    Analog Drive System (ADS)

The ADS design includes two pure analog frequency generators featuring low distortion and noise; a high current Class-A/B amplifier that is transformer-coupled to the turntable output; analog control logic for low noise operation; 33/45 RPM analog speed adjustment controls with center detent positions that are factory calibrated for 60/81Hz; analog logic controlled run/stop switching with the output RMS voltage @ 120VAC on startup, followed by a step down to 90VAC after an 8-second delay for quick starting of heavy platters.

    Operational features

The ADS includes a lighted power on/off switch allowing it to remain powered up during listening sessions for the oscillators to remain warmed up for lowest distortion. There is a separate run/stop switch to control the motor operation. The ADS also utilizes separate 60 Hz and 81 Hz oscillators to eliminate unnecessary switching circuitry in the oscillator circuits for long term speed stability and low oscillator distortion. Turntable speed is chosen using a switch located between the 33 RPM and 45 RPM speed adjustment controls; LEDs indicate the Run/Stop condition and chosen speed. Speed adjustment controls provide a center detent position that is factory calibrated to 60 and 81Hz +/- .02 Hz in their center detented position. The controls also provide fine speed adjustment of approximately 3 Hz through continuously variable linear adjustment controls. The circuitry provides a startup voltage of approximately 120VAC for 8 seconds on startup to assist quick speed ramp of heavier platters, then reduces to 92VAC for its steady state run voltage.

    Speed Control and adjustment

The front panel contains a two-position push-button switch for selecting either 33 RPM or 45 RPM operation. Pressing the switch either latches it in or releases the switch to its outward position for 33 RPM operation. There are separate speed adjustment controls for 33 and 45 RPM. The controls have a detented center position that is factory calibrated for 60 Hz (33 RPM) and 81 Hz (45 RPM). The speed is also continuously adjustable +/- 3 Hz for fine tuning of the platter speed using a stroboscopic disk and 60 HZ light source. Blue LED indicators adjacent to the controls indicate which speed is set at a glance.

    Motor Stop and Run

The ADS is meant to be left powered on during the listening session. The platter is started and stopped by the front panel Run/Stop momentary push-button switch. There is an LED indicator the glows red when stopped and green when the platter is turning.

    System power

There is an IEC power module on the rear panel to supply AC power to the ADS. The IEC module contains a fuse drawer that holds a 1-amp slow blow fuse protecting the ADS from electrical system malfunctions.

AC power to the ADS is controlled by the power switch located on the left-hand side of the front panel. When the ADS is powered up, the indicator in the switch glows blue indicating the internal power supplies are functioning properly.

    Output to Turntable

The 125 VAC max output to the motor is supplied by the identified AC receptacle on the rear panel. The receptacle output provides a maximum 20 watts. Higher wattage loads will seriously damage the ADS.

How did a Wisconsin chair company, producing records on the cheap and run by men with little knowledge of their audience or the music business, build one of the greatest musical rosters ever assembled under one roof? The answer lies in 'The Rise and Fall of Paramount Records 1917-1932,' an epic, two-volume omnibus of art, words and music housed in a limited-edition, hand-sculpted cabinet-of-wonder, to be jointly released by Jack White's Third Man Records and John Fahey's Revenant Records.

'Volume One,' which covers the label's improbable rise from 1917-1927, will be released exclusively through Third Man on October 29, and worldwide on November 19. The project is co-produced by leading Paramount authority Alex van der Tuuk, and 'Volume 2' will be released in November 2014.

Paramount Records was founded on a modest proposition: produce records as cheaply as possible, recording whatever talent was available. Over its lifetime, the label would become a "race records" powerhouse, its sound and fortunes directly linked to the Great Migration.

By the time Paramount ceased operations in 1932, it had compiled a dizzying array of performers still unrivaled to this day, spanning early jazz titans (Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller), blues masters (Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Son House, Skip James), American divas (Ma Rainey, Alberta Hunter, Ethel Waters), gospel (Norfolk Jubilee Quartette), vaudeville (Papa Charlie Jackson), and the indefinable "other" (Geeshie Wiley, Elvie Thomas). Paramount would also directly influence the style of Robert Crumb and countless other 20th century artists and illustrators, through a series of hand-drawn ads promoting its releases in the pages of the Chicago Defender.

The 'Rise and Fall' wonder-cabinet gives equal status to page-turning narrative and new scholarship; original and newly created graphic art; industrial design; and compelling analog and digital music experiences.

6 LPs feature 87 tracks from the collection.

USB Drive contains 800 digital tracks by 172 artists across the Paramount family of labels, including the earliest recordings of:
King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton, Blind Blake, Fats Waller, Ma Rainey, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Fletcher Henderson, Alberta Hunter, Papa Charlie Jackson, Ethel Waters, Coleman Hawkins, Johnny and Baby Dodds, Bo Weavil Jackson, Jimmy O'Bryant, Buddy Boy Hawkins, Tiny Parham, Jimmy Blythe, and Jaybird Coleman.

    Ad Infinitum

When it came time to make Ad Infinitum, the fourth Telekinesis album, drummer/songwriter/principal architect Michael Lerner found himself in a predicament. In just under five years, he had released three fantastic records-Telekinesis! (2009), 12 Desperate Straight Lines (2011), and Dormarion (2013)-each more ambitious than the last. He had toured all over the world, shared stages with great bands, and enthralled fans of his infectious, ebullient power pop.

Newly married and happily ensconced in the home studio he'd assembled in his West Seattle basement, Lerner found himself asking the question that has haunted modestly successful bands down the ages: What do you do after the rock and roll dreams you had when you were 19 have come true? "I went down to the basement," Lerner recalls, "and started playing the same chords I always play I just felt like I'd exhausted everything I knew. I was not excited at all. I just could not make another power-pop album." While many artists have made fruitful use of vintage sounds and production techniques in recent years, Ad Infinitum is a different animal.

It feels less like a time capsule and more like a time machine. In the movie version of the story, Lerner would stumble on his way down the stairs, hit his head, and wake up in 1983, and the only way he could get back to the present day would be to make a record using available instruments. Then he'd wake in 2015 to discover he'd been in his basement studio all along. And the record he'd made in that strange dream state would turn out to be Ad Infinitum, the most ambitious and assured Telekinesis release to date.

Adding Up the Wasted Hours, the band's fourth album, was announced in August of 2013. Released through Trans/Chop Shop Records on October 15, the new 11-track record was recorded by Chris Walla.

Chris Walla, guitarist and producer for Grammy-nominated rock band Death Cab for Cutie, made The Lonely Forest his first signing when he launched his
label Trans. The band started a national fall headline tour, beginning in Wenatchee, WA and closing at the Neptune Theater in Seattle, WA. It was also promoted by the lead single Warm/Happy, which Van Deusen described as ...a self-assuring song.

    How We Lost

How We Lost is actually a celebratory album. It's a reflective record and, in its own way, celebrates the Windsor For The Derby continuum that's been culled from their first release, Calm Hades Float in 1996 to their last, Giving Up the Ghost from 2005. Each of these recordings is a sequel to the next both musically and in narrative, especially since the band found themselves in constant dialogue about their body of work and the paths they'
d chosen due to the rerelease of their first two records Calm Hades Float and Minnie Greutzfeldt. Also a part of that ongoing dialogue were the records that the band found itself consistently re-visiting, Swell Maps, Section 25, Psychic TV and what it was that made those recordings timeless and resonate in a personal way to the band. The songs on How We Lost is about the ways they've changed over the years, the things they hold onto and what's been left behind.

Catfish Haven's Devastator is in the spirit of Kiss' Destroyer, ZZ Top's Eliminator and Lou Reed's Transformer. The bands blues-infused ballads and boozy trots possess equal amounts of backwoods authenticity and cosmopolitan flair. They may harvest most of their mojo from south of the Mason Dixon, but they bleed metropolitan with undeniable garage-grime charm and power-pop arrangements. Catfish Haven's unclassifiable, yet broad appeal, is evidenced here by DevastatorÆs in the pocket title track, the organic glitterball jam ôSet In Stoneö and the bittersweet barn burner ôFull Speed.ö

    Odd Blood

Since the release of their critically acclaimed 2007 debut All Hour Cymbals, Yeasayer has been around the world and back again. While their first record was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. Inspired by musicians hell-bent on sonic experimentation as well as those more comfortable in a pop context, Yeasayer find their domain spanning across the musical spectrum. Studied, road worn, and eager to begin phase two, Yeasayer retreated to upstate New York to begin work on their new album titled ODD BLOOD.

If All Hour Cymbals was Yeasayer's attempt at global and ambient cultural mash-up then ODD BLOOD takes place in an off-world colony sometime after the Singularity. Glimmering reverb haze is eschewed and replaced by a cavalcade of disorienting pitch effects and flickering ectoplasmic wisps. Instead of layered vocal harmonies the processed vocals congeal into blots and blobs of otherworldly chatter. Many organic elements are left behind and replaced by sounds and rhythms that inspire the body as much as the mind. At times Yeasayer sound as if they would be at home playing live in scene from Blade Runner or inside one of Oscar Neimeyer's concrete modernist temples from the 1960s.

ODD BLOOD is an album divided into two halves; the first being top heavy with pop songs, while the latter full of the playful and strange.

Side One. The album begins with The Children, a twisted chopped and screwed stomp, full of sub bass and spooky keyboards. Distorted vocals create hidden hooks and it's immediately clear: this isn't the same Yeasayer. After the rubble clears the album leaps into Yeasayer's version of the pop anthem with Ambling Alp, Madder Red, I Remember, and O.N.E. Yeasayer have plunged into the craft of pop music, and the exercise has paid off.

Side Two. The second half of ODD BLOOD is slightly more experimental in nature. Sci-fi musical jams (Mondegreen), maniacal rants (Grizelda), and paranoia (Love Me Girl) show the band exploring more paranoid motifs, yet never deprive the listener of hooks and ear candy.

ODD BLOOD plays out at a blistering pace, yet it never sacrifices depth or content. It is immediately evident the band has advanced in songwriting as well as sonic craft. Lyrically, it is a more mature and honest album than the first, as the band demonstrates a confidence to explore more personal themes alongside vividly depicted tales. One thing is certain: Yeasayer are accomplished audiologists who are willing to pilfer decades of pop sensibilities and cultural history to create something that is uniquely their own.

    Saint Bartlett

Saint Bartlett opens up with a grandiosity yet unheard on a Damien Jurado album. The album strips away the many layers of paint from the house down the street we know Jurado has occupied for the last decade. The new coat is exhilarating. It makes the whole neighborhood shine. It's a modest grandiosity; still homegrown. The mellotron swells, heavenly handclaps ring in stereo and big drums create a sky for the songs to fly in. And the words. Words spring forth from within the volcano of Jurado, full of hope. There's so much hope, in fact, that album opener Cloudy Shoes turns into a call-and-response with himself, as though it were a dialogue between two halves of himself.

Richard Swift's Spector-esque production is spot-on. He ferries Jurado across theriver, where the metamorphosis occurs. He then ferries him back, and it is through Swift's lens that we see Jurado not as a folk singer, but as a mystic somewhere between Van Morrison, Scott Walker and Wayne Coyne. Saint Bartlett was made entirely at Swift's National Freedom studio in Oregon, in just under a week with only Jurado and Swift as the performers.

    JJ No 3

jj create R&B and balearic dub from the ghosts of lost lovers; pop as delicate as a fawn's nose across blades of frosted grass. It is the soundtrack for friends packed into the town square's tiniest tavern, their moontanned, apple-cheeked faces glowing, their dilated pupils filled with all the meaning and meaninglessness of a magic 8-ball. Their music is both carefree without carelessness, and self-aware without being self-conscious. With it, they build an ice bridge arching from Gothenburg into the heart of middle America, and everywhere in between.

    I Am A Bird Now

This second full-length features contributions from both Antony's peers (Rufus Wainwright, Devendra Banhart) and heroes (Lou Reed, Boy George). Their involvement reflects both their admiration for Antony and his unique place in the contemporary arts community. Reed asked Antony to perform as part of the small ensemble on Reed's American and European tours, and he gave Antony a solo turn on the Velvet Underground classic Candy Says, an homage to another one of Antony's inspirations, Andy Warhol. In fact, the image adorning the cover of this album is Peter Hujar's striking 1974 photo, Candy Darling On Her Deathbed. Like some unsettling ghost relative of Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday singing for all the fallen, this is tough, honest, uncompromising beauty and the next great voice in music - Mojo. If a great voice is often said to be an instrument, Antony's is a near orchestra, carrying extremes of emotion, great waves of suffering, tragedy, redemption, and joy - Metro. Another World

Antony & The Johnsons emerged on the international stage in 2005 with their breakthrough "I Am A Bird Now" (over 700,000 RTD worldwide). His first new material since 2006 is a prelude to the new full-length, "The Crying Light", coming in January 2009. Of the project, Antony said, "I wanted to mark this moment very clearly in my life. I love and feel so anchored by the natural world, which gave birth to me, which supplies and supports my life, this experience of color and light and aching beauty. But the world is changing so fast now. 'Another World' is a song for the present but also a song for the future. What have I lost? And what is to come?"

    Night Falls Over Kortedala

Like a modern day Chet Baker, Jens loves to sing about heartache. This is his first album in over three years, and Kortedala refers to a neighborhood in his hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden - a depressing suburban hell. It also refers to a vague musical pop sound with hints of tropicalia that has been coming out of Gothenburg's clubs the last few years. Night Falls Over Kortedala features many previously unreleased live favorites and guest vocals from label-mate Frida Hyvonen and El Perro del Mar.

    Mystery

With a wrecking crew rhythm section, debonair vocals, and guitar concoction of one part shred and two parts soul, Blk Jks shoot an African music sensibility through the tenets of rock. It's easy to politicize them. Here's a band that's instantly young, black and fly even as they reclaim styles that have been stolen, watered down, and regurgitated for generations. And yet to get caught up in anything but their sound is to sell this phenomenon short, because as musicians - as artists - Blk Jks simply cook.

    A Certain Feeling

Their second full-length, and first release for Secretly Canadian, features instantly familiar melodies, rich harmonic color, expansively deft arrangements, and compositions that ebb, flow, and double back on themselves in cathartic synchronicity. It comes out feeling like the anthemic prog/gospel/psychedelic/kraut-tribal movie score that Ennio Morricone and Phil Spector never got around to collaborating on.

    Tell Me

Their Secretly Canadian debut is one hell of a break-up record. Love is a confusing thing and it always leaves the mind with more questions than answers. Tell Me captures the confusion, denial, sleepless nights, and the desperate pleas for love that can only be felt when the mind gives up control to the heart. Catfish Haven are amongst the few bands that can command a stage; keep a crowd up with a high energy live performance and still deliver such heartache.

    Against Love (On Sale)

For their latest outing, Windsor For The Derby began with a set of seemingly infinite drones and loops inspired by their early beginnings as a band. As those recordings were passed back and forth, the sounds were further sculpted by Dan Matz and Jason McNeely into their own left field brand of pop song. This became Against Love.

While they experimented with more formalized rock structures on their past few albums, Against Love finds the balance between experimentation and rock traditionmore heavily skewed toward the former. The songs are filled with tried & true conventions; some with pedal steel and acoustic guitar (Dull Knives, After Love), and others in waves of warm feedback and synth (Queen of the Sun, Autumn Song). Lyrically the songs are about how the modern world is changing the human condition, how we decide to land when the floor is pulled out from under us, and how hope is born from loss. The songs were shaped over months in backstage rooms, hotels, vans, and wherever else Matz and McNeely found time during WFTDs European and American tours of the past two years. Tracks were finalized in Matzs haunted Hope Union Studio, where disengaged clock chimes, spectral taps, and mysterious footsteps are a constant cause for another take; some left in the mix.

    Ships

The sixth and most accessible album to date, featuring a star-studded cast of players including Deerhoof, Sufjan Stevens, Sereena-Maneesh, and more. What began as a senior thesis project a decade ago has evolved into a musical world so rich with musicality and merrymaking that the first six albums and ten years of touring pomp alone could nourish the most scrutinizing of thrill-seekers. There's no hard distinction between the visuals (costumes and graphics) and the music from this suburban New Jersey group. One enters your heart through your eyes, one through your ears, says Daniel. On tour May through September throughout the US.
