    Stereophile

For record cleaning and effective static control.

Dissipate static and wipe away harmful dust, lint and dirt with one simple stroke of this handle-held large brush. Unlike some record brushes, this model fits across the entire radius of a 12-inch LP. Its bristles are made of a unique blend of soft natural hairs and conductive synthetic fibers that result in effective static dissipation. Packaged in a re-sealable pouch. For use on LPs, film, glass, plastics and negatives.

This large-handled brush has soft bristles of both natural hairs and conductive synthetic fibers, and makes dusting LPs nearly foolproof.

    AcousTech Electronic Stylus Force Gauge

    Editors Editors Editors

The Deluxe AcousTech gauge is set apart from the standard version by a full metal casing, AAA battery support, and a deluxe storage case. Includes mini screwdriver and calibration weight.

The AcousTech gauge will accurately read your tracking force within 0.002 grams, the finest reading available. Many imitators only read accuracy of 0.01 grams.

Accurate and simple to use - that's the essence of a great stylus force gauge, and that's what you get with this AcousTech model. We all know, or certainly we all should know, that dialing in your correct tracking force is absolutely essential for optimal record playback. If you miss on the heavy side, your sound becomes thick and sluggish. Miss on the light side, and your cartridge is more likely to mistrack and the sound will be light and anemic.
So stop messing with those mechanical stylus balances that aren't even accurate. This is one case where digital makes more sense when it comes to fine-tuning your analog.

Van Morrison's 1968 release, Astral Weeks remains not only his masterpiece, but one of the greatest records ever made. The haunting, deeply personal collection of impressionistic folk styled epics was recorded with an all star jazz backing unit that included bassist Richard Davis and drummer Connie May and its absolutely awash in overwhelming emotional beauty. The poetic complexity of the material combined with Morrison's vocal dexterity and passion make it one of those rare albums for which the word timeless is not only appropriate but inescapable.

Donald Johanos conducts the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Little needs to be said about this audiophile classic. Known for its demonstration qualities with very low, deep bass and overall smooth and warm sound. Mastered at AcousTech by Kevin Gray and pressed on virgin vinyl at Pallas in Germany.

The tape recording was made at a speed of 30 inches-per-second, using a transport modified to produce exceptionally good motion: a specially developed constant-velocity recording curve was employed for improved signal-to-noise ratio. The lacquer masters were made directly from the original tape, thus avoiding further transfer degradation. The result is a recording of exceptional clarity, naturalness and freedom from vices prevalent generally in the art. - original liner notes

1968's Puttin' It Together finds Elvin Jones stepping out from under John Coltrane's giant shadow with an impressive trio session featuring Jimmy Garrison on bass and a young Joe Farrell on tenor, soprano sax and flute. The energy driven approach here makes strong use of Jones' work on the drum kit and the soulful undercurrents of Garrison's bass, while Farrell tops things off with his angular, effortlessly-blown lines.

Bang Your Head: Band's Classic Album Mastered from the Original Master Tapes by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at Acoustech

Come On, Feel the Noize: Multi-Platinum Hard-Rock Landmark Filled With Great Hooks and Endless Fun

Features Special Gatefold Album Cover With All Original Graphics

Quiet Riot broke through the mainstream with its mega-platinum smash Metal Health album in 1983, which became the first metal-oriented album to hit #1 on the Billboard charts. The hard-working Los Angeles power quartet featured the great vocals and writing of frontman Kevin Dubrow, bassist extraordinaire Rudy Sarzo, power drummer Frank Banali, and guitar shredder Carlos Cavazo. Together, they delivered the goods in a big way, making Metal Health a classic whose appeal spans multiple genres and generations.

Thanks in part to the amazing smash cover version of Slades Cum On Feel The Noize, Metal Health was and still is a fixture at radio and retail. The LP is jam packed with stellar arena anthems including the head-banging title track Metal Health, most recently used in the opening sequence of the award-winning film The Wrestler starring Mickey Rourke. Plus, radio-driven rockers like Loves A Bitch, the amazing Breathless, and the blues-oriented Dont Want To Let You Go add variety. Friday Music is proud to be the home of this 180g audiophile vinyl limited-edition edition.

For this limited edition release, Friday Music has gone back to the original Pasha Records/Epic Records tapes, which have been impeccably mastered by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray at AcousTech/RTI. Included is a very limited gatefold album cover with all of the original graphics. This is a much welcomed audiophile dream for the heavy rocker in all of us.

    Jimmy Reed At Carnegie Hall

Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall was the first blues album to truly cross over and influence a whole generation and continues to spread its influence today. Everyone from Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and countless others, were influenced by Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall. This album includes all of his greatest hits. Jimmy not only had hits on the R&B charts but also crossed over 11 times on Billboards Hot 100, unheard of for a blues musician. This is not a live recording. Rather, Jimmy Reed recorded in Carnegie Hall the same set list he had performed there just a night or two previously.

Mastered at AcousTech by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman.

Analogue Productions' cleanly pressed 45rpm version of Reed's most famous release is not the first audiophile edition. Mobile Fidelity released a fine-sounding gold disc in the '90s, and Audio Fidelity recently transferred it onto SACD. But there's magic lurking within these grooves that digital has never fully reproduced; the album has never sounded better. Reed's lazy rhythmic sway, loose-limbed strumming, and unmannered singing fill the soundstage...Guitar timbres teem with purity, and there's ample separation between Reed's elementary harmonica solos and Earl Phillips' rocking-chair percussion. While the album has never been a dynamic standout, it's hard to imagine a future incarnation getting more from the music. - Bob Gendron, The Absolute Sound, April/May 2005

Remastered from the Original Analog Tapes by Kevin Grey at Acoustech and Pressed on 180g RTI Vinyl! True Audiophile-Quality!

A moment in rock & roll history, unearthed! In April of 1968, after leaving Buffalo Springfield, but before joining CSN, Stephen Stills found himself in a New York recording session with then girlfriend Judy Collins. Stills wandered down the hall with an engineer and an acoustic guitar, and laying down a couple hundred-dollar bills, told the engineer Just roll tape. What he recorded in the ensuing hours was the first ever versions of what would become classics for Stephen Stills, CSN, CSNY and Manassas. Almost 40 years later the tapes, rescued decades ago from a garbage bin, are finally remastered and being released to the public. Includes the first recordings of the future CSN hits Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, Helplessly Hoping and Wooden Ships, as well as demos of Stills' solo classics Change Partners, Black Queen, and Know You Got To Run, and Manassas So Begins The Task.

    The Nylon Curtain

1982's The Nylon Curtain was a tremendous and resounding success for Billy Joel. Boasting a ton of hit singles and huge radio activity for the better part of the year, this legendary artist truly hit his stride with this amazing release.

With stunning hits like Allentown and Pressure maneuvering this fine album to the top of the charts, The Nylon Curtain showed the highly creative mind of Billy Joel, as the orchestrations, the melodies and the lyrical setting made this one of his most important recordings of his four decade career. Incredible tracks filled this Phil Ramone produced album such as the the AOR classic Goodnight Saigon, his Christmas fan favorite She's Right On Time, as well as the melancholy closer Where's The Orchestra with its surprise ending.

As part of the extensive Billy Joel 180g Audiophile Series on Friday Music, both Joe Reagoso of Friday Music and Kevin Gray from AcousTech have gone back to the original Columbia Records analog tapes and have mastered another winning audiophile release. Pressed at RTI in conjunction with Sony Music, The Nylon Curtain just fills the room with all the excitement and sonic delivery you would expect from this legendary artist.

    Just One Of Those Things

Contrasting downbeat ballads with an ironic brassy, upbeat big band attitude, the ironic Cole Porter standard Just One Of Those Things sets the tone for a distinctive, pungent experience of love and disillusionment with a swing. Brilliantly backing the intimately expressive and supremely musical voice of the incomparable Nat King Cole, a big band with no strings smolders, swings, saunters, storms, sighs and sizzles with the arrangements of the distinctive Billy May. Featuring top shelf interpretations of These Foolish Things, Who's Sorry Now? The Party's Over and more, this album is among its era's finest recordings of popular music and its quality, style and spirit remains unexcelled.

Using the original 3-track session tapes from Capitol's vaults and all-analogue systems including custom headstacks, 3-track preview heads, console and monitoring chain installed at AcousTech specially for these releases, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman realize the stunning beauty of these recordings. A superb track recorded for the album, You'll Never Know, which was omitted due to space constraints, is included in this double 45-RPM 180-gram album set. Included with this deluxe reissue is a striking six-panel booklet complete with rare photos, a 2,200-word essay by Jordan Taylor on the album and a 1,200-word essay by Michael Fremer about the remastering process. This truly is a no-expenses-spared project, resulting in the ultimate version of this title and a historic reissue.

    Swing, Swang, Swingin'

Prior to 1959, Jackie McLean was an important young Turk whose sharp tone and intense style on alto grew out of Charlie Parker yet were very much his own. Growing up in New York, his neighbors included such friends as Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins. By 1951 he was recording with Miles Davis and other associations in the 1950s included Charles Mingus and two years with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. But all of that was a prelude to his recording 21 brilliant, explorative and frequently explosive albums for Blue Note during 1959-67. While McLean became one of the first jazz musicians of his generation to stretch beyond hard bop into freer explorations inspired by Ornette Coleman, Swing, Swang, Swingin' is a straight ahead affair in which he mostly puts his stamp on standards. Few versions of Let's Face The Music And Dance and I Love You have ever had this much intensity and, when McLean digs into the ballad What's New, he gives it a fiery passion that had never been heard before. Jackie McLean not only swings and swangs but he burns with the urgency, agony and ecstasy of the 1960s.

    Where Did Everyone Go?

In what some consider his last great album prior to his tragic passing, Nat King Cole approached the dramatic dark side of love in the spirit of Sinatra's saloon songs to timeless, haunting effect with the album Where Did Everyone Go? The distinctive orchestrations of Gordon Jenkins for strings accompany the intimately expressive and supremely musical voice of the incomparable Nat King Cole in such classic songs as Someone To Tell It To, I Keep Going Back To Joe's, Spring Is Here, The End Of A Love Affair and other reflections of one who had and now has not. Nat King Cole and arranger Gordon Jenkins followed their hit albums Love Is The Thing and The Very Thought Of You with this striking shift toward the dramatic. The result again stands among its era's finest, most stylistically defining recordings of popular music and still retains its grand sense of tragedy and beauty.

Using the original first generation 3-track session tapes from Capitol's vaults and all-analogue systems including custom headstacks, 3-track preview heads, console and monitoring chain installed at AcousTech specially for these releases, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman realize the stunning beauty of these recordings. Two bonus tracks recorded for the album, A Farewell to Arms and Happy New Year, are included in this double 45-RPM 180-gram album set for their first release in original production quality. Included with this deluxe reissue is a striking six-panel booklet complete with rare photos, a 3,200-word essay by Chris Hall on the album and a 1,200-word essay by Michael Fremer about the remastering process. This truly is a no-expenses-spared project, resulting in the ultimate version of this title and a historic reissue.
