    The Sign

The Sign is a 1993 album by Swedish pop group Ace of Base, originally released as the band's debut album in North America, Japan, and some Latin American countries by Arista Records. The Sign contains songs from Ace of Base's debut album, Happy Nation (1992) and the new songs Don't Turn Around, The Sign, and Living in Danger, as well as revised versions of Voulez-Vous Danser and Waiting for Magic.

The Sign is listed among the Top 100 Best-selling Albums of All Time by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with sales in excess of 23 million copies. The album itself earned Arista Records 42 million USD and was nominated for Best Pop Album at the 1995 Grammy Awards.

    Paging Mr. Proust

Paging Mr. Proust finds the 2016 Jayhawks still remain one of America's foremost rock bands: based around leader Gary Louris' gift for melody that has made them such a respected and seminal group for almost three decades. Paging Mr. Proust features the long-time core of the Jayhawks: Gary Louris (lead vox/guitars), Marc Perlman (bass), Tim O'Reagan (drums/vox), and Karen Grotberg (keyboards/vox).

From the jangle of album opener "Quiet Corners & Empty Spaces" to the trademark harmonies of "Isabel's Daughter" to the more pensive "Lover Of The Sun", it is clear that The Jayhawks' power remains undiminished from their initial national impact, 1992's Hollywood Town Hall. Other tracks such as the sludgy rocker "Lost The Summer", the kraut-rock groove of "Ace" and the taut minimalism of "Comeback Kids" bring new sounds to the palette. Paging Mr. Proust shows a commitment to adventure and forward motion, which makes this collection of songs exciting and instantly memorable.

    Right From Real

"Like a fever dream of Julia Holter
    merging with Grimes, Ainsworth's future
    visions weave neoclassical flourishes and
    enchanted melody-mangles into cool 80's
    sound-beds, and it sounds fantastic."
    - Dazed

"These soundscapes can provide a myriad
    of emotion, from reassurance to
discomfort, anxiety to enthusiasm. [...] it's
an unexpected achievement for such a
young artist and a testament to the power
of music as a purely visceral force."
    - Portals

Composer / producer / singer Lydia Ainsworth has been secretly writing
and recording songs over the past three years from bedrooms and
basements between Toronto and Brooklyn. What began as pass-time
sketches between composing music for film and multimedia projects has
over time revealed an enchanting collection of experimental pop songs
with a life of their own.

Blurring the boundaries between indie music, filmic orchestration, and
electronic music, Lydia's debut "Right From Real" thrives on haunting
melodies and draws inspiration from a wide range of musical sources -
Verdi's Requiem, Ace of Base, Bulgarian Choirs, Bernard Herrmann, Tones
on Tail, Art of Noise to name a few. This sense of unexpected marriages
of influence flows throughout much of Lydia's work which features use of
voice sampling and string arrangements woven into a unique minimalist
    fabric.

Queen Of The Minor Key (Awaiting Repress)

On new album Queen of the Minor Key, Eilen Jewell and her ace band conjure up songs depicting broken bottles as protection, bad voodoo and Cupid using a sawed-off shotgun instead of a bow and arrow. The dark, often times haunted tales on the album are fleshed out at points by surf guitar, pedal steel and upright bass, but always hold Jewells smoldering voice and unforgettable lyrics center stage.

The lines did not come easily at first, as Jewell was struck with a severe case of writers block when she began the follow-up to the critically acclaimed Sea of Tears. To help she retreated to a cabin in the mountains of Idaho, where the Boston based artist is originally from. With no electricity and no running water, she was able to focus on crafting sketches of songs, breaking her block and building the framework of Queen of the Minor Key.

Jewell and her longtime band of Jason Beek (drums, harmony vocals), Jerry Miller (electric, acoustic and steel guitars), and Johnny Sciascia (upright bass) turned the sketches into songs. A crack unit with an innate musical connection developed after playing 150 plus shows a year for the last five years, the band has an impressive array of styles and sounds displayed fully on the album. From the rollicking, hard-edged rockabilly surf of the title track to the whining pedal steel and gentle strum of the autobiographical Santa Fe.

    Mercury Rising

'Mercury Rising' is the third studio album to be released by Rae & Christian. The duo weave together exceptional musicianship paired with a British song writing sensibility and the finest elements of studio production. 'Mercury Rising' was created at producer/musician Steve Christian's studio in Yorkshire with additional recording at songwriter/vocalist/DJ Mark Rae's London base. In London a song writing bond was formed with Ed Harcourt and Gita Langley who make excellent contributions with vocals, songs, strings and keys. Sam Genders of Diagrams threads a story of redemption lost on the Ubahn on '1975', Kate Rogers is on imperious form and rising star Jake Emlyn unravels a whole new level of microphone skills on 'Favourite Game'. The international guests include the one-and-only Jazzy Jeff and Australia's Agent 86 dealing out world class scratch treatments on 'Check The Technique' (Tony D's vocals taken from a session recorded at the birth of Grand Central Records), Brooklyn rapper Masta Ace and Mark Foster of Foster The People, a collaboration born from Mark's L.A. excursion.

'Mercury Rising' is the first new material in many years from R&C. Their 1998 Mercury Music Prize nominated debut 'Northern Sulphuric Soul' (Vitally fresh and timelessly classic deserving a place alongside Massive Attack's Blue Lines" Uncut) and 2002's 'Sleepwalking' (Another triumph, brimming with soulful, languid grooves, deft samples and well-chosen guest singers" Q Magazine) were both released on their Grand Central Records label (Aim, Riton, Boca 45, Only Child), a defining imprint of the late 90s soul/funk/hip-hop/beats scene. Guest vocalists over the two albums included Bobby Womack, Texas, The Congos, The Pharcyde, The Jungle Brothers and Jeru The Damaja.

Late Night Tales Presents Automatic Soul

It is 1983 and you've just stepped into your Ford Capri with your girlfriend Julie. You live in Harlow, but in your head you're really somewhere near Salou in Spain, next to your yacht. But the thing you really love is soul and they play nothing but at Sups in Loughton. OK, so It's not 1983 at all. It's 2014, but listening to
this electrofied soul, will put you back in the zone. Tom Findlay, one half of Grammy-nominated Groove Armada, has put this collection together: a stamp of authenticity in itself. Tom has also put a few of these through the edit wringer, reworking many of the tunes for maximum towelling sockability.

You'll probably recognise a few tunes. There's Mtume's incredible 'Juicy Fruit', still sounding advanced and modern, while 'I Specialize In Love, mixed by disco legend Tee Scott, is even older yet sounds equally perky.

The 1980s was a period that was pretty much owned by Minneapolis thanks to Prince and former cohorts Jam & Lewis and the latter weigh in with a pair of killer productions, Thelma Houston's
'You Used To Hold Me So Tight' and Alexander O'Neal's 'What's Missing'. And since this is Late Night Tales, there is always our exclusive cover version, this time done by Findlay and Tim Hutton's Sugardaddy, who've delivered an ace version of 'Don't Look Any Further'.

Automatic Soul, like my previously compiled Late Night Tales Music For Pleasure, is based very much on a sound. It's a sound that I feel has been overlooked: 80s R&B-infused music, with drum machines, synths and invariably brilliant vocals. It's formed the bedrock of my rare groove sets for all the years I've played.
It's not the most fashionable, but to me it's the perfect marriage of technology and soul, hence the title for this album, Automatic Soul. There are plenty of songs I could have included, and no doubt some that I shouldn't, but I've tried to represent what's best to me from this era. It's not a classic Late Night Tales. It's
a pretty personal journey, which I hope some of you might be willing to share

    Never Too Loud (Awaiting Repress)

Not too many people outside of Canada and Scandinavia seemed to notice, but Toronto-based trio Danko Jones were responsible for some of the most electrifying, ass-kicking, fearsomely focused hard rock of the third millennium's first decade. That being said, after failing to attract a larger audience with two unquestionably stellar albums released through Razor & Tie, the band found itself relegated to smaller indie label Bad Taste for 2008's Never Too Loud, meaning that not even U.S. distribution was a given. Notwithstanding this problematic setback, though, Danko Jones showed they still held an ace or two in their hands by securing the services of hotshot producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Rush, etc.) to oversee Never Too Loud's sessions, and their new ally seemed to be fan enough to not attempt altering the band's sound, even while helping the group to cast a slightly wider stylistic net beyond its usual Thin Lizzy and AC/DC-fishing grounds. Among the resulting surprises was the acoustic guitar-driven nostalgia of Take Me Home and a pair of stoner rock-flavored offerings in the Fu Manchu-like, groove-oriented opener Code of the Road and the extended six-minute head nod of Forest for the Trees (Danko's longest track ever, by far), which culminated with guest vocals from Kyuss legend John Garcia. Beyond this experimental trio, though, Never Too Loud remained relatively faithful to the familiar Danko Jones sound -- albeit rarely played quite as loud as on prior releases, ironically enough. Sure, the punkish pogo-fest of Let's Get Undressed and the raging hormones of teenage fantasy Still in High School both recalled some of the band's wilder, earliest outbursts, and impertinent challenges like Your Tears, My Smile and Something Better confirmed the enduring chip on eponymous frontman Danko Jones' shoulder. But the mellower, melody-ridden King of Magazines and Ravenous definitely valued quality over quantity, and both the album's worst and best offerings paid serious dues to the band's chief influences, the closing title track collapsing under the weight of dull repetition (akin to AC/DC's least inspired latter-day songs) while first single City Streets reached for the heavens of perfection with that glorious blend of crunchy riffs and longing melodies (the very same ones that earned Thin Lizzy's Philip Lynott his angel's wings). And so, somewhere between the same ol' and brand new, the disappointing and sublime, Never Too Loud proved to be yet another enjoyable LP from Danko Jones, despite ranking just a notch below their most recent triumphs.

Highway 61 Revisited on Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram 45RPM 2LP from Mobile Fidelity

Dylan's First Entirely Rock-Backed Album Marks Sea Change in Sound and Potential of Popular Music

Ranked #4 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time List

Album-Opening Like a Rolling Stone Challenging, Bold, Revolutionary-And Arguably the Best Rock Song Ever Recorded

Widescreen Sonics: Brilliant Collision of Evocative Poetry, Swirling Roots-Based Soul, and Hard-Driving Blues Sounds Incredible on MoFi 45RPM Pressing

1965 Set Also Includes Ballad of a Thin Man, Desolation Row, and Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues

Its title references the road that spans North Minnesota to the Mississippi Delta, and the formative blues, country, and roots sounds connected to its existence. The highway also lays claim to towering musical myths and deaths, many tied to the blues lexicon and narrative. All figure prominently on the revolutionary beacon that is Highway 61 Revisited, the 1965 set that overturned rules, upended preexisting limits, and utterly changed everything in its path. Ranked the fourth-greatest album ever made by Rolling Stone, its reach, power, and content boggle the mind nearly five decades after its release.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed on 180 gram LP at RTI, this restored 45RPM analog version presents the life-altering music in reference-quality sound-so much so that the record's famous first lightning-strike note is now indeed the "snare shot that sound[s] like somebody'd kicked open the door to your mind," as once described by Bruce Springsteen.

Teeming with organic energy, palpable voltage, and countless textures, the LP faithfully recreates the dimensions, vibes, and events associated with the six days Dylan and Co. spent at Columbia's Studio A. Everything from the soundstages to dynamics, instrumental separation to balances, resonates with enormous might and insightful perspective. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.

Recorded amidst a time of unfathomable turmoil and frustration that witnessed Dylan booed by fans, labeled a traitor, and call into question his work, Highway 61 Revisited roars and snarls, jabs and criticizes. Its bonfire of cynicism, fury, indignation, and absurdity forever transformed rock, what it could mean, and what it could do. Supported by a thundering, commanding band that included guitarist Mike Bloomfield and organist Al Kooper, Dylan hopscotches between tempos, moods, and melodies. The symmetry of the songs references a scattered hybrid of R&B, blues, folk, soul, gospel, vaudeville, and garage rock pieces that Dylan assembles in the shape of a brilliant, mind-teasing aural puzzle.

Outside of "Like a Rolling Stone"-the six-minute-plus anthem that both challenged and chewed up all preconceived notions of an acceptable radio single by way of its length, ambition, and vitriol-every tune was captured shortly after Dylan's contentious performance at the Newport Folk Festival. The lingering impact of the hostility comes through in both the searing music and rich, literate, zinging poetry. Dylan's sneering tones, raucous arrangements, and unmistakable resentment toward both the establishment and counterculture that adopted him, and assume the form of songs such as "Ballad of a Thin Man," "Queen Jane Approximately," "Tombstone Blues," and the stupefying "Desolation Row."

At its core, Highway 61 Revisited is about experience, reality, and the cruelties and truths that lie outside soporific safety nets and bourgeois ideals. These reasons-and the bold musicianship, ace performances, inimitable sonics, and vast lyrical expanses-are why the album means as much today as it did in the mid-1960s. Akin to Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Dark Side of the Moon, this is an album that everyone needs to own and hear in the best-possible fidelity.

While many people experienced Highway 61 Revisited in stereo even at the time of its release, hearing it in mono reveals even more definition, focus, and liveliness. In particular, Dylan's voice is surrounded by more space and atmosphere, and its forefront position makes the lyrics that much more powerful. This is the way everyone would've been introduced to Like a Rolling Stone on AM radio. There's no substitute for such authenticity.

    Jaga Jazzist '94-'14

It's hard to believe that the Norwegian 8-piece band (founded on the Horntveth triumvirate - Lars, Martin and Line) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, in 2014. Not that there aren't other groups that have lasted as long, but look for a group whose primary composer was just 14 when the whole thing began, find a band where five out of its eight current members were there when everything started in 1994, and scope out one that has managed to remain as stylistically enigmatic and impossible to categorise as... well, you get the idea.

And so we thought it fitting to mark the band's 20th year with a unique, limited edition vinyl box set featuring a special reissue of the landmark album 'A Livingroom Hush' (2004). Also in the box: 2 crisp 12s featuring exclusive reworks based on elements from the album Jaga Jazzist Live with Britten Sinfonia from a stellar cast of remixers Warp Records stalwart Clark; breakbeat scientist Machinedrum; Brainfeeder's sonic dreamweaver Teebs; Mellowdrone founder Jonathan Bates aka Big Black Delta; LA-based composer, orchestrator, conductor, multi-instrumentalist and producer Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (Cosmogramma, You're Dead, Suite For Ma Dukes, Build An Ark); Werkdiscs' rising star MoirÉ; Hoya:Hoya co-founder Illum Sphere; and Stockholm's Invader Ace.

180 Gram Red / Black Starburst Vinyl

Deadpool is the smash hit superhero film based on the popular Marvel comic book character by the same name. Starring Ryan Reynolds (Smokin' Aces, Safe House) as the titular protagonist, Deadpool follows irreverent mercenary Wade Wilson into Vancouver's seedy underbelly. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Wade is subjected to sadistic experiments in an attempt to cure himself. The treatment hideously deforms him and leaves his mind unhinged. Enraged by betrayal, Wade adopts the moniker of Deadpool and begins hunting down the men responsible for his transformation.

Junkie XL (Mad Mad: Fury Road, Divergent) delivers a robust, pulsing score that is as energetic and relentless as Deadpool himself. It ties in seamlessly with the eclectic mix of songs featured prominently in the film, including tracks by DMX, Wham!, and Salt-N-Pepa. Following an incredible $150 million opening weekend, Milan Records is proud to announce the release of the Deadpool soundtrack on vinyl! Pressed on a pair of red-black starburst 180 gram vinyl and packaged in a gatefold jacket, this double LP is not to be missed.

    Anvil Is Anvil

High Class Double Gatefold LP Version With Clear Vinyl + CD

Anvil is Anvil! A self confident statement. A band philosophy. And what's more: a life motto. Anvil is Anvil, that's the title of their latest album. And the name says it all: an unambiguous, uncompromising recording, typical of this band. At the same time it's fresh, occasionally surprising and generally exciting through and through. A stalwart metal manifesto by a band who stand for authenticity and credibility like few others in this fast lived business.

Anvil is Anvil sounds all of one piece and presents the band's amazing diversity, combined with their conscious loyalty to the compositional DNA of their own classics. "Die For A Lie" for example sounds like a contemporary version of "Jackhammer" and the stomping "Runaway Train" features the same directives as "Smoking Green", only based on Kudlow's present day maturity.

Anvil is Anvil was produced by Martin "Mattes" Pfeiffer (U.D.O.) at the Redhead 4 Studios in Pulheim near Cologne, Germany. For Lips, whose family is Jewish, as is drummer Robb Reiner's, it was a special moment to work with a German producer in a German studio.

Anvil is Anvil not only touches on sensitive issues but also documents the band's lust for life, their dynamic musical style and their absolute down to earthiness. When Lips delivers the line "Ace of Spades and the joker is wild" on "It's Your Move" with a surprisingly realistic Motörhead timbre, it proves his sense of humor and is an homage at the same time. And when Anvil invite their fans to the studio to join the choir on "Daggers And Rum", it only shows the closeness between the musicians and their fans.
