    FM Original Soundtrack

Appropriately, the soundtrack for the 1978 movie FM feels like a radio play list of the era, collecting songs from Joe Walsh, Randy Meisner, Boz Scaggs, and other '70s radio staples. Steely Dan's title track, Queen's We Will Rock You, Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band's Night Moves, Billy Joel's Just The Way You Are, and Boston's More Than a Feeling are some of the highlights from this double-disc set, which also includes tracks from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Foreigner, and Linda Ronstadt, all of whom also appeared in the film. Though FM itself wasn't exactly a box-office smash, its soundtrack is a surprisingly durable and entertaining collection of classic rock that is arguably better than many of the '70s rock compilations available today.

    Poet Of The Blues

    First Time On Vinyl!

Is there another more responsible for the blues as we know them than Willie Dixon? A songwriter and musician without peer, Willie wrote blues standard after blues standard. Not only did his songs become career-making hits for the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Otis Rush, among others, but it inspired another generation of musicians including the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, Cream and Led Zeppelin, to name just a few.

Poet Of The Blues, available on vinyl for the first time, features 21 classic Dixon songs.

Besides his well-known songs, recorded in the early 70s, this compilation contains the classic 1947-1952 Big Three sessions. These recordings prove the most interesting historically.

Cult Cargo: Salsa Boricula De Chicago

Far from the twin epicenters of New York and Miami, Carlos Ruiz and his Ebirac label were both feeling and generating the aftershocks of the mid-'70s salsa boom. Holed up in their own bustling Puerto Rican community center on Chicago's west side, these third coast salseros plied their trade outside the hot lights, cutting their teeth in city parks, VFW halls, and Holiday Inn rec rooms. Nearly 50 records survive in the wake of orquestas La Justicia, La Solucion, and Tipica Leal '79, the most impassioned, singular moments of which are compiled here.

Recorded during the band's stay with legendary Detroit-based label, Westbound Records, the track-listing is a Funkadelic fan's delight. Four finished songs and five jams or instrumental tracks. None of these recordings are necessarily in finished form, nonetheless, despite their raw state, as historical artifacts they are nothing less than fascinating. Detailed sleeve notes by Funkadelic expert Rob Bowman, who comments that 'the songs and the jams on this compilation provide a window into the creative energies of early 70s Funkadelic'.

Cabaret Voltaire, alongside Human League, Throbbing

forefront of the UK Electronic Movement of the late '70s.

made them, without a doubt, one of the most influential
acts of the last 35 years.

    #7875 (Electropunk to Technopop 1978-1985),

Experimental Art/Rock Group From New York, Tracks Selection Include I'm Waiting For The Man, Venus In Furs, Heroin And More Classics

An album by The Velvet Underground needs to be in the collection of every legitimate music lover. Those who do not yet have an album from this legendary group can now fill this gap by purchasing the new Collected.

The band, with artistic exponents of text and music writers Lou Reed and John Cale, influenced generations of rock musicians and groups. Certainly, in the 70s and early 80s the cult status of this group, briefly managed by Andy Warhol, reached extraordinary proportions. The Velvet Underground was already a real punk band ten years before the rise of this music genre. This was reflected in their lifestyle, drug use and attitude. Musically, however, you can hardly compare them with punk music. With songs like Heroin, I'm Waiting For The Man and White Light / White Heat, they released a new definition of rock and roll.

The Collected compilation consists of 2 LPs with a total of 23 songs. One of the above-mentioned classics is I'm Waiting For The Man, in which the protagonist's addiction forces him to wait for his dealer with his twenty-six dollars in hand, a number that expresses an addict in an unprecedented direct and realistic way. The chaotic and sometimes atonal music confirm the grim narrative. In addition, we will find What Goes On, Pale Blue Eyes, Venus In Furs and many more songs from the pivotal band.

The Pious Bird Of Good Omen

Fleetwood Mac is a band with many faces. In contrast to their poppy sound of the 70s, Fleetwood Mac actually started out in the sixties as a psychedelic blues band under guitarist Peter Green's lead. Pious Bird of Good Omen was originally released in 1969 as a compilation of the band's bluesy roots: their first four UK singles and their B-sides and two tracks by bluesman Eddie Boyd with Fleetwood Mac backing. The album's sound is laidback, down & very dirty, featuring scorching cover versions of Little Willie John's Need Your Love So Bad and Robert Johnson's I Believe My Time Ain't Long.

The B-side features the international hit single Albatross and Peter Green's composition Black Magic Woman, the latter being popularized by Santana's version in 1970. This album is a must-have for blues fans. Anyone interested in the roots of Fleetwood Mac might discover they are essentially a totally different band than one might think.

LP On Red Vinyl (Limited To 1000 Copies)

Re-Issue Of The Legendary Debut Gorillas Album From 1978

First Time On Vinyl Since 1978

The Gorillas livened up the mid-70s rock scene like few others. They were the missing link between Hendrix, glam and punk.

Interest in Jesse Hector and The Gorillas (originally The Hammersmith Gorillas) has grown steadily in recent years in no small part due to Caroline Catz' documentary film, A Message To The World, the Gorilla Got Me compilation on Big Beat Records and the recent Crushed Butler albums re-released on Last Years Youth Records. The band also featured heavily in Wired Up!, last years' excellent book of proto-punk and glam record sleeves.

Unavailable for some time, Damaged Goods is now re-issuing their debut album. On vinyl for the first time since 1978, the version features 3 BONUS TRACKS not featured on the original Raw Records release (I'm Seventeen My Son's Alive and the classic single It's My Life.)

    The Sleeping Gods - Thorn

Norwegian progressive extreme metal icons ENSLAVED will release The Sleeping Gods - Thorn compilation via ByNorse Music. A full-length album comprised of rare material from 2010-2011, The Sleeping Gods - Thorn is a unique collection of experimental material connecting with the band's early roots.

The seven tracks comprising The Sleeping Gods - Thorn originally appeared on extremely limited EPs between ENSLAVED's Axioma Ethica Odini and Riitiir full-lengths and were recorded both in Solslottet Studio in Bergen, as well as the band members' own studios and partly in the deep woods of Valevaag on the South Western Coast of Norway. Like the songs themselves, the production is a mix of old and new; high-tech and no-tech - a mix of concepts that have been essential in achieving the signature sound ENSLAVED has become notorious for today. Members Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson co-produced the material together with long-time collaborator Iver Sandøy.

The album includes lyrics sung in Norwegian, English, and Old Norse, with themes centered on mythology and the esoteric side of the runes, as well as contrasting the Norse Ways as a polytheistic belief system to the monotheistic plague of the Big World Religions. The music nods respectfully to the wildly varying deities that make up the pantheon of inspiration for ENSLAVED, both "then" and "now." There are traces of the proto black metal of Bathory, the classic rock and heavy metal of the '70s and '80s, the synthesized and sequenced masters of the '70s, prog-rock, world/Norse folk music, Norwegian black metal of the '90s, modern classical music, goth rock a la Fields Of The Nephilim, and much more.

Tying the package together are the extensive liner notes Kjellson and a beautiful new layout by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media (Roadburn Festival, Opeth, Darkthrone, At The Gates, etc.) whose mesmerizing new illustrations display a unique symbiosis between two of our times' most exciting visual and sonic artists.

    A Period of Review (1975-1983)

Expert Mastering By Greg Davis, Liner Notes By K. Leimer And Dave Segal

Double LP Packaging Features Unique Reverse Flap Exterior, Full Color Eurosleeves, &
    16-page Booklet

For the third installment in RVNG Intl.'s archival series, the tape is wound back to 1970s
Seattle, home place of ambient music savant K. Leimer. A Period of Review (Original
Recordings: 1975-1983) unearths unreleased portions of Leimer's vast archives and
highlights the work of a self-taught visionary whose use of generative compositions ferried
    his music to infinite resonance.

Kerry Leimer was born in Winnipeg, Canada. He was raised in Chicago before his family
permanently settled in Seattle in 1967. Kerry's teenage interests and artistic experiments
blossomed from the seductively strange tendrils of Dadaism and Surrealism. In the early 70s,
Leimer found musical parallels to these visual movements by studying import copies of NME
and Melody Maker and inquiring with local record store clerks about the exotic descriptions
he read of Can, Neu! and Faust-innovators who were bringing the wild dictates of 60s art-discourse into music

The tape-manipulated serenity Leimer experienced with Cluster's II was a key revelation.
Leimer realized the potential to compose with minimal training and scoured pawnshops
for cheap instruments and recording equipment to transpose his wayward musical instincts.
Leimer's sound palette and composition soon refined and heightened with the accessibility of
dynamic equipment such as the Micromoog and TEAC multi-track tape machines.

Synchronously, the Terry Riley indebted loop-based compositions of Robert Fripp and
Brian Eno's No Pussyfooting inspired Leimer to form recursive musical passages of bare
timbre and melody that would become hallmarks of his sound. "The loop provided an
instant structure-a sort of fatalism," recollects Leimer in A Period of Review's liner notes. "The
participation of the tape machine in shaping and extending the music was a key to setting
self-deterministic systems in motion and held a clear relationship to my interests in fine art."

The underground music scene of Seattle/Olympia in late 70s was small but seeded.
The vestiges of prog rock pompously pummeled the few clubs and record shops before
punk and New Wave became the rage. Leimer sought to support a growing community of
experimental composers by launching the Palace of Lights record label in 1979 with his wife
Dorothy Cross (this was years prior to the birth of regional titans K Records and Sub Pop).

Leimer rarely performed live, averting the litmus of instant appreciation for his solitary
studio pursuits. Tellingly, the "K." that abbreviated Leimer's first name was a nod to Kafka's
doomed pariah Josef K (from The Trial and The Castle). This gives a sense of the reclusive
and literary realm Leimer was fond of working in. Despite his reticence, Leimer's debut 1980
album Closed System Potentials would reach a receptive audience, and eventually sell more
than 3,000 copies thanks in part to Cross's persistent advocation to independent distributors
    and magazines.

A Period of Review focuses on unheard material outside of the work Leimer offered on
Palace of Lights, though even that music could be considered relatively "unheard." The thirty
tracks of A Period of Review may have remained a mystery on moldy reels until now, but
Leimer's entire catalog of generative music remains pristine in its absolute power.

Liner notes were crafted by Seattle writer David Segal. Top-tier mastering was done by
Greg Davis, who produced the compilation with Palace of Lights artist Robert Carlberg, RVNG
and Kerry Leimer himself, who continues making music to this day.

Digging In The Dust: Home Recordings 1976

Songwriter/guitarist Mark Fosson grew up in Kentucky, where he began writing songs while he was still in his early teens. In the late '70s he sent some song demos to John Fahey's West Coast-based Takoma Records, and Fahey, impressed with what he heard, offered Fosson a recording deal. Fosson lost no time in relocating to Los Angeles and began recording with Fahey, but as bad luck would have it, Takoma was in some difficulty, and the label soon folded. Fahey allowed Fosson to retain the master tapes of the sessions, however.

Now located on the West Coast, Fosson met fellow songwriter Edward Tree, and the two began working together, eventually forming the Bum Steers, a country-tinged group, in the late '80s. Fosson material appeared on several soundtracks through the 1990s. In 2001 he began collaborating with singer/songwriter Lisa O'Kane, who recorded several of his songs, and Fosson also began recording a solo project, Jesus on a Greyhound, which was eventually released on Big Otis Records. The record drew positive reviews and Fosson was frequently compared to Americana artists like Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Joe Ely, John Prine, and Guy Clark.

The Fahey material finally saw the light of day as The Lost Takoma Sessions from Drag City Records in 2006. His instrumental piece Another Fine Day is featured on the critically acclaimed Tompkins Square compilation Imaginational Anthem. Now Tompkins Square has put together more hard to come by but welcome material from this gifted artist with the collection Digging In The Dust: Home Recordings 1976, an 11-track set of home recordings Fosson made circa 1976.

    Panoramic Tymes

The story of the Qualitons began in 2007 when DJ/producer Kanada Káosz was invited to DJ at the Berlin Soul Ascension Festival. When he saw some of the greatest funk/soul/beat bands playing at the SAF (including the Soul Investigators and Afrobeat Academy) he went back to Budapest inspired to organize such a band in Hungary.

The band were named after the living memory of the former Hungarian recording company Qualiton, a record label which existed from the late-'50s up to the '70s. At first the band's repertoire consisted of cover-versions from rare Hungarian 7 singles but soon started to write their own songs. They released two 7 singles on Tramp Records and were featured on a compilation entitled Contemporary Funk.

In early 2010 legendary Japanese DJ Muro placed Mellbimbo by the Qualitons right at the beginning of his afro-funk mixtape Super Afro Funky Breaks. Furthermore, Gil-Scott Heron and his band shared the stage with the Qualitons at the Mediawave Festival in Szombathely, Hungary. Heron and the guys enjoyed themselves so much that they congratulated the Qualitons personally for their authentic music and great performance. Tramp Records is now pleased to present the collective's debut album Panoramic Tymes.

    Winter Winds

The three lost albums by the Bay Area vibraphonist/composer/arranger
P.E. Hewitt will now be available as stand alone releases for the first time
since Richard Nixon was in the White House.
Masterpieces in deep/modal/spiritual jazz from a
teenaged wunderkind, recorded and released from 1968-1970
P.E. Hewitt was but 16 years old when he recorded and released - in a pressing of 50 copies - his
debut album Jawbones. By the time he sold through the 100 copies of this third, Winter Winds, he was
approaching the ripe-age of 20. The three albums he and his young compatriots wrote, recorded,
pressed and - if you can call it that - distributed, are three of the rarest damn-good 70s jazz album s
you could ever hope to come across. That's a subtle, but important distinction.

    There are many rare
jazz albums in every imaginable subgenre - funk, free, fusion...But Hewitt's three albums were so
damn-good that neither micro presses nor forty years of silence could suppress their reemergence.
We at Now-Again decided against compiling a "best of" anthology out of respect for Hewitt's
monstrous achievements and because, well, these albums are so damn good. Thus, we offer you this
series of reissues designed to be as close to the original pressings as possible down to their
hand-painted covers. First in the series, Hewitt's legendary 1970 release Winter Winds, a mix of
modal, latin-tinged, and ethereal vocal jazz.
