Ranked 108/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

It's difficult for American listeners to remember this, but like the recordings of the Beatles and nearly all other British groups of the '60s, the Rolling Stones' first several albums did not make it across the Atlantic in one piece. Prior to ABKCO's comprehensive 2002 reissue program, the US versions of the Stones' early albums were the de facto standards, but particularly in the case of 1966's AFTERMATH, the UK album was very different.

The track lineup is shuffled and expanded to create a much different mood. Paint It Black is gone, replaced as the opening track by the snotty social commentary of Mother's Little Helper, which--when followed by Stupid Girl, Lady Jane, Under My Thumb, and Dontcha Bother Me--is like a pentathlon of punky misogyny capped by the grinding blues jam Goin' Home. Side Two is more emotionally varied but just as musically far-reaching, adding the poppy Take It Or Leave It and What To Do to an already strong set of tunes centered on the stunning full-length version of Out of Time that for some reason had never been released in the United States before this belated reissue.

    Marshall Mathers

Ranked 302/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Eminem's masterful second record has the chops and the credentials to go along with it. The Marshall Mathers LP won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, The Real Slim Shady won the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance and the record was also nominated for the Grammy for Album Of The Year. Expanding upon his debut, Eminem's follow-up is both funnier and darker than his debut and the production is nearly as evocative as the raps, with liquid basslines, stuttering rhythms, slight sound effects and spacious soundscapes. Reissued here on Double Vinyl LP by Universal Records.

    Relapse

Anticipation for Eminem's new studio album Relapse has been building since the fall, when the hip hop superstar first announced the album title and debuted the freestyle, I'm Having A Relapse, during an interview on his Shade 45 satellite radio station. The release of Crack A Bottle from Eminem, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent brought that anticipation to a head. The track soared to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Eminem's second #1 after 2002's Lose Yourself) and set a Nielsen SoundScan record for opening week download sales. Crack A Bottle will be included as an album track on Relapse.

With the announcement of the release date for Relapse also comes confirmation of something that had been rumored in recent weeks: Eminem is already working on a follow-up album, Relapse 2, that fans can expect in the second half of 2009. A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year, explains Eminem. I was one of them. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.

    Before I Self-Destruct

With his fourth studio album Before I Self-Destruct, 50 Cent promises it will revolutionize hip-hop, that it will be the culminating statement of the first phase of his music career, and that it is a companion piece to his first feature directing effort. He describes the album as being darker and more aggressive, with fewer guest appearances and a concept that will set the next phase of his musical career. Get Up, the first single, was produced by Scott Storch.

    Curtain Call: The Hits

Eminem's four studio albums shattered so many sales records that you might think just about every man, woman and gerbil on the planet already owns a bulk of the songs that make up this greatest hits collection. But Curtain Call presents the perfect opportunity to have another look at the life of Marshall Mathers. Starting out in the vein of the Beastie Boys and Slick Rick, he grafted filthy verses over bubbly nursery rhyme melodies and primitive Casio beats to come up with comical singles like 'My Name Is' and 'Real Slim Shady.' Then angst and reflection set in, resulting in rare moments of vulnerability ('Lose Yourself') and a richer musical experience ('Stan'). The three new tracks reflect the entire spectrum, with 'When I'm Gone,' a bittersweet goodbye letter, signaling the raw emotion and youthful enthusiasm of his early days have substantially faded, while 'Fack' counters that the Detroit rapper still has the dirtiest mouth in the business.

    Recovery

Recovery, the much-anticipated new album from Eminem, features an exciting list of collaborators, including DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin and Boi-1da, Dr. Dre and Havoc. The album comes on the heels of his 2009 release, Relapse which put the cap on an impressive ten years of recorded output, and contributed to him being the biggest selling artist of the last decade. It also earned Eminem his 11th Grammy award, winning in the Best Rap Album category.

I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year. But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title. - Eminem

    Bo Diddley's A Twister

Originally Released On Checker In 1962

Everybody, so it seemed, recorded a twist album in the aftermath of Chubby Checkers twice chart topping hit single. New and established artists alike rushed into the studio to record albums as quickly as possible before the fad ended. According to the original sleevenotes for Bo Diddleys A Twister, Bo was recording twist music a good five years before it became popular. That may well be so, but even he was not above recording one entirely dedicated song in The Twister for his latest album, as well as revisiting Who Do You Love from 1957 and giving it a new arrangement.

    Greatest Hits: Volume 2

While 2 Live Crew are certainly associated with a moment in time, Luke and company's body of work is surprisingly deep. More a re-examination of their entire career than a bookend to its first part, GREATEST HITS Volume 2 contains both the Miami bass troupe's top 40 hits, the signature track Me So Horny, and the biography of its aftermath Banned in the U.S. A. This collection digs further into the 2 Live Crew catalog, which includes minor hits such as the Manfred Mann sampling Do Wah Diddy and the Clinton Scandal reworking of the act's biggest hit, Bill So Horny, a true timepiece.

    Los Angeles

In the aftermath of the Los Angeles LP, Flying Lotus set out his stall at the vanguard of new bass music, remixed the likes of Stereolab and Radiohead and became a regular fixture in 2008's end of year polls.

Now, with L.A. EP 3 X 3, the third and final piece of the accompanying EP series, FlyLo and a few friends explore the psychedelic ambience and dream-like elegance that brought such a vital depth to the album's soul.

Two new Flying Lotus compositions, Endless White and Spin Cycles display his deft touch and unrivalled eye for beauty. Breakage's Testament turns Gonjasufi's quiet desperation into a tribal battle cry. But it is perhaps the collaboration with harpist Rebecca Raff that is most striking, revisioning Auntie's Harp into a swirling symphony of rolling arpeggios and piercing electronics.
