or maybe even eight? At the end of the day, we all remain amigos with Santana.

    Musicians:

    • Devadip Carlos Santana (guitar, vocals, percussion, conga)

    • Tom Coster (keyboards)

    • Ndugu Leon Chandler (drums, percussion, conga)

    • Armanda Peraza (conga, percussion, vocals)

    • David Brown (bass)

    • Greg Walker (vocals)

Recording: 1976 at Wally Heider Recording Studios, San Francisco, by Fred Catero and David Rubinson

Production: David Rubinson & Friends, Inc.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Arepa 3000: A Venezuelan Journey Into Space (Awaiting Repress)

[Los Amigos Invisibles] has taken the rhythmic sass in salsa, the bass-heavy fun in funk, and even the note-bending bile in acid-jazz, and mixed it all up to produce an infectious beat. [They] have put the joy back into dancing, sending a warm current into the cold alienating waters of industrial strength techno. - LA Weekly

We're a dance band, says Jose Luis Pardo, the guitarist for Los Amigos Invisibles. Tuned into groove culture from Detroit to London to Tokyo -- thanks to the Internet and a busy tour schedule -- the Amigos began work on their new album AREPA 3000: A VENEZUELAN JOURNEY INTO SPACE with a disco sensibility. Admiring French DJ/producers the band sought a heavier house sound in contrast to the retro and lounge elements of THE NEW SOUND OF THE VENEZUELAN GOZADERA. The lounge thing sounds more Japanese, says Jose Luis. The house sound is fresher, the disco songs we do sound more like that. The album is more electronic in certain ways.

    Moonflower

Mastered from the Original Columbia Records Tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI/AcousTech

Moonflower was a mega triumph set for Carlos Santana and his band. Flying high from major success with their Festival and Amigos albums, Moonflower furthered this excitement in both the studio and concert setting. With a generous mix of Santana classics and new and soon to be classics like The Zombies Shes Not There, Moonflower rapidly achieved gold and platinum status.

The Moonflower line-up was second to none. Featuring the classic rock guitar styling of the legendary Carlos Santana, along with supreme vocalist Greg Walker, power drummer Graham Lear, pianist Tom Coster and the return of Jose Chepito Areas along with Paul Rekow and Pete Esovedo on percussion, this album was truly an inspiring and groove event for the ages.

And now Friday Music is proudly offering Santana's Moonflower album on 180g Audiophile Vinyl for the first time. Mastered impeccably from the original Columbia Records tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at RTI/AcousTech, this stunning two LP set is manna for the ears and soul.

Not only is the chart topping Shes Not There represented here, but Carlos and Co. swing heavily on the mighty Black Magic Woman in a fierce live setting, as well as the storming crowd pleaser Soul Sacrifice/Heads Hands & Feet. Some of the newer material like the Latin infused rocker Zulu, the solid opener Dawn/Go Within and of course the solid revisit live rendition of the classic Europa make this a perfect listen in the audiophile domain.

A Historic Record - Recorded Just Four Years Removed From The Dawn Of The Analog Tape Era!

Remastered By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound From The Original Analog Tapes

Recorded On An Ampex 200, Using 3M-111 Magnetic Tape Running At 15 Inches Per Second

Gatefold Old-School Tip-on On Jacket By Stoughton Printing Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!

Named A 2015 Record To Die For By Stereophile Magazine.

Remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tapes, the record was plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. The depth and space when those rich chromatic harmonies create a wide and well-defined soundscape, the timbre of the orchestra as a whole as well as individual instruments, and the thick, wooden sound of Wendell Marshall's bass are among the aural pleasures provided when you drop a needle on this platter; expect goose bumps. - Music = 5/5; Sonics = 4.5/5 - Jeff Wilson, The Absolute Sound, May-June 2015.

I chose the CD reissue of this album as one of my R2D4s for 2012, but now from Chad Kassem's Analogue Productions comes this QRP LP, and it's an occasion for popping corks. Released in 1950, this was Ellington's first LP, and he used the new medium to stretch out four of his biggest hits. The arrangements are jaw-droppingly gorgeous and the sound just slightly less so. Recorded by Fred Plaut, who later miked Kind of Blue and other Columbia classics, it has the dynamics, depth, and in-your-face tonal realism of a modern (mono) audiophile thumper. Among the best jazz albums ever. - Fred Kaplan, for Stereophile - Records To Die For - February 2015.

This new re-issue slays my vintage copy in every way. Every dimension of the recording was much better...dynamics, harmonics, frequency response, detail, jump...all just leaped out at me! The recording sounded like it had been made that morning...absolutely fresh-sounding. No veiling. No roll-off. In fact, it's so good that it doesn't matter that this is a mono recording! Listen to it on a great turntable...you'll hear mono that fools you into thinking that it's not mono. Just wait until you hear Yvonne Lanauze sing, Mood Indigo amigos, after a long instrumental build-up...she'll take you there! ... The pressing itself was impeccable: flat, and free of noise, tics and pops...a genuine masterpiece of the pressing-plant arts. The Hyperion OCL, the finest cartridge that I've ever heard, revealed how superbly these grooves were carved! Commendable, reference-grade analog...very, very close to master tape sound. Very damned close! Kissing cousins close! Hell, maybe even closer than that. In fact, I now consider the Analogue Productions re-issue of Masterpieces by Ellington to be one of the very finest Jazz records ever released. (Sorry Miles! Move over, Kind of Blue!). - David W. Robinson, editor-in-chief, Positive Feedback Online.

Most highly recommended (the record is now on the QRP presses). It's one of my 'Records to Die For' in the February 2015 Stereophile. A true classic both musically and sonically and a historical work of art you can now own. - Music = 11/11; Sound = 11/11 - Michael Fremer, AnalogPlanet.com.
