Complete Third: Vol. 2: Roughs To Mixes

Critically acclaimed Big Star Complete Third boxed set, Volume 2, titled Roughs To
Mixes continues the journey, featuring rough mixes from producer Jim
Dickinson, as well as Ardent's John Fry, with over 15 previously unissued
tracks. Almost every song on this collection is making its vinyl debut.
Included are Lesa Aldridge's take on The Velvet Underground's "After
Hours," and a version of "For You" with vocals from Alex Chilton (songwriter
and Big Star drummer Jody Stephens sang the iconic album version.)
This release is the bridge from the early demos, and the listener can
feel the progression toward what would be listed as one of Rolling
Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time - Big Star's Third.

    I Am The Cosmos

    Clear Colored Vinyl

I Am the Cosmos is an enduring testament to the brilliance of Chris Bell; lyrically poignant and melodically stunning, this lone solo album is proof positive of his underappreciated pop mastery. While cuts like Get Away, I Got Kinda Lost, and Fight at the Table recall the glowing, energetic power pop of Bell's earlier work, the majority of the songs on I Am the Cosmos are more reflective and deeply personal; the title track is a harrowingly schizophrenic tale of romantic despair, while other cuts like the lurching Better Save Yourself and the lovely Look Up are infused with a spiritual power largely missing from his Big Star material.

The album's highlight, You and Your Sister -- which features backing vocals from none other than Bell's Big Star mate Alex Chilton -- is simply one of the great unknown love songs in the pop canon, a luminous and fragile ballad almost otherworldly in its beauty.

Remastered From The Original Source Tapes

On the night of February 13, 1997 Alex Chilton and his band were getting ready to play their second set of the night at the Knitting Factory in New York City when the lights went out. What happened was this album, a spontaneous off the cuff performance by Alex on a borrowed acoustic guitar with his drummer Richard Dworkin sitting in for half the set. Fortunately Jeffrey Vargon was there with his tape deck and microphone.

This is Alex Chilton thinking on his feet, totally in the moment, bouncing songs and ideas off the folks that stuck around for a real one-of-a-kind exchange. This is as close and personal as it gets--anyone who ever saw Alex over the years will recognize the artist who always did it his way in this simple recording--- a surprising amount of country music, some beloved Beach Boys and a few he probably played for the first time that night.

Much of the material will be new to even hard core fans.

    Radio City

Ranked 403/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Although the original members of the Memphis quartet Big Star recorded only the album, #1 Record together and were dissolving rapidly by the time the second, Radio City, was completed, those records have influenced countless 80s and 90s rockers on both sides of the Atlantic, from the Replacements and R.E.M. to Englands Primal Scream and Scotlands Teenage Fanclub. That Big Stars impact should extend so far afield is less surprising in light of the bands own inspirations. Taking the gritty soul of Memphis rhythm and blues and fusing it with the artful melodies and vocal harmonies of British power pop, and injecting it all with a flailing, pre-punk, garage-band energy, Big Star created a unique sound with a universal appeal.

Much of the tension that fueled Big Star's wonderful harmonies apparently came from the undercurrents of competition instilled by the medias perception of Alex Chilton as the leader of the band, one which Chris Bell once steered. Near Christmas of 1972, Bell left the band. Chilton, Hummel and Stephens continued as a trio, but Big Star was clearly on the rocks. They pulled themselves together enough, however, to record 1973's Radio City, which has been called one of rocks most seminal albums, and while Bell was not a formal participant, his lingering spirit is evident in several of the albums 12 tracks.

Only Known, Professionally Filmed Complete Big Star Concert!

The gig poster read: "BIG STAR IN THEIR FAREWELL U.S. PERFORMANCE." Luckily, this iconic Memphis band's homecoming show was
nothing of the kind. As Jody Stephens points out in his liner notes, "We
played Los Angeles three days later and went on to play together for
another 16 years. No one ever said anything about the poster."

Omnivore Recordings is proud to present Big Star's only known professionally filmed show in its entirety. Live In Memphis chronicles that
    October 29, 1994 performance.

Contains Big Star classics like "Thank You Friends," "September Gurls,"
and "The Ballad Of El Goodo," Chris Bell's "I Am The Cosmos," and
covers of T.Rex, The Kinks, Todd Rundgren and more, performed by Big
Star: Alex Chilton, Jody Stephens, and Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow
    from The Posies.

Also included are notes from filmmaker Danny Graflund, Ardent Studios'
John Fry, Jody Stephens, Jon Auer, and Ken Stringfellow. Per Omnivore tradition, the first pressing of the LP
will be 1,000 colored vinyl, with black to follow.

    The Cold Of The Morning

LP Available For The First Time Since 1976!

Sid Selvidge's The Cold Of The Morning is a mid-'70s Memphis classic. And, it almost never saw the light of day.

Recorded in 1975, Selvidge and producer Jim Dickinson (Big Star, Ry Cooder, The Replacements) created a 12-track song cycle, captured live in the
studio with Selvidge on vocals and guitar, plus Dickinson on piano with Memphis' iconic Mudboy and the Neutrons on two tracks. With a cover photo
taken by William Eggleston, it was destined for greatness, but when Peabody Records' benefactor decided not to put the record out at the last minute, he
gave the rights to the recently pressed LP to Selvidge, who drove down to the plant, loaded up his car and distributed them himself. The album eventually
found its way into regional stores and the national press, even reaching the Cashbox charts, and was enough to take Selvidge to New York, but life
intervened, and bigger record deals were not in the cards.

Omnivore Recordings is proud to issue this indelible piece of the Memphis music canon on LP for the first
    time since its initial release.
Consisting of originals, blues standards, and Broadway classics, The Cold Of The Morning, is not only a snapshot of a time and place, but of Selvidge
himself. The package includes rare photographs and an in-depth essay from Bob Mehr of The Commercial Appeal.

Selvidge would eventually turn Peabody into a boutique label, issuing records by Cybil Shepherd, and even Alex Chilton's solo debut, Like Files On
Sherbert. He continued to record, releasing a 1993 album on Elektra and a triumphant swansong, I Should Be Blue, in 2010. But, it all began on The Cold
Of The Morning. "He said, 'Look, I've made my classic record," recalls his son, Steve. "It was almost like he was apart from it. It really was the perfect
capturing of the perfect moment, and it made for his most perfect statement."

    Beale Street Saturday Night

    Clear Vinyl

Memphis' Beale Street had been a hub of music and activity since the
1860s. As it was being plowed under for "urban renewal" in 1976, James
Luther Dickinson-who had played with The Stones, Ry Cooder and the
Flamin' Groovies (later with Bob Dylan and the Cramps among others), as
well as produced Big Star, Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Alex Chilton (also,
The Replacements, Green On Red, and Mudhoney )-decided to not only
celebrate the legacy of great Memphis music, but make it back into the
place where both the blues and rock 'n' roll originated.

A camaraderie of Memphis musicians, photographers, artists, thespians
and "appropriate weirdos" gathered under Dickinson's direction to record
the heart of Beale Street-past and present. From Furry Lewis and Sleepy
John Estes to Sid Selvidge and Dickinson's own Mud Boy & The Neutrons,
Beale Street Saturday Night is an unparalleled audio trip through Memphis
music history. Recorded in places varying from artists' homes, to Ardent
Studios, to The Orpheum Theatre, Beale Street Saturday Night was originally
created as a fundraiser for the Memphis Development Foundation.
This reissue will serve a similar purpose as a portion of the proceeds will
go to support the radio program Beale Street Caravan which focuses on
    Memphis music, new and old.

    Beale Street
Saturday Night features new liners from Jim Lancaster (who worked on
the original issue) and previously unseen photos. This first ever reissue
of Beale Street Saturday Night was done under the supervision and with
the blessing of the Dickinson family, and it finally makes widely available
this important music and historical Memphis document for new audiences
    to discover.

In 1977, Memphis was officially declared "Home of the Blues" by an act
    of Congress. So, welcome home.

    The Psychedelic Ubik

2004's critically acclaimed debut solo album by the enigmatic drummer of Spaceman, Sterling Roswell. Amazing song writing that fuses atmospheric space pop with an acid-laced romp through the annals of rock & roll, reflected in the album's two covers, Alex Chilton's Blue Moon and a variation on 60s garage band The Balloon Farm's Question of Temperature (Ludic Revolution). Out of the past of some parallel universe comes triumphantly the future of underground psych. Produced by Neil Brockbank (Nick Lowe, Bryan Ferry) and also featuring the Time Out Single of the Week Girl>From Orbit.

    IV

New traditionalists Chatham County Line are back with their most ambitious album to date. The North Carolina quartet's fourth album IV, is a boozy blend of Americana and loose acoustic rockers that exhibits the band's ever-evolving style. CCL continues their dedication to traditional instruments by using their love for bluegrass as a base on which to layer an eclectic blend of roots music.

Bluegrass workouts like The Carolinian stand beside pop geared numbers such as Chip of a Star and the hard soul of Birmingham Jail. The progression seen on IV is helped along by indie pop musician and producer Chris Stamey (Yo La Tengo, Alex Chilton, Alejandro Escovedo), making for a starkly heartfelt testament to making the past new again. This is a limited-edition pressing of IV on 180g vinyl.

Let's get down to brass tacks: Ridgewood, NJ's Real Estate took a mighty leap
forward on their last go-around... more record sales... bigger shows... and, more
importantly, a timeless classic of an album, Days. It's been two years since the
release of Days, and it's an album that still sounds as fresh today as it did on
release date. Their new album, Atlas, builds upon the lush guitar warmth of Days
while adding more powerful harmonies and keyboard flourishes bringing even more
    depth to their heart-warming sound.

Atlas was recorded over the summer at Wilco's Chicago recording studio, The Loft,
with producer/mixer Tom Schick (Wilco, Rufus Wainwright, Alex Chilton), and while
this pairing that looks so good on paper, sounds even better on record!
Real Estate kick off the campaign with the dreamy pop single "Talking Backwards,"
which was released as a limited edition 7"at the end of February.

    Carry Me Home

Chicago's The Right Now has soul fans' heads spinning with their 2010 CD release, Carry Me Home. The disc made airplay on Chicago's WXRT, got notices in USA Today, and has fueled non-stop touring nationwide. Along the way the band has performed with kindred spirits Otis Clay, Betty Lavette, Orgone, Nas & Damian Marley, and Mayer Hawthorne. Given the band's devotion to authentic soul music it was inevitable that the road eventually led to Stax Records in Memphis. Legendary Stax engineer Larry Nix (Issac Hayes, Al Green, The Bar-Kays, Alex Chilton) mastered Carry Me Home for vinyl.

Listen to Ain't Going Back, the first track, and you'll know that composer/arranger Brendan O'Connell and The Right Now make aggressively authentic soul. Lead guitarist Chris Corsale alternates muscle car rhythms with sublime conterpoints to O'Connell's hooks. The horns are fountain pen strikes on fresh paper. O'Connell's organ is an asylum of emotion. These are all platforms for Stefanie Berecz's vocals, a voice that balances restraint and full out leaps from the rooftop. These are songs written the way the greatest soul music has always been written, now mastered the very same way.

    The Grace EP's (Box Set)

180 Gram 5 LP Box Set

Includes a Full Color Jacket, A Double Sided Full Color Insert and a 12mm Spined Outer Sleeve.

Music On Vinyl is proudly re-releasing The Jeff Buckley Grace EPs on vinyl. This unique package contains 5 180g 12 vinyl records each in their own full colour jacket, a double sided full colour insert and a 12mm spined outer sleeve.

In the space of one studio album, and a number of recorded live performances, Jeff Buckley managed to carve out a global cult following. With so little studio output available, fans of Jeff Buckley have inevitably been drawn back time and time again to the masterpiece that is Grace, becoming familiar with every detail of every song.

The five discs that make up The Grace EPs are a collection of live performances and a few studio versions from songs that appeared on Buckley's seminal debut album. A few b-sides are also included. Indeed two of these (Peyote Radio Theatre and So Real) were promotional-only releases that weren't commercially available. The others were rare imports: Last Goodbye came out in Japan, Live From the Bataclan in France, and The Grace EP in Australia.

Jeff Buckley toured the globe extensively, performing countless shows in support of his music.
The Grace EPs capture some of the majesty of his stage presence. So what of the music contained here? First of all this is no skimpy collection - adding up to more than two hours even though there are just three to five songs on each disc. The perfect supplement to the Grace album, it contains live versions (sometimes more than one) of five songs from that record, as well as a few edit versions, a Nag Champa Mix of Dream Brother, and a 13- minute live 'Chocolate Version' of Mojo Pin.

Perhaps more interesting to collectors will be a few cover tunes not on Grace: a whopping 12-minute version of Van Morrison's The Way Young Lovers Do, a medley of Je N'En Connais Pas la Fin/Hymne A l'Amour, Hank Williams's Lost Highway, and a 14-minute take on Alex Chilton's Kanga-Roo. And there is, finally, a bonus track added to the The Grace EP (the only song in the package not on the original EPs), Tongue, a spooky ambient 11-minute studio instrumental.

If you're a devoted Buckley-phile, this set is for you. It's beautifully put together, with crisp sound quality in the live performances, and captures Buckley's tremendous flair for stage improvisation.

    2) Dream Brother (Nag Champa Mix)

    Soft Connections

In 2005, at the age of 14, Nic Hessler created the alias Catwalk to write, record and
perform his music. Armed with Wipers and Roy Orbison records, an 8-track recorder and a
garage, Nic set out to make Catwalk the next great guitar-oriented California band like many
teenagers before him. Two tiny run 7" singles on the now defunct Yay! imprint soon appeared,
making the rounds through independent record stores and mail order distributors. This led to
the 18-year-old Nic to sign to the also new and young label, Captured Tracks. Two C/T 7"
releases in 2010 and 2011 followed, leading up to a full-fledged Catwalk LP and tour in 2011.
Press reaction was swift and, as interest was grew, Nic garnered support in his hometown of
Orange County, CA to assemble a tour line-up for the LP. However, none of that would ever
    happen.

Around this time, Nic was struck with an ailment that kept him sidelined for quite sometime:
Guillain-BarrÉ Syndrome. No walk in the park, GBS prevented Nic from playing guitar,
leaving him partially paralyzed for the bulk of this lost period. While this was obviously detrimental
for Nic and Catwalk, strangely, it may have helped the musician Nic Hessler's career.

Now ditching the moniker of a hypothetical band, Nic re-emerges in 2015, healthy and reinvigorated,
with a more fully-formed and ambitious sound: the sound of Soft Connections, his
debut LP years in the making, though he's now just 23. Soft Connections bridges the songwriting
influences of the vintage American powerpop of Emmit Rhodes and Alex Chilton, along
with UK giants like The Kinks and XTC. Tracks like Hearts, Repeating and I Feel Again-two
classic singles in the radio sense of the word-show the maturity in craftsmanship Nic's been
    honing these past four years.

The making of Soft Connections was a lengthy process that took place during a crucial period
of musical growth and self-exploration. It's an optimistic and introspective record about being
in-and-out of feeling - on the brink of a personal breakthrough, yet still seeking direction,
purpose, truth and permanence. Anchored by the Catwalk favorite (Please) Don't Break
Me - a song that, at one point, could very well have launched Nic into indie celebdom -
this record is now a send-off to Nic's lost time; he's moved forward, sounding better than ever
and ready to soundtrack your long road trip or failed crush. This will be the first record in what
we all hope to be a lengthy string of great albums.

    1. I Feel Again
    2. Hearts, Repeating

For his eighth studio record Chuck Prophet relocated to Nashville and bedded down for a month at the Alex the Great Recording Studios with producer Brad Jones (Yo La Tengo, Dolly Parton, Josh Rouse). Chuck is joined here by his own band The Mission Express, Todd Roper (of Cake) on drums and The Spinto Band. They even brought in the local Methodist children's church choir for a few tunes. Soap and Water sees him blending his twisted soul-country-rock; a Alex Chilton-meets-Waylon Jennings via Dylan thing, with that Fender Telecaster he's had since his Green On Red days weaving a singular common thread throughout.
