Gentle Ben (45 RPM)That Rich, Humid, Giant Sax Tone Blooms Like On Few Other Webster Recordings
Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
200-Gram Gatefold 45 RPM Double LP Pressed At Quality Record Pressings
...Webster's trademark sensual sound is on full display and, of course, he's backed by Montoliu, an outstanding Spanish piano veteran who accompanied all the great jazz artists passing through Europe...This is one of the first releases by Analogue Productions pressed at their new in-house pressing plant Quality Record Pressings, and the record bears a close resemblance in appearance to records from Pallas - beautiful looking and perfectly quiet...The superb 200-gram LP comes in a rice paper sleeve and jacket of heavy cardboard...Highest Recommendation. Recording = 10/10; Music = 8.5/10 - Dennis D. Davis, Hi-Fi+, Issue 81
This recording was made 10 months before Ben Webster's death in 1972. Webster, who had left the United States in 1965 to settle in Europe - first in Copenhagen and then in Amsterdam - was visiting fellow musician and friend Tete Montoliu in Barcelona. Webster and pianist Montoliu went back a ways, having played together regularly in Webster's Copenhagen days. In fact, Montoliu cited Webster and Don Byas as his two chief musical influences. Webster and Montoliu understood each other deeply, and their comfort with on another is palpable in this recording. Their accompaniment of one another is seamless. On board with these two is Montoliu's regular working trio-mates, Eric Peter on bass and Peer Wyboris on drums.
There's no shortage of Webster's trademark breathy, fat tenor tone here. In fact, given the sparse arrangement, that rich, humid, giant sax blooms like on few other recordings. Highlights include Ben's Blues, Sweet Georgia Brown, The Man I Love and Don't Blame Me.LP 1

ELLE-ORG-0133xBlood, Sweat And Tears
Blood, Sweat And Tears (Awaiting Repress)Winner of three Grammy Awards in 1970, this absolutely mind-blowing album peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. charts, staying there for seven weeks, going double platinum by the end of 1969 and stayed on the Top 40 for 66 weeks.
Arguably, the Blood Sweat & Tears that made this self-titled second album - consisting of five of the eight original members and four newcomers, including singer David Clayton-Thomas - was really a different group from the one that made Child Is Father to the Man, which was done largely under the direction of singer/songwriter/keyboard player Al Kooper. They had certain similarities to the original: the musical mixture of classical, jazz and rock elements was still apparent, and the interplay between the horns and the keyboards was still occurring, even if those instruments were being played by different people.

Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd (45 RPM)
45 RPM 200-Gram Gatefold Double LP Reissue
Remastered By Ryan Smith At Sterling Sound From The Original Analog Tapes
Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!
Tip-On Gatefold Jacket By Stoughton Printing
What would American southern rock be without the scorching sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd? Analogue Productions and Quality Record Pressings have already brought you exceptional reissues of Second Helping and Nuthin' Fancy. Back to the well then, we go, for two more Skynyrd favorites - the epic Gimme Back My Bullets and the band's bluesy, hard-rocking 1973 debut Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd.
Remastered from the original analog tapes by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound, our Analogue Productions reissue of Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd is the ultimate in luxurious reproduction and unbeatable sound. 200-gram plating and pressing by Quality Record Pressings, and a tip-on Stoughton Printing jacket round out the package.
The undeniable youthful hunger of Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd pumps through the subtly witty songs, all strongly rooted in Southern heritage and working-class values. Independent of the most-requested tune in history, Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd bleeds red, white, and blue and encapsulates the wondrous dichotomies of Southern rock.
Months before Lynyrd Skynyrd enjoyed the privilege of recording its debut, the band entered its seventh year of playing juke joints and assorted dives in a bootstraps effort to land a deal. During a residency at a hardscrabble Georgian club, the group's rambunctious rock, swaggering attitude, blue-collar determination, and country-reared cadence caught the ear of producer/musician Al Kooper. The rest is history. Kooper inked the ensemble to his new imprint and hustled everyone into a Georgia studio for sessions that occurred March through April 1973.
It's at the Studio One space that Lynyrd Skynyrd flashed scampering tempos, cutting give-and-take riffs, loose barroom lines, and off-the-cuff vocalese that entirely separated its approach from that of the more jazz-styled affairs of the Allman Brothers Band. Confederate flags, empty whiskey bottles, cocked pistols, rotgut habits, scorned women, and prodigal drifters populate the songs, nearly all written from first-person perspectives that add to their genuineness. Prophetic touches - twinkling piano notes, soaring mellotrons, a one-off harmonica - provide ideal complements to the intertwined guitar melodies and singer Ronnie Van Zant's comfortable gruffness and way of expressing local customs.1. Fleetwood Mac (45 RPM)Ranked 183/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Sonic Sensation: Cut from the Original Analog Master Tapes at Bernie Grundman Mastering
1975 Set Fleetwood Mac's Commercial and Creative Breakthrough: 1st Album With Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham
Includes Hits Over My Head, Rhiannon, Say You Love Me and Staples Landslide and Monday Morning
An Audiophile Blockbuster: Don't Pass Up One of the Most Essential Rock-Pop Albums Ever Recorded on this Absolutely Lifelike-Sounding Pressing
The Chain, for all intents and purposes, starts here. Few, if any bands in history, experienced a rebirth on par with that of Fleetwood Mac, which partially accounts for why this 1975 set is self-titled. With the addition of Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham finally solidifying the ensemble's rotating lineup, the record signifies a new beginning, a rejuvenated sound, and a melodic purpose that quickly helped the co-ed group become the biggest band in the world.
Recorded in three months and aided by a surfeit of material brought to the fold by Nicks and Buckingham, Fleetwood Mac is a monster album, a five-million-plus-selling effort that set a new record for the amount of weeks spent on the Billboard charts before finally hitting number one and the home to Top 40 singles Over My Head, Rhiannon, and Say You Love Me. Moreover, it marks the introduction to the chemistry, interplay, and connectivity established by a quintet whose singing, songwriting, and harmonizing abilities at the time hadn't a peer.
The first of three consecutive landmark Fleetwood Mac recordings, this refreshing rock-pop landmark opened the floodgates of commercial success, crossing over to both AM and FM radio and steadily winning coverts all across the world. The reasons relate to the impeccable selection of songs and heartfelt performances, whether it's Nicks' unforgettable reflectiveness on Landslide, Buckingham's warm pleas on Say You Love Me, or the cozy romp of Monday Morning, fittingly a lead-off number that related to the emotional games and pain that would characterize so much of the band's iconic work.
Cut at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original analog tapes and pressed at 45RPM, this version presents the music in the absolute best fidelity it's ever (and ever will) enjoyed. As realistic, dynamic, wide-open, organic, and airy as the critically acclaimed pressing of Rumours, this deluxe set portrays the fingerpicked acoustic guitars, swelling choral voices, jazzy percussion, and every last breath of the lead singing turns with utmost transparency.
Nostalgia for albums recorded in the mid-70s will immediately come to light, as this pressing simply glows and presents the listeners with scads of information that even those that have heard this masterpiece hundreds of times have never noticed.1. Monday Morning

Dire Straits (45 RPM) (Pre-Order)
Dire Straits' Self-Titled 1978 Debut Distinguished By Jazz-Inflected Mix Of Folk, Blues, Country, And Rock: Guitarist Mark Knopfler Displays Uncanny Precision, Intricacy, And Texture
Mastered From The Original Master Tapes And Pressed At RTI For Optimal Sound: Mobile Fidelity 45RPM 2LP Set Engages With Natural Tones, Superb Balances, Reference Imaging, Sterling Clarity
Breakout Dire Straits Album Includes Sultans Of Swing And Down To The Waterline: Band's Shuffles, Boogies, And Ballads Spark With Crispness, Soulfulness, Coolness
Dire Straits' arresting self-titled debut arrived in the midst of punk's reign but couldn't have been further removed from the era's slash-and-burn style. Recorded in West London in February 1978, the band's tasteful, jazz-inflected set embraces folk, blues, and pub rock while also tracing a direct line back to the beat-oriented sound of early rock n' roll. Country and roots accents further distinguish the British quartet's stripped-down music from any 1970s peers, as does the transparent production, which has remained revered among audiophiles the world over - and which has never been better than on this meticulous analog pressing.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP version of Dire Straits features natural tonalities, superb balances, you-are-there imaging, deep-black backgrounds, and pristine clarity. Even if you've heard this album hundreds of times before, you've never experienced it with such lifelike sonics and premium richness. This numbered, limited-edition collector's set immerses you within the smoky, laidback atmospherics of every song. This is how all vinyl should sound.
Crucial to every arrangement, Mark Knopfler's winding guitar lines emerge with supreme transparency and multi-hued textural detail. His intricate playing comes across as if it's being transmitted via his 60s-era Fender Vibrolux amplifier placed right before you. The cleanliness, dimensions, and live feel are that good. His bandmates, too, benefit from the extra groove space afforded by this 45RPM edition. Rhythms skate and swirl; percussive effects resonate with crispness and attack; the leading edges of notes naturally decay.
Dire Straits' strong, well-edited batch of original material further enhances the overall enjoyment and makes the record one whose pleasures go far beyond the organic sonics. Just as Knopfler's narratives pour forth with poetic and surrealist texts, the musical settings - an intoxicating combination of easygoing shuffles, back-hall boogies, and pop-honed ballads - mirror the old-fashioned soulfulness inherent in the classic recordings of the late 50s and early 60s. The lyrics are equally captivating.
Drawing from his time as a youth in Newcastle, Leeds, and London, Knopfler invests tunes with an autobiographical slant and emotional connectivity that become obvious the moment he opens his mouth to sing. Down to the Waterline, Wild West End, and Lions all feature colloquial touches that add to their reach. By extension, In the Gallery functions as a tribute to Leeds sculptor Harry Phillips (father of future Knoplfer collaborator, Steve Phillips) while the record's breakout smash, Sultans of Swing, pays homage to struggling bar bands.
Through it all, Dire Straits performs with a subtle cool and clever poise that no band ever matched. Just how good is the chemistry? Bob Dylan heard the quartet and invited Knopfler and drummer Pick Withers to play on Slow Train Coming. But even Dylan himself didn't hear Dire Straits sound this magnetic back in its original heyday. Now, everyone can.1. Down to the Waterline

Astonishing Collection of The Queen of Soul's Greatest Songs for Atlantic Records: Aretha's Gold Includes Nine Top Ten Hits: Respect, Chain of Fools, and Think Among Them
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes and Pressed at RTI: Breathtaking Sonics on Mobile Fidelity 180g 45RPM 2LP of Aretha's Gold Get to the Heart of Franklin's Range, Emotions, Expressiveness
Aretha Franklin made her Hall of Fame reputation at Atlantic Records between 1967-1968. This astonishing two-year period witnessed the singer score nine Top 10 hits and define soul music, a era chronicled on Aretha's Gold. Pairing with producer Jerry Wexler and a flawless Muscle Shoals studio band, Franklin unleashed bolder sides of her artistry kept under wraps during her tenure at Columbia. The rest is history - a history that, until now, has never been in heard in true audiophile sound. And if there's any voice you want to experience to the most realistic extent, it's that of the vocalist Rolling Stone crowned the Greatest Singer of All Time.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP of Aretha's Gold presents Franklin's most seminal early Atlantic songs with reference-standard sonics. Finally, hear the full range of the Queen of Soul's depth, reach, and expressiveness. Complementing her timeless classics with tremendous dynamics, restored balances, and stunning clarity, this collectable analog set sheds new light on Franklin's power and technique, honesty and confidence, enunciation and directness.
Hear why Franklin is even better than you likely think or remember. You just haven't been able to hear the Detroit native on a format that mirrors exactly what went down in the studios when she recorded songs that, to this day, remain the bar by which all other singers are measured. The same goes for Franklin's backing band, known as the Swampers, whose instrumental savvy, feel, and textures are so unique, the group is credited with creating its own style: The Muscle Shoals Sound. On this vinyl edition of Aretha's Gold, experience every picked guitar note, brushed snare, and fluid bass line. Seldom has a band and vocalist ever made a more formidable, memorable, and emotional combination.
The evidence plays out across these 14 songs, each a soul landmark, each unforgettable thanks to Franklin's impassioned performances and empowering attitude. The Sweet Impressions (Franklin's backing vocalists) and sweeping string arrangements bolster the foundation, but the material belongs to Franklin. A veritable hit parade, the track listing on Aretha's Gold reads like a dictionary of soul.
I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Loved You), Respect, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman, Chain of Fools, Since You've Been Gone (Sweet Sweet Baby), Think, The House That Jack Built, I Say a Little Prayer, Baby I Love You: All Top 10 hits. Plus five more tunes, including a riveting cover of Sam Cooke's You Send Me, that charted.

Latin In A Satin Mood (45 RPM)Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original Analog Tapes
200-Gram Gatefold LP, Cut At 45 RPM
Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!
She was the sultry film starlet-turned-torch singer-come-TV actress whose dusky alto captivated a generation. Julie London was discovered while running a department store elevator in Hollywood.
Just three years earlier the bountiful 15-year-old, born Julie Peck to her parents, a song-and-dance duo of the vaudeville era, was singing on her parents' radio show. When she started working in the movies in the 1940s, she changed her name to London. During the course of a celebrated career in acting and music, she made more than 30 albums.
The sultry-voiced actress, who was once married to Dragnet producer-star Jack Webb, had a hit record with the 1950s single Cry Me a River. The single debuted in 1955, sold three million copies and remained in demand into the 1960s.
Analogue Productions has brought back Julie London sings Latin In A Satin Mood in dramatic, deserving fashion. Remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, the crispness and vibrancy of this recording is spectacular. And we've cut this version at 45 RPM, meaning the 12 tracks are spread over two LPs for even better cartridge tracking for superior sound quality!
Exotic and Latin albums were big deals in the 1950s and early '60s, and singers as diverse as Dean Martin, Lena Horne, and Peggy Lee were recording with castanets and bongo drums. Like Peggy Lee, London combines a restrained vocal approach with jazz phrasing and a cool attitude with icy sex appeal on this album of relaxing Latin standards. Julie does look beautiful on the cover, and the backup male mariachi-esque serenade ads to the romantic ambiance.
Speaking of the cover, expect only top-notch reproduction for our Analogue Productions reissue. Originally a single LP jacket, we've upgraded to a gatefold incorporating more original photographs provided by Universal.
London appeared in nearly two dozen motion pictures during the 1940s and '50s; she was best known to TV audiences as nurse Dixie McCall on the 1970s hospital drama Emergency! She was hired on Emergency! by Webb, her then-former spouse, to co-star with her second husband, jazz musician Bobby Troup. Troup, who composed the iconic musical hit Route 66 played a doctor on the show and it was he who helped sign Julie to the Liberty record label.
Describing her smoky vocal style, London once said, It's only a thimbleful of a voice, and I have to use it close to a microphone. But it is a kind of over-smoked voice, and it automatically sounds intimate. A style inimitable, in our estimation.LP 1

The trio's third album, released in December of 1963, featured liner notes by none other than Bob Dylan and the well-known folk tune Blowin' In the Wind alongside Tell It On the Mountain.
Their third recording was one of the group's stronger outings, even if it confirms their status as folk popularizers rather than musical innovators. In particular, this record was essential to boosting the profile of Bob Dylan, including their huge hit cover of Blowin' in the Wind, their Top Ten version of Don't Think Twice, It's All Right, and the bluesy Quit Your Lowdown Ways, which Dylan himself would not release in the '60s (although his version finally came out on The Bootleg Series). Stewball, All My Trials, and Tell It on the Mountain were other highlights of their early repertoire, and the dramatic, strident, but inspirational Very Last Day is one of the best original tunes the group ever did. - allmusic.com

Hail To The Thief45 RPM
Radiohead's 2003 release Hail To The Thief borrows equally from OK Computer's epic progressive rock and Kid A's skittering electronic theatrics while using eloquent metaphors and complicated arrangements to express the uncertainty, fear and anger arising from the 2000 U.S. presidential election and a post-9/11 world. The occasional hard-grooving funk rhythm and crazed rock guitar riff keeps even the airiest sentiments well anchored though, making Hail To The Thief as well balanced as it is progressive.1. 2+2=5

Seminal 1969 Album Steeped in Revolution, Vitality, Protest: The Aural Equivalent of a Demonstration March, Jefferson Airplane's Uncompromising Volunteers Rooted in Belief Music Can Change World
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Wider, Deeper Grooves on 180g 45RPM 2LP Set Yield Superior Transparency, Rich Nuances, and Engaging Dynamics on Set Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
Defiant, Assured, Cohesive Songs Filled With Driving Psychedelia, Rustic Country, and Crunchy Acid-Rock: Guest Musicians Include Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, and David Crosby
Awash in controversy and loaded with revolutionary protest, Jefferson Airplane's Volunteers stands as the last album made by the group's classic lineup and brings insurgent closure to the peace-and-love era. The potent 1969 record confronts war, politics, greed, and environmental ruin in head-on fashion matched by few peers. Steeped in the belief people and music could transform the world, it steers the band in community-minded and county-rock directions, and features charged playing by guest luminaries such as Jerry Garcia, Stephen Stills, David Crosby, and Nicky Hopkins. Volunteers also benefits from being one of the first 16-track recordings. And now, the historic set can be heard in the fidelity the artists and producers intended.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180g 45RPM 2LP set of Volunteers teems with soul-affirming energy, dynamics, immediacy, and standout textures. The wider and deeper grooves translate into finer pacing, enhanced information retrieval, and superior transparency. Soundstages stretch far and extend back, with instrumental separation giving all of the musicians their own place in the mix. As a result, subtle albeit important details - Hopkins' rollicking piano, guitarist Norma Kaukonen's biting tones, Garcia's deft pedal-steel work - emerge in three-dimensional fashion amidst a musical canvas that manages to be both edgy and produced, raw and revealing. Jefferson Airplane has never sounded more vital.
Much had changed in America - and within Jefferson Airplane - in just the two short years since the release of the San Francisco collective's breakthrough smash Surrealistic Pillow. The countercultural movement had darkened, government involvement in Vietnam escalated, and regard for human rights fallen. Retreating from the excessive experimentalism that graced its prior two LPs, the Airplane responded to the social circumstances with defiant, assured, and cohesive songs shot through with driving psychedelia, crunchy acid-rock, and rustic country. From start to finish, it's the aural equivalent of a demonstration march.
Having drawn attention for the inclusion of profanities in multiple tunes, the Top 20 LP also ran up against the nonprofit Volunteers of America after the sextet wanted to title the record Volunteers of Amerika in order to express further dissatisfaction with the country. While Grace Slick and Co. gave into the charity's desires to switch the name, there's nothing compromising about Volunteers. Kaukonen's leads cut searing swaths through urgent fare like Eskimo Blue Day and anthemic We Can Be Together, which boldly speaks out against convention and in favor of chaos and anarchy.
Indeed, in organizing a pseudo summit of many of the counterculture's leading musical figures to participate on Volunteers, the Airplane treats the album as an orchestrated stance against the establishment. Stills and Crosby assist in rocking the boat on a turbulent cover of Wooden Ships lined with Slick and Marty Balin's overlapping lead vocals. Hopkins gooses the call-to-arms title track with frisky boogie-woogie lines. Garcia lends The Farm a suitable rustic vibe, and on his final appearance with the Airplane, drummer Spencer Dryden helms the pastoral sing-a-long A Song for All Seasons.
Ranked #370 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Volunteers remains a cultural and musical touchstone.

Just One Of Those ThingsContrasting downbeat ballads with an ironic brassy, upbeat big band attitude, the ironic Cole Porter standard Just One Of Those Things sets the tone for a distinctive, pungent experience of love and disillusionment with a swing. Brilliantly backing the intimately expressive and supremely musical voice of the incomparable Nat King Cole, a big band with no strings smolders, swings, saunters, storms, sighs and sizzles with the arrangements of the distinctive Billy May. Featuring top shelf interpretations of These Foolish Things, Who's Sorry Now? The Party's Over and more, this album is among its era's finest recordings of popular music and its quality, style and spirit remains unexcelled.
Using the original 3-track session tapes from Capitol's vaults and all-analogue systems including custom headstacks, 3-track preview heads, console and monitoring chain installed at AcousTech specially for these releases, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman realize the stunning beauty of these recordings. A superb track recorded for the album, You'll Never Know, which was omitted due to space constraints, is included in this double 45-RPM 180-gram album set. Included with this deluxe reissue is a striking six-panel booklet complete with rare photos, a 2,200-word essay by Jordan Taylor on the album and a 1,200-word essay by Michael Fremer about the remastering process. This truly is a no-expenses-spared project, resulting in the ultimate version of this title and a historic reissue.

Hidden CityWhen Rolling Stone hailed THE CULT as "the Messianic moment of Coachella" in 2014, few knew that their next release would be unveiled in the form of HIDDEN CITY, their tenth studio album (and second for Cooking Vinyl).
The final instalment in a trilogy of recordings, completing 2007's Born Into This (The Fall) and 2012's Choice of Weapon (Dark Night of the Soul), Hidden City is a tightly-woven series of experience and visions with underlying themes of redemption and rebirth threaded through The Cult's visceral music. Astbury's signature baritone and blood-soaked lyrics paired with Duffy's smouldering, textured guitar tones, create a musical environment that is fearless and peerless.
From the sonic assault of the opening track Dark Energy, Hidden City launches quickly into the dark underbelly of its subject matter. Stemming from the Spanish phrase "La Ciudad Oculta" or "hidden city," the album reflects an awakening of consciousness through its tone and complexity. "Hidden City is a metaphor for our spiritual lives our intimate interior lives," explains Astbury. "I find today's gurus are trying to peddle some cure, product or insight as if it's a new phenomenon. My place is to respond, not react, to observe, participate and share through words and music. There is no higher authority than the heart."
Produced by Bob Rock and written by Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy the team has collaborated on what has turned out to be the brutal and beautiful masterpiece Hidden City.
The Cult have revealed in a storied career. From the iconic Love album bursting with idealism to the dystopia of 2001's Beyond Good & Evil to the current seductive Hidden City, the band lives their art. A new chapter dawns for The Cult as the future unfolds The Cult will respond. It's what they do.

1967 Post-Bop Classic the Third of Five Albums from Miles' Prized Second Quintet
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Sorcerer Has Never Sounded More Dynamic, Present, Warm, or Tonally Rich
Mood, Inflection, and Nuance Take Center Stage on Compositions Steeped in Sophisticated Expressionism
Filled with aural magic and enchanting musical spells, Sorcerer is true to its name. The third of five albums devised by Miles Davis' legendary second quintet-and the second record in a still-unprecedented string of eight consecutive releases within a four-year period that forever changed the face of jazz-the 1967 magnum opus mesmerizes with instrumental colors, subdued musings, and subtle details. These crucial characteristics blossom with vibrant realism on Mobile Fidelity's definitive 45RPM pressing.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g 45RPM vinyl at RTI, this collectable audiophile edition of Sorcerer joins the ranks of eleven other essential Davis records given supreme sonic and packaging treatment by Mobile Fidelity. Longtime listeners will immediately recognize a wealth of information and depth of tonality unavailable on prior versions. The myriad shadings, interwoven textures, and relaxed nuances that tie the post-bop set's warm compositions together are rendered with utmost realism.
This is a reference-standard reissue. You'll hear poetic lyricism pouring out of Wayne Shorter's horn, the breadth and definition of the notes spreading across an enormous soundstage. Never before have drummer Tony Williams' rim shots ricocheted with such purpose or his light percussive work mirrored that of a feather touching skin. Similarly, Herbie Hancock's piano runs now occupy their own space, where their relationship to the central rhythms and front line becomes clearer.
Prizing inflection and nuance more so than heady solos or uptempo flights, Sorcerer mesmerizes with cerebral properties and cascades of emotional interplay. Such beauty emerges in the mellow ballad "Pee Wee," an indelible statement of restrained authority and sophisticated expression. The swirling title track unfolds as jazz shadowplay, Hancock, Shorter, and Williams mirroring one another's moves with guile and purpose. The opening "Prince of Darkness" showcases the ensemble's reach and communication, every musician going in seemingly different directions yet ending up on the same page.
A lasting example of Davis' visionary insight, Sorcerer is comprised entirely of pieces written by his band mates. Indeed, save for the closing "Nothing Like You"-a brief tribute to Davis' eventual wife, who also graces the cover, recorded in 1962 and adorned with vocals from Bob Dorough-the album represents a further maturation and refinement of a quintet that stands as one of the finest in jazz history. Mobile Fidelity is proud to give the record the treatment it's long deserved.

And I Love Her / Sappy (Early Demo)Single From Cobain's anticipated soundtrack to the documentary Montage Of Heck!
This Limited Edition 7" Single Includes Two Of The Previously Unreleased Selections From The Kurt Cobain Archive That
Are Included On The Full Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings Album
The HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck is already drawing rave reviews on the film festival circuit, including sold-out showings at both Sundance and the True/False fests before its television premiere on May 4th. However, anticipation for the film's soundtrack is about to hit fever pitch as director Brett Morgen revealed that the accompanying album will feature a mind-blowing 12-minute acoustic Cobain unheard track, the filmmaker tweeted.
Rolling Stone talked to Morgen at the Sundance Film Festival, and the filmmaker revealed that the documentary's score is all unreleased Cobain music. They don't have titles. Before people saw the movie, there were these weird press releases focusing on the unreleased music. And it's like: It's a movie. We're not going to stop it and play a song for four minutes, Morgen said. But nobody in Kurt's life - not his management, wife, bandmates - had ever heard his Beatles thing [a snippet of 'And I Love Her']. I found it on a random tape. It's a Paul [McCartney] song. How's that for shattering the myth?

Final All-Acoustic Outing from Davis' Classic Second Quintet
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Record's Tonal Shadings, Gradations, and Textures Come Alive
Confident 1967 Effort Steeped in Inquisitive Interplay and Subconscious Impressionism
Nefertiti will always be known as the final all-acoustic record made by Miles Davis' classic second quintet. A thematic bookend to the preceding Sorcerer, the 1967 set shares much in common with its equally nuanced predecessor yet deviates by way of its focus on rhythm and exploratory soundscapes. The low-key music blooms with colorful bouquets of shadings, gradations, and overtones that on Mobile Fidelity's analog edition bring listeners to closer to the creative passions than ever before.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g 45RPM vinyl at RTI, this collectable audiophile version of Nefertiti joins the ranks of eleven other essential Davis records given supreme sonic and packaging treatment by Mobile Fidelity. Afforded supreme dynamics and full-range extension, cyclical melodies resonate with a moody character and ambience normally only heard in small jazz clubs. Instrumental pitch, too, is spot-on accurate, a measuring stick for how all acoustic-based passages should be experienced.
As he does on Sorcerer, Davis again cedes all compositional duties to his all-star band mates and focuses on his trumpet. Familiar albeit slightly dissonant, rooted in hard bop yet signaling the onset of fusion, the songs are grounded in inquisitive interplay and subconscious impressionism. Nefertiti reveals fresh devices and new directions every time you visit its cerebral worlds. And while each musician is given ample room to solo, the effort stands as an example of groupthink in that no individual stands out or shows off. The groundbreaking title track-during which the horn section recurrently repeats the melody as drummer Tony Williams and bassist Ron Carter improvise, thus inverting the conventional sense of a rhythm section-shines as a textbook example of such chemistry and unity.
Throughout, the players' confidence, and Davis' trust in them, stamps every piece with rare self-assurance and authoritativeness. In particular, Williams and Carter bring rhythms to the forefront as the horns hypnotize and Herbie Hancock's piano points in several different directions like a compass gone crazy. Responsible for "Madness" and "Riot," Hancock contributes brief bursts of speed and slight aggression, but on a record on which complexity and introspection take precedent over blowing hot, the aural steam ultimately becomes opportunity for burrowing into unpredictable turns and deep grooves.
Indeed, the thrilling sense of interplay and inclination of the ensemble to keep searching, moving forward in a concerted manner to uncover then-unheard jazz discoveries, marks Nefertiti as one of Davis' quintessential efforts. For historians, it's the signpost to the pioneering fusion the leader would begin to pursue with greater commitment on the record's follow-up, Miles in the Sky. For the rest of us, the album is music and music-making at its intriguing best.
